There is no hard limit on logs or size restrictions.
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable FortiGate Cloud feature is logging. It's there seven days a week, and there is no hard limit on logs or size restrictions. This much capacity will show up for that seven days. FortiGate Cloud offers many other valuable features like Fortinet Secure Gateway, SASE, and the Fortinet Security Fabric."
- "GUI access could be improved. It should be simpler to access everything from the portal. Once we log in to the portal, we should be able to access all the Fortinet Cloud options."
What is our primary use case?
We have FortiGate Cloud deployed on all three major cloud providers: AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure. The configuration varies from case to case. Azure is different from Google Cloud, which is entirely different from AWS. We have the documentation needed to deploy it on AWS, GCP, or Azure. We also have all the documents to use it on KBR for Fortinet. I don't use the latest version because updates typically have bugs. If it's on version 7.4, I prefer to use 6.4 or something like that.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable FortiGate Cloud feature is logging. It's there seven days a week, and there is no hard limit on logs or size restrictions. This much capacity will show up for that seven days. FortiGate Cloud offers many other valuable features like Fortinet Secure Gateway, SASE, and the Fortinet Security Fabric.
Fortinet Security Fabric combines so many Fortinet products, allowing you to monitor them from a single vendor. Fortinet Security Fabric, the log features, and FortiGuard integration are all useful features. Fortinet Cloud also offers data integration with private and public clouds. The configuration isn't too complicated, either. It's pretty manageable and easy to understand.
What needs improvement?
GUI access could be improved. It should be simpler to access everything from the portal. Once we log in to the portal, we should be able to access all the Fortinet Cloud options. Onboarding and activating customers in FortiGate Cloud is also tricky. They will come to us asking for help and telling us they can't find the activation.
Maybe Fortinet could add something like a wizard that provides step-by-step guidance about what to do next. If I am using this solution for the first time, so I do not know where to click. There should be built-in guided instructions inside the portal itself.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using FortiGate Cloud for around two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Fortinet Cloud is stable. The product has some, but it's generally a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
FortiGate Cloud is easy to scale because it's well integrated with public cloud providers. You can easily bridge if you use a private cloud. The licensing is also scalable.
How are customer service and support?
I rate Fortinet support seven out of 10. Sometimes it takes a while to get a response. Maybe it's because they have such a large customer base. Customers need an immediate response or feedback, and that doesn't always happen.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup isn't too complex. We require some credentials from the cloud. It takes three or four engineers to do a PoC unless we're doing something critical where we need L2 engineers.
We do not do anything in production. In a PoC, we initially focus on a specific area for the customer. You can take 50 or a few hundred people in a segment, and we will address those credentials before deploying at a high level in the next phase. They will do a POC or a test for a particular use case and then go through the same process at a higher level to deploy the solution in production.
What was our ROI?
It offers return on investment because the customers have the liberty to move to the cloud through a gateway,
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I don't know the precise details about the licensing cost, but Fortinet is cheaper than most other products in the space.
What other advice do I have?
I rate FortiGate Cloud eight out of 10. I would recommend it depending on your company's requirements. Every organization has a standard for products and budgetary constraints. It might be a better solution for one particular segment than others.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a seven out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
The security policy in Fortinet FortiGate Cloud has notably enhanced network security. We will configure all the security features if they want direct access to the internal server. We will enable UTP features like file application scanning and SSL detection. Fortinet FortiGate Cloud is deployed in a public cloud because most clients use the virtual machine and the virtual firewall for protection.
Maybe more people would like to use it if AI can do more on the security front. I would recommend the solution to other people.
Overall, I rate Fortinet FortiGate Cloud a nine out of ten.

What is our primary use case?
We use Fortinet FortiGate Cloud for Fortinet VPN channeling and site-to-site VPN. We also use it to block some traffic.
What is most valuable?
Fortinet FortiGate Cloud has security features, like DDoS protection and UTM. Fortinet FortiGate Cloud is user-friendly. We can easily identify and use its features. So there won't be any difficulty in configuring, installing, or using it on a daily basis.
What needs improvement?
It would be much better if Fortinet FortiGate Cloud allowed third-party integrations like multi factor-authentication.
Better security features should be included in the next release.

I have been using Fortinet FortiGate Cloud for two to three years.

Director at a tech services company with 1-10 employees
Comprehensive, easy to set up, and offers good reliability
Pros and Cons
- "The initial setup is relatively easy."
- "In the email security modules they have in their UTM, maybe they can include more extended or expanded features for the email security where users can have their own portal login to release blocked emails, as an example."
What is our primary use case?
The solution is primarily used for firewalls, border protection, and network gateway protection.
What is most valuable?
It's a UTM solution. It covers layer four to layer seven in terms of firewall functionality. It doesn't only cover the network. It also covers application cases.
It also has an IPS module. It has an anti-malware module. Usually, customers can extend the license, and they can have Fortinet agents which will help them enforce the policies also when they are outside the network.
It's a comprehensive solution compared to other solutions.
The initial setup is relatively easy.
What needs improvement?
Maybe the upgrades could be a little bit easier, especially when customers don't upgrade in a long time. When there is a gap like that, you have to follow a strict path of upgrading, which does not always run smoothly.
In the email security modules they have in their UTM, maybe they can include more extended or expanded features for the email security where users can have their own portal login to release blocked emails, as an example. Currently, the UTM will only have basic email security.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've used the solution for seven years, as a partner, as a reseller, not as an end user.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable. It's reliable, and the performance is good. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's scalable up to a limit. You have to do sizing correctly. If the sizing is correct, then there are no issues; however, if not, then in some cases, you need to replace all the hardware in order to scale to the next level.
Some environments have only 20 users, and other environments where there are 5,000 users. The number of users varies from client to client.
How are customer service and support?
We have had interaction with technical support.
They're good if you have the correct support package. They have two support packages. They have eight by five and they have 24 by seven. As long as you have the right support package, then you'll find the support process very easy and helpful. Otherwise, you have to match your time with their time and sometimes they will not go the extra mile if the package or the service you bought is limited.
How was the initial setup?
The solution is very easy to implement. It's not complex at all.
The implementation strategy usually depends on the customer. It varies from customer to customer, depending on the requirements. That said, usually, it shouldn't take more than a couple of days.
Usually, first, we have to collect feedback or collect requirements from customers in terms of the different networks that they have, the policies, the allowed protocols, the disallowed protocols, the allowed content, the blocked content, et cetera. We will get, from the customer, a unique account for Active Directory, which is required for the user's onboarding. After we do the physical implementation, we start by implementing the policy and building out the policies. First, we will test them out during off-business hours. Then, if everything is working as expected, we move it to production, and customers can start using it.
One person is all you need to handle deployment and maintenance.
What was our ROI?
Our clients have seen an ROI from using this solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It's moderately priced. It's in the middle of the market. It was not very expensive. However, it is also not the cheapest option.
There are extra costs if you need extended things added to the license. For example, if you need some cloud logging or premium support, for example. All these come at an extra charge.
What other advice do I have?
We are the partner for Fortinet, and we sell their products.
We are not using it for our own network.
We tend to deal with the latest version of the solution.
In most cases, we deploy on-prem. We have one or two cases only in the cloud. However, most cases are on-prem.
My advice would be mainly to first have proper data gathering from customers before implementing. As part of the data gathering, a company needs to include some facts regarding the utilization network and the sizing. You need to get sizing correct from the outset and should plan to have room for an extra 30% increase in the future.
I would rate the solution nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

User-friendly, reasonably priced, and helpful technical support
Pros and Cons
- "Everything is valuable, especially the SD-WAN tunneling, filtering of email, application, and browsing. Everything has value."
- "It is currently durable, but they may be able to improve it further. They can adapt Cisco technology because of its durability."
What is our primary use case?
SD-WAN tunneling is the primary function of Fortinet FortiGate Cloud. It is also used for filtering or browsing, as well as application filtering and blocking of all unwanted applications, viruses, and malware, which is the main goal.
What is most valuable?
The SD-WAN tunneling is the most valuable. Everything is valuable, especially the SD-WAN tunneling, filtering of email, application, and browsing. Everything has value.
This Fortinet equipment meets our requirements. They offer what we wanted.
What needs improvement?
The most recent version of others is not yet complete. For the time being, we are content because it is a significant help to us. Durability is something that can be improved.
It is currently durable, but they may be able to improve it further. They can adapt Cisco technology because of its durability.

It is being used extensively. It is running 24/7.
We intend to implement and upgrade another model in order to meet a new requirement.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support is very helpful. Support is not a problem because Fortinet is user-friendly to manage, even my technical team can handle it.
How was the initial setup?
On our end, setting up Fortinet FortiGate was easy. It was not complex.
You can deploy the firewall in an hour without difficult requirements. You can set up the firewall in an hour. It's plug-and-play, ready to use.
What about the implementation team?
We collaborated with a vendor in the first deployment, but we handled the subsequent deployment ourselves. Even though we dealt with the first deployment, we contracted for support just in case, but for the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth deployments we did not require vendors.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The cost of equipment and its renewal is valuable. Unlike other firewalls, the cost of Fortinet FortiGate is low, and the functionality is nearly identical, which is why we chose it.
Then there's the cost, which we compared to Palo Alto, Cisco equipment, and others, and we were impressed with the cost, the cost of the renewal, and the cost of the equipment.
What other advice do I have?
The solution is cloud-based. Trend Micro Incorporated is the service provider.
If you are looking for a low-cost security appliance with web filtering, application filtering, and SD-WAN tunneling, I would recommend Fortinet FortiGate Cloud. It's not expensive, and it meets the most basic requirements.
I would rate Fortinet FortiGate Cloud a nine out of ten.
