We primarily use the solution for a wireless connection for our hotel and resort.
System Administrator at Aquatec
Easy to deploy and offers great pricing but upgrades happen too often
Pros and Cons
- "It's very easy to deploy."
- "We'd like them to improve aspects of device management."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The solution offers good management.
The maintenance of the product is very simple and straightforward.
It's very easy to deploy.
You can see everything on one dashboard.
The product can scale well.
We have found the solution to be pretty cheap.
What needs improvement?
The product makes upgrades too often. They are always changing things. It can be hard to keep up.
We'd like them to improve aspects of device management. For us, for example, some of the access points are managed by a Ubiquiti controller, and others are managed by an AirMax controller.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've used the solution for six or seven years. We've ended up staying with it for a long time.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Some solutions are stable. Others are not. Maybe we don't use the right ones and we have to change them and put them in the right place. It's possible we are using non-appropriate devices.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable. It can expand well.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've only used this solution. I've never used, for example, Cisco or Aruba.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution offers pretty good pricing. they aren't expensive. I'd rate the cost at a four out of five in terms of value for money.
What other advice do I have?
I'd rate the solution a seven out of ten. We are mostly satisfied with the product.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Network Engineer at Thunder Software Technology Co., Ltd.
Low-cost, easy to use, and straightforward to set up
Pros and Cons
- "The stability and performance are great."
- "This might not be the best solution for a very large organization."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution for wireless connectivity to the internet in the office. You can roam around and stay connected easily.
What is most valuable?
It's a good option for SMEs.
The stability and performance are great.
It's very easy to use.
The initial setup is fairly straightforward.
The costs to use the product are very low.
What needs improvement?
This might not be the best solution for a very large organization.
They can continue to improve their offering so that they could be used in the future in large enterprises also. It only uses the local connection and it performs to a lesser extent due to this. It's hard to check on things remotely. For example, if I have a branch office somewhere in another city or even another country and someone tells me that something is wrong with the wi-fi or firewall, if I have a good wi-fi solution (for example Cisco or FortiNet), I can simply connect to an access point there. With Ubiquiti, I cannot do that.
There seem to be no access points in Ubiquiti that allow us to use a double link. There is no link redundancy. If a link fails, I lose an access point.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for a few years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable and the performance is good. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This is a good solution for small and medium-sized enterprises and not more than that. It might not scale to the needs of very large companies.
We have up to 100 users at this time.
We will likely increase usage in the future.
How are customer service and support?
I've never had any issues with the product and therefore have never contacted support. I can't speak to how helpful or responsive they would be.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
At a previous job, I did work with Cisco. It's hard to compare the two. Cisco is simply on a different level.
How was the initial setup?
While it can cause some problems in installation if you use a software controller, it's actually pretty easy. If you are familiar with the network protocols it is straightforward.
There's only one person that handles deployment and maintenance tasks. That's me. It's pretty low-maintenance.
What about the implementation team?
I can handle the initial setup myself.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution is relatively cheap. I personally don't pay for the licensing and therefore can't speak to exact pricing.
What other advice do I have?
We are working with the latest version of the solution right now.
If a company is looking for a low-cost option, I would recommend this product.
I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. We've been pleased with its general capabilities overall.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Installation is easy and the coverage is good, but we have issues with performance and support
Pros and Cons
- "This access point provides internet to every lab on campus, including the computer laboratory"
- "One of the Ubiquiti access points broke down, and it can't be used. It's still down now, so overall Ubiquiti hasn't been a good experience for me."
What is our primary use case?
Ubiquiti is deployed in the five-floor building that houses the integrated laboratory for my vocational school. This access point provides internet to every lab on campus, including the computer laboratory.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using Ubiquiti since 2015 or so.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
One of the Ubiquiti access points broke down, and it can't be used. It's still down now, so overall Ubiquiti hasn't been a good experience for me.
How are customer service and support?
We're extremely disappointed with Ubiquiti support. We need more local support.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Negative
How was the initial setup?
Installing Ubiquiti is easy.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Ubiquiti Wireless five out of 10. I wouldn't recommend it.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Reasonable pricing and very stable but needs better integration capabilities
Pros and Cons
- "The ease of the setup is one of its most valuable aspects."
- "The solution needs to improve its features and offer more to the customer."
What is our primary use case?
I used it briefly, primarily for a small deployment. That included the controller and a couple of access points. The deployment took place over the course of a few months. It was just for wireless connectivity in an office setup.
What is most valuable?
The ease of the setup is one of its most valuable aspects.
The pricing is excellent. The controller is actually free and we pay for the access points only.
What needs improvement?
The solution needs to improve its features and offer more to the customer.
The integration capability needs to be a bit more robust.
The active directory is where they could do some more work.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for a while, here and there.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Where I have used this solution, for the use cases I've dealt with, I've found the solution to be quite stable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. Its performance is reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
For a small deployment, they are very good. I haven't used them in a very large deployment, and therefore can't speak to its scalability.
That said, it's my understanding that you can definitely add more access points if you need to.
The latest deployment was for an office of about 20 people. It's not a big job by any means.
How are customer service and technical support?
I haven't had any reason to connect with technical support and therefore cannot speak to how helpful or responsive they are.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not overly complex or difficult. It's very easy to set up. That's a great selling point, actually. The implementation rolls out very simply and it's quite straightforward.
The entire installation is very quick and takes less than an hour to execute.
We have two admins and four engineers that can handle deployment and maintenance responsibilities.
What about the implementation team?
I can handle implementations on my own. I do not need the assistance of a consultant or integrator. It's pretty simple to do.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is very reasonable. It's not overly expensive. The way you are charged is as follows: the controller is free; we simply pay for the access points only. It's very affordable.
You just have the one-off initial cost. You don't have to pay a monthly fee or anything like that.
What other advice do I have?
We're using the latest version of the solution. I can't speak to the exact version number, however.
In general, I would rate the solution at a six out of ten. It's a decent solution.
I'd recommend the solution to other users or companies that need a smaller-sized deployment. It's a cheaper option and would work well for them.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Priced well, centralized management, and quality monitoring
Pros and Cons
- "I have found the most valuable features to be the ability to use the main centralized administration process and the internet."
- "We use different models of the solution but in some cases, the security could improve in the adaptive portal, be a little more robust, and easier to use."
What is our primary use case?
We use the solution to connect our buildings and stations together.
What is most valuable?
I have found the most valuable features to be the ability to use the main centralized administration process and the internet.
What needs improvement?
We use different models of the solution but in some cases, the security could improve in the adaptive portal, be a little more robust, and easier to use.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for approximately 10 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
One of the best features is that the solution sends you constant alarms when you have problems with the service organization. It is stable but could improve.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of the solution is good. Our clients are typically medium-size businesses. Our clients frequently tell us to install Aruba from HP, Cisco, or Juniper. They see this solution as best suited for small enterprises. We have to explain to them Ubiquiti is working on the security and stability of their wireless network.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support is very poor, this is an area needing improvement. It is difficult to find someone qualified here in Latin America to have an answer to our problems. It can take up to three days for someone to come with a possible solution. We end up browsing the internet for solutions to our problems rather than waiting for support.
How was the initial setup?
The installation was not easy. The documentation was not straightforward and they were not complete. They need to improve on this. We had to navigate the internet to find solutions to many of our issues. There was not one place we could have all the information needed for the installation to go smoothly. The deployment took approximately three days.
What about the implementation team?
We do the implementation of the solution. We use one technician and an engineer to do the maintenance and deployment of the solution. The typical time it takes is approximately one day to make an analysis of the information, find security risks, and make a solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This solution is cheaper compared to others.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Our clients have evaluated HP and Cisco solutions. They are really expensive. We have to find a solution that has a certain level of quality, that can monitor well, and has good security, this solution matches those needs.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution. However, they need to work on support services.
I rate Ubiquiti Wireless an eight out of ten.

Senior Site Reliability Engineer / System Administrator at a hospitality company with 51-200 employees
Provides reliable and stable connectivity, comes with a free controller to check device connections, and offers enterprise features at a cheap price
Pros and Cons
- "I like the fact that you can set it up like a wireless connection. Previously, we used to connect from one SSID to another. When we started using Ubiquiti, everyone was so happy because even if they moved from one place or another, say from the pantry to a meeting room, they didn't need to connect manually to another SSID. This is one of the features that I really like about it. It is doing a great job. It offers a free controller that you can use to see if the devices are connected or not and if they are up or down."
- "There should be an easier way to contact the support. If we need to do something on it, it will be easier and faster if there is a support number to call. Currently, their support is mostly through email or chat. If there is a hotline that you can call directly, that would be good. It will really help a lot. They should also include more after-sales support. They can maybe also provide more details on what's happening with the network."
What is our primary use case?
We use it mostly for our office network.
How has it helped my organization?
It helps the employees in doing more work. While moving from one place to another, especially for the meetings, it is really important to have a reliable and stable internet connection. Ubiquiti gives them a comfortable feeling while working in the office.
What is most valuable?
I like the fact that you can set it up like a wireless connection. Previously, we used to connect from one SSID to another. When we started using Ubiquiti, everyone was so happy because even if they moved from one place or another, say from the pantry to a meeting room, they didn't need to connect manually to another SSID. It offers a free controller that you can use to see if the devices are connected or not and if they are up or down.
What needs improvement?
There should be an easier way to contact the support. If we need to do something on it, it will be easier and faster if there is a support number to call. Currently, their support is mostly through email or chat. If there is a hotline that you can call directly, that would be good. It will really help a lot. They should also include more after-sales support.
They can maybe also provide more details on what's happening with the network.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution since 2013. That's roughly eight years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is really stable. We've been using it for the past eight years, and so far, everyone is loving it. We have no complaints. Now, all our offices use Ubiquiti, which proves how stable it is.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is pretty scalable. It is easy to scale. Whenever we need more access points, it is easy to set it up.
We have roughly 200 users with mixed roles. We have engineering, finance, HR, customer service, and CEO. In terms of increasing its usage, we just upgraded last year. We are in a good position right now. If our company expands, we might add or upgrade our network.
How are customer service and technical support?
Currently, their support is mostly through email or chat. It would be good and helpful if there is a hotline that you can call directly. They should have direct contact numbers just like other enterprise companies. For example, Cisco provides a dedicated person with whom you can speak.
How was the initial setup?
It is pretty straightforward. Even non-technical people can set it up by following the videos on YouTube.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I like the fact that it offers enterprise features at a cheap price. If you compare it with Cisco, it has most of the features that Cisco has been offering but at a lesser price. I am satisfied with its price.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did evaluate other products. One of the reasons why we chose Ubiquiti was its pricing and licensing. For other enterprise brands, you need to pay on a yearly basis. The controller has a cost as well. With Ubiquiti, we got enterprise features for a cheaper price. It was more than enough.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution to others. You can never go wrong with Ubiquiti because it is already proven and tested, and there is no need to do POC on it.
I would rate Ubiquiti Wireless a nine out of ten.

Useful dual band, low cost, and scalable, but old firmware unstable
Pros and Cons
- "Having dual-band is important. Having compatibility with very old equipment on certain frequencies, for example on 2.4 and 5.8."
- "I would like to see more cloud features that some of the other competitors such as Cisco Meraki have that are very nice."
What is our primary use case?
We use the solution for big houses and sometimes in hotels.
How has it helped my organization?
This solution has helped my organization a little bit.
What is most valuable?
Having dual-band is important. Having compatibility with very old equipment on certain frequencies, for example on 2.4 and 5.8. On the 2.4 frequency, there are a lot of things in the house that uses it, sometimes old TVs cannot connect to the new technologies but they work fine with this solution.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see more cloud features that some of the other competitors such as Cisco Meraki have that are very useful.
In an upcoming release, I would like to see faster updates and advancements.
Cisco product can show you all the traffic on the cloud, what kind of traffic, who is connected, and who disconnected. They have a lot of statistics, all the Mac addresses and IPs. You can see a lot of information. Additionally, It is very easy to find some specific equipment. For example, what port is connected and what others do not. If you also put some switches from Meraki, you also will have a lot more features, plenty of more. That is why it is expensive but it's the best definitely. This solution should take some of the beneficial features from those two solutions I mentioned and upgrade.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used the solution in the past 12 months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
When we upgrade the access points to the newest version, it does not work all the time, when this occurs we need to roll back the firmware.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable. The eight-person IT department is using the solution as well as everybody else because they use wifi, approximately 32 employees.
How are customer service and technical support?
The customer support is satisfactory. Sometimes the support would rather the customer use the technical chats or forums that they have. They do not always take the call.
I rate Ubiquiti Wireless customers support an eight out of ten.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have used previously Cisco, IronNet, and Ruckus. I have found Ruckus to be the best.
How was the initial setup?
Sometimes when you are trying to set up the access points it comes with old firmware which makes it have problems when setting it up on the controller. It can be very difficult. However, if the firmware is not too old it will work fine.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
If you do not have a big budget, you can use Ubiquiti, it is cost-effective.
What other advice do I have?
Those wanting to purchase solutions try and balance between the price and features, with this solution it is very cheap in comparison with Cisco and Ruckus. For example, if you are looking for houses best suited, the high-end houses are a good fit. For companies, they might have a larger budget to invest in more expensive equipment. Ubiquiti for houses is more than enough.
I rate Ubiquiti Wireless a seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Good range and relatively easy to install, but stability can be problematic at times
Pros and Cons
- "The range is usually pretty good, which is the most important thing to use because more or less, all wireless access points are the same."
- "Better security is important because we need to have some degree of control over who is connected and how we can restrict the level of connectivity."
What is our primary use case?
We have offices scattered around the building and some of them may be used for phoning in to access conference calls. Also, when someone comes in with a laptop, they can be wirelessly connected to our network. This is easier than using a wired connection.
What is most valuable?
The range is usually pretty good, which is the most important thing to use because more or less, all wireless access points are the same.
What needs improvement?
The stability can be problematic but in general, it is okay.
Better security is important because we need to have some degree of control over who is connected and how we can restrict the level of connectivity. We have been catching people who are abusing their access.
Extending the ranger further would be even better for us.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Ubiquiti Wireless for between five and ten years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is not always stable, unfortunately.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
In my office, we have approximately 100 people using wireless. Not all of them are using the service at the same time.
How are customer service and technical support?
We have not been in contact with technical support. Rather, we rely on ourselves.
How was the initial setup?
It takes between a few minutes and an hour to install an access point.
What about the implementation team?
We have a technical team of trained people, in-house, for deployment and maintenance. We are a public institution, so we don't always have the best technicians due to salary issues. But, if we were to consider the technical aspect then I'd say that we need to strengthen our skills.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
