We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The ability to integrate with a great variety of data sources.""The company dashboard is useful because we could share it via a link as a reminder for everyone to check it weekly. We observed the progress of our portfolio from last week to the current week, allowing us to compare revenues.""The solution is free so that is a good feature.""I am impressed with the tool's scheduling mechanism, refresh mechanism, and different types of charts.""I find it favorable regarding speed of development, ease of building, and flexibility.""Valuable features include advanced integrated analysis and easy implementation.""The ability to design complex data models and equations.""Data Studio integrates seamlessly with other Google products, and we can use it with other APIs if we like."

"The action feature which Tableau has is very useful for us. If we click on one visualization, it will pass the value to another visualization. That interactivity within different visualizations is the most valuable feature of Tableau.""I like the calculation feature. I would not say it's such a good feature in Tableau, but if you have the knowledge, you can make that feature visible to everyone. It's not a feature that we can drag and drop and get the information. But whatever the data, whatever the calculation, I'm able to do. It's basically the knowledge base. Whatever knowledge I have, I can make that information public and publish it for management.""The most valuable feature is the 3D charting.""The most valuable feature is the richness of its visualization and from a self-service standpoint, the ease of use.""The best thing I like about Tableau is that you don't have to go for creating; it is calculated free.""Tableau is good for routine dashboards, and it has integration with Slack, through which it can send you daily updates.""It is so easy to do a lot of things. There is a lot of flexibility and creativity in this product. In other products, you don't have this flexibility.""It is easy to adapt visualizers to have interactive conversations among decision-makers."

"I like the way I can share dashboards and embed dashboards. I normally use embedding. So, I create a dashboard, and I embed it into specific websites. Sharing of the dashboard is seamless, and it is easier than any other visualization platform, even Tableau.""Scheduling of reports and dashboards is the most valuable feature of Zoho Analytics.""The data source is the most valuable feature as it can perform any function.""We moved the data from Zoho Creator to Zoho Analytics and created reports.""We really like that it's user friendly and has a lot of combinations and charts. They're good compared to other tools. We used a free Elastic product, comparatively, this solution is good because of their support, UI, and connecting to databases is very easy.""It's a very strong analytics tool.""The front end of this solution including the graph generation using SQL has been most useful.""The solution’s dashboard is very good."

Cons
"When you physically install a product on one machine instead of the cloud, you have a better visibility, best icon quality, etc.. It's more of an issue with how we are adapting to the transition. We are still in the early moments of using this tool, and we need to go deeper to discover some improvements.""It's not yet a replacement for a complete BI tool.""There are issues with integration and I encountered limits and warnings, especially with my pivot table size.""Insisting on forums, blogs and community outreach in communications, and posting videos on an established calendar would be useful.""The tool should come up with data modeling layer features that are present in other products like Power BI.""Panels are not as easy to use as other data extraction UIs.""Other tools might be worth considering if you need more advanced features or support for a larger user base.""Stability and scalability an be improved for a full ten."

More Google Data Studio Cons →

"Other tools are more competitively priced.""The setup was easy but we are having some problems with the configuration that is taking a long time. We have done some initial tests and some of the delays could be from bandwidth issues. However, the whole installation process should be simplified.""I don't have the ability in Tableau to create a tooltip and see the picture of a piece of jewelry or watch that is a best seller.""The integration with other program languages, like Python, needs to be better.""Lacks machine learning algorithms that you can implement using R, SPSS Modeler, and Python.""It needs a little bit more advanced modeling. I would like to see functionality like Cognos has in the Framework Manager.""If they could add global filters in the stories, more chart types, and default colours, it would help.""Provide additional enhancements in any business process: Operations, Marketing and Sales, Finance, Human Resources, Logistics, etc."

More Tableau Cons →

"The platform's pricing needs improvement.""This solution does not support manufacturing facilities.""There should be more types of graphics available for use in the reports.""The tool needs to improve analysis and add more features.""The customer service and support for this solution could be improved by faster response times.""It would be great to have more user input fields which can be used on dashboards.""A higher degree of artificial intelligence could be included in this solution. The data and overall insights could be improved.""The solution does not provide call center facilities for customer support."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The tool is free."
  • "The solution is free but the Google Looker is expensive."
  • "The cost is quite affordable based on feature analysis."
  • More Google Data Studio Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "For big business, Tableau could be expensive as having a lot of Tableau server users (entering with a browser to reports) could be a bit expensive."
  • "Best advice on pricing is to anticipate the desire for more licenses once the results of this product are acknowledged in other parts of your company."
  • "Paying for users you never setup or buying expensive desktop licenses for users who can solve their users with web editing on the server are the two biggest expenses."
  • "Buy 50 at a time. Project your use base every three months, and project your requirements forward."
  • "Tableau can be costly (but this can be indefinable, such as user experience vs. cheaper etc.)"
  • "I wish there was more of a subscription model with the pricing when it comes to Tableau, so you can get all the latest version upgrades/features if you pay monthly/annually."
  • "The cost is high."
  • "Deployment of dashboards to viewers and unit supervisors can be prohibitively expensive."

  • "I would recommend looking at your usage and whether the Zoho One license model would work for your organisation. It is very cost effective if you use other Zoho tools."
  • "An exact ROI is hard to calculate. However, we have definitely made sales that would have been much harder, or unlikely, as a result of the speed with which we were able to prepare comprehensive analysis."
  • "I don't feel that price is an issue for this product."
  • "It is very reasonable, and it gives me a good return on investment. Compared to other tools, it is the best choice in terms of pricing."
  • "This solution is reasonable as far as pricing is concerned."
  • "The price is high. The solution advertises that it provides products for 55 AED per user, but these products contain only the basic features. Most of the features are locked. The version of the product that includes Zoho Analytics costs around 199 AED per user per month."
  • "For one license the pricing is about $35 a user."
  • "Zoho Analytics costs $ 4,200 per month, billed yearly."

After a recent presentation, several attendees asked me about the applications of Visual Insights and Tableau. Many companies are investing in both tools and are trying to figure out the right tool for specific applications Tableau has found its sweet-spot as an agile discovery tool that analysts use to create and share insights. It is also the tool of choice for rapid prototyping of dashboards. Tableau is very flexible with its data import. Tableau's data blending capability is very intuitive. This capability is useful when you have data spread across several different sources that has not gone through ETL processes. This is a problem analysts deal with routinely. They are unable to wait for the data warehouse team to develop ETL processes to provide the physical models they need to build an analysis. The Tableau interface is Excel-like and has a low barrier to entry for analysts that are used to working in Excel. Building a dashboard by mashing up visualizations in a Tableau worksheet is extremely simple. Users are able to build good presentation-quality dashboards in a very short amount time. Tableau's annotations capabilities and its time and geographical intelligence are key differentiators. Tableau has overcome limitations in data sharing with the introduction of a Data Server in Tableau 7.0. The Data server allows Data sources and extracts to be shared securely and opens up interesting new possibilities. If your application can take advantage of the above… Read more →
