What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It has so far been a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable and supports our needs.
How are customer service and support?
I rate the technical support a ten out of ten.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We switched to Trend Micro Smart Protection due to the lack of after-service.
How was the initial setup?
It took about a week to integrate, and we used an integrator.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We have annual licensing costs, but I do not have specific figures.
What other advice do I have?
I rate this solution an eight out of ten. Using Trend Micro Smart Protection depends on the business case. Here in Egypt, we like the technical support, and they have a very good reputation. We have good staff in the country, and I recommend Trend Micro Smart Protection to anyone in the Egyptian market.

It's good for monitoring traffic, particularly email, and securing our clients' endpoints
Pros and Cons
- "Smart Protection is great for monitoring traffic, particularly email, and protecting the endpoints. Both are valuable."
- "Smart Protection could be more compatible with older operating systems like Windows XP and Windows 2000. Some of our clients have requested that."
What is most valuable?
Smart Protection is great for monitoring traffic, particularly email, and protecting the endpoints. Both are valuable.
What needs improvement?
Smart Protection could be more compatible with older operating systems like Windows XP and Windows 2000. Some of our clients have requested that.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been working for this company for three years, but I also provided Trend Micro solutions to a paper company before, so I've been using Trend Micro for five to 10 years.
In 2019, we deployed Trend Micro APEX One to one of the biggest banks in the Philippines. Some of our clients use Check Point and others use Sophos.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I've heard no complaints from customers, so Smart Protection seems to be stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Smart Protection is scalable.
How was the initial setup?
Smart Protection is easy to deploy. The time needed for deployment depends on the number of sites and endpoints. It can take anywhere from one to three months. You need a minimum of two engineers and a maximum of six.
We also provide a managed service. For my research project, there are two assigned engineers and around two to four help desks.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I don't deal with numbers, but clients tell me that it's a cost-efficient solution that's competitive with other endpoint protection software.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Trend Micro Smart Protection nine out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Microsoft Azure

A comprehensive solution with DLP, device control, and other features, but it does have its challenges in terms of scalability
Pros and Cons
- "It is their most comprehensive endpoint protection solution. It includes DLP and Office 365. It also includes device control and the rest of the little bells and whistles that the traditional AV vendors have."
- "It is onsite. It does have its challenges in terms of scalability."
What is our primary use case?
It is an endpoint protection solution. It is now being phased out for Cloud One, but it is still being used by customers.
What is most valuable?
It is their most comprehensive endpoint protection solution. It includes DLP and Office 365. It also includes device control and the rest of the little bells and whistles that the traditional AV vendors have.
What needs improvement?
I'm expecting Smart Protection to be phased out, and for them to only use their cloud-enabled EDR. I expect it to become end-of-life in the next three years and then just the EDR will be available.
It is onsite. It does have its challenges in terms of scalability.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been providing this solution for a few years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is fairly scalable, but it is onsite. So, it does have its challenges in scalability. It is not like a cloud-native type of thing that you can just ramp up.
Its user count is quite big. I've got about 10 customers.
How are customer service and support?
Their technical support is good. I would rate them a seven out of 10.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
How was the initial setup?
The installation is fairly straightforward, but it also depends on how deep you want to go. If you want to do encryption of all the endpoints with it, then it becomes a bit more challenging because encryption on an endpoint is a challenge in itself. It's time-consuming, and it needs certain things to be done in the BIOS and so forth before the encryption works perfectly. Usually, it takes about half an hour per endpoint, and that includes troubleshooting the anomalies.
In terms of the people required for its implementation, it depends on how quickly you want to do it. It takes about half an hour per installation. What we usually do is that we've got a team of people who sit and do the installation and configuration. So, the initial installation and configuration take a bit of time, but after that, running it isn't time-consuming.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
There is an annual subscription license on it. In the next release, there might be monthly payment options. So, people might be able to get it through AWS in the future, but right now for on-prem, it is annual.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend it for people with budget constraints and smaller companies. I would not recommend it for what we consider as enterprise companies here in South Africa.
It is a good product. As compared to other endpoint protection products, I would rate it a six out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Good features with great performance and pretty good security
Pros and Cons
- "The stability is good and I like the level of performance I can get."
- "The web filtering could be improved."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution for web filtering. It's useful for protecting personal information.
What is most valuable?
The stability is good and I like the level of performance I can get. It's not picking up a lot of the sources from the PC which makes it very light. It's policy-based, therefore, users have a different level of access to the internet and to the file servers.
The solution has many good features.
We don't have an issue with the level of security on offer.
What needs improvement?
The web filtering could be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
We just started using the solution a few months ago. It hasn't been that long just yet.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable and the product isn't too heavy, which makes the performance good. It doesn't slow down machines. It doesn't crash or freeze either.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have about 250 users on the solution. That includes remote workers as well.
I'm not sure if there are plans at this point to go and expand the solution or not.
How was the initial setup?
While I'm not sure how the initial setup goes, I can say that for the end customer it is only a script, so it's less than a second to deploy. It's auto-pushed by the ADs, Active Directories.
We have three engineers that can handle deployment and maintenance tasks.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We have a license that is paid and renewed yearly.
What other advice do I have?
We're customers and end-users.
We're using the latest version of the solution. However, I do not know the version number off-hand.
I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten due to the fact that I don't really like the web filtering.
I'd recommend the solution to other users.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Integrates well, robust features, and straightforward installation
Pros and Cons
- "One of the most valuable features of Trend Micro Smart Protection is the integration with other solutions."
What is our primary use case?
Trend Micro Smart Protection is used for network security.
What is most valuable?
One of the most valuable features of Trend Micro Smart Protection is the integration with other solutions.
Trend Micro Smart Protection is not much different than the Apex One, but has a few more features and is more robust.
What needs improvement?
The solution could be more compatible with other operating systems.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Trend Micro Smart Protection for approximately three months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Trend Micro Smart Protection is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable.
I have approximately 100 customers using this solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
The support is very good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I use other security solutions, such as Trend Micro Apex One.
How was the initial setup?
The installation is straightforward. If you have a smaller network environment it could take one day for the implementation and if it is a larger complex environment it could take approximately four days.
What about the implementation team?
We use one certified technician to do the implementation and maintenance of the solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
There is an annual license required for this solution.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution to others. However, those looking to purchase this solution should first look at their network to understand the requirements and what they want to do exactly. Trend Micro Smart Protection might be a solution that is more than what is required and Trend Micro Apex One could be sufficient in their use case. Overall choosing between Apex One or Smart Protection is up to them to decide based on their use case.
I rate Trend Micro Smart Protection an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud

Offers behavior monitoring, machine learning with excellent web reputation service
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable features are the behavior monitoring, behavior analysis, and web reputation service."
- "The only drawback to this solution is that it needs different products for different types of clients, and it would be better to have a single agent for all of the products."
What is our primary use case?
We are primarily using this solution for protecting endpoints and servers, which includes schedule scanning on weekly basis. Also using web reputation services for actively blocking any malicious website at user end.
How has it helped my organization?
Primarily, we are using this solution for protecting endpoints and servers as well. This solution is a part of our multi-layers security for browsing internet.
we use this endpoint protection to protect our endpoints using behavior and signature-based analysis. We are not totally dependent on Trend Micro, but it is part of our multi-layered protection approach.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features are the behavior monitoring, behavior analysis, and web reputation service. They have a very good web reputation service.
What needs improvement?
The only drawback to this solution is that it needs different products for different types of clients, and it would be better to have a single agent for all of the products. For example, for clients we need to have officescan and for server we need to have deep security from trendmicro.
Improvements need to be made so that detection is more behavior-based, rather than signature-based. The behavior analytics is there but it needs to be more advanced. Ideally, I would like to see completely signature-less threat detection.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Smart Protection Complete for more than six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This solution is very stable and provides all of the protection that we are expecting. We can trust this product and are using it for each and every client. In fact, this endpoint solution is used for everything.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability is not a problem. We have more than 2,000 clients who are using this solution and 10 to 15 of them are administrators.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is excellent. I have not seen this level of support from any other vendors.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used to use a solution by McAfee but we switched because of the support. It was not matching our criteria at that time, although now I know they improved.
How was the initial setup?
I would not say that the initial setup is easy or difficult. It does require some expertise, so it is not easy. It is difficult in terms of management.
The length of time for deployment depends on the number of clients. With more than 2,000 clients, our deployment took almost one and a half months. We have six people, two engineers and four technicians, who were involved in the deployment.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We are always evaluating other products and comparing them to Trend Micro. Between 40% and 50% of these products rely on a signature-based detection method, while there are a few that depend totally on behavior analysis. We are always looking for next-generation antivirus solutions.
What other advice do I have?
I recommend this product as it can be first line of defense for any organization with excellent features, like behavior monitoring, machine learning, and others...
Overall, this product is very good, although there is still room for improvement.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Well-priced with good anti-virus capabilities, but database encryption is missing
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable features are the DLP and anti-virus functionality."
- "This product would be improved if it had more monitoring capabilities so that it could stop threats before they break into the network and damage it."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use this solution for anti-virus and managing protection for our clients.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features are the DLP and anti-virus functionality. The anti-virus is good.
What needs improvement?
Nowadays, it is not possible to rely only on an anti-virus solution. This product would be improved if it had more monitoring capabilities so that it could stop threats before they break into the network and damage it.
Database encryption is missing and should be added.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Trend Micro Smart Protection for one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This is a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have not tried to scale it.
How are customer service and technical support?
During my tenure, I have never required technical support.
How was the initial setup?
The deployment is easy and quick. You just download the client, install it, and configure it.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is good compared to Symantec and McAfee. However, the features are not in a bundled form but rather, they are in a separate, segregated format. If I want to use other features apart from DLP, I have to purchase extra licenses.
What other advice do I have?
The suitability of this product depends on the scenario. There are many similar products on the market right now, and everybody is evaluating them based on their own needs. That said, this is a good product and it is worth having a look at.
I would rate this solution a six out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
