Director at a tech services company with 201-500 employees
Scalable, stable, and provides secure backups for Microsoft
Pros and Cons
- "The solution provides good backup services for Microsoft 365."
- "The installation could always be a little bit easier. You do need to be a bit technical."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution for backup. We leverage it for security reasons so that we feel safe about the security of our data. Microsoft doesn't guarantee anything. If they lose your data, then they lose your data, and that's it. This gives us a sense that we won't lose anything if something happens.
What is most valuable?
The solution provides good backup services for Microsoft 365.
The product has been stable so far.
I'm confident that the solution can scale as needed.
What needs improvement?
The installation could always be a little bit easier. You do need to be a bit technical.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for two years at this point.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is very stable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
While I haven't had the need to scale, I'm confident that if I needed to scale the solution to thousands of users, it wouldn't be a problem.
At the moment, I only have two customers on the solution.
I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten.
How was the initial setup?
It's my understanding that the initial setup wasn't too difficult. That said, I wasn't directly involved in the process. It's likely pretty straightforward.
You only need one person to handle the deployment and maintenance tasks. It doesn't require a big team. They need to be a bit technical, however, it's not too complex.
What about the implementation team?
A colleague of mine set it up.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
You do need a license in place to use the solution. In our case, we pay a yearly licensing fee.
What other advice do I have?
I'd recommend the solution to other users and organizations.
I would rate the product at an eight out of ten. I've been pleased with its capabilities so far.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Lead Presales at a tech services company with 1-10 employees
Easy to install and configure with a good management console
Pros and Cons
- "The installation process is very easy."
- "While I don't have a use case in mind, it would be great if they could integrate more automation capabilities into the solution."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily install the solution for our clients.
The solution is used for backup purposes, specifically for Office 365. By default, depending on how it is configured, it will back up every eight to ten days. Beyond that, if you need specific mail recovery or complete mail recovery, you can do that as well.
What is most valuable?
Overall, it's a very good product.
The configuration is easy.
The installation process is very easy.
I have found the solution to be very stable.
They offer a very good management console. With the dashboard, you can understand exactly what is going on in your infrastructure in relation to backup and recovery aspects.
What needs improvement?
While I don't have a use case in mind, it would be great if they could integrate more automation capabilities into the solution.
Integration with other products could be improved.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable. There were previous issues, however, now the issues are sorted out. Now we can take the file backups, and NAS backups specifically. While streamlining or fine-tuning is still required, they're working on that.
Its performance is good. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have installed the solution for three or four customers.
How are customer service and support?
I've dealt with Veeam support in the past, not necessarily for this product. However, it's my understanding that the support would be the same for Veeam across all products and I don't have any complaints with their level of responsiveness or helpfulness. That said, they could always improve their level of service.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is pretty straightforward. You have to install the console and everything is there. It is just a console installation. There are only three or four clicks and you are done. However, everything goes on the cloud. That is how we have configured.
It is not a huge task to configure O365. If you know how to do that particular thing, it's hardly a half-day's worth of work. In one instance, we had three, One storage and NetApp storage devices and 50 mailboxes, and two or three servers. That was the infrastructure. The deployment for that took half a day.
I can handle the deployment and maintenance aspects of the solution on my own. You only need one person.
What about the implementation team?
As integrators, we help our clients install the solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution is subscription only. That said, you have to procure the licenses separately. So O365 licenses are separate and Veeam licenses are separate.
What other advice do I have?
If someone has O365 or any other mail solutions, they should definitely go for Veeam.
I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. I've been pretty happy with its capabilities. I'd recommend the solution to other users and organizations.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
Disclosure: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer: Integrator
Delivery manager at a computer software company with 201-500 employees
A stable solution which is easy to use, but should have better integrative capabilities
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is easy to use and stable and can be made to fit one's needs."
- "The solution should have backup integration features, not just concerning mail but also when it comes to such solutions as SharePoint."
What is our primary use case?
As the solution is cloud-based, we are always using the latest version.
The solution allows a person to keep his data third party when it comes to compliance requirements, thus necessitating that it only be backed up at a certain place. The solution is used wholly for compliance requirements.
What needs improvement?
The solution should have backup integration features, not just concerning mail but also when it comes to such solutions as SharePoint.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Veeam Backup for Office 365 for the last couple of years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable and can be tailored to one's needs.
How are customer service and support?
There is no technical support needed.
How was the initial setup?
As the solution is on the cloud, there is no installation required.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We are talking about a third party solution, so there is a licensing fee.
What other advice do I have?
The solution is easy to use and stable and can be made to fit one's needs.
I would recommend the solution to others who need it to meet their compliance requirements. However, if this is not required by one's organization and there are policies in place for third party back up other than that provided by the public cloud provider, then I would advise going with an alternate solution.
An example would involve a law firm or VSSR sector which has certain user data that cannot be maintained solely on the cloud and necessitates a copy being kept in one's vault.
I rate Veeam Backup for Office 365 as a six-plus out of ten.

Useful email restore feature, stable, but integration with other email provider needed
Pros and Cons
- "One of the valuable features is the ability to restore a specific email. For example, if a user has deleted an email and they would like that particular email back we are able to restore it."
- "We have found that there is a limitation in this solution where it only takes the backup of users who are using Office 365 Enterprise email IDs. We have many users in management and approximately 50 other users who are using Office 365 of which Veeam is able to capture the backup. However, for the other users who are on the local email server at that time, the solution is not able to capture the backup."
What is our primary use case?
We use this solution to backup our database of Office 365 users' information.
What is most valuable?
One of the valuable features is the ability to restore a specific email. For example, if a user has deleted an email and they would like that particular email back we are able to restore it.
What needs improvement?
We have found that there is a limitation in this solution where it only takes the backup of users who are using Office 365 Enterprise email IDs. We have many users in management and approximately 50 other users who are using Office 365 of which Veeam is able to capture the backup. However, for the other users who are on the local email server at that time, the solution is not able to capture the backup.
In an upcoming release, there should be backup support for other email providers, such as Gmail.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable, we have had no problems.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have approximately 50 users using this solution.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
There is an annual license required and a per-user fee for this solution.
What other advice do I have?
We will be evaluating whether we will continue using this solution in the future because it is not practical to keep it when it does not do the backups of all our users' information requiring us to have two solutions.
I rate Veeam Backup for Office 365 a six out of ten.
