We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I like the deep-dive detail and end-user metrics data. The synthetic monitor is the best one. The best point of the new one is that there's no need for configuration. You can inject the Java script and start to change major developments in the application. This is a good approach, and we received all the data using this.""It works irrespective of the operating system we’re running.""The event management tool builds correlation logic and protection algorithms into a field of events that is valuable when a data center goes down.""The solution has a very good business event manager tool.""BMC TrueSight Operations Management is easily scalable.""The event management part of TrueSight Operations Management, in my experience, is probably the best in the market. You have endless flexibility. You can build your own rules, you have the MRL language, and you can implement any kind of logic on the alerts. It may be correlation, abstraction, or executing something as a result of the alerts. You have almost the whole range of options available for event management using the available customization.""The tailoring of the knowledge modules has been particularly useful as I can streamline the agents to only report on critical events.""I like everything about this tool. I recommend this solution to anyone looking for a standalone solution with high availability meaning that can be used depending on the customers requirements."

"My primary use of the tool is to keep revenue coming into the business and to use it to help our business team in running their site analytics and web performance tools. They have things like Adobe Analytics that provide them with one layer of data. We use Dynatrace as another railroad metric to both confirm the Adobe Analytics data and enhance it in certain places where Adobe won't give us the answers that we need. In terms of metrics, we've had roughly about 120,000 unique sessions per hour on our website. So, we're capturing a lot of session data and real user data, and all of that data is kept in user sessions. We can look this information up by user ID to tag any given session that we want to find by date/client. E.g., if the user said that they had an issue last Thursday at 11:00 PM, then we can just do a search on their email address, go through all their sessions, and find the one that they mentioned, then dig directly into that one.""It helps developers fix old and new problems, helps businesses to understand conversions, statistics, and service health.""It helps our organization identify potential problems by doing thorough analysis of systems which integrate with one another.""The user experience allows us to be able to gauge customer experience and understand the performance impact of our platform.""Quick availability of multiple aspects of performance from infrastructure to application layers.""We're able to tell them which calls, which methods, which interface were the problem.""Dynatrace provides probable root cause for any issues which assists our support team to quickly address issues identified by Dynatrace.""It is useful for analytics, web performance, end-to-end coverage of a user experience, and database analytics. It is absolutely a monitoring tool that is worth having. The visibility that it provides is a unique feature of this product."

More Dynatrace Pros →

"ManageEngine Applications Manager's installation is pretty easy.""The most valuable feature is the ability to be able to monitor Kubernetes.""The initial setup was straightforward, without complexity.""The feature that I have found most valuable in ManageEngine Applications Manager is its dashboard.""I am impressed with the tool's reporting feature which is simple.""What I like most about ManageEngine Applications Manager is its price point, apart from its technicalities. The solution is cheaper than its competitors. ManageEngine Applications Manager has helpful documentation that makes setting it up straightforward.""ITSM is a valuable feature, it complies with the requirements in Pakistan.""We do not have pricing constraints as an organization, because we do have reservations about ManageEngine being functionally scalable."

Cons
"In our company, we faced some issues with the solution’s application endpoint, IP, and the physical location of the transactions.""I would really like to see out-of-the-box support for monitoring uninterruptible power supplies.""Specifically around application performance monitoring, BMC is definitely not the market leader. The Dynatraces, the New Relics and the like are more of the market leaders in that space. I would like to see them grow that space a little bit more aggressively. It has not really been their bread and butter.""It's too complex, too many servers are required, there are too many different components in the solution, and a lot of agents are required.""We have a unique use case because BMC typically sells this solution into enterprises that are deploying it within their IT, versus to a managed services provider like us where we're supporting thousands of customers. Multi-tenancy and the scalability have been challenges along the way, as we've grown... If anything could have gone better as we were ramping this up and adding a lot of volume to it, I would say it's the scalability. That would be one thing that could be improved.""This solution is lacking in application monitoring features. Technical support for this solution also needs improvement, particularly in product knowledge and response time.""BMC's online documentation is often incorrect or incomplete.""The knowledge modules could be more lightweight in size. At present, the installation packages can be quite large."

More BMC TrueSight Operations Management Cons →

"You have got cloning at one level, but it would be nice to have cloning at deeper levels. Or, as you are doing the cloning, it would be nice if you could select different options. Then, you are not having to sit there and build dashboards, and spending a lot of time in the cloning area.""Add support for Ruby.""The dashboard tool needs to be improved. We need more options, because the look and feel is too old-fashioned.""Alert triggers could be easier to setup and more granular.""We ran into a problem where the Dynatrace JavaScript agent is returning errors, and it's very apparent that there's a problem. However, the customer support will ask us for seemingly unnecessary details instead of looking at our dashboard through their account to see what the problem is. They ask us for a lot of details not really related to solving the problem. As a result, we still have a few issues that were never resolved. They're not major issues, but they're kind of frustrating.""Most of the time, chat support is not good enough for answering queries.""The new Dynatrace solution lacks test-automation integration inside the CI pipeline. I hope that will arrive soon.""Some technical architectures are based on an event mechanism operating via a publish/subscribe system. APM technology sometimes reaches its limits to go upstream."

More Dynatrace Cons →

"The information provided by ManageEngine is not deep-dive like IBM and CA provide.""The problem is that implementation requires a significant amount of mapping effort.""Lacks an SIEM solution which can be found in other products.""The agent often crashes when there is too much load on the application side. If a sudden storm of data comes in, the agent crashes down most of the time.""I would like the solution to improve the ability to track services.""Even with the top-notch dashboard, it could be made stronger in order to have an additional plug-in for analytics.""An area for improvement in ManageEngine Applications Manager is artificial intelligence. If AI is integrated into the solution, it'll be a piece of cake. Currently, it's all configured manually.""One area of improvement is the dashboard should be more readable and available."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Use conservative figures. In terms of hardware, monitored servers and also effort. The product is not cheap. But as with other products, you get what you pay for."
  • "The solutions are not the cheapest but are robust and stable. License model is rather complex and BMC do often change the model."
  • "Pricing is very high."
  • "We pay license fees of between $150 and $200 per asset. There is an enterprise software license fee, and then you pay a percentage for your maintenance, and then Premier Support. For example, if you buy a two-year license for the product, then the maintenance fee is added to that for two years at X percent a year. Then there's a small fee on top of that for Premier Support..."
  • "Pricing is all volume-driven. I think we were paying between $80 and $85 per license. That's per unit, for a perpetual license. You pay it one time and then, every year, you pay 20 percent of that for annual maintenance and support. But now that we've grown, we've purchased tens of thousands of licenses and the cost per license has gone down to something like less than $30..."
  • "It is a large, complex product. So, there is a commitment of manpower to deploy it, as it is not a cheap product."
  • "There is a big upfront cost when you buy the license, then there is annual maintenance. We look at, if I bought a license and paid for maintenance for five years, then average it out, what would be my monthly cost. We have had some of the competing tools come in around four dollars. This is coming in as a premium, which is why I don't have it deployed as I would like it. Therefore, we're in negotiations right now. If I can get it down to the four dollar range, I will triple my deployment in a year and a half."
  • "The only possible additional cost that I can mention, that you might not be aware of, is that it uses Oracle partitioning, if you use Oracle. There are Oracle partitioning fees that go with that."

  • "Pricing is based on the number of servers monitored, so for big applications, it is a bit expensive."
  • "Licensing is a bit complicated for Dynatrace, and pricing is dependent on how much your organization invests."
  • "We found an issue within the first week of ownership that has been costing us more than the entire license cost."
  • "Product pricing can seem a little over complex, however this is minor and does not detract from the benefits of the solution."
  • "Getting the first agents installed, getting information, and coverage in a initial set of systems can be done in hours and with a low cost entry point."
  • "Price (of the product) is a major concern for all the clients I work with."
  • "The licensing model is confusing in solutioning clients for the number of hosts needed to deploy."
  • "The product is superior to others, but it comes with a price tag that is often difficult to position back to clients."
  • More Dynatrace Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It is a cost-effective solution."
  • "The cost of this solution is not too bad, although it could be cheaper considering what you're getting for the price."
  • "The licensing costs for ManageEngine Applications Manager are around $1,200 per year. For additional monitors, you have to pay extra."
  • "Its price is good."
  • "The annual licensing depends on the number of monitors you have connected. Once you get to two hundred monitors you can see the price reflect."
  • "ManageEngine Applications Manager has reasonable pricing. It's more affordable than other solutions in the market. My company has an instance-based license for ManageEngine Applications Manager. You can purchase a yearly subscription or a perpetual license. The standard license covers most features, but you can still have some paid add-ons."
  • "The solution's licensing costs are yearly."
  • "Price-wise, it is a cheap tool...The solution's licensing model is subscription-based, in which yearly payments are to be made."

You have endless flexibility. You can build your own rules, you have the MRL language, and you can implement any kind of logic on the alerts. It may be correlation, abstraction, or executing something as a result of the alerts. You have almost the whole range of options available for event management using the available customization."

A General Manager - Sales at a tech services company explains, “There are many features that are most valuable in BMC TrueSight Operations Management. First, its proactive monitoring feature is highly developed. BMC TrueSight Operations Management is an intelligent tool that's able to understand day-to-day operations and consistently gives alerts. The alerts are not automatic for some activities, e.g. some alerts are given monthly, while some are given more frequently. The consolidated dashboard where you can enjoy a single pane of glass to look at the full infrastructure from the servers to the VMs, to the clouds, to the application, to the database, to the network devices, including having a topology, and having a tendency map of the topology of key offerings, is also a valuable feature of this solution.”

An Information Systems Computer System Controller at an insurance company states, “The business event manager tool that consolidates detailed information from a single instance of equipment is the most valuable thing for me. It provides support for the business tools and the IT services which come from several systems.”
