A versatile solution that comes with valuable security features like geofencing and traffic shaping
Pros and Cons
  • "You can geofence yourself if there is an incoming attack or a continuous ping from a company outside your country."
  • "Hence, it needs to be easier to configure rules using the solution."

What is our primary use case?

My clients use the solution for protection.

What is most valuable?

Geofencing is an important feature today because you can block IPs from some countries. You can geofence yourself if there is an incoming attack or a continuous ping from a company outside your country. Majorly, where we have local small companies, we block all the IP addresses outside India. That is one of the very good features Cyberoam has. The zero day attack feature is also very good. The third feature is traffic shaping, where personal Internet that goes to computers from the servers and the data that moves into your branches is shaped, and bandwidth is allocated. These are a few really good features.

What needs improvement?

How best the rules can be configured and written is an area that benefits businesses. Hence, it needs to be easier to configure rules using the solution. Today when I configure a policy definition, it should be made simpler on a "tick basis," where this is what you enable, and this is what you do.

If you have a software-based firewall also, which you can use in conjunction with a hardware firewall, it becomes an even more secure gateway. If I have a server in place, when logging through a VPN, I have to unnecessarily enter my server gateway and go into the server deployed on the cloud. This feature would be much more useful if you have something that works as a soft form for mobility. It would be direct web to web but with all the security in place. There's a product called Zscaler, which is only a software-based firewall.

For how long have I used the solution?

I am a consultant and Sophos partner, and I have worked with Cyberoam UTM for about seven years, starting from its previous iteration.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate Cyberoam UTM's stability a nine out of ten. It's extremely stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Sophos Cyberoam UTM's scalability is excellent. I rate it an eight out of ten. The scalability, addability, and all the features are good. The number of endpoints depends on the client, and we have certain clients with more than 700 endpoints. We focus on small and medium enterprise clients.

When we have a higher number of endpoints, we then do a study of the rate of data transfer, the kind of bandwidth available, and whether a single firewall will be suitable or not because that should not become a bottleneck when you are interacting with or your information is flowing into the Internet. Sizing up the product is very important.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is very fast. Normally we don't require support for our work, but there are times when support is required. The quality of support is also very high. They have people who make you feel at ease and figure out exactly how you're doing things so that you are not dependent on them next time. They make you understand why something is not working.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used Fortinet's other solutions, but Cyberoam's customer support is better.

How was the initial setup?

I rate the initial setup a seven out of ten. We have previous experience using it, so we knew exactly what we wanted to do and what features would be useful, so we set up the solution in one week. When someone doesn't have this knowledge, the initial setup would be harder for them. In that case, they have to use the service of an expert.

If we have a proper discussion with the client and the network mapping is perfectly done, we can deploy the solution in one to two days. It will take longer if that kind of information or a basic study is unavailable. You will need to set up the DMZ or work with the client to make it more secure in terms of the firewall and user rights. As a part of our offering, we first do a detailed study so that we can set it up in a day or two.

Any time you're setting it up, you will need downtime, and not all the clients today use high-availability parts or have a redundant firewall in place, so you don't know how the setup will go.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate Cyberoam's pricing a five or six out of ten since it is affordable. Clients do not have to pay for anything. Additionally, the price is fixed.

What other advice do I have?

Today in India, many small companies are coming up very fast. They are what we call the BDM and small enterprises. There, the penetration or awareness of firewalls for protecting data is very low. We have been successful in advising, both in terms of cyber risk in terms of acquiring hardware and secondly in terms of training, why it should happen. The first part is the customer sensitization, "Why should you go for a firewall?" And "What kind of firewall then?" An enterprise-level firewall is not required for a small business person because he would not have commercial transactions. "Do you sell products on your website?" or "Do you use cloud for SaaS?"

Affordability is not the main question today. The bigger question is how you can convince or sensitize the customer on how necessary security is in today's world. Today if you have one transaction lost or get hacked, you would lose a huge amount of money, and the risk involved is ever-growing.

I can confidently recommend Sophos Cyberoam UTM and rate the solution an eight out of ten.

A stable and valuable solution that is easy to deploy and reasonably priced
Pros and Cons
  • "SD-WAN and IPSec features are valuable to me."
  • "The documentation is not straightforward."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for VPN, network monitoring, and DHCP for offices with fewer people.

What is most valuable?

The product is okay. SD-WAN and IPSec features are valuable to me. I find them to be useful.

What needs improvement?

The product must make the documentation a bit more available. The documentation is not straightforward. We have to click a lot to navigate and set up the policies. The solution should incorporate one field that cascades down the policies that are needed.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Cyberoam for the last 11 years. However, I have been using Sophos for the last two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is stable and good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool's scalability depends on the model, the version, and the hardware we select. The product is used in our organization in almost ten locations.

How are customer service and support?

We take care of customer support ourselves. If there’s an issue that we cannot solve, we raise a ticket to Sophos. The support provided by Sophos is good. However, the documentation is terrible. If we cannot solve things ourselves, we must rely on documentation.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. If we have Cyberoam, we can just migrate it.

What about the implementation team?

If we already have a backup, we can restore it. If it's a fresh installation, where we have to set up even the basic policies, it may take 30 minutes.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product is reasonably priced. Its cost is better than all the other tools available in the market. The renewal cost of XG 125 is $600 to $700 annually.

What other advice do I have?

I am using versions XG 210, XG 125, and XGS 120 of the product. I will recommend XG 125 to small companies. I would recommend the bigger series from XG 210 onwards for bigger companies. Overall, I rate the product an eight out of ten.

A cost-efficient firewall solution that prevents unwanted traffic on the office premises
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of Sophos Cyberoam UTM is the SD-WAN gateway."
  • "Sophos Cyberoam UTM could have a more advanced reporting function."

What is our primary use case?

Sophos Cyberoam UTM works as a firewall to prevent unwanted traffic on the office premises.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Sophos Cyberoam UTM is the SD-WAN gateway.

What needs improvement?

Sophos Cyberoam UTM could have a more advanced reporting function.

Sophos Cyberoam UTM should include email security.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Sophos Cyberoam UTM for seven to eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Sophos Cyberoam UTM is a stable solution. I rate Sophos Cyberoam UTM ten out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Sophos Cyberoam UTM is scalable enough. Approximately 200 users are using Sophos Cyberoam UTM in our organization. I rate Sophos Cyberoam UTM an eight out of ten for scalability.

How are customer service and support?

Sophos Cyberoam UTM's technical support team responds immediately, but sometimes they take longer to respond.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

Sophos Cyberoam UTM's initial setup is easy. I rate the solution's initial setup a ten out of ten. The solution's deployment was like plug-and-play.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Sophos Cyberoam UTM pricing is at the mid-segment level. Sophos Cyberoam UTM is a cost-efficient solution compared to other solutions. I rate the solution a two out of ten for pricing.

What other advice do I have?

We're working with the 18.5 version of Sophos Cyberoam UTM, and the model number is XG 135.

When you buy any hardware, you need to buy licenses for the user base to create unlimited users. However, with Sophos Cyberoam UTM, you can create an unlimited number of users since it has no limitations. While other OEMs charge for SSL VPN clients, Sophos Cyberoam does not charge for SSL VPN.

Sophos Cyberoam UTM is a good product, but we may face a bug issue when they implement new firmware.

Overall, I rate Sophos Cyberoam UTM an eight out of ten.

Easy to use, simple to set up and reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "The reporting features are very good."
  • "The solution could be cheaper."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for unified threat management. We basically use it for firewall and network management.

What is most valuable?

The solution is easy to use. It's simple to set up and configure.

It puts you in control of your infrastructure.

The reporting features are very good. It offers very good visibility.

The solution provides very helpful alerts.

It offers decent pricing.

The solution is stable.

The product can scale to a certain extent. We haven't hit our limit.

What needs improvement?

We do not have any specific features in mind for improvement, however, we'd always like more features.

The solution could be cheaper.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for five years or so. I've used it for a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We've always had very good stability. We've never had a problem with the stability. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have not explored the scalability. It is tied to the hardware. The unit we have would support zero to 500 people. After that, you would need to get a new appliance However, we've never exceeded that appliance limit. If we ever exceed the appliance, we'd look to see what other options are available in the market. Most products in the market are quite comparable to Sophos.

How are customer service and support?

We have used online Sophos support. However, we haven't used it too much. We haven't had many issues with the solution.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very simple and straightforward. It is not overly complex. The configuration process is very easy.

We do get setup support and training, which makes the process very simple.

Our appliance is on-premises. However, there is a cloud-based console that connects to the physical device.

The product has its own deployment support that comes with it. If you are a new client, technical support will assist with the setup.

The setup itself is pretty fast. It doesn't take more than one hour. Of course, there is a few tweaks that may take a week or two to set up. Some companies may need additional services configured.

What about the implementation team?

We have local support in Kenya and can get help if we need assistance.

What was our ROI?

We do not specifically look at the ROI.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We do an annual subscription.

The pricing is comparable to others. There is an initial cost for changing a solution, so it is chapter to just renew the subscription rather than jumping to a new solution.

For the most part, the cost is okay. They are a bit on the higher side, and we'd always like it to be a bit lower.

What other advice do I have?

We are using the latest version of the solution, although the hardware might be a bit older.

This is a pretty nice product, and I would recommend it. It doesn't require a lot of effort when it comes to setup and management.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support services generally meet expectations, but we occasionally encounter delays in response times.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup process was straightforward.

Good support, stability and efficient for security use cases
Pros and Cons
  • "The dashboard is very good-looking and offers maximum features. If a customer's website has a problem, we can guide them over the phone because they can easily find the specific option on the dashboard. That's why we suggest buying Sophos."
  • "The price is obviously a more sensitive area to focus on."

What is our primary use case?

When we use Sophos products, we haven't encountered any problems. Some attacks happen, but our customers haven't been affected. No one has attempted to hack their data and steal Bitcoin.

What is most valuable?

The dashboard is very good-looking and offers maximum features. If a customer's website has a problem, we can guide them over the phone because they can easily find the specific option on the dashboard. That's why we suggest buying Sophos.

One key feature is the personal security dashboard. Most features are available on the dashboard, making it easy for customers to manage their security. However, it's a complex task, so we can't add too many features currently. So, the dashboard is currently the main focus.

What needs improvement?

The price is obviously a more sensitive area to focus on when selling it.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it since 2011.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability a ten out of ten. It is a scalable solution. We have lots of customers using this solution.

We have 6,000 to 7,000 customers across India. And we are using and providing Cisco, Netgear, McAfee, and other products to them.

We often use NETGEAR for layer two configurations because NETGEAR  doesn't have firewall software like Sophos, and we use Sophos for layer three configurations.

How are customer service and support?

The response time is very good. The customer service and support are good.

How was the initial setup?

The setup is good. The deployment time depends. We need to create some policies first. So, it could take half an hour, depending on the complexity. We can then deliver the product to our customers.

What about the implementation team?

We know all the deployment steps and can guide your client over the phone. The customer can then install it themselves, and if they have a dedicated technical team, they can handle it independently.

For example, we need to know what kind of internet connection they are using, such as Broadband, IOL, or something else.

We need to know why they are using a firewall because we have to create policies and define the bandwidth, how much bandwidth they want to use, and what they are trying to protect. So, we need such details for the deployment.

We have 25 employees with different designated roles. And they can provide online support. Mostly engineers. We have different versions of the product.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Overall, the price of Sophos is very good. But I would rate the pricing a nine out of ten, where one is the cheapest and ten is the highest.

There are different licensing models. For example, one customer pays yearly, while another pays every three years.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate the solution a ten out of ten. I would recommend using the solution. The deployment is easy, and support is very good.

A stable and user-friendly UTM solution that is suitable for SMB companies
Pros and Cons
  • "The product is a simple and user-friendly UTM that can handle accounting, reporting, firewall, IPS, and antivirus for industries."
  • "The solution should improve its scalability because it cannot support enterprise networks."

What is our primary use case?

The use cases for the solution are different. It is used by petrochemical companies, government companies, universities, private companies, hospitals, and hotels.

What is most valuable?

Sophos Cyberoam UTM is a very good solution for SMB companies and can handle their many requirements. The product is a simple and user-friendly UTM that can handle accounting, reporting, firewall, IPS, and antivirus for industries. It is a good solution for accounting and managing users.

What needs improvement?

The solution should improve its scalability because it cannot support enterprise networks.

Cyberoam was discontinued five years ago, and they have no new features. Sophos continues their products under the XG brand name. I would like to see Sophos XG features included in Cyberoam.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Sophos Cyberoam UTM for ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Sophos Cyberoam UTM is a very very stable solution.

I rate Sophos Cyberoam UTM ten out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Our clients are small and medium businesses.

I rate the scalability a five out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The solution’s technical support is very very good. They have online chats and remote support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very very simple. I rate the ease of setup a ten out of ten.

What about the implementation team?

The solution’s deployment takes one to two days.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product has a very low price compared to other solutions.

I rate the solution’s pricing a two out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

I have installed Sophos UTM for more than 100 companies in many countries. The XG model has good features and it continues with Cyberoam features. We can find new features in Sophos XG for Cyberoam.

The solution is not good for current times. We cannot find Cyberoam products in the market. It is discontinued. People should buy Sophos XGS.

Overall, I rate the product an eight out of ten.

Security shield that requires little maintenance after setup is completed
Pros and Cons
  • "We are using it as a security shield. It does not allow access before that in case we have restricted a few things from users, so it helps me in that."
  • "I don't know whether this will be included in an upgrade, but I would like to get the user utility, like seeing where the users are using more of the data."

What is our primary use case?

We are connected through Cyberoam so you have to pass through Cyberoam to connect to our network.

The solution is on-prem. It's basically on the network.

What is most valuable?

We are using it as a security shield. It does not allow access before that in case we have restricted a few things from users, so it helps me in that.

What needs improvement?

I don't know whether this will be included in an upgrade, but I would like to get the user utility, like seeing where the users are using more of the data.

Sometimes there are heavy downloads, which I'm not able to track. If I can get that information, that would be more useful from the IT point of view.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this product for almost two and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. In two and a half years, we haven't faced any problems.

For maintenance, we have the support company person who visits around twice a month.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have not explored the scalability very much, so I will give it a 7 out of 10 as far as connectivity or support. As an IT manager, I don't get the complete report of what users are doing, so it would be great to have that also. That would be much better from an organization point of view in case my users are doing something wrong.

Usually, I have 25 licenses, so we have increased that number by 10 this year and now we have 35 licenses.

How was the initial setup?

Initial setup was straightforward. Implementation was not very difficult because we were renovating our office structure.

What about the implementation team?

At the initial stage, we decided that once we were putting the new structure in, we would go through Cyberoam, so we connected through a dealer. They came and did the complete setup. It was quite smooth. It took around two to three days to do the complete setup and it was up and running. There was not much of a hassle there because they managed it.

None of my employees were in that area where the setup was done. The team was all alone to complete the setup. Once the setup was done, we just connected to the network and everything was up and running. It was faster. It took around four to seven days to do the complete setup and set up the users.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We just use the standard package.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I was using a different product, and we were facing a lot of problems. The users were not able to open some sites. They were having issues. The sites were getting blocked and all, but with the Cyberoam, there is security without much hassle.

We had a dry run and our vendors suggested that we buy Cyberoam. They gave us a test demo, we were satisfied with the product, and we purchased it afterwards.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution 8 out of 10.

My advice is that it's a good product if you're looking for security without much hassle. For other products, the maintenance is too high and you need a resource to manage that. With Cyberoam, you hardly need to manage it once the setup is done correctly.
