Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The tool is a very stable solution with high availability and no information leakage. It has built-in API integration on-site. You can integrate with other components and applications like SAP, Microsoft, Oracle, etc.""The content management is all about you as you can make the same content for minimal purpose solutions applications.""The scalability is a valuable feature, that we're able to display our documents to so many people.""The vertical scalability, as we can use it across some of our applications."

More IBM ECM Pros →

"It is simple to use and it allows me to give me the opportunity to access anything I want from any device.""The most valuable feature is to be able to modify the file online and keep it stored on the cloud, since it is not necessary to download it to make modifications.""They have support for integration with a lot of tools.""The feature that I have found the most valuable is that Microsoft OneDrive works with any Enterprise Cloud Solutions Office app. You can edit a document on the cloud, share documents with your colleagues, and monitor changes. You can access your work almost anywhere. You can also sync Microsoft OneDrive with your workstation so that whatever you are working on gets automatically backed up to the cloud at regular intervals. So even if your system crashes, you still have a copy of your documents in the cloud, which I found very useful.""Scalability is good just because it is a cloud-based product.""Ability to share documents.""We use Microsoft OneDrive for file sharing without the need for additional hardware (such as flash drives or external hard drives).""It is free if you use Microsoft Office 365."

More Microsoft OneDrive Pros →

"SharePoint has made things easier with the increased functionality for building the portals, microsites, and total integration with Microsoft categories.""Quantity and variety of partners with solution development ability on the platform.""We can now share to team members by MS Teams and assign planners to follow and update statuses in a single platform.""The security feature is valuable.""We can arrange all our documents on one platform and see the document's changes and edits.""The metadata services, the WCF service integration and the Voxel feature are three most valuable elements of this solution.""It is well supported by Microsoft.""There is not just one valuable feature; it is all of them working together."

More SharePoint Pros →

Cons
"I would like to see seamless application integration.""I think it's already getting away from Java applets. A lot of our users struggle with keeping up to date with Java versioning, so a lot of the functions they're doing, like printing, emailing, and even some of the viewing, they're struggling with.""I would recommend not going with ECM 8 and going with FileNet instead. It seems like that is the future of the lower-volume repository. It seems like they are moving away from ECM 8.5 so I think we're going to have some challenges coming up, getting off of that technology.""The development platform is not local. For example, you need 100 days in IBM, whereas other platforms, like ServiceNow, need only 20 days."

More IBM ECM Cons →

"The website could be improved. Sometimes I try to login and the website has issues, I can't retrieve my documents.""It is not very stable because there are a lot of bugs.""I would advice not storage sensitive information since it could be prone to hacking.""It takes too long for OneDrive to synchronize various applications, especially when you are saving office data. It also requires too much bandwidth.""Microsoft OneDrive could improve because it doesn't support backing up .PST files, which are Outlook data files, and email archives. This is a substantial setback when it comes to Microsoft OneDrive.""The solution has sub-folders, which are visible to various team members. If you want to ensure the information is private, you would need to have a certain level of seniority in the office.""If I want to pick out certain criteria of pictures, Google enables me to do that whereas OneDrive is a bit sort of flaky.""The scalability has room for improvement."

More Microsoft OneDrive Cons →

"Allow more functionalities for the on-premise version. Do not force the move of content to a non-private cloud.""Improve the user-friendliness.""We'd like to be able to upload from MS Excel to deploy tasks and use drop-down lists to collect further information.""The initial setup is complex and has room for improvement.""Using SharePoint is difficult.""SharePoint’s scalability could be improved.""The product does not perform 100% when used outside of a Microsoft based browser, Chrome, Firefox, etc.""SharePoint Online could improve the user interface and when modifying any of the user interfaces can be challenging. Additionally, there are challenges with the detail in the analytics user interface and the overall customization could improve."

    Comparison Review

At Mediacurrent we often get requests to compare Drupal to other platforms used for intranet sites and social business platforms (like https://dev.twitter.com/ for example). This is often referred to as “Social Business Software”, which has grown in popularity in recent years. I decided to do a round-up of a couple of the more well known platforms and compare their products to Drupal. In this roundup we will be comparing Jive, Sharepoint and Drupal Commons. Drupal Commons is a popular distribution created by Acquia to compete with some of these other proprietary platforms. There are many other options out there, commercial and otherwise, to compare with Drupal but I want to focus on Jive and Sharepoint for a couple of reasons. I chose Jive because it is one of the leading competitors in this space in respect to market share. Next, I chose Sharepoint because I have some history with Sharepoint. This experience dates back to when I built www.adhe.edu with Sharepoint 2007 a few years ago. I subsequently wrote this blog entry about my experience shortly after joining Mediacurrent. This roundup will also act as a refresher for those who read my original “Drupal vs. Sharepoint” blog. Yammer, which was recently bought by Microsoft and is the tool we currently use for office communication will also get some mentions throughout this article. As I went through and tested each of these tools I used three main criteria in my evaluation Cost Ability to Customize Overall features… Read more →
