I primarily use SAP Analytics Cloud for developing automated reports and for developing dashboards. The BW takes queries and provides the reports and dashboards.

Stable solution for developing automated reports and dashboards
Pros and Cons
- "Provides rich features for developing automated reports and dashboards."
- "SAP Analytics cloud needs better exporting options."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
I find the linking analysis, blending and predictive analysis features most valuable. Additionally, Smart Insights is a good feature.
What needs improvement?
It would be helpful if it had multiple PowerPoint marks built-in so that it could be shown in PowerPoint presentations. It would also be helpful if you could download this external content onto the Flash File.
For how long have I used the solution?
I began using SAP Analytics Cloud a few months back.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Up until now I have not encountered any kind of stability issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Right now we have 30 to 40 users using it, with plans to increase.
How are customer service and support?
There is no problem with SAP Analytics Cloud support. I do think there should be some training provided. We only have eBooks. I don't think we have any kind of e-learning. It would be good to have SAP training for Analytics Explorer, including some instructor-led training.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward.
Deploying SAP Analytics goes from development to production. It doesn't take much time and is very quick. Setup depends upon the requirements as well as the back-end work to be done.
It's usually around two hours or less.
When deploying SAP Analytics Cloud, they should provide documentation on clear steps regarding the migration.
What about the implementation team?
We implemented it ourselves.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Regarding pricing, I don't know exactly how much it is. I am not aware of the price.
What other advice do I have?
I would advise anyone looking into SAP Analytics Cloud to go for it.
One a scale of 1 - 10 I would rate it an 8. To raise that score they need more exporting options.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

Good graphing and easy to use but needs predictive analytics
Pros and Cons
- "The ease of use of the solution is its most valuable feature. We haven't tried all of the features yet. The graphing and the ease of using the analytics tools have been great. It's all drag and drop; you don't need to code anything."
- "Statistical analysis should be a bit more profound than it is."
What is our primary use case?
We're using the solution to analyze our clients' data to create dashboards for them to decipher the sales patterns, income generated, geographical locations of sales, etc., to get a better understanding of how to spread out the user base.
What is most valuable?
The ease of use of the solution is its most valuable feature. We haven't tried all of the features yet. The graphing and the ease of using the analytics tools have been great. It's all drag and drop; you don't need to code anything.
What needs improvement?
Improvement-wise, it would be great if there were more analytics features in the time series. Having an accessible, easier time series or trying to incorporate more analytics products like ARIMA would be a good addition.
Statistical analysis should be a bit more profound than it is.
The ability to clean the data up would be helpful.
You have to create your own data sources and that's when you have to connect to SAP. If we could go through an SAP source, then design what kind of data we want to pick for an audit in SAP, that would be ideal. I don't want to need to audit the user creator. It would be better if we had the ability to have one person go in and say, okay, I want this data from these different tables. Then, in the backend, it could create it. That would be a vast improvement.
I'm not sure how many databases can really connect to the solution. I've just used Oracle and HANA. They need to ensure the amount of data sources they can connect to is high so that they can compete with a solution like Tableau.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for three months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is quite stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I'm not sure if the solution is scalable as I haven't tried to expand it. According to the data I have of the sources of data that I am collecting, it's fulfilling my requirements right now.
Currently, whatever data I have, it seems able to handle it quite easily. It becomes a bit slow at times, however.
We have clients that range from small to medium-sized enterprises. Some have a user base of around 60,000.
How are customer service and technical support?
I've never contacted technical support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've used Tableau and R in the past. I've also worked with SAS a bit and Python coding among others. When I came to the company, they were using the solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
There's not too much awareness of SAP except for SAP HANA. Many companies have invested in Tableau or Click, but if the pricing was better, this solution might become more popular.
What other advice do I have?
I'm a consultant as well as a user of the solution.
We're a small team that does work for our clients. If our clients want analytics done, we use the solution to work on their data. Our team is about 15 people. Our clients are typically small and medium-sized enterprises.
With some clients, there'll be some hand-holding with them to understand how SAP benefits them. At the same time, we've got some real large giants who have 3,000+ users and they are using a CPS room. They want lots of analytical capabilities. Some use Tableau or Click. The awareness of this solution isn't as good as those.
I'd recommend others try the solution. It's quite a good tool with a lot of features and different user levels. Users don't need to be trained professionals; anyone can start with smaller analyses on their own. A few video tutorials should be sufficient to get someone started. It's only when you get into more complex items that you may need more assistance.
I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.

User-friendly and the visualizations are good, but the reporting needs to be improved
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable features are the visualization and user-friendliness."
- "We are currently working on connectivity with S/4HANA, but we would like to have better connectivity with our legacy systems."
What is our primary use case?
Right now we are doing a PoC on finances and production planning. The most important part is the connectivity and visibility between our legacy system and the cloud. We are testing these things.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features are the visualization and user-friendliness. It's like a self-service platform. If the connectivity is good then anyone can log in and use it.
What needs improvement?
We are currently working on connectivity with S/4HANA, but we would like to have better connectivity with our legacy systems. If they improve third-party connectivity then it would be great for us. No company has SAP alone; they have multiple databases and multiple technologies. The ability to connect to all of these other systems is important.
More functionality has to be added in terms of additional tools and reporting. In our on-premises, BusinessObjects solution, the reports have more crisp and precise visuals. The reports are very cleanly done, and we would like this same functionality in the cloud.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using SAP Analytics Cloud for between eight months and a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This is not a very stable product. It is in its infancy, and although it has not been crashing, the stability needs to be improved.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I think that this solution will scale.
Currently, we have a couple of thousand people who are using this solution. We are just in the prototype and testing phase and deciding how we will introduce this into the company. After our testing, we will decide how it will be inserted into our daily productivity and improve the company's profitability.
The people using SAP Analytics Cloud are in a variety of roles. Most of them are middle-level developers and managers. Perhaps fifteen people from senior management us it.
How are customer service and technical support?
We have been in touch with technical support, and I feel that the people who are working are not very technical at all. They only looked at the notes and read, but we had to tell them that we had already done all of these things so we need something new.
What finally stopped it was that the product managed who actually worked with the tool got involved and was able to easily solve our problem.
Overall, I would say that the technical support is fair. It is not excellent or good, but fair.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I am using SAP BusinessObjects in addition to this solution. It has some advantages in terms of additional tools and reporting, which is why we cannot switch at this time.
How was the initial setup?
SAP does the setup and maintenance of this solution.
What other advice do I have?
My advice to anybody who is implementing this solution is to first look at the connectivity that is required. Second, look at the functionality and the visuality that you are going to need. If you are looking at simple things, like traditional visualization, then this solution is good to go. However, if you're thinking about more complex scenarios with more complex logic, then you may need to wait.
I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

Eye-appealing visualizations and good predictive analytics, but more standard chart types should be included
Pros and Cons
- "The Smart Predict, Smart Insights, and Smart Discovery predictive analysis features are quite good."
- "Some of the standard visualizations, such as a speedometer or a goal chart, are not there and should be added."
What is our primary use case?
We are a consulting firm and we implement SAP Analytics Cloud for our clients.
This solution is for digital boardroom purposes.
How has it helped my organization?
Our clients do not have knowledge of business analytics, so we assist them by implementing this solution for them. Our customers are made up of medium-sized companies with fewer than one hundred employees.
What is most valuable?
The visualizations are quite eye-appealing.
The Smart Predict, Smart Insights, and Smart Discovery predictive analysis features are quite good.
What needs improvement?
Some of the standard visualizations, such as a speedometer or a goal chart, are not there and should be added. These are available in other solutions like R, but with SAP you need to have R code written for them. This can be time-consuming.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for one and a half years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This solution is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This is a cloud solution so it is definitely scalable. On average, our clients have between 20 and 30 people who are using SAP Analytics Cloud.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have also worked with SAP BusinessObjects and QlikView.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup can be a little bit complex when it comes to establishing the connection. We have seen some difficulties with that. There is a big list of things that you need to go through.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
The same things can be done using Tableau.
What other advice do I have?
The suitability of this solution depends on several things including use case, budget, and licensing costs. Tableau will do the same thing as this solution.
If cost is not a problem and you want to try something new then I would recommend SAP Analytics Cloud.
I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Good reporting, stable, and easy to install
Pros and Cons
- "All of the modules that we used to have separately in our on-premises solution are now integrated into one platform."
- "I would like to see reporting to the Analytics cloud directly."
What is our primary use case?
I am a consultant and SAP Analytics Cloud is one of the solutions that I work with.
We created our queries in SAP BW and then we use them in Analytics Cloud. We have modules like MFI and reports.
What is most valuable?
All of the modules that we used to have separately in our on-premises solution are now integrated into one platform.
The quality of reports for the users is very good.
The Application Designer is a good tool.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see reporting to the Analytics cloud directly. As it is now, we can integrate text reports in Analytics Cloud, but every time we create a model then we have to design the reports. It is taking a long time because we have fifty to sixty reports.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for two to three months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This solution is mostly stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have two or three people using this solution, although they are not using it full time. We have given them training, but they are taking some time to get acquainted.
I would rate the scalability a seven out of ten. I have not used all the features and not used the application designer yet.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have not been in contact with technical support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Prior to this solution, we were using Business Objects. We were more acquainted with the WEBI tool and Crystal Reports, and have now moved to the Analytics Cloud.
We switched because, in the future, SAP Cloud is going to support export to HANA.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup of this solution was quite simple.
I did face a little bit of complexity when I was connecting the Analytics Cloud to BW, but everything else was fine.
What about the implementation team?
We performed the implementation in-house.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We thought about going with Tableau Cloud. We attended some sessions on SAP Analytics Cloud and learned about the integration with HANA, and we felt that it would be very good so we chose it.
What other advice do I have?
My advice to anybody who is thinking about moving out of their standalone system is to implement this solution.
I would rate this solution a ten out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Private Cloud

Easy for cloud-based story development with powerful what-if analysis functionality
Pros and Cons
- "The new Application Design option offers lots of customization options by being able to script in Typescript (similar to Javascript)."
- "There should be more features for the time series charts."
What is our primary use case?
We have been using this solution for story development on the cloud.
How has it helped my organization?
This is a very easy solution to learn. It took us only one month to grasp all of the SAC concepts.
What is most valuable?
The new Application Design option offers lots of customization options by being able to script in TypeScript (similar to JavaScript).
It provides easy predictive capabilities with a large number of options to choose from, including date handling.
The what-if analysis sets it apart from other reporting tools like Qlik and Power BI!
The most valuable features of this solution are:
- It is Cloud based.
- Predictive analysis
- Application design/analytic application.
- The "what-if" analysis.
- Easy date handling including options for ytd, lytd, etc.
- There are lots of table features including adding comments.
- Responsive pages.
- Smart Insights.
- Smart discovery.
What needs improvement?
The next release could include features like:
- A community that creates custom charts.
- Table cell size formatting.
- Formatting options for Data Labels.
- Allowing comments within small teams.
- There should be more features for the time series charts.
- Rebuild models without affecting any chart.
SAC is already working on some of these!
For how long have I used the solution?
Six months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
My impression is that the stability of this solution is very high.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This is a highly scalable solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
This solution has excellent support and customer service. It is the best compared to other vendors that I have dealt with until now.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have used Qlik and Power BI, but after learning SAC I felt that it was better to move to this solution. The main reasons for changing are its ease of use and better capabilities.
How was the initial setup?
Extremely easy setup, since it is cloud-based. Only in the rarest cases is there a failure.
What about the implementation team?
We performed the implementation in-house.
What was our ROI?
We have realized ROI through improved Business Intelligence and Analytics.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is a bit expensive, but really worth it, especially if you are already using other SAP tools.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We evaluated several options including QlikView, QlikSense, and Power BI.
What other advice do I have?
My only suggestion is that people try SAC, and start using it.

Real-time data makes for a single version of the truth
Pros and Cons
- "Real-time data makes for a single version of the truth."
- "The stories have really been helpful in looking at specific scenarios and analyzing trends over periods of time."
- "We need to know that we are using the latest and greatest, and SAP appears as if it has lost some credit in the market."
What is our primary use case?
- We use this across the organization to share data via the cloud solution and present to businesses and clients.
- We use it to visually graph data and view trends.
- Having it available from the cloud helps us have real-time data and collaboration across teams.
How has it helped my organization?
It supports better decision-making across organization. Real-time data makes for a single version of the truth. This helps teams work together and effectively analyse trends and performance metrics.
What is most valuable?
The stories have really been helpful in looking at specific scenarios and analyzing trends over periods of time. We work with a lot of financial metrics and being able to track performance over time is imperative.
For how long have I used the solution?
One to three years.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Microsoft and Tableau are market leaders in my opinion. They have more advanced features and more depth in the stories' functionality, for example. We need to know that we are using the latest and greatest, and SAP appears as if it has lost some credibility in the market.

Comes with good data visualization capabilities and useful for financial planning
Pros and Cons
- "The product is flexible and has features like AI, link analysis, and insights. It has many features. I can search, and it creates automatic charts without selecting anything. For example, I can ask, "What is the gross margin?" the tool builds a chart based on my question."
- "The connection works only for importing data. Currently, there is no real-time integration between SAP Analytics Cloud and CRM. There are some features present in the classic but not in the optimized version. If I need to create something specific, I often have to switch the versions. It would be more convenient to have a single product that incorporates all the necessary features."
What is our primary use case?
We use the product for grid storage, retail, and high-level management.
What is most valuable?
The product is flexible and has features like AI, link analysis, and insights. It has many features. I can search, and it creates automatic charts without selecting anything. For example, I can ask, "What is the gross margin?" the tool builds a chart based on my question.
SAP Analytics Cloud's visualization capabilities for data analysis are good.
What needs improvement?
The connection works only for importing data. Currently, there is no real-time integration between SAP Analytics Cloud and CRM. There are some features present in the classic but not in the optimized version. If I need to create something specific, I often have to switch the versions. It would be more convenient to have a single product that incorporates all the necessary features.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the product for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
SAP Analytics Cloud is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable, and it has six developer users.
How are customer service and support?
The tool's technical support is not very easy, and they tend to ask many questions, taking more time to respond and get back with another question.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Negative
How was the initial setup?
The tool's onboarding was easy and not complex. It doesn't require any maintenance.
What other advice do I have?
The solution operates in real-time, but we had an issue with it. Fortunately, the team resolved it. Usually, working with real-time or various-time connections prompts entering connection criteria like a new username and password.
It is also useful for financial planning. Additionally, I use it for costs related to time series jobs.Understanding the forecasting process can be like dealing with a black box. I recognize the need for flexible tools that allow me to choose the algorithm and see what's happening in the backend. It will help to determine whether the forecasting is working or not.
I recommend the product. It is very useful. I rate it an eight out of ten.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
