A powerful, cost-effective, and agentless solution that supports multiple platforms and is perfect for small and medium enterprises
Pros and Cons
  • "A great value is the fact that it supports multiple platforms, and it is agentless. Obviously, it still requires credentials, but being agentless makes it much easier to deploy, especially for a small business. It leaves fewer things to maintain. Especially for a small or medium business, it is a tremendous product."
  • "It is very flexible and very powerful. The reporting scripts that are continually posted are a real benefit. It makes it easier for someone who is a consumer, but not necessarily a power user, to quickly create and run reports, get updates, and know what tasks need to be performed."
  • "Its functionality is very solid. The best part about it is that, when you have issues in getting information back from nodes, it tells you what the issue is, and you can quickly go to the specific nodes and respond to or repair those. There is an agent option, but to me, as a small business, the preference is to avoid agents where possible because you probably don't have the staff to keep up with them all."
  • "I don't have any complaints about it, and I've never really had any issues. It isn't wizard-driven or anything like that, but it doesn't need to be. For someone who is not familiar with system administration, it would be daunting. There would be a lot of info there. They wouldn't necessarily know what to do, but that's not its target audience. For its target audience, in particular, it doesn't need to change. It is really a good tool."

What is our primary use case?

We are using it for governance and compliance to meet the CIS 18 critical service controls. We're always on its latest version.

What is most valuable?

A great value is the fact that it supports multiple platforms, and it is agentless. Obviously, it still requires credentials, but being agentless makes it much easier to deploy, especially for a small business. It leaves fewer things to maintain. Especially for a small or medium business, it is a tremendous product.

It is very flexible and very powerful. The reporting scripts that are continually posted are a real benefit. It makes it easier for someone who is a consumer, but not necessarily a power user, to quickly create and run reports, get updates, and know what tasks need to be performed.

Its functionality is very solid. The best part about it is that, when you have issues in getting information back from nodes, it tells you what the issue is, and you can quickly go to the specific nodes and respond to or repair those. There is an agent option, but to me, as a small business, the preference is to avoid agents where possible because you probably don't have the staff to keep up with them all.

It is really easy to use in contrast to some more enterprise-level solutions. All the information is basically very accessible. It's a powerful tool for someone who has to do a lot of functions by themself, as opposed to spreading it around between multiple users. For a small business that has an administrator or a couple of administrators that need tons of information in a central location, and that has some compliance people that have to run reports and are not necessarily power users, it is a great product.

What needs improvement?

I don't have any complaints about it, and I've never really had any issues. It is really a good tool.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for about five years. I started off in 2017 and have been using it ever since. I left the job where I originally was running Lansweeper and went to a new company. We are a company that recommends Lansweeper.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It scales really well. We are a small business, and we are still collecting data on over 500 nodes. The only challenge you would have with it is when you get to a certain size enterprise that is very distributed. It might not necessarily be suitable for large enterprises where you need remote collectors, agents, and a search engine and you want a quick scan off through the database-defined query results, but that's not the audience they're going after.

How are customer service and support?

I never needed any support. I'm sure it's good, but I've never had to call them. It does exactly what it says it does, and it does it very well. So, I never needed to call them.

How was the initial setup?

We help set it up, but it's so easy to deploy. It is not for an amateur, so they need to know what they're doing. If they have admin experience, then it is clearly intuitive. If they don't, they would probably be lost.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Its cost is terrific. It has a great price and is cost-effective, and the license is free under a hundred nodes.

I like the fact that it gets regular updates. Of course, it notifies you of the product and you can patch it and all that, but I like the fact that it is very affordable for the number of nodes. A company with three or four computers doesn't need it, but a company that has dozens or hundreds has to have some kind of governance. It can do everything such as Windows, Linux, and network devices, and the discovery is really intelligent. For example, you'd find smart devices, IOTs, and things like that. I'm very happy with it.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We are a company that recommends Lansweeper. We also recommend larger products like Tanium, but obviously, that's out of reach for a small business or a medium business. So, I put it as an ideal alternative when something of that scale is unaffordable. It is such a cost-effective solution.

What other advice do I have?

The fact that the license is free under a hundred nodes is under-advertised. If people started using it at home for their home environment, they would quickly determine how valuable it is. Obviously, it'd have to be someone who has some admin experience, but a system administrator who has his own home network, even if it's only a couple of machines, can quickly figure out how valuable the tool is simply by installing it and using it in their house. It is free under a hundred nodes, and it is fully featured. I use it at my own house now. I started using it because I wanted to learn it, and I found that it's a tremendous resource for education.

I'd rate it a nine out of 10. The only reason I wouldn't give it a 10 is that there are bigger or better products out there, but they cost a lot more money.

Delivers reliable, valuable, and precise insights into the status of users
Pros and Cons
  • "One valuable feature is the ability to monitor log-on times, providing insights into whether users are rebooting their machines as claimed. This is useful in scenarios where users may not be aware of the need to reboot for system optimization. Lansweeper helps verify such information by collecting log data. Another noteworthy feature is the capability to track CPU, memory, and network usage on workstations at intervals, say every thirty minutes. This allows me to assess the user's experience and validate their claims about resource consumption. For instance, if a user complains about high memory usage, Lansweeper enables me to verify the actual usage and address the issue accurately. This level of monitoring granularity is something I find particularly useful and haven't seen in many other tools."
  • "The support experience hasn't been satisfactory. Establishing a direct connection with someone is challenging, as communication is limited to chat or forums through a web link. There's a lack of direct interaction with support personnel, making it difficult to have real-time conversations or seek immediate assistance, which is not ideal."

What is our primary use case?

For instance, when it comes to installing a VPN client across our workstations, we used to do it manually for each of the one thousand workstations. However, with Lansweeper, we can now handle it remotely and automatically through system log-on.

Lansweeper simplifies tasks like conducting an inventory and identifying workstations lacking the VPN client. It allows us to create and deploy MSI installation packages efficiently. Additionally, when we need to uninstall tools like TeamViewer from all our clients, Lansweeper streamlines the process for us. What sets Lansweeper apart is its intelligence—it runs repairs only if the relevant application is detected on the machine. This intelligent approach makes it more efficient than other tools, like NetSuite Panel.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have using Lansweeper for the past 6 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

While Lansweeper generally works well and is user-friendly, I have experienced instances where pushing the server to its limits, such as requesting CPU usage data from numerous workstations within a short timeframe, has caused performance issues. The server tends to struggle under such heavy loads, leading to slowdowns or temporary service interruptions.

To mitigate this, I've found that extending the timeframe for such intensive tasks, like monitoring CPU usage, helps the server cope more effectively. It's worth noting that I haven't explored upgrading to more powerful hardware, but it could potentially enhance performance. Despite occasional limitations under heavy load, Lansweeper remains reliable and user-friendly in regular operations.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

While I find it easy to manage in my current context, I acknowledge that deploying Lansweeper on a larger scale, such as with five thousand computers globally located in different countries, might require additional consideration.

Lansweeper is designed to handle such scenarios, allowing for the deployment of multiple Lansweeper servers in various locations and centralizing the data on a MasterServer. While I haven't personally worked in such a large-scale environment, I believe Lansweeper is equipped to handle the needs of big companies with extensive global operations.

How are customer service and support?

While I haven't engaged in direct conversations with support personnel, they have been responsive to emails. If they connect to my server for remote assistance or VIP support, I'm generally satisfied with their service, contributing to the overall rating of eight.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We use Lansweeper for endpoint management at our organization. We actually have two solutions for this purpose. Lansweeper is great for security-related tasks like applying patches, making it integral for managing security issues. On the other hand, if you're looking for automation and user-friendly inventory management, Lansweeper stands out as the better option. Overall, they complement each other well.

How was the initial setup?

It seems that for me, it's manageable because of my experience, but for newcomers, especially with the transition to the cloud model, it can be a bit challenging. I personally prefer the traditional on-premise model, but there's a push towards the cloud, and it feels like users are being nudged in that direction, which may pose challenges, particularly for those who are new to the system. In my current scenario, I have users who don't log in every week, such as travelers who access the network once a month.

It takes about a month to fully deploy due to the nature of these users. With the new Active Directory, we implemented login scripts for both machines and users. Interestingly, with Lansweeper, we no longer require agents for the system to function. While the option to use agents is available, it's not mandatory, and users can access their accounts without them.

I manage the deployment process myself, and it's quite straightforward. We only need manual intervention for machines that are not connected to our domain or are outside our network. However, in my specific scenario, all machines are on the same network and domain, making the process fully automated. It's very efficient in this context.

What was our ROI?

Considering the automation provided by Lansweeper, I realize that without it, I would need someone else to handle the tasks I currently manage on my own. The application enables me to efficiently handle everything remotely, making it completely worthwhile.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is not high and it is fair according to the worth it offers.

What other advice do I have?

I really appreciate Lansweeper, and I believe it will continue to be valuable for me. Over the past six years, I've been using Lansweeper with three different companies, and I absolutely love it. It's an excellent tool that I find very effective.

Firstly, a prerequisite is a basic understanding and proficiency in English. Secondly, it's essential to recognize the need for an IT specialist, particularly one with active network and direct Microsoft experience. Lansweeper is suitable for individuals possessing such skills and expertise. However, for those without a background in networking and Microsoft, it may not be suitable.

Favorable IT asset management, robust software, and feature rich
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of Lansweeper is IT asset management. In the realm of cybersecurity, having knowledge of what is on the network is critical. We are able to conduct reports and see the assets we have. Initially, the solution required a machine on the local network to scan everything, but it has evolved to include agents that can report to a device, and more recently, an agent that can send data to the cloud even if the device is outside of the network. This has proven to be especially useful during the pandemic, as it has allowed us to keep track of devices that have been sent home with employees."
  • "The support is an area that could improve. The support staff could be more knowledgeable."

What is our primary use case?

The Lansweeper is a versatile software that is currently being utilized primarily for IT inventory management, with the capability to distinguish between IT and OT assets. They recently introduced an OT scanner which the organization is yet to deploy. The software also comes with cloud configuration options which the organization has just started exploring. The reporting function of the software is robust, allowing the IT team to generate reports on assets and feed them into other systems. The software has been used by the organization to track a large number of devices with multiple users, and for reporting purposes, the IT team has been able to utilize the Lansweeper to generate a list of computers that are used by only one user in a specified period of time.

We are not currently using Lansweeper to its full potential, its primary use is for operational technology, such as temperature gauges and IOT devices. The Lansweeper has an OT scan feature that is designed to integrate all of these devices into the cloud, however, we have not yet had the opportunity to utilize this feature. The company is moving away from its traditional internal solution and focusing on developing more in the cloud, including a recent launch of a new mapping feature. Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to explore these new developments as of yet.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Lansweeper is IT asset management. This has proven to be especially useful during the pandemic, as it has allowed us to keep track of devices that have been sent home with employees.

The solution offers immense value and is equipped with a host of valuable features. One of these features is the help desk service, which although wasn't used to its full potential, could have been extremely beneficial. Additionally, it has the ability to run reports, including the latest patch updates, and even sends these reports to users for added convenience.

What needs improvement?

The support is an area that could improve. The support staff could be more knowledgeable.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Lansweeper for approximately nine years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The software has proven to be an effective IT asset management tool for the organization, which comprises 550-600 users, with a third of them being shift workers in fire and police departments.

I rate the scalability of Lansweeper a six out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The individuals working in the help desk department of the company are indeed helpful. However, it can sometimes be challenging to reach them due to their location in Belgium, which results in having to take the time difference into consideration. The support provided by the help desk is primarily through email.

The support is accurate and helpful, including assistance with creating reports. The speaker is not completely familiar with all aspects of the solution and has yet to delve into its cloud offering, which includes added features, such as access to all relevant issues. Despite attempts, they have yet to figure out how to effectively utilize this aspect of the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The Lansweeper's price has increased and is now on par with or even higher than competitors, it still offers significant value in the area of IT asset management.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Lansweeper an eight out of ten.

Great for discovery; provides very good reports from every asset
Pros and Cons
  • "Provides good reports from every asset."
  • "Lacks an end-to-end asset management tool."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Lansweeper for discovery. Smaller businesses don't generally have proper assets in place. We run Lansweeper and capture all their assets and categorize them. We are partners and resellers of Lansweeper.

What is most valuable?

Lansweeper provides good reports from every asset including the host name, IP address, and firmware version, it's all there. If it's a server, it tells you which services are running. There are about 124 columns for you to pick and choose from. The solution is easy to deploy, easy to use, and scalable, whether for 1,000 devices or 1,000,000 devices. They have recently released a beta version which we're hoping our smaller customers can use.

What needs improvement?

I think they should come up with an end-to-end asset management tool. That's what we need.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for about a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable, whether it's for 100 devices, 10,000 devices or 1,000,000 devices. We currently have a team of five users who are discovering assets we are using.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy. It can be implemented anywhere, even on a desktop and you can start capturing details. It's just a matter of running the exp file and then providing a license key. It doesn't take more than half an hour. We allow it to scan for 48 hours, and then we develop the report.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

License costs are based on the number of devices. I believe the cost is around 35 cents per device. It's very reasonably priced and there are no additional costs.

What other advice do I have?

I rate this solution nine out of 10.

Has the ability to put an agent on a machine and not be connected to your network
Pros and Cons
  • "We've found the most value right now in the inventory of the equipment."
  • "The help desk is not exactly its strong suit."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use it to monitor the Windows machine. I don't want to call it network monitoring because it monitors the end points really, and we use other monitoring tools as well. Right now we've started using the help desk, but we haven't done that 100%.

How has it helped my organization?

I can see what computers are on. Not only that, I can see the VM they're on. So I've got information about the Mac, I've got information about the Windows VM, and I got the fact that they're tied together and the Windows VM is inside the Mac.

Then when I look at the Mac, I can tell you what generation it is, what the Mac address is, what the IP address is. I also see, because it's a manual process, this is the wall jack that it's tied into, this is the wireless network it's on. But more importantly, we can look at all the software that we have across everything and run a report. If there's an issue, Lansweeper will generate a report you can use, take the SQL code, dump it in there to create the report and run it. If there's an issue, it'll show us the machines that have problems, and we're able to patch from there.

What is most valuable?

We've found the most value right now in the inventory of the equipment. Microsoft had a problem recently with the Print Spooler, and we had to make sure that we were on a certain level of the patches. Lansweeper basically takes an inventory of the Windows equipment and we're able to run a report against that inventory and say, "Oh look, these machines either have the Print Spooler that it's on, or aren't patched enough to make sure that we're past that particular issue." It will also tell us, "Hey, the antivirus has been turned off."

The solution recently evolved to where you can put an agent on a machine and not be connected to your network. It will report to the cloud, and our server grabs the information off the cloud and pulls it in. We can then run reports off of the information.

What needs improvement?

We're trying to use it for the help desk, but that's not exactly its strong suit.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using Lansweeper since at least 2015, 2014; enough that we've gone through a few iterations.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Lansweeper has been fairly stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We've built on it over the years, how much we're using it. No real complaints.

How are customer service and support?

I've been very happy with the tech support. I rarely have to send them an email, but they've been responsive.

When SolarWinds had an issue, it's like, "Oh, I'm not going to touch it with a 10 foot pole."

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There's probably cheaper solutions out there, but it's not as expensive as SolarWinds.

It actually costs us some money in the long run because they changed the licensing model.

What other advice do I have?

They've also got the ability to copy information and run it when you're out in the cloud. I want that. We don't do that. I don't want all my information in the cloud, so we don't do that part.

I'll rate the solution an eight. I like it. We've had a few issues, but as far as the support, it's been pretty good there.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
