The templates give a pre-build structure
Pros and Cons
  • "The tool has highly detailed debugging features."
  • "The tool crashes and has high memory consumption."

What is our primary use case?

It is an integrated development environment. Every developer who uses .NET has to use Visual Studio. Without it, developing, building, and releasing products is very difficult. Visual Studio has many features for development. It helps with the full development life cycle. The tool is primarily for coders.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution provides us with a set of templates. It reduces the development time because the templates give a pre-build structure. We can build our code on it. The solution provides automation testing tools that we can use for unit testing and stress testing. The product provides a mechanism to build our code and release it wherever we want. If we use CI/CD, we do not have to use Visual Studio.

What is most valuable?

We can use the IDE to develop code. The product gives hints and autocomplete features for code. IntelliSense is very good. It improves the coding experience. The tool has highly detailed debugging features. We can debug our code and easily find the problem using it.

We can do TDD using Visual Studio. Visual Studio helps us to create test cases for our functions. We can run the test cases or make them a part of our CI/CD pipeline. Whenever we run CI/CD, the test cases will run. The debugging tool is very good. It is quite advanced. We can track down our issues easily. It gives us a full stack trace.

What needs improvement?

The tool crashes and has high memory consumption. Sometimes, it doesn't support certain features. The performance must be improved.

The tool is quite stable. It crashes when we have huge codes.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We can scale it vertically by increasing the RAM. Five to seven developers use the solution in our organization.

How are customer service and support?

We do not use technical support. Usually, we search for the problems in Microsoft’s forum and solve them ourselves.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is simple. To deploy the solution, we downloaded the setup file and installed it.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation can be done in-house.

What was our ROI?

If we do not use tools like Visual Studio, we will have to do much work ourselves. The product improves our productivity.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We can pay an annual license fee. We can also pay per user. The tool is affordable. It is not expensive.

What other advice do I have?

People who want to use the product must get familiar with it. They must read some documentation. They must understand what they want to achieve using Visual Studio. Overall, I rate the product a nine out of ten.

Customization is a key feature as is the ability to integrate with third-party services
Pros and Cons
  • "Customization is the most powerful feature of this product."
  • "The documentation is limited."

What is our primary use case?

We used this product for developing an automation tool for workflow operations, and for customizing activities in the automation process. This included sending emails, searching or extracting data from work applications, and using OCR technology. I'm a full-stack technical leader and we were customers of Visual Studio.

What is most valuable?

Customization is the most powerful feature of this product because you can mold and design to your requirements. It's possible, for example, to build an OCR test from PDF or work files or build your own component based on OCR provisions and obtain the data required to process. If you extract a bill you can get the identification of the vendor or IT of the product, its quantity, value, unit, and additional information. Test Professional has the advantage of being able to integrate with any kind of third-party service which is very useful for the programming phase. It also has the ability to integrate without programming or the need for developing any APIs or services to integrate with robots. A regular user can do it.

What needs improvement?

We found the documentation to be limited and we had problems with the vendor who delivered it which added to the complexity. I'd like to see improvement in the dashboard which currently lacks visibility regarding the working process of the solutions.

For how long have I used the solution?

I used this solution for three years, up until a couple of months ago when I moved to a different company.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is generally stable although it depends on the third-party systems, which in the case of the AS-100 system or APIs, there may be some risk to stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable, whether it's adding an additional server, working with two users and two robots, or switching to another user account if you're not using the total server capacity.

How are customer service and support?

Microsoft provides great support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We had previously used other solutions such as UI pod, Blue Prism and Bucket Bot. Visual Studio proved to be the most cost-effective for our needs.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was relatively easy. Deployment time really depends on the complexity of the project but we were able to implement in-house. If you have Windows knowledge and net experience, you can deploy without too many problems. Without that, implementation would be more complicated. We had five people involved in the deployment and 10 users involved in development and analysis.

What was our ROI?

We had a good return on our investment in terms of the efficiency the solution provided.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing costs are reasonable in comparison to other solutions. One license costs close to $1,300. With five people programming on one license, the cost is around $6,000 per year. With other vendors, that expense could reach $50,000. The server and obviously IT infrastructure is an additional expense.

What other advice do I have?

I think this is an accurate and customizable product with the advantage of being able to integrate easily. It's very useful when it comes to programming.

I rate this solution eight out of 10.
