A browser-based user experience, the elimination of the need for system experts, and cost savings due to not requiring hardware
Pros and Cons
  • "Odoo operates on a subscription-based model, ensuring access to the most up-to-date version at all times."
  • "The range of choices and functionalities has space for enhancement."

What is our primary use case?

We are an accounting company that collaborates with small and medium-sized businesses, offering our expertise and consulting services to analyze their business models and information. This analysis helps in making IT changes and transformations aligned with their business plans. There are several reasons why we recommend companies adopt web-based solutions.

One of these reasons is the cost savings achieved by eliminating the need to invest in hardware infrastructure. The second reason is the avoidance of the necessity to hire system experts. Lastly, because the installations are not reliant on our hardware, the state of our infrastructure becomes inconsequential. As long as our PC is operational, regardless of the operating system it runs, and as long as we can open a browser, we can access Odoo. Similar to how CMS systems work for platforms like Webex, Odoo functions as an ERP accessible through a browser, much like Amazon and Ali Express. Odoo ensures continuous communication between accounting and the warehouse, facilitating swift and efficient communication that doesn't consume excessive time.

What is most valuable?

There are three valuable features of Odoo: a browser-based user experience, the elimination of the need for system experts, and cost savings due to not requiring hardware.

The licensing cost is also significantly lower and can be adjusted based on the number of users we possess.

Odoo operates on a subscription-based model, ensuring access to the most up-to-date version at all times.

What needs improvement?

The range of choices and functionalities has space for enhancement. For instance, Odoo currently only accommodates one barcode per item. However, in reality, if an item is being exported from China to Europe and then from Europe to the United States, that item can have multiple barcodes.

Odoo operates in a distinct manner compared to traditional ERPs. It involves utilizing modules that can be developed by third-party partners like ourselves, which can then be placed on the Odoo marketplace. Numerous functionalities within Odoo have room for enhancement, a progression I'm confident will occur due to its recent entry into the ERP market when contrasted with the classic ERPs dating back to the 1980s. This is the reason why certain features they offer are comparatively less extensive than those found in the classical ERPs.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Odoo is consistently available online. The only stability concern our clients might encounter is in cases where they experience local power problems and lack a backup generator to support their operations. Organizations that utilize laptops and UPS, for example, do not face any stability issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Odoo is highly scalable.

How was the initial setup?

I would rate the initial setup of Odoo a five out of ten. The deployment never takes less than one week. To input all of our company information into Odoo, requires extensive planning over several months, if not years, depending on the scale of the operation. Following that, there's a process of extracting data from the ERP for testing, creating training materials for the staff, conducting tests once again, and finally deploying the system. For instance, consider a small company consisting of thirteen individuals who have recently graduated from high school and are aiming to initiate a car service. In their case, they can have the system up and running in a matter of hours, similar to other ERP systems.

To commence the invoicing process, we must input all our sales items along with their names, followed by the corresponding barcodes and prices into our warehouse management system. Additionally, we need to enter both our incoming costs and profit margins.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We pay based on the number of users and the amount of data, which results in a lower cost.

I would rate the price as a one out of ten, with ten being the most expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Odoo eight out of ten. My primary concern is the necessity to depend on third-party developers for modules, as we are uncertain about their long-term objectives and reliability.

For small and medium businesses, it is advisable to wait for Odoo to align with the features offered by classic ERPs, instead of investing millions in infrastructure.

For companies undergoing a transformation, the decision to use Odoo is not merely based on the potentially time-consuming nature of the deployment. Instead, it revolves around the consideration of long-term costs and benefits. This is because Odoo eliminates expenses related to hardware, software, and human support.

Odoo does have some questionable aspects. Although they are performing admirably in their field, they do have third-party modules. This setup is quite similar to CMS systems, where third parties contribute additional modules. Odoo doesn't develop many of these extensions themselves; instead, they depend on their partners for that.

We've never had issues requiring the use of Odoo's technical support. If we conduct thorough research and prepare well-formulated questions for the vendors in advance, we will have a clear understanding of what we're dealing with. So, sometimes, if there is a known bug, it might not have been deployed in the system yet. Alternatively, it could be a lack of functionality, which we can suggest as an improvement, or it might involve a third-party developer. In such cases, we might express a need for a particular feature or tool and then await the release of a new software version. It's not necessarily a problem with the platform itself; rather, it's often about missing features. However, it's important to note that Odoo is continuously growing and improving. They are expanding and enhancing their offerings every day.

Offers everything we need in one system, has well-integrated modules, and is priced well
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the helpdesk module, and I like the simplicity of integration among their modules. All the modules are very well integrated, and you can move among the modules in an easy way."
  • "It has been difficult to adapt to continuous changes, you have to understand what is new and what is changing in less than twelve months. You can take advantage of the new features, but you have to research them to be able to implement them."

What is our primary use case?

We are a partner of Odoo in Venezuela. We implement Odoo for our clients, and we also use it in our own company. We use Odoo to handle all the administrative processes in the business. We use the helpdesk module to take care of our customers' needs and support their needs. We can also control all the work that we have with them, what we are waiting for, what is open, and what we have to close on priority due to an emergency.

We use the project module for the implementation process. We prepare the steps of the implementation. We also use other modules. We use, for example, CRM for the relationship with our customers and the business that has been brought for the implementation of the tool. We also work with production or manufacturing companies to implement Odoo.

We are working on version 15, but we are coming from version 13.

What is most valuable?

I like the helpdesk module, and I like the simplicity of integration among their modules. All the modules are very well integrated, and you can move among the modules in an easy way. It's user-friendly. The information that I have is secure and stable across all the modules. It offers everything we need for the business in one system. Everything is integrated, and there is consistency.

What needs improvement?

It has been difficult to adapt to continuous changes, you have to understand what is new and what is changing in less than twelve months. You can take advantage of the new features, but you have to research them to be able to implement them. I will recommend keeping a version for two or three years, releasing minor changes, and then launching a new version with all the features. The release duration should be a little bit longer. The development teams should adapt quickly to these continuous changes.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Odoo for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's very stable. We didn't have any technical issues with it. We didn't have any technical issues in the cloud. We didn't have shutdowns or any issues with losing data. It's very stable. I'd rate it a nine out of ten in terms of stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's easy to scale. It scales very well. We can start with two or three modules and then integrate more modules in an easy way. It's highly scalable. I'd rate it an eight out of ten in terms of scalability.

In our company, we have 35 users because we use Odoo for our core system, and our customers have more than a thousand users.

How are customer service and support?

As a partner, we have a direct way to interact with Odoo, but we have customers who have used Odoo's customer service, and they received answers very fast. I'd rate their support a seven out of ten. It's good, but it can be improved.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We came from SAP in Venezuela. We used to implement SAP, but SAP left the country due to issues in Venezuela. We started looking for an ERP to help us in our business, which is to implement ERPs.

How was the initial setup?

We are a partner of Odoo in Venezuela, and we implement Odoo for our clients. It's easy to implement. Once you understand the relationship between different modules, you can set it up in a short period of time. I'd rate it an eight out of ten in terms of the ease of the setup.

All of our customers currently are on the cloud. Its implementation duration varies. We do the presentation for two months, and then we have the implementation for nine months to twelve months. It depends on the number of modules and the complexity of the customer. We have some customers who don't know their processes very well, so we have to spend a lot of time with them at the beginning to discuss their processes and their data before we start to implement it. On average, in four or five months, you can set up and start taking advantage of the fully implemented system.

The number of people required for implementation varies, but generally, it doesn't require more than five people. Usually, there are one or two functional consultants and a project leader. There may be one or two developers for localization and other things.

What was our ROI?

We have seen an ROI. We have the opportunity to see how our customers receive a return on this investment. They have improved and standardized a lot of processes. They changed manual work to automated work.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Its pricing is well-received in Latin America. They sell by the user. In October 2022, they changed the way they sell Odoo. They commercialized Odoo. They now sell by the user. The cost of a user is $13.5 five per month for Latin America, which is lower than other ERPs.

We have to split the cost of the solution into two parts. The first one is the license cost from Odoo, which is a subscription method, and then there is the project pricing, which is a one-time cost for setting up and implementing the system. The license is a subscription for which you pay annually.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated Dynamics and a few others. In the end, we decided based on the price, the business solution, and how easy it was to learn how to work with it.

What other advice do I have?

While implementing any ERP, not just Odoo, you have to know your processes very well. You need to know your processes before you start to implement any ERP. You need to know what you are going to set up. If you don't know what you need, you are going to have problems.

Overall, I'd rate Odoo an eight out of ten.

A great solution for customer relationship management, accounting, sales and human resources modules
Pros and Cons
  • "It's convenient that we have an all-in-one holistic solution."
  • "There are features that cannot be opened in the community edition and from a user perspective."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for customer relationship management, accounting, sales, human resources modules and the basic modules for a company. We deploy it on public cloud.

How has it helped my organization?

We have all our information centralized and automated based on finance, accounting, and purchase flows. It is more organized within the company so it has prevented us from struggling with information disseminated in different PCs or computer folders. Through this, we can pull the information from one application containing all the information needed for running our company.

What is most valuable?

There is no particular feature we find valuable as we find the whole solution valuable because it's an enterprise solution with several modules. It's convenient that we have an all-in-one holistic solution.

Each year they launch a new version, and the user experience is really good. The solution is complete and it has more than 60 modules. You can go to the community and explore more than 400,000 applications from any person that decides to develop the application. So it's a comprehensive community that adds value to the product.

What needs improvement?

There are some modules, like documents, that can be included in the community edition because they have the most important features in the enterprise edition. Sometimes, there are features that cannot be opened in the community edition and from a user perspective. We would like to have all the modules in the community edition and enjoy all the functionalities.

For example, when we are trying to use a document function for scanning an invoice, we need to buy credits for each invoice, which can get a little bit complicated. Hence, they can simplify the business model for credits related to certain specifications or modules.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have used the solution for three years and are currently using version 13.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

How was the initial setup?

It takes between eight hours and a day to deploy the solution.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented the solution in-house, and maximum of staff are required for deployment.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the solution an eight out of ten. The solution is good but can be improved by simplifying the business model for credits related to certain specifications or modules.

We use the solution for many purposes, including HR, CRM, Contact, data management and holidays.

What is most valuable?

What needs improvement?

The import of terms and conditions needs more handwork.

For how long have I used the solution?

How are customer service and support?

The customer service’s response time and quality could be better.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have experience with SAP. SAP is powerful, but it is complex and expensive for most of the requirements. Odoo is less powerful than SAP but is much more user-friendly.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is simple. We started with Software as a Service hosted by Odoo, which runs very easily. When you make any adjustments, they charge for every line of code. This is a disadvantage, but there is no cost once you leave software services hosted on your server.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the product’s pricing a ten out of ten, where one is expensive and ten is cheap.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Easy to implement, cost-effective, and efficient
Pros and Cons
  • "Being open source, it is more affordable compared to alternatives like Oracle or SAP, and I appreciate how easy it is to customize with the available sources."
  • "Odoo has room for improvement in industry-specific features."

What is most valuable?

I like Odoo because it is an effective and cost-effective solution. It is easy to implement, and in Egypt, where I work, it is great because it relies on our current resources. Being open source, it is more affordable compared to alternatives like Oracle or SAP, and I appreciate how easy it is to customize with the available sources.

What needs improvement?

Odoo has room for improvement in industry-specific features. Currently, customization often relies on hiring a system integrator or buying additional add-ons. It would be beneficial if Odoo could develop more built-in features tailored to specific industries, reducing the need for extensive customization. This would enrich the overall offering and make it more versatile for businesses.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Odoo for a few years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate Odoo's scalability at an eight out of ten. It is highly scalable and a good solution for small to medium-sized enterprises. In my company, approximately 11 users are using Odoo daily.

How was the initial setup?

I would rate the easiness of the initial setup as a six out of ten. Deployment took a few days. Maintenance only requires one person who follows up with us. We use a WhatsApp group to open tickets, and they take care of fixing whatever is needed.

What was our ROI?

I have seen a quick return on investment with Odoo. Typically, results are noticeable within a year of internal investment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Odoo's pricing is average.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate Odoo an eight out of ten. It is the best solution for our current needs.

With good customer support in place, it allows its users to efficiently deal with their sales-related activities
Pros and Cons
  • "The product is stable...The product is scalable."
  • "The solution lacks local API support. Also, it lacks some database integration platforms. In short, it lacks an API integration platform."

What is our primary use case?

I use it for my company and for my customers. So, I used the solution for a project in the USA and later for a retailer. The solution is used as an ERP tool.

What is most valuable?

The way the solution deals with POS, inventories, sales, and procurement are some of the features of the solution.

What needs improvement?

The solution lacks local API support. Also, it lacks some database integration platforms. In short, it lacks an API integration platform.

Also, we have a very strong Bitnami platform, and we need integration with Odoo. In the future, I would like Oddo to consider an omnichannel API integration with Bitnami's local platform.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have experience with Odoo for three or four years. Also, I don't know the version. I am a customer of the solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

My customers are mostly SMEs.

The product is scalable. I rate the scalability an eight out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is good. I rate the technical support a seven out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The deployment is complex because we need so many customizations to fit our business. Also, it affects the solution's cost. Since it requires a complicated effort, we deploy it.

For the implementation, three stages are followed in the first phase. For its implementation, we follow a book and apply the standard deployment procedures mentioned in it. Then, we work to set up the plans and goals before doing the customization. After that, we work out a plan to implement and deploy the solution. Four to five people are required to carry out the deployment procedure. So, we usually help your customers to implement it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution's pricing should have been lower. So, Odoo should consider reducing it by another twenty percent. Currently, we pay around 5000-6,000 USD per month, though I am not sure. We have to pay additionally for maintenance and support.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Pros and Cons
  • "Odoo is a cost-effective tool for performing core ERP functions, such as inventory management. It's also good for manufacturing use cases."
  • "Odoo's automation and workflow design tools could be better. It has some limitations compared to other ERP solutions like SAP. What is our primary use case?

I am a consultant providing Odoo for my clients. I help my clients automate workflows. They have workloads that are hard-coded, so we need to go beyond the limitations and start connecting all those through APIs with an automation engine.

What is most valuable?

Odoo is a cost-effective tool for performing core ERP functions, such as inventory management. It's also good for manufacturing use cases.

What needs improvement?

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

How are customer service and support?

I rate Odoo support six out of 10. This is another area where Odoo can improve. They lack services.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

What other advice do I have?

I rate Odoo eight out of 10. It's an excellent platform that offers a great balance of cost and benefit.  I recommend finding a reputable partner to implement Odoo. If you try to skimp on consultants, they may perform a faulty implementation that requires you to start from scratch.
