We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The product is flexible.""The ability to have all of the data in one place from risks and issues to resource capacity and actual utilization.""There were probably about five or six metrics that we used. As a result, the groups that I supported were consistently ranked at the absolute top of the organization, as we were leveraging these built-in tools for tracking.""It helps all the portfolio managers and the program managers to take stock of the financial situation at the program and portfolio level, because it rolls up all the financials at the product level.""It is a scalable, easy-to-deploy, and user-friendly solution for enterprise businesses.""Broadcom Clarity PPM's most valuable feature is the plenty of modules, such as portfolio, project, resource, and time.""Upgrades were pretty straightforward. CA took care of everything, we just did the testing.""We just put all the data into one place and hopefully, after we have accurate data, we can make more decisions based on real data rather than gut feeling."

"The solution includes good and fast notifications for other project team members.""Version management is the most valuable feature of JIRA Portfolio.""The most valuable feature of the JIRA Portfolio is the many features it provides, such as code integration, documentation, roadmap, and Eclipse. The solution is useful for product managers.""With JIRA, you can do amazing things by developing connectors, embedding features, and adding new fields to create new things.""The workflow and bucket features are most helpful.""The most valuable feature is that it fits very well into an agile framework, and it is especially helpful with the planning aspects.""The product's integration capabilities work pretty well, especially considering that more tools are always needed in enterprise-sized businesses.""The customized workflows we can define are very valuable. JIRA's private projects is very useful as well. There are also a lot of plugins that they provide."

More JIRA Portfolio Pros →

"The fact that you can have different access groups is definitely a pro for Smartsheet. It also has the ability to integrate with a lot of tools.""The most valuable feature of Smartsheet is it can be highly customized.""The product is easy to use.""The most valuable feature of Smartsheet is its intuitiveness, ease of use, and overall simplicity.""The tool creates shareable dashboards. These dashboards allow us to display project deliverables' status, their position in the queue, expected delivery timelines, and more. The best part is that these dashboards can be shared with our clients without a license.""Smartsheet does a really good job of creating Gantt charts. Export to Excel feature was also very useful.""The dashboard and the layouts are quite good.""For doing project plans what was really valuable is the ability to do a predecessor."

Cons
"The forms (e.g., project properties page) need to be more attractive, colorful, and field more flexibility for validations.""The look and the feel of 14.4 is a bit antiquated.""Maybe we need to bring some financial executive reports to our directors and executives. Maybe we can improve the use of Jaspersoft.""Build more capability and unification into the reporting.""The risks issues and changes are not in the new UX yet.""The solution could improve the way the workflow is developed. I think they could be more dynamic because they are in a way static. They're very powerful, but they don't have any interaction with end-users.""Reporting is not good as they keep on changing reporting environment.""CA Communities need a lot of improvement."

More Broadcom Clarity Cons →

"With Jira, an issue that arises is the length of time it takes to show certain data.""JIRA Portfolio could improve new implementation because if I want integration for the complete wide frame tools it cannot provide any wide frame tools.""We are based in India; I would like the product to integrate local pricing. We earn in rupees but spend in dollars. Its pricing could also be lowered.""The initial setup could use improvement.""We are using the on-premise deployment, but it is slower and not as easy to manage as the cloud version.""Another thing could be to have an easy way to manage the Portfolio and have more ways to share and to show graphics and reports""The product's initial setup phase is complex.""There should be an integration of efforts between the cloud service providers' side and JIRA Portfolio."

More JIRA Portfolio Cons →

"If there was some way to store more complex files in the system, or if there was a back-end structure where you could store files, that would be ideal.""Maybe the solution could be a little bit more flexible.""Smartsheet's export and print functions could be more seamless. Once I create the plan in Smartsheet, I need to import it into my corporate web presentations. This isn't always smooth. I have to save it in PDF format, then cut an image from the PDF version.""We have to manually put in every dependency in Smartsheet.""An area for improvement in Smartsheet is that if you're in the government or you're a regulated customer, you're not allowed to use APIs due to internal restrictions, so there are specific things that you cannot connect to it. Another area for improvement in the solution is that because there's a capacity of how many records you can have, and there's a capacity of how many functions you can apply, Smartsheet has set up their system where they can force people into purchasing a $20,000 additional module that is called Control Center, that will create documents for them on the fly, so they don't use so many functions and automation. Smartsheet also needs to improve on training, because the training that is out there is very little. The solution requires a steeper learning curve. You have to do your own training and you have to work on your own solution.""Smartsheet should continue to expand the spreadsheet-type functionality because it's limited currently. Most business users are familiar with Excel and Office, so Smartsheet should adopt a similar way of navigating the program.""Lacks the ability to edit attachments within the solution.""I would like if Smartsheet allowed more formulas in its sheets. I don't think working with formulas is as intuitive as it is in Excel. I use Vlookups and index matches in some of my sheets, and I had to find an outside consultant to help me build out those formulas."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "For all the functionalities of the solution, the price is in the market range, since it is a product which offers governance issues and supports the digital transformation, which is where we will go in the next year."
  • "Better understanding of requirements and how it will be implemented (with number of licenses for a given budget) would help."
  • "It is a little bit costly compared to others, but it is mature. Customer should understand this product is geared towards project management, not financial management."
  • "It is hard for them to say, "I have a person on my team who is going to be available, I am going to move that task to them". That requires a project management license, it doesn't require a team member license, so the licensing model does not sometimes support the way the business world is going."
  • "We're also moving to the latest version for less than $20,000 for a major corporate system. It's just amazing."
  • "Broadcom Clarity PPM costs us $500K, and that's only for the installation and kick off within the first year. For each succeeding year, it could cost $200K."
  • "There are different licensing models with Broadcom Clarity PPM. With the software as a service model, you pay as you go, and if you are on-premises, you can buy a perpetual license and an annual fee for maintenance."
  • "Cost-wise, the tool is very expensive and some tools might be able to cater to 80% of the functionality provided by Broadcom Clarity PPM but are not as expensive."
  • More Broadcom Clarity Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "This solution has a comparable pricing in comparison to other similar products on the market."
  • "The pricing of the solution is expensive."
  • "We only have nine people using it so we have a standard cost of $150 dollar per year. There are only additional costs if you exceed the limit of users, then you start paying by user. The cost is significantly higher."
  • "The pricing continues to get higher."
  • "The product is really not very expensive."
  • "We pay our fees annually, although monthly payments are also available."
  • "The price could be improved."
  • "We have a license to use JIRA Portfolio, we are not using the free version."
  • More JIRA Portfolio Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "This licensing is straightforward and they charge per user."
  • "Its licensing is on a yearly basis. I was responsible for negotiating the price with the Smartsheet team, but I don't remember what the price was. Its standard license probably was around 5,000 to 6,000 a year. The enterprise version is significantly more expensive."
  • "Smartsheet only requires licenses for project managers. When we were using Asana, we had to purchase a license for everyone who wanted to access their tasks and use the system. That gets costly fast. It was one of the main reasons we left Asana. As Asana and these other tools scale, they become way more expensive."
  • "There would be more extensive usage if the solution were cheaper. It's really expensive right now, and that's why we provide a few licenses for admins. The rest of them are just users without admin privileges."
  • "I would assume there is a licensing fee. I don't think that it is free."
  • "It is less expensive than Microsoft Project for enterprise or Oracle Primavera by an order of magnitude. If you buy a Microsoft Project license, it's probably $300 or so by itself, whereas Smartsheet is probably less than $50 per head."
  • "For a normal license, like the one I had: I had my own Smartsheet because I wanted to play with it and I didn't want to mess with what I was doing in Verizon, so I paid $200 monthly, and it gave me all the same functionalities, so I could do whatever I wanted for $200. The problem is if you have anyone else working on it or deploying on it, it's $200 a month for every single person who's deployed on it, that's working on it as an owner or an administrator, so owners and administrators are the only ones who can change, edit, and add data to worksheets and columns. Depending on the size of your organization, Smartsheet can be costly. As for implementing its Control Center, Smartsheet forces you to have three people come in: it's a minimum of three people from Smartsheet for three months who will provide you the solutions for the Control Center side, and that's $150 an hour, so it can become very expensive. For my company, not having the Control Center would save on the setup fees and then the $20,000 a year, because the Control Center of Smartsheet is a yearly subscription of $20,000."
  • "Smartsheet has many licensing models. You need to add the package that best suits your requirements. The license is paid per user and it is monthly. The cost was approximately $7 per PC, $15 for professional, and $33 for the enterprise plan."

    Reviews from Real Users

"Broadcom Clarity PPM is a high-value product that helps users become productive. It's a very stable, scalable, and fast platform, even from a self management perspective," says Mohammad J., Senior Clarity PPM Technical Consultant at Al Rajhi Bank.

A Director of Operations at a tech services company adds that "It's very good out of the box, without configurations required."

Sergio C., Service Delivery Manager at Syntech, says, "The most valuable feature is the portfolio functionality because we have the ability to work with different scenarios and many kinds of financial management. We can integrate with ERP, and with other solutions from third-party vendors. The financial model in Broadcom Clarity PPM, it's the most valuable aspect."

Jira Portfolio is an agile roadmapping tool designed to help teams build plans, envision the big picture, track progress, and share the process with stakeholders.

Jira Portfolio is planned based. A plan in Portfolio is a complete view of the tasks, teams, and release dates for your Jira projects.

Once you start to create a plan, there are three main factors you need to define:

    • Scope: A list of tasks that need to be carried out in order to complete the plan.
    • Teams: Who will be implementing the work? With the correct data in place, Portfolio can estimate how long it will take for the team to complete their tasks.
    • Releases: Your scheduled release date.

With Jira Portfolio, you can create a visual timeline to gain visibility across each of your teams and projects in a single place from a granular level and review cross-team and cross-project dependencies to prevent bottlenecks. This visibility can help you plan realistic release dates and manage your team’s capacity. The solution allows you to try out different scenarios with your roadmap and resources to help guide your decision making. Once you have a solid plan, you can easily integrate with Jira Software and commit your changes.

Jira Portfolio allows managers to easily add team members. The tool’s powerful scheduling algorithm assigns tasks to teams while taking priorities and dependencies into account so it can create a realistic forecast for project completion.

    Jira Portfolio Benefits

Some of the top benefits of using Jira Portfolio include:

    • Roadmaps and roadmaps dependencies: Roadmaps list details about the tasks that need to be executed in order to complete a project, as well as predictions for when they will be completed, which teams are in charge of the task, and a list of resources they require. By setting dependencies on your team’s roadmaps, unnecessary bottlenecks are avoided.
    • Integration with Jira: Jira Portfolio is dynamically integrated with your Jira Software project data and constantly pulls your latest data from Jira Software, allowing you to plan your projects with updated information.
    • Envision scenarios: Create what-if scenarios and save them to Jira if you decide to adopt them.
    • Reporting: Share capacity reports and more to allow team members and stakeholders to gain visibility and insights into the process.
    • Task completion estimation methods: Estimate how long a specific task will take and compare these estimations with the actual time to completion to help assess team performance and efficiency and improve the accuracy of estimation calculations over time.

    Reviews from Real Users

Jira Portfolio stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its roadmap creation tools and its flexibility.

Meeta L., a lead product manager at a tech vendor, says, “The valuable features of the JIRA Portfolio are the customization it provides which is very useful and the Agile project management capability.”

Juan P., a senior IT project manager at Avantica, writes, “Portfolio helps us increase the visibility of projects' status and management with remote workers who make up most of the company.”
