We performed a comparison between Barracuda Intronis Backup and Microsoft DPM based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Deduplication Software solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The cloud side of it is nice. Everything happens behind the scenes without you realizing it, which is nice. It doesn't interrupt usage. There is also the freedom and ease of use of the cloud portal, which you can use to manage your backup. One of the strong points of Barracuda is that you can go from zero to having your first backup running within 10 minutes. If you have access to admin accounts and everything else, it can happen in 10 minutes. The ability to go in and just restore a particular file without having to do a full restore is also very useful. You can just go in and pick the files that you need to restore, and the same is with email. You can just go in, find an email, and restore that email without having to do a full backup of all the data or a full restore of the data. I feel very safe because it is not just about the backup; it is about the protection of the data from outside threats. They have a lot of areas of ATP, that is, advanced threat protection. You don't see that much on the backup side. You see it more on the email side. In the email protection, you know it is there at the back. It moves the quarantine emails that come through into a sandbox area, and then you can choose in the sandbox. You can open up an email in the sandbox to make sure that if there is a virus, it can't harm you. You can also plan how often your backups run, such as every six hours or four hours. It is the same with email. They also have a great PhishLine package, which is phishing attack training. You can have the strongest and the best backup and security that you can, but the end user is always the weakest link. They send almost like testing emails to end users to help them identify and understand phishing emails and prevent user or phishing attacks. It is a very good package."
"Its interface is intuitive, and it is easy to use when I am restoring files. Barracuda does a really excellent job at compression, which makes it very efficient. Eight years later, I am only halfway through to the capacity, which is very good."
"It is very reliable, so we don't have any issues with it. Our customers have never raised any issue with it. Basically, once you set it up and it is running, it is trouble-free. Our customers are happy. They just got a renewal for the subscription for the service."
"The superior support from Barracuda in setting up, using, and helping with issues for the product."
"Whenever you have a crash or your service is not working, you can just live-boot the machine and have your service up and running."
"Easy, immediate protection for data that is virtually infinitely scalable."
"The most valuable feature is unlimited data storage on the cloud. Even if the employee has left the company for a few years, the backup will still be maintained."
"The configuration and the onboarding process are pretty good."
"The user interface is very good. The reporting and monitoring features are also good."
"It has an application backup, a file backup, a system backup and a hypervisor."
"This solution helps us to manage all of the operations across servers and different workstations."
"The most valuable feature is that DPM has an index so individual files can be searched."
"Its capability to give a BMR for all the workstations that I want to connect to."
"It is almost perfect for Microsoft products. It is not a very powerful tool, but it is okay for small sites and small businesses with Microsoft products. It is easy to use for backup and restore. It is good for backing up Microsoft servers such as Exchange and SharePoint servers."
"I could back up all the stuff we had, even the VMs we have for Hyper V."
"The most important feature is that it's easy to use."
"I would like to see the automatic backup of critical applications to the cloud."
"The backup feature could be a bit simpler to utilize. They should make the process of backing up individual files simpler."
"I would like to see a way to increase space."
"When we manage the box physically, we don't have as much control as we do when we manage from the cloud. The best management is from the cloud."
"The tool is not user-friendly. The solution should also improve its compatibility. It is also not license-based."
"I would like to see the Live Boot feature extended to Hyper-V machines, in addition to VMware machines."
"The solution depends on your connectivity, so it is essential to have a proper connection to the cloud."
"Compared to Avamar and Data Domain (our other systems), the backup speed is slow."
"Additional Hyper-V knowledge would be great."
"The problem lies with the 2019 version, it's the file system they’re using."
"The user interface can be improved quite a bit."
"We can't take a snapshot and take it outside, which is a problem."
"You have only a few settings and if you change them for some special configurations, it's very difficult."
"It would be better if it integrated seamlessly with open source and competitor products. In the next release, I would like to see some data governance frameworks. It should have support features for data integration and data replication like Veeam. Right now, we are also using Veeam for certain scenarios."
"The data tagging feature needs improvement. The solution could be a bit more intuitive in certain aspects."
"The user friendliness could be improved."
