Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"My primary use case is for preparing presentations to teach, often on PowerPoint.""The functionality that is most valuable is the solution's ability to detect patient data in email attachments. Whenever a user sends out an email with patient data embedded in an attachment, it triggers an alert. The tool can detect a social security number and various other forms of patient identity. Emails are then automatically generated and sent.""The integration with other applications is pretty good.""Cloud-based management is valuable and software deployment is positive.""It is stable.""The way the ERP presents information for the user is very good.""It has more features than somebody would expect, and it is worth taking a deeper look into the features available.""We use it for documentation management, to collaborate with Microsoft Teams, web calls, web conference calls, chats, and as a documentation repository mainly. We have an Office pack suite to be able to write documentation, make spreadsheets, and create PowerPoints."

"The product's initial setup phase was straightforward.""The most valuable feature of Yammer is its interface.""Yammer shows the post’s actions, comments, and how people react. We can quickly see what's going on.""Groups is the most valuable feature in Yammer.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the communication events.""The posting features are valuable.""We can send out notifications and ask questions using Yammer.""The initial setup was simple and straightforward."

Cons
"Constantly evolving with new features, which can be challenging for users.""Security is still complex, but the admin console improving.""I'm not sure if there are areas of improvement. For us, it's working quite well.""Office 365 could be easier to use at first. Tutorials are needed to know how to use the solution.""Office 365 could allow for smoother collaboration with other companies, which is the main reason we use it. The B2B connection is something we need, like global adverse lists between two tenants or multiple users. That's what we're missing at the moment.""The online applications have limited functionality compared to the local applications.""The integration with mobile services is not so good. It's coming, but they could improve a lot.""Microsoft Defender for Office 365 could use some customization, but this area for improvement is trivial."

"I faced some issues with Yammer's mobile app when I shifted from Android to iPhone, and it got a little bit tricky to use it on an iPhone, which took away some of my time.""It looks slightly less clean on Chrome compared to Microsoft Edge, but it's a minor difference. There is room for improvement in user experience, like positions of elements.""We tried to integrate into SharePoint, but it was not really efficient.""The solution must be able to stream by itself, without integration, the same way that you are able to do it on Facebook Live, Instagram, etc. Streaming must be embedded into it.""Yammer should be able to integrate with Microsoft products, such as Outlook.""I would like to see a fancier user interface. That is one of the weak points of Yammer.""Microsoft should work on templating and provide some built-in templates so that the changes can automatically roll out to all the configured communities.""The interface is clunky and could be improved."

There are several discussions on SharePoint’s social strategy going on at the moment. I had some great discussions with my MVP mate Adis during Summit last week. Since #SPC12 almost every SharePoint addicted developer, it-pro, power user has reviewed Yammer. If you don’t know what Yammer is, here a short introduction. Yammer is an enterprise social network, which allows you and your coworkers to communicate in a modern way as on Facebook. The huge difference between Facebook and Yammer is, Yammer is private. That means only people from your organization or the people you’ve invited to join your network can see and take part of the conversation which is going on in your Yammer network. With the common understanding of Yammer, you should be able to follow up the ongoing discussions. Adis wrote a great post, summarizing his thoughts on SharePoint and Yammer integration and the upcoming social future. I totally agree with Adis, there are a lot of things missing at the moment. But here my thoughts on Yammer vs. SPSocial Leak of integration In my eyes there is still too much missing, of course you can integrate yammer into your SharePoint, but key features are missing such as SSO, seamless look ‘n feel integration. Prebuild views on Yammer depending on the current SharePoint context or the mobile story. Microsoft shipped mobile Apps for SharePoint 2013 OnDemand and OnPrem. AFAIK are these apps currently available in preview, but each of them is based on SPSocial. SharePoint… Read more →
