I have been using Dell PowerProtect Data Domain for three years and a half, and it has delivered excellent reliability and deduplication efficiency and backup performance. The platform is stable, scalable, and integrates smoothly with our enterprise backup environment, which is Veeam. It has many replication and disaster recovery capabilities that are particularly valuable for maintaining business continuity. Deployment and licensing can be complex, but the overall experience has been highly positive.
Dell PowerProtect Data Domain is good for long-term backup retention. Banks tend to have long-term backup retention policies, some for three years and others for five years. The efficiency is fast, and it all comes down to whether the configuration is set up properly and tuned. It performs well for retention, recovery, restoration, and availability, along with its functionality and scalability.
The data reduction capabilities of Dell PowerProtect Data Domain all-flash solution are the main interesting feature. The deduplication technology differs from one system to another. For example, some systems may show 20x deduplication, while others show less or more, depending on the type of data stored, the complexity of the data, and the type of operating system that hosts it. The overall performance is perfect.

Dell PowerProtect Data Domain has a protocol which is a very good protocol. With the help of that particular OST protocol, we can take the backup in a very fast manner over the FC. That appliance is very good in comparison to HP StoreOnce. We can restore the data in a very minimal time because the data is transferring over the FC protocol, which is 32Gbps. I always recommend it to others who have huge data and they are continuously taking the backup onto external devices.
Dell PowerProtect Data Domain data backup transfer throughput and deduplication are exceptional because it works on the variable blocks. When we are using variable blocks, we can take the backup in a very fast manner and then we can save the storage space due to the deduplication functionality. The deduplication is very good, with a 20:1 ratio of deduplication, which is not available in other solutions such as HP.
The benefit of Dell PowerProtect Data Domain is that we are storing the data in a very small footprint. Huge data can be stored in a very small storage capacity because the deduplication and the compression ratio is very good. This is the beauty. We do not need to spend more money, and then we can achieve cost saving at the drive level.
Dell PowerProtect Data Domain is a perfect solution. I don't think we have to make any improvement to it. It is completely perfect for the enterprise-class customers. It is not meant for the smaller customer. When the data size is huge, it is always good for them to store the data in the terabyte or petabyte form.
Dell PowerProtect Data Domain can be integrated with other third-party backup software. We can integrate it with Commvault, we can integrate it with Veritas, we can integrate it with Veeam backup solutions, or Dell's own solution as well. It is a very good solution to integrate with others.
It is reducing the backup window since the backup transfer rate is very high, so we can complete the backup in very minimal time. The data is always transferring in a very fast manner over the iSCSI, FC protocol, iSCSI protocol, NFS protocol, or CIFS protocol as well. It depends on the customer environment. It can be easily fitted in their environment and then transfer the data for a shorter period of retention and a longer period of retention.
The data reduction policy is supposed to be 20:1. It is supposed to have a very good deduplication and compression ratio.

Dell PowerProtect Data Domain is one of my favorite products from Dell, so it's difficult for me to answer with just one particular feature. However, the ease of use and ease of management stand out. DDMC makes life easy, and the setup process is straightforward. The ability to monitor live performance as it streams allows me to know exactly if something is wrong with my machine and what commands to run. The graphical user interface is just as good as the CLI. As an old-school CLI user, I love the CLI with Dell PowerProtect Data Domain, and those are my favorite things.
That is an important consideration. We are developing our cyber response by taking best practices from Dell and applying those to Dell PowerProtect Data Domain to ensure they are hardened as much as possible. To be honest, we rely on our resilience and our speed to recover. That is a big key for us, and Dell PowerProtect Data Domain has always held that end of the bargain up for us.

The biggest advantages in Dell PowerProtect Data Domain are security, cybersecurity, cyber resiliency, and the deduplication ratio. The deduplication technology in Dell PowerProtect Data Domain is very powerful compared to the competition.
Regarding the analytics part, we have a dashboard with a significant amount of details, and this now includes Cloud IQ, which is named AIOps. It collects telemetry data and starts using a cloud or an AI-based engine to provide suggestions based on user behavior or how the device is functioning.
When it comes to the backup and recovery performance in terms of speed and reliability, Dell PowerProtect Data Domain uses an in-line deduplication method and SSDs for caching. The ingest power or throughput is huge compared to writing to a regular disk. For customers with a short backup window and a huge amount of data, I suggest Dell PowerProtect Data Domain, as deduplication means that only new unique data is written rather than rewriting full data. The deduplication engine is friendly for backup data's nature of generating duplicates weekly, which helps save space and leads to faster backups.

The best features of Dell PowerProtect Data Domain include its ability to protect compressed information in storage, its security, and the new security capabilities for this product, where information is encrypted in storage. It is not possible for attacks from ransomware or hackers to compromise the system. In Peru, this product is very important, and all clients comment on this feature. The product is expensive, but the information is secure. Clients balance this situation, understanding that it represents a price point for this product.
When comparing Dell PowerProtect Data Domain with other products, the deduplication feature stands out as the best feature. The deduplication is very compressed, and this is a necessary feature that requires the best hardware, memory, and processor. This deduplication process is very fast. View full review »Dell PowerProtect Data Domain has multiple valuable functions. The DD Boost protocol is very fast in backup and while data is being transferred to Dell PowerProtect Data Domain. It is a very fast protocol. Additionally, I am using the immutability features built-in in Dell PowerProtect Data Domain, so that the backup copies are immutable. No one can edit or delete them anymore unless the retention period is over. I think those two functions are the best in Dell PowerProtect Data Domain.
The main benefits I receive from Dell PowerProtect Data Domain save time for me because of the time of backup. For example, I have reduced the backup window. Once I began working with Dell PowerProtect Data Domain, it is very fast storage, especially while the backup is being taken. The backup window has been reduced by more than 30%. In my case, I am moving data over the WAN. The speed of the backup has reduced the bandwidth and the time being taken, resulting in cost reduction. From a pricing point of view, I think it is sufficient and good for me. It is the most reasonable option for my case.

The most valuable feature of Dell PowerProtect DD (Data Domain) is its deduplication capability. This feature is crucial for our customers as it allows them to have more storage space for backup jobs.
Additionally, the integration with Dell EMC arrays and storage snapshot backup functionalities are key elements, enabling efficient daily and nightly backups of sensitive ERP or applications.
View full review »It increases uptime and compatibility with our product and other third-party backup solutions. It offers ease of integration with any of our backup systems. The software provides a reliable backup and recovery process, making it easy to integrate into that area. We have encountered very few issues, only about 1% with our data domain storage, which required an engineer to address a hardware problem.
An additional advantage is the compression provided. The front-end and back-end capacity we gain significantly reduces our total ownership cost. In most cases, we achieve a compression ratio of more than 2.5:1. For example, if we purchase 100 terabytes of storage, we can store 250 terabytes of data.
It can be effective if we design the backup solution correctly, focusing on online backups with Data Domain and not heavily on archival data. For instance, I’m working with a customer with nine petabytes of archival data.
View full review »Dell PowerProtect Data Domain provides data duplication. For backup technology, we take the same backup every day. The only difference should be the differential thing, whatever is added on the same day. If we take a full backup, the difference is only for one day.
The solution provides the best deduplication and compression ratio with respect to backups. Two to three organizations I worked in use Data Domain due to this great feature of deduplication and compression.
The solution allows us to take a huge number of backups, and the footprint is quite small. The speed and throughput we get are very good. We can take a backup of 16 terabytes in 20 minutes, depending on our connectivity. Dell PowerProtect Data Domain is the best product in the market right now.
It provides data protection and network cloud.

The product, a disk backup solution, improves our data application tasks. We used tape libraries with Dev drives in legacy architectures, resulting in slow backups compared to modern drives like NVMe and SSDs. By transitioning to NVMe and SSDs, backups have become much faster. The tool's backup restoration is faster compared to other tools.
The tool's most valuable feature for data protection strategies is defining backup policies with specific retention periods. For example, if we take monthly backups, we can establish a one-year retention period. Additionally, we can also use incremental or differential backup methods.
In terms of performance, Dell PowerProtect DD outperforms other data protection solutions we've used, such as Veritas and HPE Data Protector. From our experience, Dell PowerProtect DD stands out as the best option available in the market.
The tool supports our business continuity process since we can back up the data.
DD's deduplication technology is valuable because it partially offloads deduplication on the client and backup server while the rest happens on the data domain. The deduplication is 65 times more than other products.

The Dell PowerProtect DD architecture offers several significant features. One is DD Boost, which is utilized at both the source and destination sites for application processing. By employing DD Boost, the backup process is offloaded to the server side, efficiently utilizing network resources.
Additionally, the Data Domain incorporates a Global Deduplication feature. This feature allows Data Domain to deduplicate all data streams simultaneously, enabling more efficient utilization of backup space within the Data Domain system.
View full review »Deduplication and compression are the best features of the solution, which are popular and very effective.
View full review »The most valuable features of Dell PowerProtect DD are reduplication and compression. It provides a lot of data savings for backups. Additionally, the Dell PowerProtect DD solution offers a bundled backup software and storage option. If desired, users can also connect to cloud technology to create an additional copy of their data in the cloud. This solution supports synchronization with various cloud vendors, including Azure and AWS.
Using Dell PowerProtect DD eliminates the need for multiple management consoles and devices to run a backup solution. Traditionally, a backup server is needed to install backup software and connect to a storage unit or tape library to store backup data. However, Dell PowerProtect DD includes the storage option and software, providing a consolidated solution in a single device.
The solution is designed for change. With new updates, it adapts to work with new edge applications, such as Kubernetes containers and can support these applications during the backup process. This means that users do not need to seek out alternative backup solutions for their Kubernetes and container applications in the future.

The specific algorithms of backups of the data deduplication are very good. For example, some of our competitors need much more space. When we have to use one additional enclosure, they have to use two times more. Data Domain has a lot of space.
The technology has been very useful. There are lots of features on offer.
It's very competitive. We get discounts on pricing and find the cost to be quite good.
The solution is stable and reliable.
It is scalable.
This product has a lot of good features.
It has the most powerful deduplication and compression for data backup. Data consumes a lot of storage capacity, but with Data Domain, it splits the data into many chunks. The data is managed with smart architecture and algorithms, saving between 80% and 90% from the target capacity. This means that for every tier of capacity, it may reflect 20 times that, which is remarkable.
Data Domain has good data regulation features to prevent data corruption. Frequently with other products, users face data corruption. Data Domain always generates a hash from the target backup data and compares it with the hash of the data in production. This is done to make sure that the data is identical. If it detects a problem then it will rebuild the data on its own. This is why I recommend people make sure that they have a valid backup. In case of a crisis, it will restore and things will continue to function well.
This solution has a feature called Domain Boost, which allows for source deduplication and compression. Backup data consumes a very heavy amount of traffic because you are transferring almost all of your production data across the network to the backup appliance. By using Domain Boost, it supports source deduplication and compression, so you are only transferring a very slight amount of data across the network. This will assure very rapid data backup, guaranteeing RPO and RTO.

What I like about Dell EMC PowerProtect DD (Data Domain) is that it is a performance technology.
One of the features I find very interesting in this product is deduplication.
I also find it valuable that it's very easy to communicate with just one vendor if you're using this product. Normally, with other security systems, CAP systems, etc., you have to use the server, some hardware, and some software. The server could be from one vendor, while the software could be from another vendor. When a problem arises, this means you have to communicate with more than one vendor, but with Dell EMC PowerProtect DD (Data Domain), this is not the case. The only competitor I know that manufactures a similar product with this feature of one vendor communication is Symantec.
The most valuable feature is the inline data deduplication.

The solution integrates well with our VM.
I like the hardware and the software together.
Based on what we have achieved in our environments on the bank's telecom, it's the best product. We have it installed with Dell EMC protection suite, NetWorker, but also with VM. There are many cases where we integrated with IBM TSM as a VTL.
The best point is the duplication encryption and disaster recovery replication. The network replication's software has network verification where the product can not offer it. We use nothing for Data Domain replication. And when we use NetWorker, we use prone console application. With VM, also we use replication under the Data Domain application instead of copying the data from the VM.

The reliability of Data Domain was the most useful feature to me. Every piece of data is recorded multiple times in several devices in a cluster. If any hardware failure occurs, it does not impact the data and does not result in any data loss. Resilience and reliability under any circumstances are important to data security.

The feature that is most valuable is the Data Domain Boost. With the DD Boost, it takes minimal time to clone very large data over WAN to the DR site with a very reasonable bandwidth. Over 1.5 TB of data is cloned every day. The cloning process is seamless.
