Great for personal or professional setups and offers automatic patch updates
Pros and Cons
  • "Technical support is great in South Africa."
  • "Microsoft must realize that it's operating in Africa. We cannot pay US dollars. For the cost of Microsoft Windows 10, it's just not affordable for the majority of the population in South Africa. Who's going to spend that amount of money when people are barely affording to live? It's costly."

What is most valuable?

We like that the patches are automatic. It takes away a lot of the administrative burden, from a security point of view, on the environment. You do not really need to worry about patch management on a Windows 10 machine, as it automatically does it. Those are the benefits that we see from a management point of view.

For personal or professional setups, the solution works well.

The solution is stable.

We find the solution to be quite scalable.

It does what it's meant to do. You don't want the platform to do anything more than what it's doing at the moment. It gives you the analytics. It gives you the right security posture. You can draw on it. It can integrate with other solutions.

What we like about the stack of products is if you manage it on a management console, it cuts across the enterprise. That's a benefit in terms of your rollout strategy. It's quicker to deploy, easier to deploy, and it definitely affects the user to a large degree. It doesn't consume too many resources on your endpoint.

Technical support is great in South Africa.

What needs improvement?

The whole point of Microsoft is it's a phenomenal stack of products. However, Microsoft must realize that it's operating in Africa. We cannot pay US dollars. For the cost of Microsoft Windows 10, it's just not affordable for the majority of the population in South Africa. Who's going to spend that amount of money when people are barely affording to live? It's costly.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for the last 18 months. It's been over a year so far.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the solution is very good. there are no bugs or glitches and it doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of the solution is good. If a company needs to expand the product, it can do so.

W have 50 users on Microsoft right now.

How are customer service and support?

In South Africa, we have great technical support from Microsoft. It comes down to the training and the availability of resources and that is great.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not previously use a different solution. We've always used Microsoft.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment is very easy. The initial setup is simple. There are zero hassles.

I didn't do the installation personally, however, I know we just did a deployment for about 50 users, and it took us about a day to deploy it.

What about the implementation team?

You can do it just by yourself. The guidelines and the training and so forth that Microsoft provides for users are great. If you follow that, it's great. From a Microsoft point of view, if you follow the step-by-step guide, it's easy to deploy. You don't need an integrator or consultant.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is overpriced for the region.

We pay a licensing fee on a monthly basis.

What other advice do I have?

I'm just a customer or an end-user.

As a cloud-based solution, we're using the latest version of the product.

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. We've been happy with its capabilities in general.

We would recommend the solution to other users.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

GUI has been greatly enhanced and it has the single click advantage
Pros and Cons
  • "The GUI has been enhanced and it supports the 365 suite."
  • "Lack of alerts when there are issues with connectivity or power surges."

What is our primary use case?

My primary use case of Windows 10 is for any type of office work - emails, remote connectivity, document management, storage and the like. I'm an associate partner.

What is most valuable?

From a user standpoint, the GUI has been enhanced as well as some add-ons with respect to news, forecasts, GPS. I think overall there are some good features and it has the single click advantage. Also, the entire integration supports the 365 Suite.

What needs improvement?

I'd like to see some sort of technical notification service reminder regarding hardware health. It's a feature that could help because I get quite a lot of Microsoft Office crashes. It asks whether you want to report them and then the notification disappears into thin air. I also think that task manager needs to be a little more graphical in nature, with more user analytics and I'd also like to know usages so I can run an operating system sometimes, multitasking, things like that. There are sometimes connectivity issues when there is any sort of power fluctuation with the adapter or from the main, and I think that area needs improvement. If there are power surges, or the adapter is not able to send the required power to the BIOS, there should be alerts. The other big one for me is integration with the hardware so that, for example, a user can know if there's a problem of dead pixels on the screen, some sort of predictive analytics on that front would be helpful.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for about three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable despite some crashes that I've experienced. On the whole it's performance has improved and optimization-wise, the issues are not generally visible to the end user.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

They've done a good job from a scalability perspective because if you look at the different systems that are enabled, the operating system does a good job.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend this solution, it's been tried and tested over years and I am very comfortable with it. At the end of the day, it's about affordability, and Microsoft OS stands out from that perspective.

I rate the solution eight out of 10.

Scalable with good integration capabilities and great stability
Pros and Cons
  • "Microsoft recently has been doing a lot to improve their products and we've been happy with the advances."
  • "The enterprise version I have contains many things that are not intended to be enterprise; they are intended for home customers. This includes things like some games and some stuff like that."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is basically used for our work processes. We use it for daily communication.

What is most valuable?

In terms of Microsoft products, for me, the most important aspect is integration. You are provided with integration between all of these different tools from one vendor.

For communication, Microsoft Teams is quite good. I like it.

It is a stable solution.

The solution is scalable. The cloud product has scalability as well.

Microsoft recently has been doing a lot to improve their products and we've been happy with the advances.

What needs improvement?

If we talk about Windows, it's too generic.

The enterprise version I have contains many things that are not intended to be enterprise; they are intended for home customers. This includes things like some games and some stuff like that. It needs to be more streamlined and customized for business users.

The solution has been very scalable, especially if you take advantage of the cloud deployment model. If a company needs to expand it, it's easy enough to do so.

We have this solution on every computer, It's used by thousands of people within our organization.

How are customer service and technical support?

Sometimes I need to contact technical support to give me some additional rights or something like that. Or to install something that I don't have, as a corporate company and you cannot just install everything you want on your computer. You have to ask for support. This is our internal team, however.

I have never called Microsoft myself. Therefore, I cannot speak to how helpful or responsive they are.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

At other companies, I did use other products. However, here, it's always been Windows.

How was the initial setup?

I don't deal with the installation process. Our IT department does it. It's not my problem.

There's an internal team that deals with maintenance as well. I do not have to worry about that.

What about the implementation team?

We have an IT department that can internally handle any implementations.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'm not aware of the costs involved in the product. I do not handle licensing.

What other advice do I have?

We are a customer and an end-user.

We are using the latest version of the solution. I cannot speak to the exact version number.

I would rate the solution at an eight out of ten. We've been pleased with its capabilities in the years we've used it.

I would recommend the solution to other users and companies. It works well.
