We can use it for more than just servers. It supports network storage as well.

What is most valuable?

It's a product with which you can automate, manage, and monitor your devices.

How has it helped my organization?

It improves our productivity, because we can use OneView for more than just servers. We can use it for storage on some of the networks as well. So it's quite good.

What needs improvement?

With every new version, new devices are supported in OneView, but we are still missing support for some HPE products. I hope they will be supported soon.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's quite stable. There’s been no down time.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's easy to scale, but we are not a huge company. We're not GE.

How are customer service and support?

We haven't been using technical support. We have not had any issues.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Insight Manager, which was the product before OneView's conception. Therefore, we heard about OneView, and started using it instead.

How was the initial setup?

Initial setup was quite straightforward.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We were not really looking at other vendors, because OneView is for HPE products. You couldn't use another product. We want OneView because we want to automate things and to manage our systems easier.

What other advice do I have?

It should be easy to use and easy to manage things. You don't need a couple of different products to manage. Now you can use OneView for everything.

It is easier to manage. During a code update, there should be more stability in the code.

What is most valuable?

Its simplicity is the most valuable feature.

How has it helped my organization?

It is easier to manage and has one central location.

What needs improvement?

For a code upgrade, there should be more stability in the code.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

To be honest, we've been having some issues with the stability of the product. We're working with the support to get it more stabilized. We did a code upgrade and the whole thing just fell. Our guys back home are still working on fixing it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We're still in the beginning phases of using it, so I don't know how it's going to scale out or not.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support team is okay. They didn't fix the problem at the first time they connected with us, so we're not too impressed, at the moment with them.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

This tool was recommended to us by our partners. We then had it included with the service that we bought and implemented it.

Reliability is the most important criteria while selecting a vendor.

What other advice do I have?

Try a PLC first.

Efficient management and upgrades streamline complex setups
Pros and Cons
  • "The ease of management with HPE OneView is excellent."
  • "My main complaint is about the blades on the frames, which seem to have a lot of problems. We often have to call HPE for replacements, such as for memory."

What is our primary use case?

We use HPE OneView to manage our Synergy frames. We have multiple OneView environments, and we manage a lot of Synergy 12,000 series frames with Synergy 480 Gen10 blades on those frames. We primarily use the blades for VMware ESXi hosts.

What is most valuable?

The ease of management with HPE OneView is excellent. I can see what's going on when I log in and view all the frames and blades in one plane of glass. This allows for easy configuration and upgrades. We upgrade OneView first, then the entire hardware, ensuring compatibility before doing ESXi upgrades. This approach makes the upgrade process straightforward and efficient.

What needs improvement?

My main complaint is about the blades on the frames, which seem to have a lot of problems. We often have to call HPE for replacements, such as for memory. Constant issues arise, leading to frequent replacement of blade parts. Additionally, the upgrade process is lengthy, requiring careful planning as we cannot match ESXi versions without aligning OneView first, leading to delays.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for at least five years in my career.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

For the deployment, we work with HPE. It's usually smooth sailing with HPE engineers, especially when upgrading OneView. We haven't experienced any outages during upgrades.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the blades is concerning; we have frequent issues with blades having memory or power issues. Complaints are mainly about the blades rather than OneView itself.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability is fine as we can add Synergy frames and extend many frames as needed. We have multiple frame setups and multiple OneView setups.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support have been responsive. I haven't had any problems with them.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We haven't used anything similar in interfaces. Although we use Dell hardware, we do not use Dell software on blades or frames. Prior to OneView, there were other HPE interfaces for blade systems.

What about the implementation team?

HPE engineers work with us during upgrades to provide the necessary upgrade bundles. This cooperation ensures a smooth upgrade process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I am not the right person to discuss pricing as it is a management decision. However, I have not heard any complaints regarding pricing. Our main concern is managing expenses related to the VMware licensing model which affects blade usage.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I only evaluate hardware layer and system functionality, currently running a Nutanix proof of concept after previously working on Dell VXRail.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten. While the OneView job performance is satisfactory, the upgrade process requires lengthy planning. The frequent issues with blades also need attention.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
