A flexible backup solution for our VR infrastructure
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features are the flexibility and stability of the product."
  • "I would like to have more flexibility in terms of reporting details about the backup."

What is our primary use case?

I use the Veeam backup solution for our VR infrastructure.

We are using the on-premises deployment model.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are the flexibility and stability of the product.

The technical support is also very good.

What needs improvement?

If I'm trying to locate an item to restore from one of the backups, I would appreciate the ability to perform a global search on the catalog. This includes all backups from the entire infrastructure.

I would like to have more flexibility in terms of reporting details about the backup. Specifically, I would like to get it from the whole infrastructure, instead of each one of the jobs.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for about eight years.

Good performance as a backup solution
Pros and Cons
  • "The installation of Veeam Agent is straightforward."
  • "A lower price would always be beneficial."

What is our primary use case?

We have one solution that is purely on-premise and another where we make the initial backup on-premise but send a copy to the cloud provider.

We use Veeam Agent for security as well as to ensure we have a backup should the server or discs fatally die. We are a small company with just one building, we want to be sure that should a server be gone we have a backup in the cloud so that we can survive.

We currently have between two and three users for this solution and one team member responsible for the maintenance and deployment.

The performance of Veeam Agent for Windows is good.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Our environment is not very large, however, in a bigger environment, I don't believe it would be a problem.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In the past, we had been using Backup Exec.

How was the initial setup?

The installation of Veeam Agent is straightforward. The initial setup takes two to three hours.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We pay a license fee. A lower price would always be beneficial.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend using this solution. I would rate it a 10 out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Stable, with good normal file recovery and many helpful features
Pros and Cons
  • "We found the initial setup to be quite simple."
  • "The solution lacks instant recovery."

What is our primary use case?

We have one customer that has three or four servers and those are Windows servers. We have to use the agent only.

Any laptop or desktop that is Windows can use it, as well as physical servers. We don't use this with virtual servers.

What is most valuable?

The solution works really well.

It offers all the features we need.

Normal file recovery is there and quite helpful.

You can mount the shared folder, the backup folder, in order to do the backup.

The solution is stable.

The product can scale.

We found the initial setup to be quite simple.

What needs improvement?

The solution lacks instant recovery.

Specific file and file-level backup are not there. That is the challenge.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have a customer that has been using the solution for more than two years, and another customer that has had it for a year or more.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have three or four customers that are using the solution.

How are customer service and support?

Even if you have different licenses, the technical support remains the same.  We haven't had any issues with support in general.

How was the initial setup?

The implementation process is straightforward. It's not overly complex or difficult.

Anyone who understands the installation just has to go through and click, click, next, done. There is not much configuration needed as everything is done on the management console.

You only need one technical person to handle the initial setup and any maintenance. We have three or four individuals who are capable.

What about the implementation team?

We were able to handle the installation ourselves, in-house. We did not need a consultant or integrator to assist us.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

You don't have to pay a monthly or yearly licensing fee. It's already built-in.

What other advice do I have?

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. I've mostly been quite happy with the product.

I would recommend this solution to other users and companies.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

An efficient, reliable solution with a straightforward setup
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup was straightforward. It was very easy. Deployment only took about one hour with configuration and everything considered."
  • "Maybe in the future, they could do something better with the user interface and the performance, but so far it's a really good, efficient solution."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for backup and restore purposes.

What is most valuable?

So far, I've found the solution to be easy to use. It's fast and reliable as well. I can access whatever I need on very short notice.

Also, with Veeam I don't need to install Agent on every machine, unlike Veritas, one of its competitors. This makes it a more efficient solution.

What needs improvement?

So far, the solution has been working very well for us.

Maybe in the future, they could do something better with the user interface and the performance, but so far it's a really good, efficient solution.

For how long have I used the solution?

I'm new to the solution. I haven't been using it for very long.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is still new to us, but so far I haven't faced any stability issues.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support has been good. I haven't needed them so far, but they did ask if I wanted help with the implementation and the deployment. I didn't need anything, but they were very friendly.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. It was very easy. Deployment only took about one hour with configuration and everything considered.

What other advice do I have?

We are using the solution for different types of software, including Windows, Linux, SQL databases, etc. We use the on-premises deployment model. We have five or six administrators using the model currently.

I would rate this solution ten out of ten. I'd recommend it to others.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have never needed to contact technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Veritas was the leader in the market perhaps ten years ago. But since that time, many other companies like Veeam have come to the front. Veeam is a really good software application, whereas Veritas is a very complex product.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of this solution is simple and it is very quick to deploy.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We use and evaluate many different backup and recovery solutions.

How are customer service and technical support?

I am not very impressed by the technical support I received when I had an issue.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was really straightforward and we did it ourselves. The installation, however, was very difficult and troublesome.
