Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The templates are a valuable feature. You can make templates. There is a space inside where you can create pages. When you use the template, the page auto-generates text and images. You do not have to think about the structure of your page as well, which I think is a very good thing for a user. Because usually when you're in front of a blank page, it can be a bit dreadful to know where to start.""Great shareable and co-editing features.""For me, the most valuable feature is its high performance. It's crucial for us in the bank, as we handle a massive number of transactions every day.""As for valuable features, the team management features help us to share information very easily.""Easy to share information and the integration with JIRA is good.""The search functionality is a really powerful feature.""It is a good collaboration tool.""Confluence is easy to use and integrate with other solutions, including social media platforms."

More Atlassian Confluence Pros →

"The feature I find most valuable is that Drupal is a framework and not only a CMS.""It is good for big projects.""We use a part of the solution called Acquia. The personalization portion of this is the most valuable aspect fo the solution.""You can build websites on it very quickly."

More Drupal Pros →

"For SharePoint, I believe the most valuable feature is the customization and allowing you to share and edit files and documents. Being able to share externally and the precise administration of the files in terms of giving permissions and controlling who has access to what is a very good feature.""The ability to take Excel files and make them dynamic SharePoint lists with instant reporting capabilities has been a major benefit.""The most valuable feature is the ability to easily build intranet sites for communicating within teams, storing documentation, product information, pricing policies, updates on product infrastructure, and other related news.""Our staff found it simpler, as they did not have to work within a classification system.""Staff training is reduced because learning basic SharePoint is not as complicated as an EDRMS.""There is not just one valuable feature; it is all of them working together.""The search feature is valuable.""The ability to quickly and easily create team sites has been great."

Cons
"The roadmap feature should be made easier to work with and modify. It's not really scalable.""An area for improvement would be the intuitiveness of using the features, especially if you want to customize.""The user interface could be improved.""I would like Confluence to include the ability to draw flowcharts and diagrams.""The product should have a workflow with approvals out-of-the-box.""The scalability for larger companies could be improved.""It lacks ease of integration.""There is room for improvement in terms of pricing."

More Atlassian Confluence Cons →

"The user experience in designing layouts should be much easier or much more helpful.""Digital experience features like target, segmentation, and campaign management have a long way to go.""I think the support needs to improve, as well as the integration with tracking and analytics systems.""It is a little bit simplified."

More Drupal Cons →

"This solution would benefit from the implementation of enhanced online forms and template development capabilities.""It has worked very well for me. It seems like they've improved everything. I don't have any cons about it as such, but I don't think they have a talk-to-text, speech-to-text, or speech-to-type. That would be cool for accessibility.""It should have more user-friendly customization, as it still requires developers to get engaged and build sites.""Needs improvement on the user interface.""Emails stored now do not display metadata in native format.""SharePoint Online could improve the user interface and when modifying any of the user interfaces can be challenging. Additionally, there are challenges with the detail in the analytics user interface and the overall customization could improve.""The limitations and boundaries must be extended.""I would like it to be more compliant with global regulations. There are certain features which could be included that currently are not there, such as compliance and record management capabilities."

    Comparison Review

At Mediacurrent we often get requests to compare Drupal to other platforms used for intranet sites and social business platforms (like https://dev.twitter.com/ for example). This is often referred to as “Social Business Software”, which has grown in popularity in recent years. I decided to do a round-up of a couple of the more well known platforms and compare their products to Drupal. In this roundup we will be comparing Jive, Sharepoint and Drupal Commons. Drupal Commons is a popular distribution created by Acquia to compete with some of these other proprietary platforms. There are many other options out there, commercial and otherwise, to compare with Drupal but I want to focus on Jive and Sharepoint for a couple of reasons. I chose Jive because it is one of the leading competitors in this space in respect to market share. Next, I chose Sharepoint because I have some history with Sharepoint. This experience dates back to when I built www.adhe.edu with Sharepoint 2007 a few years ago. I subsequently wrote this blog entry about my experience shortly after joining Mediacurrent. This roundup will also act as a refresher for those who read my original “Drupal vs. Sharepoint” blog. Yammer, which was recently bought by Microsoft and is the tool we currently use for office communication will also get some mentions throughout this article. As I went through and tested each of these tools I used three main criteria in my evaluation Cost Ability to Customize Overall features… Read more →
