What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Alteryx is a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of Alteryx is good.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support from Alteryx is good.
I rate the support from Alteryx a four out of five.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup of Alteryx was straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
The amount of people needed for the implementation depends on the use case. It can vary from one to five data engineers and data scientists, but if it is a very large project, you might need 10 people involved. It all varies on the size of the project and the use cases.
What was our ROI?
There have been cases where people were building some data pipeline manually or building some reports manually, and they used to take one month. After the implementation of Alteryx, the turnaround time has been reduced to 10 minutes or maybe in some cases, a couple of minutes. If the timeframe or effort is coming down from one month and with multiple persons working to a couple of minutes automated, there is a huge volume of ROI.
What other advice do I have?
My advice to others is before implementing the Alteryx, they need to be very sure about their use case. Based on the use case, they should plan the implementation.
I rate Alteryx seven out of ten.

Speeds up the time to obtain business answers/insights on data
Pros and Cons
- "Shortens the time required to start analyzing data and looking for insights, minimizing the tasks that do not add value to the business and maximizing the analysis phase."
- "Alteryx speeds up the time to obtain business answers/insights on data."
- "It is one of the most complete and great customer service that I experienced with a software company/ecosystem."
- "Even when it already includes some AI models, this area could be improved."
- "It would be great to create the final users' visualization within Alteryx."
What is our primary use case?
- Data acquisition, accessing all types of data services no matter the format, vendor or platform, I can connect, read and process the data.
- Data blending and descriptive, creating consolidated data sets, such as joins, unions, summarize, and all basic and advanced data manipulation tasks.
- Advanced analytics, like predictive and prescriptive analysis, which are very good tools.
- Preparation
It involves reading multiple data sources, in different formats, reshaping and blending them together to answer business questions. We generate models for predictions and optimization.
How has it helped my organization?
Alteryx speeds up the time to obtain business answers/insights on data. It can quickly process huge amounts of data. It allows you to have your business prepare their own data sets, and it can even be used by IT people. The speed of processing is impressive to get something in minutes that would normally take you a couple of days or weeks.
Shortens the time required to start analyzing data and looking for insights, minimizing the tasks that do not add value to the business and maximizing the analysis phase.
What is most valuable?
- The codeless concept and speed of processing are unique. Super intuitive to use and easy to master. No coder needed.
- I did not find a data source that I could not connect to yet.
- In/out, preparation, blending, parsing, and transformation tools are the fundamental ones to start analysis.
- Spatial operations and analytics are super powerful for analysis which requires these types of models/operations.
What needs improvement?
Even when it already includes some AI models, this area could be improved.
Another area which could be improved is the visualizations. It would be great to create the final users' visualization within Alteryx.
Finally, the UI does not reflects the amazing tool Alteryx is.
For how long have I used the solution?
Three to five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is absolutely stable. It has not crashed. It takes seconds to process huge amounts of data without too many resources on the machine.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
There are no scalability issues. It is enterprise ready, and can multiple your processing power.
How are customer service and support?
It is one of the most complete and great customer service that I experienced with a software company/ecosystem.
The customer support is fast, complete and proficient. The partner ecosystem is extensive, and all have a couple of very advanced resources to provide support.
Finally, Alteryx has an online community (Check it out at http://community.alteryx.com ), with a lot of people willing to help users.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I used several ETL tools, but none had the scope of Alteryx nor the ability to perform the analysis itself.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very straightforward using a wizard.
Next, Next, Next, OK process. Super easy, intuitive, and problem-free.
What about the implementation team?
Both vendor team and in-house. In all cases, it was a straightforward experience. The vendor was very proficient and Alteryx always had our backs.
What was our ROI?
ROI is huge. There are some secondary benefits, like analysts getting their post 5 PM time back or the ability to shorten all closing processes to a half or less.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Opt for the three year subscription. It is 20% less than the yearly one.
It is $4,000 a year, so it is cheap versus other solutions. It also accomplishes three times the volume on the job in the same time (as the other solutions).
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I evaluated Datawatch and QlikView.
Datawatch: Performance was not great and it was not so straightforward to implement.
What other advice do I have?
Download the trial and test it. You will be amazed. It is the complete package for people who work with data.
Most important criteria when selecting a vendor:
- Provide a good product.
- Have good support.
- Needs a clear vision of the future with a very solid roadmap.

Excellent support and robust data features
Pros and Cons
- "The feature that I have found most valuable for Alteryx is its geo-referencing feature, it is very good. I use it a lot, especially for supply chain."
- "There could be a bit of improvement related to performance. Sometimes it demands a lot of resources for running it, like memory and search."
What is our primary use case?
I'm a reseller, so I have plenty of use cases. I don't have my own use cases. I actually solve problems for other customers. We have a few use cases with Alteryx - one for supply chain and one for finance as a whole. There is a very large amount of use cases for finance.
What is most valuable?
The feature that I have found most valuable for Alteryx is its geo-referencing feature, it is very good. I use it a lot, especially for supply chain. For finance, we have data landing which we look at a lot. There are models to help improve matching data and more realistic intuition on the data we have.
It is very easy. It is very straightforward. Sometimes you need a bit of help, but it's more like it fixes itself. So if you are used to handling data, it should be very, very easy.
What needs improvement?
There could be a bit of improvement related to performance. Sometimes it demands a lot of resources for running it, like memory and search. One thing that I would like to see is the ability to get all the versions. Currently we have just the current version and the previous version. Sometimes they have no old workflows. They will run and they are in previous versions but we don't have access to it. It would be helpful to have an opportunity to download, maybe not the first one, but a couple past versions that have been useful.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been an Alteryx reseller for four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Alteryx is a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Alteryx is a scalable solution.
How are customer service and support?
Support is very good. They even go beyond what is expected of the basic support for the product itself. Often we see that they going beyond that and providing solutions for the issues that go beyond the product itself. They try to help customers with the data. So I think it's a really good support and I have had amazing experience with them.
How was the initial setup?
The number of people involved in the initial setup depends on the size of the deployment. It is usually very few compared to other solutions. You don't even need special resources, so anyone can do. Even if it is on a server, anyone that knows it can repair the server, keep it running, and deploy any solutions. I think it's very straightforward, even to deploy larger solutions.
It takes between one and three people to deploy, but they don't need to be technicians, that's the cool thing.
What other advice do I have?
For anyone considering Alteryx, I would say go for it. Trust that there is a really good set of not just in-company support, but also a lot nice and very decent resellers and partners that can help you do anything you want. Overall, if you are looking for data management, if you need to improve your ability to blend data and to get insights out of data, Alteryx is the way to go.
On a scale of one to ten, I would give Alteryx a nine.

Solutions Engineer at a computer software company with 201-500 employees
Scalable, reliable, and good technical support
Pros and Cons
- "The solution has been stable."
- "The solution could improve in the visualization."
What is our primary use case?
I have multiple clients that are using this solution and the use cases can be very specific to the domain they are coming from.
I am an Alteryx designer and I have been trying to fine-tune the operations. Most recently I have been getting more involved with predictive analytics. I am transitioning from the ETL to an advanced analytics platform and then doing the seamless integration with the BI tools. These are the areas I have been exploring and currently, I am only working on use cases that are very specific to this area.
What needs improvement?
The solution could improve in the visualization. There is a reporting palette available, but I do not think organizations would rely just on that one pallet. We need a BI tool for larger implementation reporting. The visualization cannot just be the basic visualization but immediate reporting.
When comparing this solutions' BI tool to major competitors, such as Tableau and Power BI, the competitors both massively use visualization and dashboarding whereas this solution does not. However, this solution is much further ahead in other areas, for example, deployment. When it comes to just the visualization it not fair to compare these solutions.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution within the last 12 months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution has been stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
What I know of the solution it can scale very well.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have not used support very much in the past. However, during the one or two cases when we had to use the support, we received a solution from them promptly.
How was the initial setup?
The installation is fairly simple and straightforward. We had no issues with the implementation.
What about the implementation team?
Previously I have used consultants for the implementation but I can now do it myself.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
There is a license required for this solution.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have previously evaluated Tableau and Power BI.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution to others.
I rate Alteryx an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Good connector feature and we can include custom scripts; deep learning models not supported
Pros and Cons
- "The connectors are a very good feature."
- "Deep learning models are not currently supported."
What is our primary use case?
The primary use case of this solution is mainly for advanced analytics, including some bison-scripts for the machine learning on data, as well as data cleaning and data processing activities.
What is most valuable?
The connectors are a very good feature and Alteryx can connect to a lot of data sources and there are a lot of options. We can use the ready-made models in the solution for advanced analytics, and we can also include our custom scripts. It gives a lot of flexibility and there are a lot of characters that are available. It's a very user friendly product.
What needs improvement?
The deep learning models are not currently supported by Alteryx. The world is moving towards more advanced machine learning with deep learning models and integration, and Alteryx should do the same. The advanced features are not there, given that most companies are constantly increasing the size of data. Alteryx is not very robust when it comes to working on large sets of data. The new platforms that are coming onto the market, even the open source technologies, are moving really fast. Alteryx needs to find an edge.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for at least a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This product is quite stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
There's room for improvement with the scalability aspect, because the size of data always increases and it is not an optimal solution for processing large sets of data. For a smaller data size it works really well. Our developers work with Alteryx and we have close to 10 users. We don't have plans to extend usage.
How are customer service and technical support?
I've only had one contact with technical support and they were very responsive.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was easy. Alteryx is a drag and drop tool so the deployment was quick. It doesn't require a lot of scripting.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Licensing is on an annual basis but I don't work in procurement so I have no idea of the cost.
What other advice do I have?
Any company considering a data processing platform which is light, offers good flexibility, and deals with moderate or low sized data, will find this is a really good spend. If, on the other hand, you're working on big data and a higher volume of data, this may not be the right choice for you.
I rate this solution a seven out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Stable with no-code analytics capability, but needs Linux support, better pricing, and better response from their US partner management program team
Pros and Cons
- "The philosophy of the citizen data scientist is the key piece, which means the no-code analytics capability. This is the feature that attracted us the most."
- "It should have Linux support. It currently supports only Windows. It does not support any other platform. Its price should also be lower. Their US partner management program is actually unresponsive. One of the reasons why we don't have a formalized partnership plan with them is because their partner management team is atrociously unresponsive. This is something that they need to change."
What is our primary use case?
We have several Alteryx certified analysts on our team, and we serve customers who want Alteryx. We don't use it in our company.
What is most valuable?
The philosophy of the citizen data scientist is the key piece, which means the no-code analytics capability. This is the feature that attracted us the most.
What needs improvement?
It should have Linux support. It currently supports only Windows. It does not support any other platform. Its price should also be lower.
Their US partner management program is actually unresponsive. One of the reasons why we don't have a formalized partnership plan with them is because their partner management team is atrociously unresponsive. This is something that they need to change.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for a little over a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We are currently using it in environments with fairly low operational needs. For our clients, it is more of an analytics workflow rather than a production workflow. The scalability requirement has not really come up for us in practice.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have worked with RapidMiner in the past. I am also familiar with a few other solutions that came to me. We are also exploring a partnership with DataRobot. There are a lot of overlaps between products. We have also used a few analytics products.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Its price should be lower. The key thing that we see is that talking about ROI is an important element at the time of purchase. Cost becomes a factor in every discussion. Justifying the ROI for these kinds of workflows is always a challenge, and the only way to counter the challenge is by addressing the pricing.
What other advice do I have?
If a customer already has a data engineering and analytics team, I would lean towards RapidMiner and DataRobot, depending on the specific need of the customer. If they want more AI, I would recommend DataRobot. If they want more analytics and data, I would go with RapidMiner. If they don't have a data engineering and analytics team and they're starting something afresh, or if they have a capacity issue with the analytics team, then I would recommend Alteryx. Alteryx works out pretty okay if they don't have a sufficient number of qualified data and analytics people because it goes with the philosophy of citizen data scientists.
I would rate Alteryx a seven out of ten.

Has a good scheduler, and offers very good Rtools for machine learning
Pros and Cons
- "The product's Macros probably are one of the most useful aspects."
- "Sometimes workflows tend to queue up, and they tend to get canceled for some reason that we don't know sometimes."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution for automation, data cleansing, QA, some data science and machine learning software for the company.
What is most valuable?
The product's Macros probably are one of the most useful aspects. It's obviously useful overall if you just combine all the tools, however, in terms of usability, the Macros really stand out.
Using the Alteryx scheduler, and the use of Rtools for machine learning is very helpful.
These are all a bit more advanced, in terms of tools, however, they make for a very good user experience.
What needs improvement?
We've had a lot of issues within the Alteryx Server. It really could be improved.
There are memory management issues in terms of the Mongo database that they manage. There could be a better user interface for the gallery, which is where we automate the workflows.
Sometimes workflows tend to queue up, and they tend to get canceled for some reason that we don't know sometimes.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for five years at this point.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is okay. It's good on the designer, however, it could be better on the server.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
In terms of scalability, the server is quite scalable, however, the designer is not.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was easy, overall. It's easy to use and easy to learn and you don't have to be a data scientist or an engineer to use it. It makes the setup very straightforward, as the overall design is very approachable.
The deployment likely took us about two to three months to set up. It was five years ago now, and therefore it's difficult to recall.
What about the implementation team?
We mostly handled the initial setup ourselves. We didn't hire consultants or integrators.
What other advice do I have?
We're just a customer and end-user. We don't have a business relationship with the company.
We have an Alteryx server, and we also use the desktop version or the designer version on our workspaces, which are hosted on the cloud.
In general, I would rate the solution at an eight out of ten. We've been mostly happy with it, however, there are areas in which is could improve.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Multiple database merging, easy install, and stable
Pros and Cons
- "I think the most valuable feature for Alteryx in a health facility is that it permits cleaning, organizing, and merging of databases such as Excel and Access."
- "The interface could be improved."
What is our primary use case?
I am the head of investigation on-site, I use the solution every day for merging and other management of records. I also export data to individuals that need the information we store, such as facilitators.
How has it helped my organization?
The solution allows us to manage our databases data.
What is most valuable?
I think the most valuable feature for Alteryx in a health facility is that it permits cleaning, organizing, and merging of databases such as Excel and Access. This is very valuable for us since we have many databases.
What needs improvement?
The interface could be improved. Currently, when you are looking at the information on the screen it is broken down into three parts of the screen. For example, when doing algorithms and you want to see the results on the screen this is when it gets really difficult to view. However, this is fine visually to work with on a big screen but when you are working with a laptop screen it is not very comfortable. Everything is very small.
You have to know to use it. You have to have some training and it's hard. This could improve.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for approximately 10 months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have not had any issue with the stability of the solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Since I only have one license to use the solution it is difficult to know about the potential scalability.
How was the initial setup?
The setup is really easy.
What about the implementation team?
The install took approximately 35 minutes.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The license is really expensive, we cannot afford to have two or three. It takes away all the budget of my area.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend the solution 100%. I really think it is a better platform than competitors.
I rate Alteryx a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
