Sophos UTM Primary Use Case

My main use case for Sophos UTM is to support several customers; we have some enterprise customers as well, but they use different firewalls, and for the smaller customers, usually we have our local Sophos, and then they have their own Sophos at their premises. We usually have site-to-site VPNs and monitor their on-premise equipment with our monitoring system.
At our own company, we also use Sophos UTM as a mail gateway, and we use it for the VPNs for the road warriors, providing remote access for employees.

We are still working with Sophos UTM, so I can confirm that we have not switched to something else.
I have been working with Sophos UTM since 2018.
The most valuable features in Sophos UTM are Mail Protection, Web Server, advanced endpoint, and the servers. Our systems are silent, secure, and we don't have many problems with security policy enforcement.
In terms of setting rules to guard the organization, especially on the network, we can set those rules, and through Sophos Central, we are able to see the equipment that has been registered and all the reports on the performance of each piece of equipment. For the endpoint equipment, there are close to 300 people using Sophos UTM in my company.
We have five administrators and around 10 servers, so we have advanced server protection that we are using.

Currently, I have Sophos UTM. I don't remember the details. I know it's about management. I have monitoring from Sophos, alongside the Sophos firewall and Sophos antivirus. Sophos manages the service, with people monitoring my network, including the data from my endpoints and firewalls. They can alert me if there is a security risk. I purchase this service through a distributor in Colombia because the service offers direct management and monitoring.

Most of my customers have more than one or two sites which are connected with the IPsec tunnel. For some people, they need VPN to enter the particular main HO site and access all other remote site subnets, such as when there is a file server hosted on another site. This was a simple use case: from one site, they will enter from SSL VPN to one site and access all their remote sites using this VPN policy only. We don't need to require the VPN for all particular single sites; we create only one single VPN, and from that single console, they can access all these sites as well.
Currently I am working at AVH, which is a system integrator that provides solutions such as security and UTM solutions to clients. My task is the complete installation and implementation of these firewalls and, apart from that, post-support calls. If clients are facing any issues, they reach out to our company, and the company assigns me to their tech solutions.
For the initial setup, we create an SSL VPN portal for this customer's public IP, and we make some local subnet so that the user will get some local subnet IP after connecting with Sophos UTM. After that, we allow the security policy, which determines which resources they can access after connecting with Sophos UTM. They access Sophos UTM VPN using the public IP, and then when they enter the site, they can access the limited resources we have allowed in the policies.

Our company is a partner and reseller of the solution. We lease, sell, and license boxes for our clients. Use cases are rather unique and not uniform.
We provide support for a few SMBs around the country.
Some customers are heavy users, with involved configurations, and the setup may include high availability configured with two boxes.
Others use it as just a gateway between their infrastructure and the internet with very simple configurations that don't include web filtering.
Active directory integration domain is used for some, but not all customers. Common items include DNATs and SSL VPN. Most customers use VPNs, and site-to-site connections (REDs or IPsec).
We also use virtualized UTMs for LABs.

Sophos UTM is a complete firewall we use to protect from internet threats and check traffic from our network to the internet. It's a firewall covering all layers of protection.
Sophos has some plugins that run on the cloud, but it's transparent to the end-user. For example, there is something to identify threats on an email system called SenseStorm, which is connected to the Sophos Cloud and identifies new threats then spreads the same pattern to all Sophos installations in real-time. I can say that almost 100 percent of our customer companies who have a file solution use Sophos.

Sophos UTM offers considerable protection and employs a very well-structured pricing scheme.
It's a good choice for businesses that need a basic security solution with a good price-performance ratio. However, it's not a good choice for businesses that need a complex security solution. That's why I'm also considering Fortinet, which can provide a more comprehensive security solution.

Mostly when we see that the client has no security product, we offer both of the products: firewall and endpoint security. We offer endpoint security solutions: EDR and XDR.
Most of the time, we offer Sophos UTM and firewall products, but when we see that the customer has a firewall already deployed, we pitch endpoint security. If they're already using a different product, we cross-sell a product. For example, if someone has an environment with just endpoint security and doesn't have XDR or EDR, we'll suggest upgrading to XDR or we'll upsell XDR.

We were looking for a solution which provided a single view for both a wired and wireless network. We were previously using the Cyberoam 200ia firewall appliance and wanted an appliance which could support 1500 to 3000 corporate users. The solution also required a wireless access controller scalable to at least a 125 second wave 802.11 ac wireless access point. We purchased a Sophos XG 450 appliance with Sophos wireless access points.

We have been rolling out the Sophos UTM platform to our clients over the past two years. About 80% of our managed clients have been moved to Sophos UTM. We have been migrating them mostly from SonicWall and Cisco ASA.
We do not use Sophos UTM in AWS. However, we have deployed a few Sophos XGs in an Azure environment.

We have quite a lot of web service hosting, either websites or hosting APIs. We use Sophos as a two-factor authentication process. So, if they are outside or working in a remote office, they will need to use the Sophos VPN, which is gotten from the Sophos UTM, then ideally they will be developers. However, they can also be BI guys, DevOps people, etc.
Sophos UTM allows you to compartmentalize different sections or different people, having those people connect to different services.
We use it for primarily for two-factor authentication, for VPN to allow employees security access the servers and to ensure people do not access things they should not have access to.
