We performed a comparison between Cisco ISE (Identity Services Engine) and ExtremeCloud IQ based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Network Access Control (NAC) solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The most valuable feature is the ASDM - the user interface makes it very easy to configure the firewall."
"Cisco ISE is a powerful solution. It gives us the ability to control who's accessing our network, and Cisco has made it very easy."
"My team has gained a lot from Cisco ISE as it does also provide automation, which is a big asset in the eighth hour. After setting it up, it took a lot of the weight off in many ways. We have a co-worker, who we call the ISE Master because he's in charge of the ISE configurations. He's able to save a lot of time by being able to monitor everything from there. So it did take off a lot of time that we would waste by going individually to that different device and trying to figure out what was wrong."
"One of the most important features is the authentication security for the individual connection to the network through their computer or laptop."
"The implementation is very simple."
"The RADIUS Server holds the most value."
"With NAC, the profiling feature is valuable. We're able to see what we have out there in the network and dynamically assign policies to it. We can then use that to enforce TrustSec policy or anything else with NAC."
"TACACS and .1X security are the most valuable features. TACACS acts for user control, so no one can authenticate to our network devices, and .1X is to validate that unauthorized devices are plugged into our network."
"The HiveManager integration with the VPN Gateway is awesome."
"HiveManager is extremely easy to use for anyone with little network experience."
"Ability to assign zero trust policies from the user."
"Its configuration and deployment are the most valuable."
"Extreme is transitioning to 802.11ax facilities running the 2G and the 5G cloud, allowing for higher density in education use cases, and ExtremeCloud IQ provides you with novel ways to manage everything. In the old days, you used to have a controller on-site for your access points, but everything is easier now."
"ExtremeCloud offers features that not a lot of other vendors do like their data storage and the ability to swap licenses."
"ExtremeCloud IQ is an intuitive platform. The tool's ability to streamline network operations depends on the end customer. Sometimes it's quicker, and sometimes it takes much longer. It helps me to address network problems."
"It allows me to see APs and clients that are having issues, allowing for faster support response and less downtime."
"The interface could be more user-friendly and the ability to apply rules to MAC addresses, for example, if I wanted to allow a certain MAC address access at a particular time I cannot make this adjustment."
"One of the issues that we used to have was with profiling because we're working with a service provider that uses a lot of bring your own devices."
"The opinion of my coworkers, and it's mine as well, is that the user interface could use some tender loving care. It seems counterintuitive sometimes. If you go to the logs, it's hard to figure out which one you need to look at."
"The policies could be adjusted to make them more easily implementable."
"The one main thing that it can improve on is the GUI. As the newest addition to the team, I struggle a little bit to get around it just because it has so many features."
"There are still some bugs in ISE that need to be worked out."
"Troubleshooting and multi-ISE can be challenging with the solution."
"In a future release, I would like to see network access control. That is something that customers seem to be looking for."
"The licensing model could be improved."
"We'd like to have a cloud dashboard from which we can see all devices."
"I know a school district, a big school district of mine, ripped out Extreme due to inefficiencies. It was the guest network that can be a struggle. They tried to differentiate between their primary network, and then offer a secondary."
"Their firewall configuration gets funky and it can be difficult to understand."
"A room for improvement in ExtremeCloud IQ is roaming. My team is facing roaming issues with the solution, particularly when using VoIP over WiFi. For example, VoIP sometimes breaks when you walk around the customer site. In terms of what I'd like to see in the next release of the solution, right now, the inventory for ExtremeCloud IQ is awful. There's no stock, and you must wait a year and a half for new stocks. It's awful."
"ExtremeCloud should invest in an SD-WAN solution or integration with SD-WAN."
"Pricing is a bit expensive."
"The solution's performance needs to be enhanced because of a very high delay."
