I am not an end user. I present the solution to customers. I study a customer's infrastructure and suggest a product based on the customer's needs, such as latency or IOPS performance. I usually work with VSP F700 and F900 models.

A resilient solution with good stability, reliability, performance, and security
Pros and Cons
- "Its resilience is the most valuable."
- "Hitachi should launch some small machines in Brazil. The smallest machine here in Brazil is VSP 350, which can be quite big for some of the customers. In China, Hitachi has small models of this equipment, but those models are not available in our region. Its pricing is a big issue for us. We are resellers, and we face some competition from other vendors. Hitachi doesn't always have a good position in terms of the price. Its user interface is also not as good as some of the other competitors, and it can be improved."

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable. I didn't have any issues with its stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It depends on the series of the machine. When we are sizing a machine for our customers, we should consider how big the machine should be for three to five years. Our clients are medium to large organizations.
How are customer service and support?
It used to be very good, but nowadays, it is not so good because Hitachi doesn't provide support for fixes. Another company is now doing fixes for Hitachi.
How was the initial setup?
I don't take care of this area.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is expensive as compared to other vendors, but its price is good if you are looking for stability, reliability, performance, and security.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Our clients evaluate all competitors, such as EMC, Huawei, and Pure Storage. Price is one of the big issues concerning the competition between these brands. Hitachi is the most expensive, followed by Pure Storage and EMC. Huawei is the cheapest.
Hitachi is one of the traditional brands for storage. People had Hitachi at a certain point in time in the past, but they couldn't continue with Hitachi because of the price. Last December, we sold a solution to a customer who didn't buy Hitachi for maybe seven or eight years. We were able to put a good proposal, and they acquired another Hitachi solution.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform F Series an eight out of ten.

Stable, the software offerings are solid, and the active-active option works well
Pros and Cons
- "The active-active option seemed to be working well and overall, it was a solid product."
- "It seemed like every time we turned around it was a statement of work and we'd have to pay for something that our previous vendors would not have billed us for."
What is our primary use case?
This product was used to store all of our production block requirements. We are now migrating to an all-flash storage system.
What is most valuable?
The active-active option seemed to be working well and overall, it was a solid product.
It performed well and the software offerings were solid.
What needs improvement?
We had issues with support, rather than the product itself. It seemed like every time we turned around it was a statement of work and we'd have to pay for something that our previous vendors would not have billed us for. I don't think that they would have even raised an eyebrow. By contrast, these guys were looking for money every time we asked for any little thing. We didn't like that.
For how long have I used the solution?
We had been working with the G series for about six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is great. It's right up there with anything else that we had seen, so no issues. It was a solid product.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We did not try to scale because our models were bought at full capability on day one.
How are customer service and technical support?
We had a lot of issues with support and I would rate them a five out of ten in that aspect.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have experience and history with several Dell EMC products including the BNX line, BMX, and PowerMax. However, we are moving away from this to the HP all-flash solution.
The only reason we changed from the Hitachi Platform G is that it was getting long in the tooth, and we wanted to get into the flash environment.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward and we didn't have any issues.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The costs were primarily in line with every other vendor at the time. Year six and year seven maintenance took a drastic jump, which didn't sit well with us. However, at the time, it seemed to be what most of the vendors were doing. But by the end, Hitachi had sort of balanced it out, so it wasn't a huge jump in years six and seven. It was certainly an issue for us in the beginning.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We went through an RFP-type process to select a flash vendor, and we're just in the process of implementing that storage today. It was this same sort of process six years ago when we replaced our existing Dell EMC solution with the Hitachi product. Hitachi had a better offering.
What other advice do I have?
I can't say anything about the product itself that was in need of improvement. The areas where we had issues were more along the lines with support and HDS management. For anybody who is interested in this solution, I would say that from a product standpoint, it is fine. The only problem is the support. Anytime we needed support, it was delayed. I'm not sure of the reason for this, but it just seemed like it took a long time to get things resolved.
At the time we did our RFP, HDS did not have an all-flash offering. They do now, but I haven't had the opportunity to look at their all-flash products. Hopefully, it is not just all-flash thrown into a G 1500 Series because you want to build flash from the ground up.
What we found during our recent RFP was that the pricing is pretty close between all-flash and HDD, so while not everybody needs the performance, if you're getting it for the same price then why wouldn't you take advantage of it?
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Simple firmware updates, effective Shadowimage feature, and reasonably priced
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable features in Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform F Series are Shadowimage, easy to manage equipment, and upgrading the firewire is very simple."

Storage and Backups Manager at a tech services company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Allows us to share storage between our cloud environments
Pros and Cons
- "The technical support is great."
What is our primary use case?
We are a data center located in Mexico. We use a wide array of storage solutions from different companies. Our largest storage installation is on Hitachi.
We use this solution to share storage between our cloud environments. We have a VMware Cloud in each of our data centers with two locations in Mexico City. We have a replica between these two sites. We also have another Cloud Suite for OpenStack.
What needs improvement?
This solution is equipped with virtualization technology inside the storage box. Other companies like TMS have virtual technology outside of their storage boxes. IBM has a SAN Volume Controller that allows us to virtualize any type of storage whether it's on the same label or not. This is not the case with Hitachi.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This solution is very stable.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support is great.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give this solution a rating of nine.

Good scalability and performance, but needs better usability and more management features

It is unstructured storage. We are using the latest version of this solution.
What is most valuable?
Its scalability and performance are the most valuable. It is quite scalable and has a huge capacity.
What needs improvement?
Its usability can be improved. It can have more management features. Its management tools lack features.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been dealing with Hitachi N Series since its release, which happened three years ago.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Its scalability is good. Our customers are medium and big companies.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have contacted them. They are quite good.
How was the initial setup?
Its initial setup is complex. It is not customer installable. You need to have special training before you can do the installation. You need to get certified and trained, and then you can do the installation. If you're a trained professional, it would probably take a day.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is expensive. Everything is included in the license. There is no additional cost.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution. It is pretty on par with the market. I would advise others to speak to the supplier and understand all the features and functions.
I would rate Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform N Series a seven out of ten.

Good reliability and stability
Pros and Cons
- "It's best features are its reliability and stability."
- "In terms of what could be improved, it could use a better, faster web console and other consoles. It is so boring waiting, waiting and waiting for it to refresh."
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case for the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform is for storing data from the Oracle database. Additionally, it is for banking and other transactions.
What is most valuable?
It's best features are its reliability and stability.
What needs improvement?
In terms of what could be improved, it could use a better, faster web console and other consoles. It is so boring waiting, waiting and waiting for it to refresh. Additionally, there could be more rate groups for it, or different rate groups. Right now there are limited options in regards to the rate group.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series over the course of the last year.
The version we use depends on our situation and the agreement between us and the customer. Every contract between our company and another company, like banks in Iran, is different.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
In terms of numbers of users, it depends on the customer. It can be more than 1,000 or 10,000 people.
How are customer service and technical support?
In terms of technical support, in our country, it's illegal so we try to fix our problem by ourselves. So it is hard.
How was the initial setup?
It's not easy to install, but I know how to install it. Its web design and console are very weak and do not have enough speed.
It took 10 times to install.
We require about 10 people for the deployment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
In terms of cost, in our country and with our money, it is an expensive solution, but it's valuable.
What other advice do I have?
My recommendation to anyone looking to use Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series is to read and read and read and learn from other people's experiences and basic knowledge. This is really important for everyone.

For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using this Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform for one and a half years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This solution is very stable and in the last one and a half years, we have not faced any issues with it. We are going to continue using it in the future.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This product is pretty scalable. We have approximately 1,200 users who are storing data or using it one way or another.
How are customer service and technical support?
We had some issues with the creation of partitions and it was taken up by Hitachi and it was resolved immediately. I would say that their support is pretty good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Prior to this, we were using the IBM V3700 series, and we upgraded from that to the Hitachi.
How was the initial setup?
The installation was straightforward. We faced some issues because of the travel calendar because there is no partner for Hitachi in the North zone. It took some time, but it was pretty good.
What about the implementation team?
An integrator assisted us with the deployment. In total, there were six people involved in setting up the complete configuration. Three of them were from my side, and the other three from the vendor.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The cost price of this product is better than its competitors.
What other advice do I have?

Team Manager at a tech services company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Stable hardware that is straightforward to set up, and the interface is improving
Pros and Cons
- "The feature I like best is the stability of the hardware."
- "They should look at the cost because there are other vendors who offer the same cost with more features."
What is our primary use case?
We use this product for everything. It's a maximum workload. We use the rackmount for virtual workloads, databases, applications, centralized workflows, Hadoop, and Big Data.
What is most valuable?
The feature I like best is the stability of the hardware.
I like the UI that has recently been launched in the Hitachi help center.
What needs improvement?
They need to focus on a single UI, then the multiple components.
They should look at the cost because there are other vendors who offer the same cost with more features.
I would like to see the UI flexibility improved, as most of the vendors are providing a better UI.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with the Hitachi F-Series for the last three years. In total, I have been working with Hitachi products for about 15 years.
