GFI LanGuard Room for Improvement

The product is currently on-premise, and I think the cloud option is still yet to come. If a customer has their own cloud, we can host it there, but the SaaS model is not available, and most companies are requesting the SaaS model for patch management.

GFI LanGuard is a good competitor in the market and is popular in my region. We get many leads and numerous requirements for patch management, but most companies ask for the SaaS model, which creates challenges.

Third-party app integration needs to be increased in GFI LanGuard. It shouldn't be limited to 30 or 40 applications because there are many applications being used. Instead of manually patching everything, if those patches are included in the product, it would be easier for automatic patching.

The only drawback with GFI LanGuard is that you cannot directly integrate it from the Outlook email; instead, you have to first log in to the site to make changes. Instead of directly white listing or black listing directly from my email or Outlook, I had to go to the GFI login and do it there, which might be a drawback for first-time users.

Removing the software is a bit of a complex process. It's not straightforward. When you are deploying the solution, you deploy it centrally to the endpoints. However, when you want to uninstall software from an endpoint, sometimes it becomes very problematic.

One of the features that I'm always keen on is software-defined wide area network capability. I know this is actually something that they've worked on, and it's called the Exinda SD-WAN, but I would wish they would include it in the GFI suite as a package. I think they could incorporate Exinda SD-WAN and the bandwidth module for network application performance as part of their package with the GFI.

Also, I think they need to drop modules that are a bit obsolete, like the FaxMaker and FaxMaker Online.

GFI LanGuard could improve the rollback feature. If we have installed the wrong we have had some issues with the rollback function. Additionally, more input from GFI LanGuard for the custom software push install.

The main improvement that the manufacturer should consider is to make it so this solution will not be limited to the local area network only. Currently, it is limited to only the LAN. If there was an option for managing workstations or servers outside the LAN, that would be a great improvement. This option could be enabled by having a means of the roaming work station to the central management dashboard or to the server. That, for us, is the most important feature that is missing.

The version we are using only allows one person to use it at a time and does not allow multi-users. They should include that in the future.

The documentation on how to use this solution in a Linux environment is not clear, which is something that should be improved because it is complicated.

In the next release, I would like to see more support for pushing custom software.

If GFI LanGuard had a cloud version it would be better for people that are working from home.

There are many features that need to be added standard in the future to stay competitive, such as remote distance service.
