Senior Enterprise Architect at Boston Scientific
A tool with an easy setup phase and good support but needs to improve stability
Pros and Cons
- "The support is very good."
- "With the solution, we had some issues, and we have every day, and we used to open a ticket. Sometimes, there are data issues and transformation issues."
What is our primary use case?
How has it helped my organization?
Informatica Cloud Data Integration is being used to transform data. Primarily, it is for creating data pipelines.
What is most valuable?
Integration is a valuable feature. Currently, the integration makes our security more robust, especially when compared to IICS, where we would need to make arrangements through native or other ways to handle that, and here using sum up makes our lives easier.
What needs improvement?
With the solution, we had some issues, and we have every day, and we used to open a ticket. Sometimes, there are data issues and transformation issues. So things are not very mature. They need to improve in the aforementioned areas. We are hoping that it will be sorted out in some time, and we will get to experience a hassle-free life.

For how long have I used the solution?
My company does business with Informatica. We are using their product. I have been using Informatica Cloud Data Integration for four to five years. I am an end user of the solution. Also, I am using the solution's latest version.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I think they are working. Their engineers are still working on some transformations and some features. It is not as stable as they are thinking, but in the last two years, we have seen good progress. So, we are hoping for a similar thing in the future as well. So it is scalable. But, stability-wise, I think that a more stable version is going to come.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I think it is a scalable product. Around a hundred users are using the solution in my company.
How are customer service and support?
The support is very good. On a scale of one to ten, I rate the technical support between eight and ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
So we've got many solutions. Not before going to Informatica, but we were evaluating and working with other sets of tools as well. So, on AWS, it is EMR and Glue. We quite frequently use Glue for data pipelines. We also use SAP S/4HANA for delegation. I like IPC and IICS because I have experience in them for the last fifteen years, and I'm working using the same tools. So, I mean, it is my biased opinion. Otherwise, since I have not caught exposure to the other tools in the market that the people in my company are using in different teams, I don't have much exposure to them. Had I gone through those experiences, I would probably have recommended some other tools as well. Currently, I'm in this industry using this tool only, so I recommend it only for that reason.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very easy. Currently, we are in a deployment process. We've not yet orchestrated that part, but we are in the process of creating the deployment pipelines.
I have deployed the solution on the cloud. Also, there is no maintenance required for the solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Cost-wise, I think it is on the higher side, and that is why we are looking for some better options. Licensing costs are huge compared to other players in the market and for my company.
What other advice do I have?
It's a good tool to start with in the beginning.
The product is maturing and has not matured yet. If I look at the market, there are other tools that are providing this stable solution. I rate the overall solution between five to six out of ten.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.

It has more connectors for various types of applications than some competing tools
Pros and Cons
- "Informatica is good for integrating data and cloud applications. We have connectors for integrating cloud applications like Salesforce. You can quickly integrate anything with an exposed API or a REST API. The industry is increasingly shifting to the cloud, so we need more products that can connect to cloud-based applications. The integration is seamless and works in real time. It's also secure because you don't need to expose databases or tables."
- "There is room for improvement at the highest level in terms of useability and connectors for various types of new applications. The row processing performance could be better because you experience some latency dealing with high volumes of data. Most organizations will be dealing with multiple cloud applications, so you could see performance issues moving from one system to another."
What is our primary use case?
We use Informatica as our one-stop cloud integration solution. We are connecting two different data systems like SAP or Salesforce, integrating on-site financial data with some applications that process financial information like an ERP to plan budgets and forecast revenue. I'm creating a data warehouse and using that with tools like Power BI to create reports and dashboards.
What is most valuable?
Informatica is good for integrating data and cloud applications. We have connectors for integrating cloud applications like Salesforce. You can quickly integrate anything with an exposed API or a REST API. The industry is increasingly shifting to the cloud, so we need more products that can connect to cloud-based applications. The integration is seamless and works in real time. It's also secure because you don't need to expose databases or tables.
What needs improvement?
There is room for improvement at the highest level in terms of useability and connectors for various types of new applications. The row processing performance could be better because you experience some latency dealing with high volumes of data. Most organizations will be dealing with multiple cloud applications, so you could see performance issues moving from one system to another.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have worked with Informatica products for about seven or eight years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate Cloud Data Integration seven out of 10 for stability. Even though Informatica is based in the cloud, it still depends on a secure agent deployed on-prem. The performance of the individual machine where you install the gateway can affect the stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I rate Cloud Data Integration eight out of 10 for scalability.
How are customer service and support?
I rate Informatica support eight out of 10. They have a dedicated customer success portal where you can search a lot of knowledge base articles that tell you how to use Informatica in various scenarios. You can also use the portal to raise a support ticket describing your scenario, what you hope to achieve, and where you're having problems. The technical support responsiveness and dedicated customer support are decent enough.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have some experience with Azure Data Factory, and I worked with another Informatica product called PowerCenter. I switched to Informatica Cloud Data Integration because my customers' needs changed. More companies began prioritizing clouds. As developers, we also needed to scale up our services.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I'm not aware of the exact licensing cost because the senior management handles that, but I know that products like Azure Data Factory are less expensive than Informatica. At the same time, Informatica gives you more options and connectors. Everything is possible, whether you want to do API-based integration, traditional data integration, etc.
Azure Data Factory is more useful for connecting with the Azure cloud. You can also play around with the native data integration tools that other cloud providers offer, like GCP or AWS.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Informatica Cloud Data Integration eight out of 10. I recommend Informatica as an integration tool for large and medium-sized enterprises migrating to the cloud. Cost is something to keep in mind because Informatica might be too pricey for smaller companies. Large and medium-sized companies can easily afford it if they plan to use it as a one-stop solution for all their cloud integration and management needs.
If you need a middle layer to build your pipeline, that can be achieved using Azure Data Factory or any other data integration tool. Still, Informatica has some advantages in terms of connectors and help desk resources. When you contact the Informatica help desk, you can speak with engineers who helped develop the Informatica platform, so they have rich experience with integration technologies. The product itself is highly reliable and suitable for your integration needs.
Azure Data Factory has almost 80 percent of the same features, and it might work for you if you have a Microsoft ecosystem. Using Data Factory is cheaper. However, if you're a large or medium-sized organization or a reseller and your data is more valuable, it might make more sense to use Informatica at that scale. You'll be interacting with many more types of applications and might need to integrate the applications in various ways.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Microsoft Azure
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.

Removes the need for third parties, offers seamless data integration, and is easy to handle
Pros and Cons
- "The application integration will give you more flexibility when dealing with APIs."
- "There could be a lot more application integration."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution for data integration as well as application integration.
Currently, we have a multiple-source system. With Oracle ERP, it's very hard to pull data from Oracle ERP, since it's API based. Therefore we have to make use of Informatica Application Integration to pull data from Oracle ERP.
We are pulling our supplier information, customer data, and data for projects related to information.
What is most valuable?
It's a beautiful tool. It eliminates the use of a third party or some other tool as it provides beautiful functionality.
In an earlier version, when we are working with an on-premise tool, it was hard since we had to concentrate on the configuration, et cetera. However, now, when we are working with the cloud, most of the time it's very easy to handle.
Data integration happens seamlessly and is pretty fast.
The application integration will give you more flexibility when dealing with APIs.
Every week, we seem to get notifications of new features and updates. They are always trying to improve the product.
What needs improvement?
When we're dealing with huge amounts of data, we need to reach out to Informatica. There are some kinds of API records that we need to modify configurations for.
Application integration, as compared to data, is a bit slow, and it can't handle millions of records.
There could be a lot more application integration. Like data integration, we find there are a lot of places where we can go ahead and improve performance. When it comes to application integration as a developer, we don't have that much flexibility. We have constraints. Our hands are tied, and we can't do anything. We need to speak with either the target system or the core system and say, "Okay, do this thing."
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been working with the solution for more than two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is a stable, reliable product. Sometimes there is a bug or a cache issue. We might get an error when connecting and when that happens, we reach out to support. We find it's a pretty common issue. It might be a glitch.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is very scalable. We have some challenges around application integration, and that requires speaking with support. We tell them we need to change a configuration to a specific size. They can assist us when that happens. That's only for application integration, not data integration. With the cloud, we can easily handle millions of records of data.
A variety of people use the solution in our company. There are 50 to 500 users, approximately.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support seems to take their time in responding. We'd like a faster reaction time. Sometimes it takes one to two days to get a response.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We did not previously use a different solution. Currently, we're working with data and application integration with Informatica only.
How was the initial setup?
We've mostly dealt with on-premises deployments. As a developer, most of the time, we face a lot of challenges, which are overcome when it comes to Informatica Cloud. Informatica Cloud is much more convenient, as well as fast, and gives good performance as well. With the cloud, we don't have to install software and there aren't any dependencies. It's much more convenient and easy with Informatica Cloud.
The deployment hardly takes more than a few minutes.
When it comes to the cloud, there is no maintenance necessary. Informatica takes care of any support tasks. They do the updating, et cetera, as well.
What about the implementation team?
We handled the initial setup in-house. There were no third parties involved in the deployment process.
What was our ROI?
We have not looked at ROI.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution is subscription-based. Users are charged based on how many resources are used.
The pricing is pretty good. I'd rate it 8.5 to nine out of ten.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did not evaluate any other solutions previously. Our client already had this as a pre-existing tool and did not want to switch.
What other advice do I have?
I'm working with the latest version of the solution.
Informatica is a stable, easy tool. New users should go and explore it. There is improvement required in Informatica Application Integration; not the cloud.
I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. We're quite happy with the product.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

Provides data cataloging and lineage with metadata management but lacks integration
Pros and Cons
- "The valuable feature is metadata management. If you want to trace sensitive data, you can auto-classify them. You can search for sensitive information through EDC. Using Discovery, you can identify if there is any type of data set."
- "The integration with other data management tools can be enhanced. For instance, there is no integration with tools like Collibra or Hubview."
What is our primary use case?
We use the solution for data cataloging and lineage.
What is most valuable?
The valuable feature is metadata management. If you want to trace sensitive data, you can auto-classify them. You can search for sensitive information through EDC. Using Discovery, you can identify if there is any type of data set.
What needs improvement?
EDC is only used for cataloging and meetings. Currently, not many different databases are integrated with it. The ETL logic should be visible within the tool. If EDC is integrated with Axon, you will see the data lineage and catalog because of EDC. If EDC is removed, you cannot see any lineage or catalog.
We need EDC on the application level. Currently, it is only at a system level. It can be shown as an application layer between policies or regulations. This kind of feature can be enabled.
The integration with other data management tools can be enhanced. For instance, there is no integration with tools like Collibra or Hubview.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog for seven years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
EDC needs many ports to run. Therefore, to improve performance, you need to increase the number of cores.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is easy and takes two weeks to complete. One person is enough to deploy it.
What was our ROI?
EDC gives you a better understanding of architecture and the system used. You cannot use EDC completely unless you have access.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The product is expensive.
What other advice do I have?
EDC is a standalone application, so it doesn’t really make much sense. It doesn’t give you a lot of features that way; it’s primarily for cataloging and classification. Nobody would buy EDC as a standalone application. When people are buying EDC, it’s always with Axon.
I recommend buying the solution altogether with Axon.
Overall, I rate the solution as seven out of ten.

Provides good data quality and valuable features like match-merge engine and CLAIRE AI engine
Pros and Cons
- "The solution's most valuable features are its data quality, match-merge engine, and CLAIRE AI engine, which helps with AI automation."
- "Compared to other tools in the market, Informatica MDM is costly."
What is our primary use case?
Informatica MDM is used for our customers' master data management journey. The solution meets our client's requirements for their customer-supplier or any other entities.
What is most valuable?
The solution's most valuable features are its data quality, match-merge engine, and CLAIRE AI engine, which helps with AI automation.
What needs improvement?
Compared to other tools in the market, Informatica MDM is costly.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Informatica MDM for 13 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Informatica MDM is highly stable compared to any other tool in the market.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Informatica MDM is a highly scalable solution. Our clients for Informatica MDM are mostly medium and enterprise businesses.
I rate the solution eight and a half out of ten for scalability.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support refuses to support us if we customize the tool. We customize the product based on the customer's needs, and we expect Informatica to provide support during that time as well.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
On a scale from one to ten, where one is difficult and ten is easy, I rate the solution's initial setup an eight out of ten for on-premises and nine out of ten for the cloud version. Setting up the tool in the cloud via IDMC doesn't take much time.
What about the implementation team?
The solution can be deployed within a few hours.
What was our ROI?
Our customers have seen a return on investment with the solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Informatica MDM is an expensive solution. On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing nine and a half out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend the solution to other users because of its reliability and stability. Compared to other product vendors, Informatica MDM always has additional features. Informatica MDM has a CLAIRE AI engine, which helps with AI automation.
Overall, I rate the solution eight and a half out of ten.

Offers favorable data warehousing features but needs to improve UI
Pros and Cons
- "It is a scalable solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten."
- "Certain shortcomings in the product's UI make it an area where improvements are required."
What needs improvement?
You have to deal with a minimum of five, even if you want to go and check only a particular logic, making it an area with issues where improvements are required.
Certain shortcomings in the product's UI make it an area where improvements are required. The tool should provide ease of use and flexibility.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Informatica Cloud Data Integration for four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability-wise, I rate the solution a five out of ten.
I see that my company faces frequent challenges in the tool when it comes to the area of UI and related to the area of characters. In my company, we have experienced some issues that occur when upgrading the tool.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is a scalable solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.
Enterprise-sized customers can choose Informatica Cloud Data Integration.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support for the solution is helpful, but it takes them time to figure out the issue. The time taken to close the ticket depends on the support that Informatica gets from their backend technical team. It takes a long time to close a ticket. I rate the technical support a seven out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
How was the initial setup?
The product's initial setup phase was not difficult.
The product's deployment phase can be carried out by linking a .exe file provided by the solution with your server.
The solution is deployed on the cloud.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Against Informatica Cloud Data Integration, I recommend SnapLogic, which is a cheaply priced product. People know about SnapLogic, as it comes with very good features and ease of use.
What other advice do I have?
The feature of the product that I find the most beneficial for data warehousing tasks is the use of the tool for extracting and loading purposes, which depends upon the connector's availability. Many connectors in Informatica are not free or out of the box, and you have to purchase them. The tool has quality connectors.
I haven't used the tool for real-time data analytics, but I have used it in my company for batch-oriented purposes. Data integration will not be supported in real-time in Informatica Cloud Data Integration. For real-time data integration, you have to go with either the application integration or other products like Informatica PowerExchange.
In Informatica Cloud Data Integration, the transformation feature was almost the same as that of Informatica PowerCenter. In Informatica Cloud Data Integration, the transformation features may offer a couple of more functionalities.
In terms of the ease of learning that the product provides, I would say that those who have experience with Informatica PowerCenter can easily adopt Informatica Cloud Data Integration. A person who has worked on Informatica Cloud Data Integration may not be comfortable with Informatica PowerCenter. In terms of ease of use, I consider Informatica PowerCenter to be easier than Informatica Cloud Data Integration.
I rate the ease of use experience attached to the tool a six out of ten.
Only after considering the use cases of people can I recommend the product to them. If a person only wants a product for extraction and loading purposes, then I feel that there are many cheap products in the market that can satisfy their needs. Suppose someone is looking at a tool that offers widespread features, like application integration and real-time functionalities. In that case, all of it comes under Informatica, which can be a good option.
The tool is the most expensive one compared to any of the other products in the market, especially in terms of ETL functionalities or integration features.
My company has integrated SAP, many databases, and APIs into Informatica Cloud Data Integration.
I can see that the performance of the product keeps improving with every new release, especially in the area of job executions, even though the hardware may be the same.
I rate the tool a seven out of ten.

Helps in consolidating all our master data across the entire organization
Pros and Cons
- "The profiling feature in Informatica Data Quality is incredibly effective for data governance."
- "There is room for improvement in the Data Marketplace aspect."
What is our primary use case?
I use Informatica Data Quality to consolidate master data across our organization, ensuring consistent and high-quality data. Combining MDM and data quality features, we address issues like customer data inaccuracies. Additionally, we document business terms in our data catalog for a unified view across the company.
What is most valuable?
The profiling feature in Informatica Data Quality is incredibly effective for data governance. It helps identify data types and potential duplicates, streamlining the detection process. It also suggests matches with predefined fields in our catalog.
What needs improvement?
There is room for improvement in the Data Marketplace aspect. Specifically, we found some basic functionalities lacking, like transparent integration of quality indicators. Customizability and additional features in the Data Marketplace would be welcomed in future updates.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Informatica Data Quality for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would rate the stability of the solution as an eight out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability with Informatica had some initial challenges, especially when ingesting metadata into the data catalog due to the large volume of source systems and data. While it eventually worked, it took considerable time. Overall, I would rate it a six out of ten for scalability at the moment.
Initially, a few hundred users were using Informatica, but now it is a few thousand.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support is good. I would rate them at a seven out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
How was the initial setup?
Maintenance and troubleshooting are handled solely by the vendor.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Informatica's licensing cost is among the highest in the market. I would rate it as a five out of ten in terms of costliness. With Informatica, we have a single bundled agreement covering the entire solution based on total capacity rather than specific modules.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before choosing Informatica, we evaluated various vendors, including IBM and Microsoft. Initially, we considered a best-of-breed approach, but Informatica emerged as the preferred choice for three out of four key areas: MDM, data quality, and data marketplace. While there were some limitations in certain tools like the data marketplace and data catalog, we opted for Informatica's complete suite to avoid additional integration efforts and to capitalize on its strengths in critical areas.
What other advice do I have?
The rule-based strategies feature in Informatica Data Quality has greatly benefited our data quality initiatives. With predefined rules in place, it provides a solid framework for assessing data quality. While data quality ultimately depends on source system updates, these rules give valuable insights and are heavily used alongside automatic profiling for effective data management.
Informatica Data Quality works within our IT setup for analyzing and reporting on data quality. It doesn't directly integrate with other tools, but it gives us clear insights. Data flows from sources to Informatica for analysis, and then to data stewards for updates, but there is no integration back to the original applications yet.
Navigating between modules within Informatica isn't always seamless. For instance, actions in the catalog might not be visible in the data marketplace.
Overall, I would rate Informatica Data Quality as an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

A tool that is suitable for small, medium, and enterprise-sized businesses and is worth the money
Pros and Cons
- "Informatica Data Quality is a product that is worth the money."
- "Considering internal data from legacy systems, it is quite difficult to know if Informatica Data Quality meets that high level of accuracy criteria."
What is our primary use case?
A wide range of solutions exist because data is primary, and my company looks over many overall data management solutions, from which Informatica Data Quality becomes one of our biggest priorities.
What is most valuable?
I cannot just go into details of the product's features randomly because if you look at a very wide range of overall requirements, be it Informatica or Talend or more data lake solutions like Snowflake. My company goes through an entire range of areas, making it difficult for me to just speak about the features.
What needs improvement?
Accuracy is one of the key areas a client looks at before using a solution. Considering internal data from legacy systems, it is quite difficult to know if Informatica Data Quality meets that high level of accuracy criteria. The aforementioned area can be considered for improvement in the solution.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been a consultant for Informatica Data Quality for two years in my company. I don't directly use the solution.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
From a stability point of view, I haven't heard of any complaints about the solution from any of my company's clients who use it.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I don't go into the technical side of Informatica Data Quality much since I mostly work on the procurement side and market knowledge area related to the product. Scalability remains one of the requirements of the clients who buy the product, especially for future growth. My company caters to a mixture of clients, consisting of small, medium, and enterprise-sized businesses.
How was the initial setup?
I do not go into the complete deployment areas of Informatica Data Quality.
The solution is deployed on a hybrid cloud.
What was our ROI?
Informatica Data Quality is a product that is worth the money.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I rate the product's pricing a seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is the lowest price and ten is the highest price.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I do look at a number of data quality tools, but Informatica, Talend, and Ataccama are a few of the top solutions I have come across.
My company deals with Informatica Data Quality since Informatica is a big vendor in the overall data management area.
What other advice do I have?
I won't be able to speak on how I can recommend the solution to others since my suggestions will have to be based on the product's features and technical details. I wouldn't be able to point out anything about the product in detail, especially since I am not much of an end user.
Based on the feedback that I have received about the product from my company's customers, I rate the overall product a seven or eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud
