Apache Web Server Valuable Features

I find valuable and beneficial the independence that comes with Apache Web Server. You can build a small project using a simple application server without bothering too much about how to manage it.

The compatibility with multiple operating systems has helped my operations since most of the time we use Linux. Some systems rely on Windows, but they are few; in the past, Windows was the dominant operating system for mainstream PCs and infrastructure, but not for business. All the companies I worked for had 90% Linux and maybe up to 10% Windows.

The initial setup of Apache Web Server was straightforward and okay.

Apache Web Server is itself a complete product for applications. There are endless features in the solution. The HTTP server characteristics of the solution are a vital feature. The Apache Web Server can be used to create an in-house application server. The product can also be used to build a website. WordPress and PHP sites also require Apache Web Server to operate.

Apache Web Server can be used as a proxy server and some applications can only run on an Apache Web Server.

Most of the features I liked were related to the performance during peak hours. Because I needed to optimize the Apache web server to run it as a high performer during my customers' usage, then I needed to reduce my Apache web server resource usage for that. So that part of the thing is what I was more interested in doing.

So, I mainly liked the performance and security.

The modularity of the application is good. It allows us to use a modular approach, meaning that not all features are hard-coded inside the application, but we can use modules so that these features can be enabled or disabled. If we don't want to use some features, we don't load or enable them inside the configuration file.

Depending on what operating system you are using, you can have a website up in no time using Apache web server. Very easy to install on multiple platforms.90% of our web servers are using Apache, I like the fact that there is no management interface, so that we can minimize system resources when it comes to large scale deployments. As Apache is opensource the community is great when it comes to documentation and troubleshooting problems. The Apache Web Server is our software of choice for running our web servers for the past seven (7) years. It's clearly one of the best open-source projects in world, as its continuing existence and use is a testament to how great this software is.There have been numerous web server software that has come out in the recent years like Nginx and lhttpd, but the Apache web server has remained as the web server of choice for a lot of organizations world-wide.What I like about the Apache Web Server is that it just simply works. It's very easy to set-up and configure, and you can have a website up in a few minutes. Furthermore, it supports a lot of web scripting languages which even made it more popular. View full review »
