Okta Platform Valuable Features

The best features offered by Okta Platform that stand out most to me in my day-to-day work include Universal Directory and profile mapping, which matter as they form the foundation for clean attribute-driven access. I can normalize identities from HR and AD, map attributes once, and drive consistent entitlement across apps.
Additionally, features including group rules, dynamic assignments, SSO with robust protocols supporting SAML and various OIDC integrations, excellent provisioning, deprovisioning capabilities, adaptive MFA, WebAuthn, and efficient system and troubleshooting tools also stand out.
Universal Directory and profile mapping help me with day-to-day identity management by serving as the backbone for keeping identity data clean, consistent, and automation-friendly. Practically, Universal Directory acts as a single source of truth for users, allowing us to aggregate attributes from HR, Workday, AD, and other sources into a single Okta Platform user profile. This normalization standardizes formats, such as email in lowercase and phone numbers in E.164, preventing downstream apps from breaking due to case sensitivity or formatting.
Profile mapping enables me to transform attributes once, such as concatenating first.last for usernames, deriving different manager emails, and reusing them across all apps. This creates clean, predictable attributes driving group rules, which in turn govern app assignments and SCIM provisioning, making the JML process work efficiently without the need for tickets.
Okta Platform Integration Network's capability to enable faster deployments serves as a force multiplier for speed and risk reduction when it is mature and well-curated. It essentially turns a lot of custom work into configuration, which results in gains in deployment speed and reliability.
I assess the role of Universal Directory as a single source of truth for user identities in my organization as central to how we enforce identity hygiene and drive automated access. Its role functions as an authoritative profile and policy engine that normalizes identity data and pushes clean, consistent attributes downstream. We utilize it for data aggregation, normalization, profile mapping and precedence, attribute-driven access, federation claims, and policy enforcement. The measured outcomes with Universal Directory in the middle indicate that onboarding lifecycle durations dropped by more than 30 to 40%, with late access-related tickets falling by the same percentage, around 35 to 40%.
View full review »Context-awareness is more about not just the username or service principals, but also depends upon where and how that particular user is accessing things from. If a particular user changes the endpoint from which they are trying to log in or changes location quite abruptly within a span of few minutes, which is superhuman activity, then that additional context gets captured. You get a true risk-based authentication wherein you have to satisfy more authentication parameters or factors before you can actually get access to the resource.
At the same time, you can also do a lot of conditional access things where if there is a certain level of risk associated with that particular authenticated session, then you can actually restrict the level of access that that particular user can have so that you do not penalize the user just because some session is potentially risky. You can let the user have the ability to do at least the basic work or remediate things. Okta Platform is a full-blown Identity and Access Management solution, so it does send out attributes which can be passed from the identity to the service principle, which is your application. Depending upon that, you can let the application know that this particular user, because it is risky, is not going to be able to access the usual things, but maybe restrict the access. This is completely based upon the context of that particular user's authentication session.
View full review »The best feature is the speed and execution of Okta Workforce Identity. The moment you click on single sign-on, you immediately get the notification on your mobile phone, then you do the authentication and within a second you get authenticated. The entire customer experience is very good. The user interface is pretty simple, straightforward, and really good.
Multi-factor authentication in Okta Workforce Identity is very useful so people who do not have access or are trying to access using just a user ID and password will be completely blocked because of this two-factor authentication. You will get the code, and as your device is authorized in the system, only that device can be used for the authentication purpose. A third person trying to access or hack your data will not be able to do that anymore. Additionally, you don't have to remember your passwords going forward. Previously, every 60 days or 90 days, passwords kept changing. With the two-factor authentication or single sign-on option in Okta Workforce Identity, you don't have to remember it anymore or write down passwords in plain text. If something goes wrong, we have the IAM team which can unlock your account immediately if you have issues.

I appreciate the authentication flow of Okta Platform because it is seamless and provides insight into how to easily automate the workflow for authentication and MFA so that it is easy to use within systems where one password or one user detail can be used to access various platforms. The workflow with Okta Platform is something I value.
Okta Platform provides centralized identity, which is a significant benefit. For instance, I use AWS, but if I want to access Okta Platform, my login details for AWS are not required. Using it for building systems for customers allows companies to access their systems seamlessly through the same procedure, which makes the workflow easy for them. Role-based access is one of the things that Okta Platform helped us implement. One of the systems I built and led the team to develop had a super admin dashboard that extends through a complete chain. We were able to use Okta Platform to manage roles, and this is one of the key areas where Okta Platform has helped me.
View full review »The main features of Okta Customer Identity that I find most valuable are its security and easy accessibility.
We are using the self-service feature in Okta Customer Identity for almost one year now. Previously, it was not configured, but now we are using it.
We find Okta Adaptive Authentication useful as whatever feature we feel should be implemented and beneficial for users, we have implemented it. We use multi-factor authentication and it is 100% implemented. Multi-factor authentication is also useful for the security part for us.
The report functionality is another important part of Okta Customer Identity; we might need to check logs and other things. The report part is very much useful. I am 100% satisfied with the customizable options in Okta reporting features. This is a very good feature, and it is 100% implemented, so I do not want any changes because it is working as expected.
View full review »The best features of Okta Platform include the import feature, which allows for new employees joining the organization to have their AD account created, and when this import runs from AD to Okta Platform, this employee will be created in Okta Platform. This feature represents automation between Okta Platform and AD.
Apart from these features, I appreciate that there are password policies and authentication policies or network zones we can configure in Okta Platform. If we want to restrict the users from logging in from specific network zones or blacklisted ones, we can configure those.
The context-aware policies of adaptive MFA influence my authentication process because we can enable more MFA based on client requirements. Okta Platform is one of the MFA tools available, alongside others such as RSA, and based on the requirements, we can enable those and apply the policy accordingly.
The positive impact I have seen from using Okta Platform is that it makes it easier for new joiners to get birthright access and have users added based on department or employee type. We implement rules and policies, such as when a user joins the sales department; we can configure the group rule, and the user will automatically be tagged to that specific group. This represents an automated process with Okta Platform, rather than doing it manually.
The automated lifecycle management helps with the efficiency of onboarding and offboarding by ensuring that once a user joins the organization, they come into HRMS. From there, it goes to AD, and the target will be Okta Platform. Birthright access and applications are provisioned based on conditions. For offboarding, if an event is triggered, such as leaver or termination, values will be populated in AD, and once the import runs, Okta Platform will terminate the user, disabling access and removing whatever accesses the user had.
View full review »The best features that Okta Workforce Identity offers are single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, and privileged access management. It has reduced the time required for authentication and provided a secured way of accessing the Amazon web console.
View full review »Ease of use is what I value most about Okta Platform. It is not difficult to learn or navigate. Once you have a username and password, you can have your computer memorize it. On my phone, I use Face ID so that I am not having to type in my password every single time, but it does make things very secure. If I ever were to leave my laptop anywhere by accident and not be able to recover it that same day, I would be able to trust that it would block anybody from getting access to anything because that is something you have to log into every day. Ease of use and the ability to trust the product are what I value most.
Okta Platform does not recognize when I have already verified myself once on my HubSpot login across multiple tabs. I have to verify myself for every single tab. If there were a way to recognize that I already verified myself on that URL or domain and just give me access to the rest of the tabs instead of having to click one by one, that would be an improvement.
View full review »The most valuable feature of Okta Customer Identity is the application interface with SSO. Integration with SSO helps us make use of the credentials. Once we log in, we get the opportunity to explore many applications within the organization with the same login, with no need to log in again.
Adaptive authentication in Okta Customer Identity is a flexible feature that is very secure and user-friendly. The authentication is more complex for man-in-the-middle attacks while remaining useful for end users.
Okta Customer Identity's API gives a clear view of how user onboarding takes place, so we can easily configure with Postman. We can onboard and off-board users, which is very flexible through the APIs.
Regarding multi-factor authentication, it helps reduce unauthorized access in our organization. We are using passwordless authentication with Okta FastPass on mobile devices. Users can get authenticated with two-factor authentication, first entering the password, then directly using the second factor authentication with Okta FastPass.
View full review »Okta Customer Identity focuses on providing top-notch identity management solutions. One of its most valuable features is its easy integration with various applications through its extensive application directory, offering hundreds or thousands of applications ready to configure. This integration is significantly easier compared to Microsoft Entra ID, where we encountered numerous issues. We particularly value its real-time reporting capabilities. For example, we detected cyberattacks from countries like Russia and Asia and were able to block those IP addresses and configure our system for more security. These advanced security features and reporting capabilities make it easy to manage.

In my opinion, Okta Platform's best features include federation, which is very important, especially when you work with different systems. SAML plays an important role, and then there is the OAuth feature of Okta Platform and the OpenID. Those three—SAML, OAuth, and OpenID—are crucial. The scope, which is essentially the permission that you give to a token, and then the token that is being used by the application or by your user to authenticate themselves, is also important.
Automated lifecycle management positively impacts onboarding and offboarding processes for Okta Platform in terms of efficiency. When you integrate with Workday, ServiceNow, ITSM, and HR, those integrations make the onboarding process quite smooth. Whether the application involves a new employee, a joiner, or a leaver, those integrations handle all of those scenarios.
View full review »The best features Okta Platform offers are easy SSO, strong security, and improved productivity.
Out of easy SSO, strong security, and improved productivity, the single sign-on has had the biggest impact for my team because it protects effectively and signs on without problems.
Okta Platform has positively impacted my organization with easy single sign-on, as we need single sign-on multifactor authentication for various things and Okta Platform is very secure.
I have definitely noticed specific outcomes such as fewer help desk tickets, as it is very straightforward, streamlined, and easy to use.
View full review »The Single Sign-On and Multi-factor Authentication features are the best that Okta Platform offers. These features make my work easier and more secure by automating joiner, mover, and leaver processes, so when a new employee is added to our HR system, their account is automatically created in Slack, Zoom, and the applications we use, increasing productivity without wasting time.
The sharing of secure access via user groups allows us to instantly provision access to shared tools for our remote project teams, ensuring they have exactly what they need when they join a call or project. Okta Platform has positively impacted our organization by dramatically improving our security posture, enforcing Multi-factor Authentication across all applications, and increasing productivity by allowing employees to access all their tools with one set of credentials.
View full review »Some of the best features with Okta Workforce Identity are configuring the SSO through Okta to Okta. For me, it was the certification and the integration I worked on because it was my pathway to prepare my certifications, along with the directory and network security, the IP zone and related components.
We use the Single Sign-On feature with the Okta Workforce Identity, and I configure it through the platform, especially for Okta-to-Okta. From one instance, I could switch to another using the SSO, as Okta to Okta allows the SSO feature.
The impact of SSO on my IT overhead and user experience has been significant because it reduced authentication fatigue, password sharing, and password reusing. For administration, it is integrated, and it is great for IT support. For the end user, it is beneficial as they do not have to remember a password or keep the password on a post-it for different applications; they just authenticate once to access several services and service providers.
View full review »I see the benefits of Okta Platform immediately upon deployment, as it saves time. Dealing with multiple authentications without a federated system is time-consuming, requiring different passwords for different applications, which is a hassle. As soon as Okta Platform was implemented, there was an immediate improvement in the ease and speed of secure authentication.
Personally, I have noticed measurable security and operational improvements since implementing Okta Platform, primarily due to the ease of access it provides in a more secure manner while saving time.
View full review »One of the best features of Okta Workforce Identity is its integration with different SaaS applications, which makes it a better product than the competitors.
The multi-factor authentication feature in Okta Workforce Identity is very good. It has its own verification app as well. It is very good in authentication, and we can use hardware keys, software keys, or any authenticator, majorly known authenticator app, for multi-factor authentication.
The provisioning and deprovisioning features of Okta Workforce Identity are very good. We can automate them as well, and we can provision users, groups, applications, and provision tools based on specific groups as well. The product is very good in that as well.
View full review »Okta Platform offers features that allow you to log in to multiple applications, including GitLab, Looker, Workday, and many more with single sign-on.
Out of those applications, single sign-on is the feature I find most valuable because it saves a significant amount of time for the user. If any new user is onboarded into the company, instead of giving them access to all the applications individually, we add them into the Okta Platform group and that is all that is needed. They can access all the company-based applications within approximately one minute.
Okta Platform has positively impacted our organization as it eliminates the manual intervention work of providing access to new users who join the company to multiple applications. Instead of that process, providing access to Okta Platform allows them to access all our applications. The time saved is approximately two to three hours.
View full review »The best features Okta Platform offers are the ease of use and the ease of access.
The ease of use comes from the very user-friendly interface, which allows us to select the application we need to sign on to easily. The ease of access stands out because it can be accessed through one link only.
Okta Platform has positively impacted our organization because our staff can connect to all tools and applications we use from a single location, which has saved us time.
When we have a new joiner who does not know the links for our tools or applications, they spend time asking other users and may engage in lengthy conversations. Because of that, we advise the new joiner to sign in to Okta Platform, and they will find all the applications and tools they need.
View full review »Okta Platform is a cloud-based platform, so you do not have to take care of installations as you would with on-premises solutions for SailPoint or Oracle Identity Management, which is a big difference.
Based on requirements, context-aware policies of Adaptive MFA are configurable, which is a plus point, as you can configure it based on certain requirements, such as adaptive authentication based on behavioral patterns and logging in from one place to another.
It is time-saving, which is definitely linked with money; a lesser number of users are required to do the manual work, so it has that impact on money as well.

Okta Customer Identity is a SaaS-based application, making it easy to configure compared to competitors. It offers around eight thousand five hundred out-of-the-box connectors, providing an edge over other tools. It eliminates the need for configuring connectors using REST APIs as they are readily available. The Entity Manager is integrated with SSO, and Okta Customer Identity offers a wide range of protocols for federated single sign-on and token exchange. Okta Customer Identity also provides excellent documentation and training resources.

It is very easy to log in to all my various corporate accounts through Okta Platform. This helps me because I do not need to have any password. I just simply log into Okta Platform which has a single sign-on capability.
This helps us whenever our employees, our new employees come into the company. On first login, when they come into the company, they have access to all our corporate accounts already once they have their corporate account. They can log into their various productivity and corporate applications. This helps ease the burden from our IT support team to have to onboard someone manually. When someone leaves the company, having an IT team have to remove their access one by one is a very difficult process. Okta Platform Lifecycle Management helps us offboard those employees who have left the company more easily.
View full review »Okta offers single sign-on for those who prefer Microsoft or a single sign-on solution. They have integrated multiple applications with Azure. It still follows the old practice of creating usernames and passwords within the application for some legacy applications. We aim to address this issue by presenting an alternative. Instead of managing multiple username and password combinations. Azure can also integrate with IBM solutions. This creates a unified point of access once they adopt solutions like IBM's within their organisation.

Single sign-on is a valuable feature. We can log in to Microsoft and Google applications. The additional layer of protection and the multi-factor authentication process helps secure our on-prem solutions. The layer before the production will be exposed to the internet. Our IT operations have improved a lot. The operation has become more automated and augmented. We face no challenges in integrating the product with our legacy systems.

The most useful features of Okta for my organization are identity and access management, single sign-on, and the flexibility for hybrid setups.
Okta enables multi-factor authentication, which enhances security, especially for SaaS applications. The integration capabilities of Okta are very flexible, with multiple protocols that can be integrated, especially for single sign-on. The feature I like the most above the product stems from the fact that the tool allows for integrations. One can integrate multiple applications with the product's single sign-on capabilities, meaning with a single username and password, you can access multiple applications. If you have 50 applications, then you need not provide a y different username and password to log individually into each application. With the single sign-on capabilities, you can log in to multiple applications using Okta Workforce Identity. Okta Workforce Identity can be used to deal with configurations and several integrations. One can access multiple applications without having to provide multiple usernames and passwords. You don't need to remember multiple usernames and passwords when you have Okta Workforce Identity. Okta Workforce Identity also provides security to its users by providing MFA features. There are also a lot of workflows available in the product, which can be beneficial for users.
We can integrate two-factor authentication with the applications. Two-factor authentication is used for mobile applications like OneDrive.

As far as our security team is concerned, the ease of implementing multifactor authentication is definitely the biggest value for our organization. Additionally, the single sign-on services provided by Okta allow users to log in to their Okta account and access a variety of other applications. That's why we implemented Connect to leverage this feature more efficiently across MacOS.

We have multiple SSO protocols that we use for our different data centers. This is just one example of how we use Okta workforce identity to address our hybrid workforce needs. Apart from SSO, we also have Active Directory integrations that allow us to integrate with customer active directories and use active directory passwords for application sign-in and runtime authentication. This is called daily header authentication. This allows us to provide a centralized identity management platform for our users, regardless of where they are located or what applications they need to access. We can automate the process of adding users to Okta if they are activated in Active Directory, or if they are added to the database of applications or Active Directory in the last couple of days.

View full review »Okta Platform team told us about a feature called Universal Directory. I have tried using it.
View full review »The product’s most valuable feature is multifactor authentication. It has an easier integration and configuration management process than Microsoft Entra ID. We can integrate it into different platforms.
View full review »One of the most beneficial features of the solution is the user provisioning and the de-provisioning feature. With the solution's universal directory, you can have all the user attribute information in one place. You can store it on Okta instead of in multiple places like your AD, applications, or different IdPs. You can get all the user attribute data onto your Okta, and then you can customize it. Okta allows you to modify the user attributes, which is also one of the useful features of Okta Workforce Identity.
Because it's a password-less authentication for personal sign-on, users don't need to use a password for it. That's how Okta comes into the picture, where it identifies the user based on the certificates for authentication. In that way, it also doesn't reveal the user identity to the applications if there is a man-in-the-middle (MITM) attack.
Okta Workforce Identity uses the System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) protocol for provisioning and de-provisioning. That is also one of the benefits of having your application's functionality on a platform like Okta Workforce Identity. It's easy from an admin point of view because when you de-provision a user on Okta, it will remove all the access from the respective applications without needing anything at the application level.
Because it's a cloud-based platform, installing the agents is the only integration you need to do in your current environment. You can have their agents installed on your Active Directory servers.
The integration is quite easy for other cloud applications. They have their own catalog of all the applications you can search and integrate. Applications like Microsoft Office 365 and Salesforce are already hosted on Okta. It's just a matter of configuring the applications with your company's metadata into your applications.
The product is easy to use. I just have to click on the Okta app on my mobile. The verification takes two seconds. We need to verify once we start the software because we use single sign-on.

The tool provides a single place of contact for managing users. We only need to manage users in Okta Workforce Identity, eliminating the need to duplicate efforts across different systems. For example, if a user needs to be decommissioned, we don't have to go through all the systems and cloud services; we delete the user in one place. I don't need to write the code, I just need to click the "push" button and my mobile phone is asking, "Someone is trying to connect to your account, do you authorize them?" I just click yes, and automatically it recognizes that that login is authenticated.
In terms of the user interface, it's fine. It's very good. I don't see any improvement needed in the user interface.
It's stable.
The solution can scale.

View full review »The provisioning functionality has been the most valuable. This solution has good performance, fast integration and is very responsive.
Its integration components are most valuable. It integrates with everything in some way. There are some products, such as O365 or AD, with which it completely and 100% integrates. So, you can seamlessly create accounts across the board with some of these products. For some of the products with which it doesn't completely integrate, you can do some kind of interfacing.
View full review »We find the solution to be reliable for our customers and it is nice that it is cloud-based and can be accessed from anywhere. It allows for smooth administration. The dashboard is so simple and the solution can be integrated with other vendors, even Cisco. This is why we have chosen to be resellers of the product.

The initial setup is pretty straightforward.
The solution so far has been very stable.
The scalability has been good.
Technical support is helpful.
View full review »The onboarding is the solution's most valuable aspect. It helps us save time in terms of creating a password for each of the SaaS applications versus Okta, where you have this one single pane of glass to see who has what application or who needs which application. It also alerts us to if we should provide that application to this person from that department.
They've improved their user interface, which is much better than previous versions.
The solution is very stable.
The product requires very little maintenance.
The pricing is fair.
The scalability is quite good.
View full review »I think all the functions of the solution are vital and important because life cycle management is important for some companies. The Single Sign-On feature is fantastic for different customers and advanced server access is really good for access to the servers.

There are cost benefits to using this solution.
View full review »The MFA part is the best. MFA provided most of the security that we were looking at with respect to the second level of authentication. Okta Workforce Identity provides a number of options with respect to multifactor authentication, such as the app, phone call, and text. These options provide different ways of logging in for users, and they were a lot more than what we needed. This is certainly a very good feature of Okta Workforce Identity.
View full review »The ease of deployment, ease of use, and speed of delivery is what I like about Okta Workforce Identity.
It is very easy to use. For a lot of software, you need to be trained extensively and have a very technical background. Okta Workforce Identity is quite simple.
You can integrate any software into Okta. They've got a network of 7,000 applications that easily integrate into it.
View full review »The pass-through authentication is very useful. You don't have to set up another ADFS. Instead, you can just authenticate your resources for services from the cloud to AD on-premises through the pass-through authentication. There is no password hash saved on the cloud, which is the part that I like the most.
The functioning of Azure AD Connect for both user and group synchronization is very smooth.

SSO and MFA for improved end-user experience, and protection against password spray attacks, account password self-service. Extend Identity Authentication and authorization management operations. Extend the existing IAM identity and account operations to divisional administrative and help desk personnel. This improves the consistency of the identity management processes across the organization. Obfuscating the AD account infrastructure from the application infrastructure to reduce risk and vulnerabilities associated with tying externally facing applications to corporate accounts.

View full review »Okta's great for their federation capabilities where it lets the IT team enable business with anyone using common federation features across SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, and internal applications. The Multi-Factor Authentication capability lets you address one of the biggest challenges around security - MFA to make it hard for adversaries to get into your systems.

We can have all our applications in one central base where you can log into it and access it without having to enter your password for each application. This is because it saves your credentials and updates them accordingly.

Other than Okta being an easy and awesome integration tool, one of the best features it has is the provisioning and deprovisioning, which makes management way easier. You don't need to be too technical to understand how it works.
They also have a good knowledge base that helps end-user to self-serve.
View full review »The feature that is most valuable to me is the automated user provisioning that we set up using Okta as a major part of that process. We put the process in to save time and increase accuracy in the user-provisioning process. Most everything is driven from our HR system thereby limiting manual input and duplication of work when provisioning accounts. Accounts are disabled as soon as the account is terminated in the HR system.
