I was originally using a solution from Symantec. However, when Broadcom bought them out, the support was horrific and I had to drop the product.
How was the initial setup?
This product is very easy to deploy. If you know how to work with your MX records and email, it's easy. We have not needed support of any kind.
What about the implementation team?
We set it up ourselves as soon as we got it.
It doesn't require much maintenance. I sparingly administrate it. For example, I look at a couple of things but I don't have
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Price-wise, this product is middle-of-the-road. I'm sure that there are cheaper solutions.
I suggest negotiating either at the end of their fiscal year or at the end of every quarter. At the end of the quarter, they have an incentive to lower the prices to sell as many units as possible in order to meet their end-of-quarter quota.
What other advice do I have?
Barracuda is one of my favorite vendors. They are top-notch.

The solution's most valuable feature is impersonation detection. This feature helps users determine whether an email is legitimate because the tool scans it before it reaches the user. The solution helps identify a person impersonating another person, a decision-maker, or a CEO.
Barracuda Email Protection has one technology called Sentinel that helps stop various email threats, such as spam, impersonation, phishing attacks, and spoofing attacks.
What needs improvement?
The technology works on a supervised engine, but it would be better if it ran on an unsupervised engine.

Barracuda Essentials is used for anyone that wants to protect their email. It helps with protecting against spam, malware, and encrypting your email messages. This is an option with all the email messages. They have other add-ons which use artificial intelligence to protect you against fishing attempts.
They have employee training against email phishing attempts. There are nice packages of other options that can be added to Barracuda Essentials.

There's not a whole lot of complexity, you want a solution that is very good at blocking out all of the unwanted emails.
Barracuda Essentials is doing a good job at adding more features. They have a solution that will, through artificial intelligence, track email messages, and determine who's trying to spoof your emails. This is provided by the Advanced package of the solution.
You want the ability to manage your own inbox and be able to whitelist and blacklist various email messages, they have a good user management interface for doing that. The people that are managing this can see harmful messages from a central console.
What needs improvement?
Barracuda Essentials can improve by continually adding more features.

I have been using Barracuda Essentials for approximately three years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Barracuda Essentials is highly scalable, we can scale it up into the thousands.
Barracuda Essentials does a very good job for both mid-market and enterprise clients. We've been deploying it across small, mid-size, and a number of enterprise clients.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support is fabulous we work with them a lot. I have found the support exceptional.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is simple, it can be done within 15 to 30 minutes.
What about the implementation team?
We will deploy the Barracuda Essentials, and then based on what the client's staffing size is in their IT department, they will either manage it or ask us to manage it. It all depends upon the level of staffing that they have.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Barracuda Essentials is ranked on all of the various surveys, very high against Microsoft, Mimecast, Proofpoint, and Barracuda's right at the top of the list. Traditionally, when they do these surveys, Barracuda's very high.
What other advice do I have?
My advice to others is, if they look at the entire package that Barracuda has, which includes Essentials, it includes a product called Sentinel, and PhishLine. If you take those three things, they are now renamed and called Premium. I don't see any other email security solution that stacks up against them.
