Improves code quality and development time, and technical support is good
Pros and Cons
  • "Code testing is the most valuable feature of this solution for developing software."
  • "Enhancing the support for web application testing and load performance would be an improvement."

What is our primary use case?

We do a lot of in-house custom software development. We develop these applications for our customers, and we do the integration with solutions from different vendors. We primarily use this solution for integrating different applications.

We have an on-premises deployment, although we are in the process of migrating to the cloud both for us and our customers.

What is most valuable?

Code testing is the most valuable feature of this solution for developing software. The unit testing functionality is very helpful.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see better integration with the main product, Visual Studio.

The tools for unit testing can be improved, giving a better ability to manage tests.

I would like to see more plugins.

Enhancing the support for web application testing and load performance would be an improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for between one and two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There are some bugs, and sometimes it runs very slowly, but nothing that is major. We expect these things will be straightened out in future releases.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability with this solution is fine. For our purposes, it is perfectly ok.

We have about fifteen software developers using this solution.

How are customer service and support?

We have requested a few tickets from technical support and the feedback is good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Prior to this solution, we used third-party tools. Once we used this solution it was much better because of the higher level of integration with the main product, as well as the overall code management.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of this solution is pretty straightforward.

Our team is very experienced with Visual Studio, so it took them maybe one week to get everything in order.

What about the implementation team?

Our in-house team implemented this solution.

Two administrators are enough for deployment and maintenance.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did not evaluate other options. This solution was released while we were using third-party tools, and once that happened we knew that we had to use it because of the integration.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to anybody researching this solution is that this tool is a must. It is very helpful for testing code. It will end up costing them less than what they are paying with third-party applications, partly because of the integration that is available.

The developers have to be familiar with Visual Studio Test Professional because they will know how to organize the code such that the testing comes out with results that are meaningful to them.

Overall, this is a very good product.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

It needs to be independent and user-friendly

What is most valuable?

TFS and MTM.

How has it helped my organization?

I haven't worked with any real projects, but did some R&D using TFS and MTM. MTM is very good for maintaining the test plan, test suite and all. Can link automation scripts with existing manual test cases.

What needs improvement?

It needs to be independent and user-friendly (cannot link automation scripts from MTM, should link the scripts by opening visual studio).

For how long have I used the solution?

Around two years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

Nothing specific.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I felt it was bit slow (May be it depends on the server memory size(?).

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Nothing specific.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

A seven out of 10.

Technical Support:

A seven out of 10

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Just for some analysis.

How was the initial setup?

A little bit complex setting test agents and controllers.

What about the implementation team?

Not through a vendor team.

What was our ROI?

No ROI since it is just for R&D.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Costly, but effective

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Any other automation tool that supports C#.
