Mule Anypoint Platform Valuable Features

VS
Delivery Head at Cblsolutions

The most valuable features for us are flexibility, all the features related to connectivity with multiple connectors to the business, and the flexibility of on-premises and cloud deployments. And the new things for the CI/CD process that MuleSoft is coming up with, like App Connector or Connected Apps, are something that we like. We are actually not using it yet, but we are exploring Connected Apps.

Using the solution was great. It was part of the project that we didn't worry that much about. What I also liked about it was that even though I'm not that technical, I could go in and look at thoughts and events and confirm that the information we were looking for was making it across. I could check at the interface level and lessen the burden on validation within the application.

The instrumentation within the solution is important. The ease of implementation is very important. Our partner development team had little trouble dealing with these diverse systems, with JSON on the one hand and SOAP on the other. The product’s ability to seamlessly translate protocols is great. The API-led connectivity is great.

The reason that we took on the product was that we wanted to learn about it. We wanted to figure out how to use it. A big payoff for this will be in EHR integrations. These systems are all alike, yet they are all different. They all use EPIC, and each installation is a little bit different. It’s a challenge when we go to different hospitals. MuleSoft has made a name for itself in using the integrations.

With Mule Anypoint Platform, there is a hybrid cloud deployment model, meaning you may have an on-premises environment or a MuleSoft-supported cloud platform called CloudHub. Users can deploy APIs using Mule Anypoint Platform, as it acts as a single point or place. Users can deploy the APIs from Mule Anypoint Platform to an on-premises environment or CloudHub. Mule Anypoint Platform integrates with CloudHub. In general, Mule Anypoint Platform helps to deploy the APIs and CloudHub. When we talk about the APIs, there are multiple policies one can apply on APIs, like rate limiting policies, OWASP policies, and OWASP security policies, that can be easily configured in Mule Anypoint Platform. Users can apply the policies via Mule Anypoint Platform and deploy the APIs to hybrid cloud deployment models, like on CloudHub, making the tool very helpful for users.

Mule Anypoint Platform has a good feature for batch processes where the internal tool handles everything. You don't have to handle it by yourself. If you have a large amount of data that needs to be processed, then batch processing is a very helpful part of Mule.

The product is quick to deploy and pretty straightforward.

It can scale.

The pricing is pretty good.

This is a good platform for designing, flowing out APIs, and then doing API-based integrations. It also offers a lot of adapters for commercial products like Salesforce, SAP and the like. It has good monitoring abilities. If you use it for API management, security monitoring and things like that, it works well at the experience API layer.

In our company, we have some other ETL tools but comparatively, MuleSoft is much more compatible in many other ways for data transformation. MuleSoft can handle a lot of different types of data. So even if something is not available, there are some workarounds, and this is professionally advantageous.

I have a lot of resources as a developer and I don't want to always ask Mule for help. There are a lot of online resources which can be referred to easily even as a beginner, which is a positive.

Most of the people who work here are long-term employees who are much more versatile in German, than English, and MuleSoft supports the local languages. That was one of the positives and was why Mulesoft was considered beyond its scalability and other functions. Whenever we need some support in our local language, we get it easily. They also have an office in Germany and if a person is unable to contact them by phone, they can go to the office in person.

Self Employed/Independent at a consultancy

MuleSoft offers with the Anypoint Platform a unified platform for API management and an integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) as well as an on-premise Enterprise Service Bus pattern.

The iPaaS and API management are offered on CloudHub, MuleSoft's SaaS offering, and is located on Amazon Web Services. API management and the iPaaS run-time can also be deployed on-premise or in a private cloud. The run-time manager, Anypoint Runtime Manager (ARM), for monitoring and alerting on the run-time is located by default on CloudHub (AWS).

The API management capabilities are very mature and allow an organization to re-use microservices. It enables efficient self-service for connecting (external) API consumers through Anypoint Exchange. The API Manager includes out-of-the-box policies that can be used for rate limiting, throttling, and security.

The platform support High Availability, High Reliability and High Performance if the required patterns and network topology are followed.

The platform offers over 200 standard connectors for applications and technology, such as HTTP(s), databases, SOAP, XML, and REST, as well as premium connectors for SAP, HL7, EDI, etc.

Integrations are configured visually by dragging and dropping them on a canvas, but they do sometimes require some coding by Java, .NET or Groovy.

The API management, iPaaS and on-premise ESB run-times are based on the same source code and allow an smooth in-time move to iPaaS, if desired, with minimal changes to the existing configuration and code.

The recent Q3 2017 'Crowd' release of the platform included the flow designer, a browser based visual zero-code IDE for citizen integrators, and additional functionality for API management.

As I have used more ESB features, I have grown to love this more than an API gateway. Developing and exposing your API using Mule ESB is also quite interesting and easy to use.
