Oracle Hyperion Primary Use Case
My experience of working with Oracle Hyperion is that it is basically a cloud technology used mainly for budgeting and planning purposes. In Oracle Hyperion, there are different use cases for financial planning, workforce planning, and CAPEX planning, among others. Presently, I am working in financial planning and analysis for my client, JSW Steel Limited, which produces steel. For their yearly budgeting, we create marketing data, and based on that, we conduct budgeting planning activities in production planning control. After finalizing production quantities, we calculate costs for each cost center and segment, leading to the creation of final reports for EBITDA, PAT, and various expenses in financial planning activities, for which we create different user stories from the client.
I have experience with Oracle Hyperion as my client began with Hyperion technology, and I have been working with it for the past five years at JSW Steel Limited. My client is transitioning from Oracle Hyperion to Anaplan, so I started learning Anaplan technology, completing level 1, level 2, and level 3 certifications, and currently, I am working with Anaplan.

I use Oracle Hyperion for summarizing data from our ERP system to gain insights into company performance, such as revenue and profit for a given quarter, product, or region. It helps in financial budgeting, forecasting, and figuring out key performance indicators. Additionally, it is useful for implementing business rules like allocations within enterprises.

I use the solution in my company for financial planning.
We use Oracle Hyperion for ad hoc querying and connection with multidimensional databases. It is very easy to use for combining dimensions of the database such as time, geography, and product dimensions. If the database is built as a multidimensional database, then Oracle Hyperion can handle all these dimensions and perform filtering and drilling as a deep-down tool in each dimension.

My company is called ProfitFromERP. We help people select and implement ERP solutions. I don't personally use Hyperion day to day, but have clients who've selected and grown with the program. Hyperion historically has been a high-end tool for financial planning and analysis groups who want to create things like forecasting models and work with real-time data and events in-progress to update rolling forecasts.
Hyperion is useful for advanced financials, reconciliations, and other things that traditional accounting and reporting solutions don't do. Some people use it for their SEC reporting and things like that. Others are trying to compile data from multiple sources - various databases and transactional systems.
For example, we've got hockey teams that cross-reference ticket data and information from third-party concession stands to get a complete picture of what's happening in their entire stadium. It provides them with real-time information from point of sale systems, Ticketmaster, and gate scanning systems, all so they can optimize staffing in every section and maximize revenues by having the right staff in the right place.

I work for an investment banking client. They use the solution to compute wealth-added numbers in Essbase. I get the data from different sources like Informatica, Upstream, and EDM. EDM is a kind of metadata management, and I get static data from EDM. In terms of data, I get the market values and transactions. I get the market data from EDM regarding tax information, unlevered beta, and all such parameter information.
From there, Oracle Hyperion will consume this data, run some calculations, and compute the wealth-added number, which has a certain formula. It all happens under lower granularity. Once the data has been loaded and calculated, it will be aggregated to the top level. Once the aggregation happens, users access the data using the Smart View Excel add-in.
They connect to the Essbase application using the Smart View Excel add-in and retrieve the data. Oracle Hyperion has the capability to hold data from the last ten years for historical analysis and retrieval purposes. The solution has a simple use case which is not very complex.
We use the solution for partition planning, HCM, and financial reporting.

We use HFM as a consolidation tool because we own several different companies, and we consolidate up to the eliminations and allocations through Oracle Hyperion. Additionally, we use it to help us with foreign currency, and then we use planning for forecasting and capital five-year plan projections.
We are upgrading Oracle Hyperion to 11.2.5.

We use Hyperion for the consolidation process in our accounting department. Other departments work without our reports and analyze the information from Hyperion.

View full review »This solution has evolved in the last few years. We were using Hyperion, so there was data coming in from other systems into Hyperion. When we were using the on-premises system, we were just moving data from one ERP, e.g. Oracle ERP. When we moved Oracle Hyperion to the Cloud, we brought data from more than one system, e.g. we also brought data from SAP.
We use Oracle Hyperion for consolidation and everything's done on it, but in the past, we did our consolidation in Oracle ERP.

Hyperion is a planning and budgeting solution for large enterprises.
On-premise, we have anywhere from 10 to 50 users. Clients are moving to the cloud versions of the software. Although we do on-premise, we also do the new cloud versions, which is called EPBCS, or Enterprise Planning and Budget Cloud Service. The market is moving away from the on-premise version.

Centralization of the budgeting process. Our company was using Excel spreadsheets to capture all the managers' spreadsheets. They kept being changed by the managers and were never actually frozen in time. Very hard for top management to freeze the budgets.
