Pros
"The interface is very fluid.""Microsoft BI is better than most solutions we have. It's pretty easy to conduct analysis with it.""The product is user-friendly.""It gives us, the ability to do a lot of analysis quickly, similar to ad hoc analysis.""It is more user-friendly compared to SSRS.""The solution is very intuitive, you do not need to have too much programming knowledge to use it. Advanced Excel users can use it very easily.""ou can pull reports, visualize them in real-time, and connect them to a variety of other data sources.""The solution integrates with other Microsoft solutions very well."

"The product is very mature. It's quite robust and an excellent enterprise-level solution.""It has the potential to become a great evangelist for AI and other embedded analytics.""The convenience of it. Having it on the mobile, so someone has it right there in their pocket most of the time.""The platform can be easily monitored. You have quite a good overview of tasks which are being run.""The usability for users to be able to drag and drop, then create their own reports.""We prefer having our analytics capabilities in a single platform, which MicroStrategy's offers.""Stability is great, especially with package deployments. It is very consistent and stable.""MicroStrategy's best feature is that it is a user-friendly tool."

More MicroStrategy Pros →

"The most valuable feature is the visualization.""I like that Oracle OBIEE comes with more options. For example, more options with data security, user security, and other security. It's more complicated than Microsoft, but it gives you more options. They also added the part for machine learning, which is good.""I think the most valuable features are the ability to drill down, the graphs, and the scheduling for the reports to be received in Excel on a daily basis. Users like Excel, so it's good for them that they receive the reports by email, that they don't have to specify the schedule.""It's easy to use for business analysts.""The most valuable feature of Oracle OBIEE is interactive reporting because it allows better analysis versus conventional reporting, especially on the data warehouse side.""Oracle OBIEE is good for data visualization and analytical reporting.""I like the architecture of this solution. RPV is a powerful feature in Oracle OBIEE. It lets us design as per the needs of the organization. I can have multiple presentation folders and presentation layers. I can have customization in a single node in VMware, which is a very good feature of Oracle OBIEE. It helps customers in designing as per their requirements.""The primary reason for using OBIEE is connectivity with Oracle E-Business Suite. It makes it easy to connect with our Oracle E-Business Suite. There are the standard dashboards available, which we sometimes use, and now we are looking for customized dashboards."

Cons
"The solution is somewhat costly in comparison with MSBI tools.""The visualization aspect, while being the most visible to business users, also happens the be the weakest point in the entire Microsoft BI stack.""One of the more difficult things to do is to export some of the data from Power BI to Excel.""The admin view could be improved by making it more simplified to manage a users' activity and other things.""Microsoft needs to do some more research and development to make it more stable.""Microsoft BI's visualization could be better. Though Power BI's visualization has steadily improved over the years, it's not on the level tools like Tableau and SAS or some of the more expensive products on the market.""The graphic interface could be better.""Microsoft BI’s integration and visualization could be improved."

More Microsoft Power BI Cons →

"Enterprise Manager should be a little bit less quirky when you build out-of-the-box customization reports for it.""One of the things that I want to see MicroStrategy do is become more cloud native. Right now, the deployment on cloud is very easy to ruin, it is very much like spinning up separate VMs.""In the developer, there are things that you able to do in a document or a report that you are not able to do in the Dossier.""I would like to see a feature where migrations are easier. When you migrate from certain environments, it could probably be a little cleaner. Sometimes it seems to be somewhat clunky when you migrate from one environment, say a development to a test or production environment.""The solution's licensing could be improved because its cost is heavy on the pockets.""The product is designed for enterprise. A lightweight version would be easier for a smaller workgroup.""It is performing well, but sometimes we have complex requirements and the performance decreases, and then we have to find another way to make it perform again. That is what you encounter when use the project, but that's inevitable because if we would have used another product, we would've had the same thing.""If they can make it more stable, in terms of the connectivity, that would help."

More MicroStrategy Cons →

"They should make the dashboard more intuitive.""n the beginning it had it's stability issues, but it became stable.""The platform's data visualization features need improvement.""The performance could improve and in a future release, they could provide more virtualization options.""The pricing model could be improved. Right now, it's quite confusing. Many customers have this feeling that it's a super-expensive option.""Setup and migration are very complex. Technically, Oracle accessory is extremely complex. These days, the industry demands a kind of Excel analysis, which is very easy to install, set up, and it's very developer-friendly as well as end-user friendly. OBIEE lacks all those features.""An area for improvement is that Oracle pushes more users to Oracle BI Publisher rather than emphasizing Oracle OBIEE for reporting. The pricing for Oracle OBIEE could be improved.""We needed some technical expertise during setup."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "There is room for at least 45% discount as compared to the initial price."
  • "MS BI comes with all the tools and it is, to the best of my knowledge, the most affordable solution."
  • "All in all, for the price, this is an excellent tool for helping your organization turn mounds of data into useful insights."
  • "I would advise that Microsoft BI products are rightly priced and the licensing is easy to follow and to fulfill."
  • "Remove the cost of a licence to show a dashboard within SharePoint. Why should readers of a dashboard have to pay to view? "
  • "Make it low in cost. It is a no-brainer!"
  • "Globally, we evaluated a number of products, including Salesforce's product, Microsoft won on the ground of simple functionally and cost."
  • "Paid for itself in the first month."

  • "They made a change in the licensing module some time ago and we can now use all the enterprise tools for free."
  • "The pricing for MicroStrategy is always on the higher side. They should seriously start thinking about their pricing and licensing strategy."
  • "While initial cost of MicroStrategy is still on the higher side, the long-term benefits brings down overall cost of ownership significantly as compared to other tools like Tableau/Cognos."
  • "The price was good. We have had great support along the way."
  • "We actually researched some of the other solutions. For options, price, and customer acceptance, this product has worked well for us."
  • "They gave us a good deal."
  • "There have been actual direct bottomline impacts in terms of extra revenue created from the reporting solutions."
  • "They need to work on their license structure. They are not competitive against somebody like SAP BusinessObjects. We had a quote that was almost a third the price, coming from SAP BusinessObjects, and it's not a better platform. It's not cheaper. They do concurrent user licensing, while MicroStrategy does named user licensing, and that was literally the only difference. But it made a $500,000 difference. They've got to do something to make themselves more competitive. Maybe it's assessing your business users and what you really expect them to use, and maybe giving a reduced price on that. But they are already giving us a 60% discount and they were still a million or so above, over a three-year time period. That doesn't account for synergies as we get from on-site resources that are already available, but I thought that that was a big, big deficit for them."

  • "It is high."
  • "It's expensive."
  • "I think to spread this across an enterprise will be a significant investment."
  • "Be prepared to spend a lot of time and money."
  • "The pricing we negotiated with Oracle. But, I do not have details."
  • "Oracle products are extremely expensive."
  • "This was not an expensive product for us, although the price varies depending on conditions for each company."
  • "The cost of this solution is a little bit high compared with other products like Zoho, so reducing it would make OBIEE more competitive."

    Reviews from Real Users

Sandeep V., Process System Engineer at a comms service provider, tells us, “This solution is very easy for people who are building ad-hoc things. It's an enterprise solution so it can be deployed for a lot of users. There are some great new features that come with the 12c like data visualization, desktop BI Publisher, automation, and interactive dashboards. The product has good features. “

A user who is a CEO at a consultancy relates, “The most valuable feature is the visualization. The data warehousing, data storage, and data wrangling are all features that are in there, and it's one of the better products out there. A good thing is that for large datasets, it's very stable, especially when you have an Oracle database.”

A user who is a Principal Business Intelligence Architect at a computer software company suggests, "It is very biased towards Oracle infrastructure. One of the major red flags we have at the moment against Oracle is that it doesn't support deployment on other cloud providers. We're quite heavily vested in AWS as our infrastructure, and Oracle is yet to formally support deploying on those virtual infrastructure instances. That's quite disappointing, and it also cuts them out of over 70% of the market."
