Non-technical users would get bogged down trying to set up expressions.

What is most valuable?

  • Easy to use

What needs improvement?

Set analysis "language" leaves a lot to be desired; non-technical users wanted full features but would get bogged down trying to set up expressions, requiring unplanned help.

Visuals change when exported; not compatible with other products other than Qlik.

Must have Qlik tools to use Qlik files.

I’m referring to the script expressions in the visualizations. Explaining or working through something like below to an everyday user was tedious, and time consuming. Plus, it did not leverage the skillset of our developers, and switching gears from our working environment (SQL Server, Visual Studio) to a Qlik scenario was a real pain.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used it for one year.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

We have not encountered any deployment issues.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have not encountered any stability issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Data must be well staged or Qlik has trouble loading and relating data sources.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

Customer service is good.

Technical Support:

Technical support is good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

There was nothing that was being created - except for some of the geospatial/map features - that couldn't be done in Excel.

What about the implementation team?

A combination of a vendor team and an in-house team implemented it; mostly in-house.

What was our ROI?

  • Sunset the product; moving on to another product.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing this product, we did not evaluate other options. A salesperson got a hold on some people outside of IT/BI; need I say more.

What other advice do I have?

It's an easy-to-use, fun visualization tool; probably best suited for prototyping. We explained this to Qlik Sense sales and were told we probably over bought.

Easy to use with a modern design, but it would benefit from better customizability
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is the user experience."
  • "I would like to have the ability to better customize the visuals including changing fonts, sizing, colors, axes, and titles."

What is our primary use case?

We are working with Qlik Sense Server Edition, installed in an international company with more than 10,000 users.

How has it helped my organization?

Lots of end-users are now familiar enough with this solution to create quick dashboards based on their own data sources, like Excel files, CSV, TXT files, and databases. They also have the ability to connect to a data mart.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the user experience. It is easy to use and has a modern design.

What needs improvement?

I would like to have the ability to better customize the visuals including changing fonts, sizing, colors, axes, and titles.

Additional functionality would improve this solution.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Qlik sense for two years.

End users can adjust their analysis with a few simple clicks
Pros and Cons
  • "Faster time to delivery utilizing useful charts and graphs, which allows for on-demand generation of analytical data in tables, graphs, and charts."
  • "End users can adjust their analysis with a few simple clicks."
  • "I would like to see more types of visual elements and better configuration options for additional flexibility when developing charts."

What is our primary use case?

Business analytics: We have an on-premise server architecture, using Qlik Sense and NPrinting, delivering on-demand analytics.

How has it helped my organization?

Faster time to delivery utilizing useful charts and graphs, which allows for on-demand generation of analytical data in tables, graphs, and charts.

What is most valuable?

  • Ease of development: Delivery of useful analytics in a shorter period of time.
  • End users can adjust their analysis with a few simple clicks.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see more types of visual elements and better configuration options for additional flexibility when developing charts.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

A clear and easy way to understand graphics
Pros and Cons
  • "It connects very simply to data sources."
  • "Qlik Sense has given us visibility into our data to make informed decisions."
  • "I wish the product had the ability for slightly more customization. The out-of-the box charts and visualizations are fantastic, but I want to be able to tweak it without having to add outside extensions and widgets."

What is our primary use case?

Implemented Qlik Sense in an enterprise environment of approximately 60 users. We migrated from QlikView where the tool was primarily used by high level management.

How has it helped my organization?

Qlik Sense has given us visibility into our data to make informed decisions. We are able to compile data for insights into metrics that we had not seen before on a large scale. Perhaps only one or two users were still getting their insights of data compiled into an Excel spreadsheet.

What is most valuable?

  • It is very simple to make charts and master measures.
  • A clear and easy way to understand graphics.
  • It connects very simply to data sources.

What needs improvement?

I wish the product had the ability for slightly more customization. The out-of-the box charts and visualizations are fantastic, but I want to be able to tweak it without having to add outside extensions and widgets.

Makes it simple to design graphs on the fly.

What is most valuable?

Qlik Sense makes it simple to design graphs on the fly in very little time.

How has it helped my organization?

It has cut the production time of creating reports from hours to minutes.

What needs improvement?

Visually, Qlik Sense has some bugs that prevents the user from being able to customize fonts and certain layouts. When a total column is added it bolds the second column instead of the total column. It looks poor from a presentation standpoint. Additionally, you cannot customize the font type, color, or size.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Qlik Sense for five months.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

There were some deployment issues but nothing that was not correctable.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Initially, we had issues with reloads failing but have not experienced any stability issues for multiple months since then.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We are not encountering any scalability issues at this time.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

The customer service is excellent and definitely care about the client.

Technical Support:

I have not had to use the technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not use a comparable product prior to using Qlik Sense.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was somewhat challenging but we worked with a consultant to ease the burden.

What about the implementation team?

The vendor was very good with implementing but we have not had great success with them through the build process.

What was our ROI?

We have not determined our ROI at this point.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Find out how many users will actually be in Qlik Sense on a daily basis as opposed to users that only want to see a set display at scheduled frequency. If they want to see a set display, I would suggest using NPrinting and not buying the individual a license.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Some other options were evaluated but I do not recall the names of the other BI tools.

What other advice do I have?

It is a significant time commitment on the front end, so plan accordingly.

Thanks for your review Brandon. I was wondering if you could elaborate on the valuable features of Qlik Sense as oppose to other options in the BI category? I'd love to hear more about that. Thanks, Julia

In general, they have the advantage of an associative data model.

What is most valuable?

Qlik in general have the advantage of an associative data model.

In addition, Qlik Sense offers (if set up in the right way) an easy-to-use, end-user, self-service solution.

How has it helped my organization?

We integrate Qlik as an EU-wide BI tool. Acceptance was never an issue due to the ease of use and user interface.

What needs improvement?

The "vanilla" Qlik Sense tool is limited in some areas. There are extensions for nearly everything; however, it comes at a cost if you still want to be sure these extensions still work after a Qlik update.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Qlik Sense now for ~2 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The only issue we encountered were made internally (server, performance...).

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

I give the customer service a 9/10.

Technical Support:

Technical support is the same, 9/10 (very satisfied).

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used MicroStrategy but in comparison to Qlik, it was way too complicated and slow.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented it with the help of a vendor team. Based on the experiences and the final result, it was straightforward and (still) great support.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Depending of the company size, of course, an enterprise license model makes sense.

Prices from Qlik are in general high; however, there are more and more other vendors who offers the same support. Nonetheless, I recommend to check experience level beforehand, as not all Qlik-certified partners have the same level of quality, in my opinion.

What other advice do I have?

I'm very satisfied with Sense; however, I prefer Qlik View even more at the moment due to some limitations with Sense (please see the area for improvements section).

Easy to use, user friendly, and good technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "There are a lot of features available in this solution, it has been very easy to use. We have found it to be less complex and user-friendly compared to other solutions we have used."
  • "My advice to others is to make sure they have a good technical team. We have found that a lot of the consultants go in and out of the business and sometimes you are left alone without assistance."

What is our primary use case?

This solution is an analytic platform and we are in the early stages of development for our data center.

What is most valuable?

There are a lot of features available in this solution, it has been very easy to use. We have found it to be less complex and user-friendly compared to other solutions we have used.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for approximately three months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of this solution is very good.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We are currently using SAP and Qlik Sense.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is simple.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation is very easy, we did it ourselves.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have evaluated other solutions.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others is to make sure they have a good technical team. We have found that a lot of the consultants go in and out of the business and sometimes you are left alone without assistance. We have been using two solutions simultaneously and I would not advise doing so, focus on one solution at a time.

I rate Qlik Sense an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
