Slack Room for Improvement

Slack is not as strong as competitors like Teams when it comes to things like video meetings and audio meetings. Teams is more of a Zoom-like product, where you can get into virtual conferences and work through issues and so on, and that's where Slack doesn't scale as well as Microsoft Teams. I don't know if they will improve this because Zoom is a Slack partner, so Zoom themselves use Slack.

Slack is an official application, and everything should be tracked, but sometimes, we accidentally share sensitive information on open channels. It would be good to have if there was an option to delete messages within a certain time. You could still keep the messages in the background, but they wouldn't be shown to the audience where they were posted.

It could further improve by expanding its integrations to include conference platforms, such as Atlassian and its products. Integrating with platforms like Medium for article sharing and tagging, as well as LinkedIn for publishing posts and connecting them to Slack, would be beneficial. It would be highly advantageous if it could incorporate calendar information from sources like Outlook or Gmail, providing users not only with meeting schedules but also a comprehensive daily agenda view.

The video calling experience on Slack needs improvement. We prefer using Google Hangouts for video and audio calls because the call quality on Slack is not up to the mark. There is still for improvement in this aspect. The audio and video quality is not so good.

So, we have two applications for communication. One is Slack, and the other one is Google Hangouts. So, it is definitely an area of improvement.

We could see improvement in Slack by having an integrated meeting tool. Currently, we rely on third-party integration tools like Zoom to schedule meetings. It would be much more convenient to schedule meetings directly within Slack without additional integrations. It needs to have calendar and CRM integrations as well.

One of the things that could be improved is when you are writing; if you press enter, it automatically sends the message. Sometimes, that happens when you want to add a paragraph inside the Slack tool. You can use the Macintosh command function to move to another part.

Sometimes, it's not easy to delete messages. I'm unsure if you have a specific timeframe to delete.

For me, the only thing I can say is that every time somebody sent me an attachment, the attachment was listed somewhere, and then I had to open the conversation and go to the individual to open it. So there is no handy repository or an easy way to quickly look at attachments. For me, that was a bit difficult.

I would say that having a small panel with a list of all shared attachments with whom I'm conversing would be important. Many times, I had to search and had some trouble finding the file. But that's about it. That would be a significant improvement based on my experience.

The reason we are considering other products is because of integration. It doesn't integrate with CRM or ERP. We worked with Microsoft Exchange and we worked with CyberArk. We have what we need, so we don't require Slack anymore. But I think it's a good product.

The reason is we are moving towards a new CRM, so we have a suitable solution to integrate with the new CRM. We have more specific needs now. Slack lacks in certain integration.

Their notifications are generally not very prompt. There is a problem with their notification engine, and sometimes, I end up pressing on notifications. There are a few bugs there.

It also tends to lag sometimes. It gets slow.

I would like to be able to do live streaming on Slack. Slack allows Slack huddle where you can do a group call, but it is not very well-designed. I'm not sure if it is going very well, but live streaming is one thing that I would definitely love to see. When you use Zoom, I like how you can run webinars. If we could do that through Slack, it would become an all-integrated platform. I would also like to be able to schedule meetings using Slack, similar to Zoom.

I would like to see better connectivity between Slack and Gmail where Slack can prompt me for some of the things from my Gmail. For example, there can be a prompt such as "This person has been mailed, and you can contact him through Slack."

It should have an automated translator. It would be helpful for interacting with people who are multilingual. For example, I speak English, but the other person might not understand English. There should be an automated translator inbuilt into Slack for such situations. Instagram has a similar feature where for a caption, you can click the See Translation button, and it does the translation for you. This is something that Slack could add.

I think the app is good enough, as I don't have any reason to comment negatively on it. The only area of concern that I have is with the inability to preview received documents without having to download them first. This could offer some sense of security and prevent downloading corrupted files or viruses.A "preview attachment/document" would suffice as an improvement, this will allow users decide if the need to download an attachment or not

The profile feature needs improvement. There is little room to add details to this section. It would be nice to be able to add more links or have other ways to connect in this section.

The ability to flesh out the Profile section in Slack by including links
to multiple social channels, a beefier bio and a link to a website would
be helpful for communities using Slack. This feature may not be as
necessary for teams using Slack as an internal communication tool, but
it would encourage them to follow each on other social channels and
potentially spark more engagement across channels.

Better ways to help people get up to date when away from a conversation for a long time, or after bursts of a particular discussion.

Slack has different features to follow up on updates when not directly through notifications.

You can use Show Activity to see where you have been mentioned recently.

You can mark items with Stars to follow topics in a kind-of to-do list. And even if you have a granular control on mobile push and email notifications, when you have been away for sometime, or visit the channel from time to time, and there are channels with a lot of activity, you can have some difficulties to go through the new messages since, without risking to confuse important from non-important conversations.

Recent threaded messages help people center around topics, but still where there's people that come to the channel from time to time, they can feel overwhelmed to go through everything since last time.

Some summary feature can help target most heat or important messages or conversations, or some kind of view of the recent messages by "heat" level (kind of the sorting algorithm of Facebook or LinkedIn for the news feeds).

I would like to see a special feature for multiple people to collaborate on a document, working on it at the same time.

For most add-ons, clients need to know the command to run the add-ons. I think it would be useful for them to design the appropriate icons so that non-IT clients can launch them in a simple and easy way. For example, starting a video conference with an already defined room.

It would be useful for an organization to be able to define a specific storage space for the storage of all documents exchanged by teams

Many of the advanced features and integrations are built with developers in mind. More functionality and integration for other use cases would be welcome.

Slack integrates with bots that automate tasks and add functionality. A large portion of these bots do things specifically to help developers do their jobs, such as accessing code repositories and sharing code with colleagues.

It would be great if there were more bots and third-party integrations that targeted other groups of potential Slack users.

I have found it cumbersome to create and set up groups, or channels. I recall having to go through the application, then back to the web site, and then back to the application. I didn't really like that and this is something in the interface that should be improved. If it were possible or easier to create those working groups within the application, without being taken into a browser and working entirely within the software itself, that would be ideal.

I would like to see integration with collaborative tools, such as word processing software or programming environments and coding software, made clear, easy, and as broad as possible. It should handle simple products, all the way to complex ones. It should be easily embeddable inside a channel so that anyone can use it.

I think that changing the privileges to remove restrictions would help the users to adapt to the platform more easily, removing bottlenecks. Having to request access for particular users is time-consuming and it would be better if more people can do these things themselves.

Archiving for direct messages made tracking back conversations very difficult once the group started to grow large.

From what I noticed while using Slack, once a channel starts growing in
its number of messages, older messages are archived. This made it more
difficult to reference older messages. To be able to search for a particular message, you'll need to remember the exact phrases or the sender.

I think it would be much easier to "Scroll back" into older messages even
though it archived.
