From my perspective, SonicWall NSv currently works very well, but I believe it would be better if you could integrate SonicWall NSv UI with AI. Every platform is now integrating with AI, at least in collaboration. If you can add more AI features to SonicWall NSv, such as recommendations, that would be great.

While I have not encountered significant challenges, during the configuration part, I noticed that some features, such as user-based policy for web filtering, are not available in SonicWall NSv compared to other firewalls. For dedicated users, we cannot allow a particular website category in a single policy, which is available in Sophos.
I find the features of SonicWall NSv similar to other firewalls, but I believe that application-based QoS policy is very important given the current environment. This feature should be available for application QoS as well in this firewall.
For implementation, I suggest that having a single page to view multiple options would enhance SonicWall NSv. Additionally, the report and logging part is challenging since identifying blocked websites based solely on default logging is quite difficult. Improved logging and reporting capabilities should be available on-box, including at least seven days of reporting and logs.
View full review »One feature that really stands out is the consistency between SonicWall NSv and the physical SonicWall firewalls, making it feel familiar for those already acquainted with SonicWall, which reduces operational effort and mistakes. The reliability of VPN stability and policy handling is evident once the initial setup is complete; however, on the improvement side, reporting and visibility could be better since built-in reports are basic, necessitating an external logging or SIEM solution for deeper traffic analysis or compliance.
Moreover, the initial cloud deployment and routing design can be challenging without a well-experienced team in cloud networking. SonicWall NSv is strong for security and day-to-day operation, but it would benefit from more advanced native reporting and smoother cloud onboarding.

Overall, SonicWall NSv is a strong and reliable virtual firewall, but based on my hands-on experience, there are a few areas where it can definitely be improved.
The first area is the management interface and usability. The management UI sometimes feels outdated and less intuitive compared to some newer firewall platforms. Navigating logs, policies, and monitoring screens can take extra time. Some advanced settings are not very easy to find.
This is the feedback I have regarding areas that need improvement by SonicWall.

I believe SonicWall NSv is performing well overall, but I think it would be beneficial to have physical versions, such as the hardware of SonicWall NSv, for some environments that may not necessarily need to be connected to the cloud. I also think that there could be free tutorials or courses for engineers to learn more about these new firewall deployments and their use cases. If there are resources, sharing them online would be helpful to master the full capacities of the product.
The few points off I take relate to the understanding that there should always be improvement in every production environment. I believe there may be significant improvements that the application itself needs that I have not recognized or shared, and I trust that your team has the ability to enhance this further to compete better in the market.

I believe SonicWall NSv can be improved, as currently, they are rolling out Generation 7 models, and I am not sure if they are also working on Generation 8 and beyond. I faced a problem when migrating from an old Generation 6 firewall to a Generation 7 firewall, where I could not simply copy the configuration from one appliance to the other; I had to rebuild the entire policies, IP addressing, the rules, the NAT rules, the tunnels, and the VPN policies. I believe that if they have an interface that simplifies moving from an old generation to a new one, that would save significant time for the IT team's engineers and organizations as a whole.

I would appreciate the app filter rules, which are already there, but managing it on the web console is a bit confusing for me. I would prefer to have it easier, similar to how we handle the web filter on SonicWall NSv.
SonicWall NSv is better in all aspects mostly, but I would prefer to see improvements in the quality of the OS running on it, particularly if there are some bugs.
The improvement needed is about the user interface.
View full review »To improve SonicWall NSv, we need to address that it is currently available only on AWS and Azure, and I think we need to move on with Oracle and GCP.
Regarding improvements, I find that logs are required. I chose 8 out of 10 because logs are unable to restore in the same system, requiring a separate analyzer or analytics. Competitors have seven-day storage available, which is very useful.
View full review »SonicWall NSv can be improved, particularly in the SAML implementation, which was introduced in 7.2 firmware. I have 7.3, and I am waiting on that first jumbo hotfix from SonicWall. There is a need to continue improving the SAML implementation.
View full review »As far as SonicWall NSv improvements go, I cannot really say there is much needed. I think it is on the right path, and I am impressed with its support. I am fully satisfied with the designs and services.

SonicWall NSv can be improved due to the lack of proper documentation, because even though there are a lot of documentation available, there are particular use cases that are not included. For example, when we are configuring a network in the ring structure instead of the tree structure, there is less documentation regarding how to implement that.

Currently, we are getting challenges with user-wise reports and other reporting details. At present, they do not provide detailed reports compared to other products.

SonicWall NSv can be improved by maintaining its security with up-to-date patches and ensuring it has the latest updates to secure the device.
View full review »The engine provided initially was quite heavy, creating a trade-off between software and hardware-based threat management. A component was installed on every device, consuming substantial memory. When the software was downloaded, optimal hardware utilization was lacking, making hardware upgrades inevitable. Issues like these were tied to the engine size. However, significant improvements and threading have made the solution more convenient, moving from a bulky application.
View full review »We face some challenges when we upgrade the solution. If I use NSv 400, I can't upgrade to the next generation. We cannot upgrade the VM to the next generation. We have to rebuild a new VM and copy the configurations. We cannot upgrade straightaway. The solution must allow us to upgrade the same machine to a newer version without many changes.

Mostly in India, the customer service has many hurdles to get real support. If I want to talk to a customer executive, they ask many trivial questions. Even if I explain that I am asking for a Dell partner, they still ask specific questions, and they will explain many unnecessary questions.

SonicWall NSV's SSL VPN could increase its number of users to 100-plus users. I have still not checked if SonicWall NSV will support SSL VPN for 100-plus users.
View full review »An area that could be improved is the export and import settings functionality. When changing or adding equipment, one has to recreate all the rules, as the import and export system could be more efficient. The pricing of the solution for Brazil could be improved.
SonicWall NSV's initial setup is complicated and requires good knowledge.

The hardware box renewal appliances GUI became extremely slow after the release of SonicOS 7.
When I compare SonicWall to its competitors, I notice that there are some functions that I cannot perform with the SonicWall appliance. For example, when I assign a user base bandwidth management, I enable the ULA (User Level Authentication), but I need a different solution and must enable browser-based authentication.
SonicWall requires certain features such as the authentication agent and user-based routing.
There are limitations to bandwidth management. When used in the education sector, there are some difficulties. They require bandwidth management, an authentication agent, and SSL VPNs.
Google Chrome is not supported, which is why the ULA occasionally fails to function. The authentication page does not appear.
The earlier model is TZ SOHO, they now have a startup with TZ270. We have some offices that have 10 users, as well as a limited amount of users that require a small device such as TZ SOHO, and not the TZ270.
We are having some difficulties with the SOHO 250 model, regarding the throughput, but when I use the TZ270 it works well. I decided to replace it with TZ270.
When I enable the ULA, the Sophos core usage increases dramatically. Everything works fine when I use the IP-based policy. In general, when it comes to IP-based configuration, everything is fine; everything works great.
In terms of user-based policies and Gen 7, we have several problems with the ULA, and the page does not appear. We are unable to log in when the page does not appear, even when we have entered the correct credentials.
SonicWall, as well as other competitors, have SD-WAN, however, SonicWall features are different. The web filter component, the application component, and the firewall access rules, for example, are all different in the SonicWall Appliance.
When creating firewall access rules in Sophos and Fortinet, I just define the source, destination, and user, as well as a web filter, an application filter, and user bandwidth management on a single line. I only follow one rule and have never had a problem.
Everything is contained in a single rule only when I create it. I can assign web filter policies, application filter policies, and I can apply all security services in a single rule.

I would like to see the reporting opened up and have several more opportunities for automatic reports. I have experience with building custom reports that I can use, but I don't have that kind of time anymore. Having more canned reports, which is what Firepower gave us, would be very beneficial.

It has been brought to our attention by a few customers that they are dissatisfied with the fact that our virtualized service is only offered as a subscription option on the cloud. However, it is worth noting that many other similar services are also offered through a subscription model on the cloud and not through perpetual licensing. It is unclear why these customers would have an issue with this subscription service when so many others are utilizing similar methods.
