This is a medium-scale solution, and in our country, we use Dell PowerStore for medium-scale data center solutions.

We have done two replication solutions where we use the Dell PowerStore capability to replicate between them. These are the case scenarios we do for basic consolidation VMware.

In Telco companies where we use Dell PowerStore, the IOPS we obtain in certain consolidations is very high. We used to use Unity and could get approximately 100k thousand IOPS in a typical consolidation with four hosts and one data in one storage. With Dell PowerStore, we're getting close to 200,000 IOPS, which has doubled our performance.

The primary use case for Dell PowerStore was for our disaster recovery site at our secondary data center.

The equipment there was already eight years old and we really needed to replace it. We couldn't get finance to back us with a big deployment and substantial funding. So we determined that we needed something that could run our critical tasks if our main data center goes offline.

While it's running particular tasks of secondary importance at that data center, it can also take the load of the critical systems that we're doing on daily backups and weekends' full backups.

We are using Dell PowerStore for different kinds of workloads. They use Dell PowerStore for mission-critical or high-performance purposes.

We have customers all across the globe and in different verticals, including manufacturing, healthcare, and finance. HCL Tech provides Dell PowerStore, and we also create a service model for end customers similar to storage as a service that Dell offers. There is a big contract between HCL Tech and Dell Technologies through which we use these Dell PowerStore devices and create storage as a service to support our end customers across the globe.

Our team is validating Dell PowerStore for some Gen AI use cases, but we are still working on that as it's not finalized.

We mainly work with 3000 and 5000 models. We don't work much with the entry level models.

Basically, we use Dell PowerStore for storage and backup purposes. We perform a lot of backup activity on it, mainly weekly backup, monthly backup, and we store yearly backup. It is very good, accessible, flexible, and scalable. We get good connectivity and good speed. Everything is fine with Dell EMC.

The speed at which we use Dell PowerStore is awesome. The duration of the backup time is very less. We have a couple of Dell PowerStore appliances. If I calculate it, I have more than five of them. The model is PowerStore 500T.

I work as an in-house engineer with Dell PowerStore. We directly ordered from the Dell site. We have shared experience of ordering from Dell, working in teams, and satisfaction with collaboration. We use Azure cloud services and benefit from redundancy and clustering. Dell EMC provides strong infrastructure and a good technical foundation. We leverage different Dell products in a cohesive infrastructure with seamless data management for improved performance and efficiency.

Dell PowerStore is used for mixed workloads based on virtualization, primarily VMware. Many customers choose iSCSI, and the newly formed protocol NVMe over TCP is also available. Fibre Channel deployments have also been completed. The main reason many customers have selected Dell PowerStore is based on the 5-to-1 dedupe and compression, but workloads must be sized according to the customer's specific requirements to guarantee the 5-to-1 dedupe and compression.

I have completed Dell PowerStore installations for small, medium, and enterprise businesses ranging from PowerStore 500T, which is the entry level, up to PowerStore 9000 series. These installations have been completed on NVMe, SAS, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, and NVMe protocols across all models.

From an entry-level perspective, PowerStore 500T has limited expansion capabilities. A couple of shelves can be added, but the controllers cannot be upgraded. Starting from PowerStore 1200T, expandability is available with their performance guarantee program where controller upgrades can be performed. The latest features with PowerStore 300Q use QMLC drives, providing bigger drives and expansion capabilities. Dell also offers a 5-to-1 dedupe compression guarantee. Dell PowerStore directly integrates with Dell Data Domain where backups can be offloaded directly to the Data Domain side.

Based in South Africa and the SADEC region in Africa, many customers use co-locations or their own data centers. There is no Dell PowerStore offering in the cloud as a storage-as-a-service option based on the Dell APEX model. Many customers tend to have it deployed on-premises.

Dell PowerStore has many use cases, such as in banking and virtualization, especially database projects.

Regarding use cases, since it's flash storage, it's NVMe class flash storage, so it covers most of the cases in the industry. You can use it in mid to enterprise-class banking sectors; some customers are even using it in core banking, virtualization, and these kinds of workloads. Some other use cases are also being implemented since this is very common storage.

We delivered and implemented it for multiple customers.

There was some workload involved in these implementations. One project was in the financial sector. Another sector was for premium watches where they had workload with respect to their engineering labs. We majorly used this for their virtual environment and databases. They had a lot of issues with their current Unity, which was another Dell product, with performance issues. As they were looking to upgrade on the Dell platform itself, we proposed Dell PowerStore. Initially, we had everything on SSD drives, which are solid-state drives or flash drives. We moved everything—the databases and the VM virtual infrastructure—to Dell PowerStore. As it was a Dell product, it was easy to migrate. They saw the improvement with that.

Majorly, it is an NVMe architecture—an all-flash system that improved our performance with low latency. It was supporting mixed workload, which is virtualization and database. The virtual machines were Linux, Windows, and everything.

Dell PowerStore is a really interesting array because since it's a full NVMe array, we can consolidate all types of workloads on it, including virtualization. It's an array that can be set up in block mode or unified mode with file, so we can even put file on it and now replicate them in synchronous mode. It's really a multi-environment array. We use it a lot to implement Oracle OLVM clusters. It's really an interesting solution for doing that, in terms of its performance, and also because it supports Linux metro-cluster. We can consolidate Oracle databases with this solution under very good conditions with an excellent level of performance.

Dell PowerStore can help consolidate the data on the storage part. After that, it's clear that Dell PowerStore will be able to interface with AI solutions to provide services. That's a certainty. However, it will remain just a block on the storage side.

Use cases that are mostly used involve some clients in the banks hosting main applications on Dell PowerStore, and sometimes it is used to replace previous generations of Dell products, such as Unity or VNX, where the customer base primarily consists of traditional Dell customers, along with some government institutions.

Some use cases with Dell PowerStore that can impact involve a client hosting an application for a public service that people use, and they provided feedback that the application performance has improved, and they are happy with this product.

Our company is a partner of Dell Technologies, and we primarily use Dell PowerStore as our main tool deployed across our portfolio of customers according to their requests. Dell PowerStore is one of our main components in the market that we sell to our portfolio of customers.

We have approximately 10 to 15 implementations because we do not use Dell PowerStore in-house for our purposes. We do have a lab Dell PowerStore, though I have forgotten the model. However, we sell Dell PowerStore to our clients where we provide the service of procuring it, configuring it, starting it up, and leading the roadmap for our client until the point of usage. We are not using it ourselves; we are selling it to further clients.

If the customer requests those capabilities, we do deploy metro clusters and stretched clustering. The deployment depends on the configuration and the use case requested from the client.

We had one deployment of Dell PowerStore within a Linux environment.

Dell PowerStore's main use cases involve virtualization as the primary use case. It is SAN storage that falls under midrange storage in Dell Technologies but includes all enterprise features such as deduplication and compression, which are expected from enterprise storage.

The main benefit is that the operating system is container-based. If a service like management fails, it restarts inside a container without rebooting the whole array, which is very valuable in enterprise storage. The ease of use is significant because it is very easy for administrators.

I have deployed almost all the appliances: 500, 1000, 3000, and 5000 models.

I have had some implementations where we have done clustering, adding two nodes for the storage itself.

In general, I would say that it is easy to move and optimize workloads within the cluster.

Built-in integrations for Dell PowerStore are important for my clients and for me personally. They are not the only reason why clients buy Dell PowerStore, but the integrations are important, especially if they streamline operations. The vSphere integration particularly streamlines operations so that there is no real need for specific storage knowledge, and you can accomplish all the common things you need during daily operations through vCenter. While it is important, it is not so important that this becomes the only point of decision for clients. However, they appreciate it, and it is a factor that counts in the decision-making process.

I work with Dell PowerStore for our key VMware environment. Dell PowerStore is easy to set up, and we have experienced no issues thus far. It works well, and we have achieved the performance we were looking for. It is quite scalable for our environment, and the VMware integration is also available.

We are using Dell PowerStore 5200T model with almost 500 terabyte capacity, and we have almost four appliances.

We have been able to consolidate data to a certain extent using Dell PowerStore. From a couple of storages, we were able to consolidate them into Dell PowerStore, so consolidation was achieved.

I have not experienced any crashes, downtimes, performance issues, or stability issues with Dell PowerStore. However, I think the upgrade process could take some time, and if it becomes faster, it would be helpful.

Dell PowerStore has helped to reduce our organization's CAPEX, capital expenditures, to some extent. I would not say completely, but we are able to consolidate to reduce it.

The ability to add capacity in single drive increments versus drive packs is not very important for us because these enhancements typically do not happen at that level. It may be important for some other organizations, but not for us.

As a reseller and Dell-only reseller partner organization, I have a number of customers who are currently using Dell PowerStore. It's a solution that we find is a great solution in the market. When Dell PowerStore first came to the market, a lot of our clients had VxRail with the convergence offering that Dell had. However, now with the Broadcom split from Dell with the VMware licensing, we're finding that with having Dell PowerStore with the AX nodes and the OEM Dell VMware solution built in, it's providing a very comprehensive solution to our customers. That's really helping us grow. We certainly find Dell PowerStore to be one of the best products out there in the market in terms of use cases for a lot of our customers across the board.

Because Dell PowerStore is built in with the all-flash and the NVMe platforms and the United offering it has with the single architecture for block, files, and the virtual volumes, it provides functionality and flexible functionality for our customers. They can use Dell PowerStore for various use cases. We've got customers in FinTech, in manufacturing, and in different industries as well. It's not really just suited for one type of industry; it can be used for many types of organizations.

We're in conversations with several organizations about using Dell PowerStore for AI initiatives. AI is obviously something that's more prevalent in the market and growing. We recently had a customer who had an 82-node VxRail. They had a refresh earlier in the year. Now they have Dell PowerStore with AX nodes. They have a cyber recovery solution as well, an air gap solution with a clean room. They're looking at how they can make their supply chain more efficient since they produce manufactured kitchens. A lot of it is learning what AI is capable of doing for their business and trying to see the benefits. We tend to find that FinTech organizations and companies doing trading are more interested in that type of technology. As AI matures, we will see more use cases for them.

My customer typically uses block storage. They have Dell PowerStore in two different locations, with one serving as the production environment and the other as the disaster recovery site. Replication exists between these two locations. One hundred percent of these volumes are allocated to VMware hosts. Approximately ninety percent of the environment is virtual, but the physical machines do not have contact with the storage; only the virtual machines do. The storage is provided to the hosts, which create the datastores, and these datastores are distributed between the VMs.

The organization has Linux VMs, but the storage is not directly connected to any physical Linux machines. Dell PowerStore integration with VMware is implemented, though not with VASA, as the VASA provider was not installed because we did not want the Windows server administrator accessing the storage. However, I can see all the VMs and which datastores they are from the storage view.

Dell PowerStore is used for backing up some of the infrastructure. It is not used entirely across the whole infrastructure, only for some parts. One isolated system uses Dell PowerStore for backing it up.

The number of users utilizing Dell PowerStore is small because it is used mainly for systems, not users. If considering how many systems have access to it, the estimate is a maximum of twenty.

Dell PowerStore's capabilities with compression or deduplication technologies have not been explored for the business. Since it is not being used as primary storage, only for on-site backups, this focus has not been prioritized.

Built-in integrations with VMware, Kubernetes, or containers in Dell PowerStore have not been utilized.

Our primary use case for Dell PowerStore is in a production facility as we are a beef manufacturer, predominantly beef, and we also have lamb facilities in Ireland and affiliates in Poland. Essentially, it's for storage and factory systems, so we're storing and collecting data points, along with office functions like file and print. We have on-prem systems on site, including SCADA-like systems for collecting data points throughout the manufacturing facilities. Our core Dell PowerStore and PowerEdge use case includes a data center footprint for central managed services, finance, and our ERP system, collecting data from our factory sites and storing it centrally so that we can pull it back for reporting. Additionally, our Dell PowerStore and PowerEdge serve our disaster recovery needs, allowing us to run a site remotely from our data center.

The main use cases for Dell PowerStore involve using it for applications that are compute and storage-sensitive. It is mainly the monitoring system that has a heavy load. Other than that, there are some critical internal applications that cannot have any time drift.

One of the specific challenges we are trying to address is migrating from our existing infrastructure. The power consumption isn't entirely dependent on Dell PowerStore, but when it comes to heavy applications, the power consumption goes high. We have a Dell PowerStore at three or four sites right now. We are trying to see if we can roll it out to another three to five sites.

We have about five Dell PowerStore appliances, and we are using the 500T model.

I use Dell PowerStore primarily for the main site, storing database data, and I also use it for data replication between two different sites. Additionally, there are sites where I have it as an independent storage box directly attached to the respective site. For other sites, I use it as shared storage between two different hosts in the data center or servers, employing it as block storage.

I have not clustered any of them; they are always independent per site.

Most of our clients are onboarded with Apex AI Ops, also known as Cloud IQ, to monitor most issues arising in the storage box. This simplifies the lives of these clients because initially we had an on-premise virtual machine that sometimes could go offline, but now it is cloud-based and monitored via AI. It provides different alerts, so I can easily know when a client's storage is getting full or if there's a faulty battery before the client even reports the issue to the support desk. I would say it's a helpful feature.

We were using Dell PowerStore as a block device for VMware infrastructure and in iSCSI Target for a couple of secret server clusters installed at a hardware level. Apart from that, regarding the workload, which is currently more or less 40% for SQL Servers and 60% for the production of VMware machines. We have a small workload on VMware machines to manage a typical number crunching machine and application server. Now, we have six machines running a couple of MongoDB servers. Honestly, our bottleneck is not the PowerStore. Our actual bottleneck is the networking size because we noticed how we got some barriers in LACP algorithms, indicating we have two mixes on every motherboard> However, we are not able to fulfill the double connection. We also have a part of our experience infrastructure, but instead of 25 gigabit, it functions on 10 gigabit. Sometimes, during evenings or on Fridays, we use Rubrik for protection when we run it. When Rubrik works against Dell PowerStore and MongoDB, along with SQL Server, we noticed that PowerStore's QLC is normal while its CPU and compression levels are good. But, we do face a delay in CAPA and the server. So definitely, we noticed that maybe we need to upgrade everything to 25 gigabit, and still, if it doesn't work, then we may consider FortiGate's networking. Dell Compellent was our storage before, and now we are pushing the Ethernet to the maximum with PowerStore.

I use it to solve a problem for a customer when he has a big VMware ESX environment with virtualization. You can solve a big problem with money or a lot of hardware since you can take the virtualization from PowerStore. Inside PowerStore, on the operating system level, you can use virtualization with VMware ESX or something like it. So, you don't need any hardware.

My company does backups and security. We use a lot of OEMs. We use Dell because they have the strongest product, especially in Israel.

Hybrid environments are very important for our disaster recovery issues. By default, we have 50% to the public cloud, with either Azure or AWS, and 50% on-prem. If it is on-prem, then it is a PowerStore. In Israel, 90% is deployed on-premises.

PowerStore is used in Israeli universities since they have big environments with a lot of vendors. They take all the versions from the 500 to the 3000. It is also used in IT companies with 1,000 or 2,000 employees that have a lot of traffic with heavy loads. There are a lot of people in Israel who love to work with Dell.

I use Dell PowerStore in my organization mainly for our server environment, so all of our virtual servers run on it. I also use Dell PowerStore in my organization to clone our environment to a test environment and some storage devices. The aforementioned details explain the main reason why our organization prefers Dell PowerStore.

Our company partners with the solution to offer customers storage as a service. We currently use the solution internally for our data center and to conduct tests or demos.

We have not yet used the solution for customers because product lead time is slow and long.

We have two appliances — a primary and a secondary — and they are synchronized, so all the volumes are replicated. If the primary appliance goes down, we can get functions on the other side. When it's writing on one side, writing is disabled on the other side. In the event of disaster recovery, we can enable writing, and then we can do anything from there.

We use it for machines from VMware vCenter which we keep separate from the PowerStore. It is only the storage. They are connected with iSCSI and NFS. We have no virtual machines directly on the PowerStore.

We do a lot of cloning of databases for either troubleshooting or to stage and prepare implementation. We are a SaaS provider in the real estate industry and we're either using the PowerStore to help expedite things in our development environment, or we're using it to help troubleshoot any problems that we have.

We have north of 13 petabytes of storage in our environment.

PowerStore is joined to four application servers in a cluster. We're running an application that we use to monitor our activity in the financial markets. We collect all the data from the market—books, trades, orders—that we send to the market. In terms of volume, we are collecting about 100 million rows a day for the books, 10 million a day for the orders, and about 500 rows for public trades.

It is a mission-critical application because of compliance and the regulators. We have to maintain this kind of monitoring because it's a direct link to our activity in the regulated market.

Most of our PowerStore units are used for VMware VMs and vSphere. We migrated the VMs from our Unity storage.

We have two sites; the data center site (DC) and the disaster recovery (DR) site. We only use the PowerStore on the DC site. The project was put on hold due to COVID but we plan to continue with it this year.

The use case for this solution is based on VMware and that is why we chose PowerStore X. During the first period of the pandemic, we decided to use our VMware infrastructure for HPC workloads. We were looking for high-performance storage that could be inserted inside our VMware environment in an easy way. PowerStore, which had just been announced, seemed like the right solution and so we decided to buy. We have this storage environment inside the virtual HPC.

In our environment we are doing medical analysis related to genomic workloads. The data are acquired remotely from experiments and stored on the PowerStore. The PowerStore is exposed to the user through virtual machines, and the data are analyzed in this environment.
