Juniper MX Series Routers Room for Improvement

We'd like them to be capable of adding firewall options to the license.

In the next version, I'd like to see a load balancing and SD-WAN solution altogether in a simple manner.

There is room for improvement in the pricing, as they are quite expensive, but they are very good routers.

Finding market expertise is hard. Not everybody is familiar with Juniper's technologies like Cisco. The product could provide complete decoupling between the control plane and the data plane.

The pricing is a bit too high.

It's hard to get hardware support. For this reason, we may move in a different direction.

Juniper Enterprise Routers could improve by adding a graphical user interface(GUI). They do not have one. Most of our team has to have a background or expertise in Juniper. When compared to other solutions, they have a GUI. It will be easier for new team members to get familiar with, configure, or set up the router. Additionally, adding some monitoring tools would help us.

Currently, I don't have specific concerns or ideas for improvement. Regarding functionalities, I appreciate the user interface of Juniper Elite. Additionally, I'm exploring the use of Juniper Routers in a Parliament environment, particularly with Baragon, and so far, I find it to be a valuable feature.

We're currently facing an issue as we're in the process of building and dealing with the software, specifically transitioning from R2 to RC. It's like when there is an update in the routers, and in the process, there are chances to end up losing some of your settings. The challenge arises because the recommended configurations for RC do not align with our features, necessitating a reevaluation of many features. It would have been more efficient if the initial recommendation had been for RC, avoiding the need to redo our research. This has resulted in a loss of time for us, and we've encountered this situation multiple times.

There are areas for improvement in Juniper EX Series Ethernet Switches. One aspect that could be enhanced is the pricing; many clients acknowledge the quality of Juniper switches but find the pricing challenging, especially when compared to competitors like Huawei.

Additionally, from a feature perspective, there's a desire for improved clarity and ease of configuration in Juniper switches. Some users find it difficult to understand and configure certain aspects, necessitating the use of external tools. This complexity, especially for Internet service providers, can be a barrier. Addressing these concerns could further strengthen the position of Juniper switches in the market.

Identifying areas for improvement is tricky because Juniper's MX Series routers are a great fit for our needs. The Commit and Rollback feature, in particular, outshines what Cisco offers. While it is challenging to pinpoint specific areas for enhancement, there is room for better support and updates for Ansible. Having more up-to-date Ansible resources and open tools for independent use of telemetry data would be valuable, along with maintaining or improving support for integrating Juniper with external solutions.

We haven't had any issues with the routers. Everything has worked well.

We'd appreciate it if they had a better GUI. It would be more flexible for the customers that way. For example, MicroTik is more popular with customers based on its better GUI.

Juniper is the end of the software-defined network. There are more popular routers. Right now, the leaders are Cisco, Arista, and Huawei. Juniper has to chase them and catch up to their offerings.

I'd like to see a router that is supporting, for example, HD-1.

If you are using the Enterprise Router in a service-positive network the features they offer currently are enough. If you use it in a data center, maybe you need a supporting VX-1 or something like that to be part of the vTAP configuration for this router.

The initial setup is not easy.

Juniper can work on their capacity, and ability to support BGP protocols. The functionality is limited in Juniper. There is a disruption in the convergence of network change. There is also a change in license which needs to be looked at after each time. Automation can also be improved.

If you are setting up a site-to-site VPN between a Juniper and Cisco device then you may encounter some issues. Cisco devices need to use a GRE tunnel, which is not needed on Juniper devices. Juniper runs directly on it, and it is called a Secure Tunnel Interface.

The technical support varies by region and can be slightly improved.

One thing that the product can do better is clustering. Rather than just having two of them, it would help if there was one cluster to extend to more notes in the cluster itself.

I can't think of any features that are missing in the product.

As with almost any product except for something that is already free there is always room for improvement in the price. If you wanted to use some type of server, you have to buy the license. I would like to see more options for free, legal usage of features.

In terms of improvement, I would like for it to effectively protect against the broadcast storms, multicast storms, and DDoS attacks.
