Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature of New Relic APM is the dashboard, New Relic Insights. I configured my own dashboard to monitor certain parameters.""The feature I found most valuable is being able to design my queries. It's easy to design a query.""The most valuable features are the dashboards and tracing.""The most valuable features of New Relic are the reports and ease of use.""As New Relic is already integrated with Drupal, we can get our projects done with best practice and with the best value that we believe in.""It is stable and scalable.""The synthetic alert is the most valuable feature in New Relic APM. I also like the time travel feature and find traceability useful in the solution. New Relic APM also has good response times.""The most valuable feature of New Relic is its ease of use."

"The solution is stable and reliable.""The solution's service map feature allows us to have a holistic overview and to see quickly where the issues are.""I like the fact that Splunk APM makes it easy to connect to the application database and run queries against the data.""The most valuable features are troubleshooting and optimizing application performance.""It is a good tool. It allows you to set alerts for application and infrastructure monitoring, and it allows you to create dashboards.""The features are pretty much ready out of the box.""The most beneficial aspect of Slunk APM is the ATM, which is the map displaying the inbound and outbound relationships of the microservices, as well as the traffic between these dependencies. Cons
"I think that there have been some questionable product enhancements. Over a year ago, New Relic rolled out a new navigation that really disrupted our workflow.""The browser isn't exactly reliable.""It is very difficult to award the service level cycles at an endpoint level.""There has been some problem with the agent, and it is just not working well. It is not able to record information with the application server. They have been able to fix the issue, but it took quite a long time. This is the main issue in the APM products and also in New Relic. The mobile application monitoring has been pretty difficult to set up and also quite expensive. It should be a little bit easier and cheaper. Because it is pretty difficult and expensive, many customers don't take it.""New Relic APM can improve the information when we dig deeper to check a problem. There should be more detailed information provided.""It would help customers if there were an on-premises version available.""New Relic APM could improve error debugging and the correlation with the logs. We are receiving some alerts or alarms but we need to correlate with the error log, but it is difficult if it is more than seven months retention period, it is hard to trace. We need this especially for getting historical information.""They could improve the education process and how people understand that these tools are very technical. Right now, if someone was to pick it up from day one, it is a very steep learning curve."

"The UI enhancements could be a way to improve the solution in the future.""The licensing model is expensive. We need to monitor the amount of data ingested because the cost is based on the data collected.""Splunk APM's performance could be improved - at the moment, it's very slow and takes forever to give me what I want.""The cardinality is pretty low.""We currently lack log analysis capabilities in Splunk APM.""It is essential for the monitoring tool to deliver quick response times when generating analytical reports, instead of prolonged delays.""Splunk APM should include a better correlation between resources and infrastructure monitoring.""I've been using the Splunk query language, and it can be a bit time-consuming to set up the queries I need."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "New Relic is either free with low retention and minimal functionalities, or expensive with full options and retention."
  • "The monthly cost os $1000 per server per month, but it could be even more. We pay about $250 for the server, and then New Relic wants over $1000 to give us statistics on those servers."
  • "Cost is significant with a lot of extras."
  • "It would be nice if we could buy it annually instead of monthly."
  • "If it’s the right tool, it doesn’t matter what it costs because you’re going to get it back many-fold from your productivity."
  • "I recommend using the free version of New Relic. If you like the free version and understand its importance for your company, you can move to the trial. Then, you can migrate to the paid version."
  • "There is a picture which goes to your browser and it monitors requests from other users. However, it's impossible to use now because the price is very high. The feature is very nice, but I tried it during the trial period, and the current price makes it impossible to use."
  • "They gave us aggressive discounts when they were brought in for the first time, but they have also kept them for the year-on-year renewals, which has been absolutely fine."

  • "The price of Slunk APM is less than some of its competitors."
