We performed a comparison between Fortinet FortiClient and Symantec Advanced Threat Protection based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Endpoint Protection Platform (EPP) solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The setup is pretty simple."
"I like FortiClient EMS. FortiEDR has a lot of great features like lockdown mode, remote wipes, and encryption. I can set malware outbreak policies and controls for detecting abnormalities. You can also simulate phishing attacks."
"NGAV and EDR features are outstanding."
"Additionally, when it comes to EDR, there are more tools available to assist with client work."
"The solution was relatively easy to deploy."
"Fortinet is very user-friendly for customers."
"Fortinet FortiEDR's scalability is quite good, and you can add licenses to the solution."
"The stability is very good."
"It is a stable solution."
"FortiClient is very easy, useful, and practical."
"FortiClient's most valuable features are that it's easy to install and connect and has OTP on email IDs and two-factor authentication."
"What I like most about FortiClient is that it's easy to use. The way it displays information is very straightforward."
"The product is user-friendly."
"FortiClient's most valuable features are that it's fast and safe."
"It seems to be more scalable than we thought."
"The most valuable feature of Fortinet FortiClient is its performance."
"The great advantage in using this product is it creates multiple services."
"Real-time threat analysis is quick and takes action on threats immediately."
"The most valuable feature is NetFlow threat protection."
"The most valuable feature is Click-time URL protection."
"They manage to solve detection quite nicely. There is some rather elaborate detection compared to other providers."
"Symantec Endpoint Protection provides end-to-end protection. Along with antivirus protection, it has a lot of key areas, including intrusive prevention, firewall features, and application and device control."
"It has certainly helped out our audit efforts because we each stay compliant in terms of various security standards."
"Currently we have 800-plus nodes connected with this solution, without any issues. The solution is scalable."
"ZTNA can improve latency."
"The security should be strong for the cloud. Some applications are on-prem and some are on the cloud. Fortinet should also have strong security for the cloud. There should be more security for the cloud."
"Once, we had an event that was locked and blocked, but information about it came to us two or three days later."
"We've had a lot of false positives; things incorrectly flagged that require manual configuration to allow. Even worse, after we allow a legitimate program, it sometimes gets flagged again after an update. This has caused a lot of extra work for my team."
"The support needs improvement."
"The solution should address emerging threats like SQL injection."
"FortiEDR could add a separate scanning dashboard. In incident management, we prefer to remove the endpoint system from the environment and scan the system. We typically use Symantec for that, but if we want to use FortiEDR for that, then we need a scanning tab to clarify things."
"Everything with Fortinet having to do with their cloud services. They need to invest more in their internal infrastructure that they are running in the cloud. One of the things I find with their cloud environment compared to others' is that they go cheap on the equipment. So it causes some performance degradation."
"It would be nice to see more in hand features in terms of the DLP, so that the solution can be integrated with the DLP, as well as more reporting features on the end point."
"The solution's access control could be improved."
"In terms of improvements, their SSL VPN tunnel can be a lot better. I've seen other products that have got much better VPN features than Fortinet. Some of my colleagues get this error called "License not available." When they get this error, they have to uninstall and reinstall it. This kind of problem is there, and sometimes, we have to open a case with Fortinet to resolve it. Their support is quick, so we are able to resolve and move forward. In terms of new features, when it is connecting, it should check the endpoint and say whether the end client is actually safe enough or whether there is a vulnerability. It should give a pop-up on the client itself. Because I'm on the admin side, I can also see this information in the log. However, if a non-IT user, such as a user from finance, is working on this and there is some problem, he or she would not know about this and would call IT admin to say that this is not working. If the users get a message explaining why and what is happening, it is easy for them to understand."
"When we change our endpoint, we have to connect again, which means having to enter our credentials and permissions."
"We would like Fortinet to add the function or the possibility to use all FortiClient features for free."
"The quality and response time of the support team must be improved."
"While I cannot think of new features to add, it would be nice if the reports were improved, to have these sent automatically."
"The product's performance and pricing could be better."
"The cloud platform needs to have improvement in terms of the user interface and the different capabilities it has available. It needs to match the other leading next-gen EDR products that are available in the market. That's the reason why we are stepping away from Symantec. Their cloud environment is just generally lacking in comparison to others."
"It should be able to collect information if the agent is disabled."
"The security features need to be improved."
"The support has dropped down to a five out of ten."
"The administration interface needs a lot of improvement. It should be UI based, and simple. They need to improve it. It's pretty much not that friendly compared to what we were using as Bitdefender before. It's okay but is improving, actually."
"It's a strange situation where the infrastructure of the consumer or customer is behind some kind of firewall and they have always used some kind of customized proxy. In this situation, the ATP has a very tough time to pass the information to the cloud and back. To fix, it requires a more elaborate and complex configuration for that particular case."
"There are some features that would add value to this product. One of them would be a graphical presentation of threats that the system has encountered."
"It also needs network-based threat protection for shared folders and files."
