SAP HANA Cloud is a multi-cloud database as a service (DBaaS) used to develop all the applications - Analytics, Predictive
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is virtual modeling, which is beneficial because you don't really save the data multiple times the way we did in the past."
  • "This product is not mature enough at this point in time."

What is our primary use case?

I have an analytics background and I perform work for my clients using this product.

There are many use case for HANA cloud, One of them is a type of Data Mart, and my clients use it when they don't want to invest in a complete data warehousing solution. A data warehouse would be expensive, and using this product will offer them that type of functionality.

For example, if there are customers and they only have a requirement for few reports, they don't have to invest in bigger data warehouse products like SAP BW. That would be a considerable and expensive investment. Instead, the SAP HANA Cloud would be a better choice because since it is much cheaper than the other options. Please note it is not replacement for BW or any data warehouse.

How has it helped my organization?

There are many applications for HANA cloud. One of them, can act as Data Mart, this solution is useful if you're looking for a set of reports that need to be done, and you don't have a data warehouse, one can bring all the data from different sources model them in HANA cloud and expose them to SAP Analytics cloud to build an end to end solution.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is virtual modeling, which is beneficial because you don't really save the data multiple times the way we did in the past. If you want to make changes to the logic, you can change it virtually and it does not affect the data that has been stored. It's on the fly, so if you want to change something then it does not much affect the existing object.

There is functionality included for predictive analytics.

For merging and massaging data, this can be an option.

What needs improvement?

The over product features are good to start with, currently it may not have all the features of the on premise HANA solution and over the period of time , SAP will add additional features as needed.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the HANA Cloud for six months.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Since this product is on cloud, it can be extended any time.

How are customer service and support?

The SAP technical support is Good. It can definitely be improved.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup  for HANA Cloud is very straightforward, but connectivity to other  systems are challenging and initially it may take some time to understand and needs good amount of time .

What was our ROI?

HANA cloud is not like customer has to buy the high priced hardware, they can initially try how it suits to their organization for small price and once done they can go for longer contracts.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing fees for this product depend on what you pick. If you choose the minimum, it will probably cost around $1,500 USD per month if you take a contract for a year or two, it will go down If you buy in bulk, there will be a larger discount.

What other advice do I have?

It is important to remember that this product is not a replacement for a data warehouse. We can use this as a Data mart/data lake.

It does have additional features such as predictive analytics but again, it is not meant to replace the data warehouse.

This is a product that I recommend for others. It is powerful, without a doubt. In time, I think that it will be mature enough to handle more situations.

I would rate this solution a eight out of ten.

Flexible with minimum downtime and regular scheduled updates
Pros and Cons
  • "There's a minimum amount of downtime when using the solution. This platform is very effective."
  • "The customer has a lot of dependencies on SAP which means they don't have much flexibility to go and update the system when or if they need to. They will need to wait for the quarterly updates. It's possible to maybe raise a special request with SAP if it is absolutely necessary."

What is our primary use case?

Similar to Google and AWS platforms, SAP has its own cloud and we use it for deploying ERP systems on top of the cloud. Most of our clients need to move to the cloud with preconfigured items.

Our specialization is the migration of the entire SAP ERP on-premise solutions to the Cloud.

What is most valuable?

The solution does provide quite a lot of support, upgrades, automated batch updates, etc.

It's a more flexible platform for the customers who are looking for ready-made solutions and support.

It is managed and supported by SAP.

There's a minimum amount of downtime when using the solution. This platform is very effective.

The most important aspect of the solution is the feed. If a company manages heavy enterprise applications and they need to generate a C level report, specifically for CEO or CFO level reporting and financial budget reports, it's very good. While on-prem takes a long time, this solution is ten times faster.

The customers get upgrades every quarter. There's often zero downtime for the customer because the upgrades will happen at night or over the weekends and will happen through the cloud.

What needs improvement?

The customer has a lot of dependencies on SAP which means they don't have much flexibility to go and update the system when or if they need to. They will need to wait for the quarterly updates. It's possible to maybe raise a special request with SAP if it is absolutely necessary.

Occasionally, we're not able to provide the services our client wants. SAP should offer some flexibility in terms of configuration modifications. Some activities should be able to be performed by the service provider.

There's a concern about the localization of the data centers. For Dubai based customers, there's a lot of concern about the location of them. We need our own local data centers to manage all of the services. These platforms should be flexible enough based on the region. For example, in Europe, there's GDPR, but in the Middle East, this shouldn't apply.

SAP charges for third party integrations, and this shouldn't be the case. There should be simpler integrations with third-party platforms.

For how long have I used the solution?

Our company has been using the solution for approximately five or six years. I've personally worked with SAP for 15 years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We haven't heard of any issues with stability. Our clients haven't complained about having any issues. It's good, as far as we can tell.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is a bit of an issue. It needs to be improved.

Right now, we have 1,000 users on the solution. It's used mostly for large-scale enterprises in the government sector and defense.

How are customer service and technical support?

We've been 100% satisfied with technical support. They've been great. Our customers are extremely satisfied as well.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. It's not complex at all.

What about the implementation team?

There is 100% dependency on the system integrators. There are a lot of interfaces that are run by the customers. The landscape can be complex and it is not a straightforward cloud migration model. If a client has a lot of interfaces and there are a lot of dependencies on the third-party systems within the landscape, system integrators will be required for sure.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's a bit expensive compared to lead other platforms because the support is directly from SAP.

The solution offers yearly contracts as well as three and five-year contracts that are a little bit less expensive. Technical support is included in the pricing.

There are, however, integrations and third-party tools that need to be taken into the cloud and the solution charges extra for those.

What other advice do I have?

We're providing services on this solution.

If a company is looking for the latest innovations, products from SAP are what they will want. There are also seamless integrations. It is a really good product.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

A flexible platform with good support and minimal downtime
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution does provide quite a lot of support, upgrades, automated batch updates, etc."
  • "Our data centers are in Europe and come under GDPR regulations, and this doesn't apply to the Middle East yet. It causes a lot of confusion."

What is our primary use case?

SAP's Enterprise Cloud platform is basically used for deploying the SAP ERP systems on top of the cloud. Most of the customers we have want to move onto a cloud with pre-configured setups. Our specialization is the migration of entire SAP ERP on-premise solutions to the cloud.

What is most valuable?

The solution does provide quite a lot of support, upgrades, automated batch updates, etc.

It's a flexible platform for customers who are looking for ready-made solutions and support.

The solution is managed and supported by SAP.

The most important aspect of the solution for our client is the feed. If you manage the heavy enterprise applications and need to generate a report, a C level report, for CEO or CFO level members of the organization, it's ten times faster than the on-premises option.

There's minimum downtime during migrations. This platform is very effective.

Only every quarter will customers need to get system upgrades or patches. This happens mostly at night or on weekends, lessening downtime even further. The updates of the system will happen through the cloud. It is a very good feature for the customer.

What needs improvement?

There are a lot of dependencies on SAP. A customer doesn't have much flexibility to go and update the systems as they wish. SAP dictates this. If a customer needs an update immediately, they won't get it; they'll have to wait for the quarterly update.

Sometimes we are not able to provide the other services that a customer wants. SAP needs to offer some kind of flexibility in terms of configurations and modifications from the customer standpoint. Some kinds of activities that SAP monopolizes we should be able to perform, for the customer as a service provider.

There's a concern about the localization of the data centers. For a Dubai-base customer, there are a lot of concerns. We need our own local data centers to manage all of the services. Instead, there are various data centers all over the world. The lack of localization is a concern.

Our data centers are in Europe and come under GDPR regulations, and this doesn't apply to the Middle East yet. It causes a lot of confusion.

The solution charges money when companies integrate other solutions. There should be a simpler, cheaper way to integrate.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for five or six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Clients don't seem to have issues with stability. We have not heard of any stability problems.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of the solution isn't ideal. It's something that could be improved upon.

Right now, we have more than 1000 users on the product.

The solution is perfect for big enterprises such as the Government Sector, as well as defense. It is highly used by these customers.

How are customer service and technical support?

The support that is provided is excellent. We have no complaints as to the level of support we've been given.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. We didn't find any complexities in the process.

What about the implementation team?

There is 100% dependency on system integrators. If the landscape is complex and it is not as straightforward as a cloud migration model, and there are a lot of interfaces and a lot of dependencies on third-party systems within the landscape, system integrators are necessary.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There are licensing fees, but no ancillary costs on top of that. Users won't have to pay extra, for example, for support. They have contracts for three and five years.

They do, however, charge extra for integrations.

What other advice do I have?

If a customer is looking for the latest innovations or products from SAP this solution is perfect for them. It also offers seamless integrations with other players.

There are companies that you can use to layer on top of it. You can take the AWS platform and then put SAP on top of that. Or you can take Google cloud, or Azure, etc.

It's a bit expensive compared to lead other platforms because the support is directly from SAP. However, it's quite good support.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

Performs well, and has good processes
Pros and Cons
  • "The processes and the way we take advantage and use assistance are good."
  • "Perhaps minor changes to the enterprise structure could be made, but the rest is fine."

What is our primary use case?

We use HANA for Enterprise, development, and Central Finance, which is also on HANA.

What is most valuable?

We are very happy with this solution.

The processes and the way we take advantage and use assistance are good.

What needs improvement?

Perhaps minor changes to the enterprise structure could be made, but the rest is fine.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud since 2017.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We don't have any issues with the stability of SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud is a scalable solution.

How are customer service and support?

Moving forward, we need to upgrade to the new version, which will provide better support and agility.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We are weighing our options for migrating our main ERP system from CC to S/4 on the cloud, which was previously on SAP.

What other advice do I have?

We are in the process of digital transformation, but due to the current situation, things are on hold. The entire HANA project is currently on hold, but we are still using SAP and the ECC version of SAP.

I would suggest preparing for the project because it will require a significant investment of time, resources, and training.

I would rate SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud an eight out of ten.

They take care of the technical aspects of the data, installations, and patches
Pros and Cons
  • "One of the features that I've found most useful is that It's very simple. They take care of the technical aspects of the data, installations, patches."
  • "They should probably offer more cloud services. Most of the cloud infrastructure providers we have make everything pretty transparent, you know what you're getting, you have all these metrics and measurements and everything in the dashboard. Here you have to go through the contracting negotiations and all those things."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case is the SAP infrastructure hosting. We use SAP and we host it in the HANA Enterprise Cloud infrastructure in the SAP data center. It is a service from SAP. They host their SAP service on a private cloud and provide quite technical solutions.

What is most valuable?

One of the features that I've found most useful is that it's very simple. They take care of the technical aspects of the data, installations, patches and all those things, and I don't need to set up my data center. Once my business grows sufficiently when I need I can move to my data center and I can keep it there and I don't need to have a very serious or very senior SAP administrator.

What needs improvement?

There is always room for improvement. SAP manages it much better than many SAP applications but then they do it more like on-premise management. They're trying to improve on that but then they're not fully a cloud tool.

Maybe it is also due to the nature of the application. To some extent it is also due to the nature of the application. It can't be exactly similar to other cloud structure providers but it can be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud for three years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In terms of scalability, it is pretty good, it can scale up easily.

How are customer service and technical support?

In my experience, customer service is pretty good. It's very good. I could even upgrade the SAP system easily.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup, if you want something quick, is very, very good. If you want to have your SAP application quickly installed and ready for application implementation then this is very good.

What about the implementation team?

You just integrate your data with your local LAN network and then plug it in, and after that you implement it. The implementation for it is just like any other SAP implementation except that the technical aspects are mostly taken care of by SAP - technical and implementations, patching and all those things.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

SAP installs the system so you don't need to go and get your license, install and patching and all those things. It is very good from that perspective. You have to think of the responsibility role and the responsibility matrix and see if you want to negotiate for those additionally. It will be included in your contract.

It is also better to negotiate some services initially then you don't need to think about setup and things like that.

What other advice do I have?

Security is also pretty good because if you look at most of the SAP systems you do have secure access to SAP with support. Even when you're not on the Cloud they still provide secure access to SAP.

I would advise anyone considering this solution that they should get it. It is very technical, it is very good. One, it is very good and second, they don't need to have a data center to quickly get off the ground since it's everything under one solution.

On a scale from one to ten, I would rate HANA Enterprise Cloud certainly an eight.

To get it to a ten, they should probably offer more cloud services. Most of the cloud infrastructure providers we have make everything pretty transparent, you know what you're getting, you have all these metrics and measurements and everything in the dashboard. Here you have to go through the contracting negotiations and all those things. So mainly it is because of the specializing and connecting but overall customers need them for production then they simplify it.

Converts databases to multi-dimensional models that can be integrated with Power BI, but the setup needs to be simplified
Pros and Cons
  • "What I like the most is that we can convert databases into a proper multi-dimensional model, and then we can project with the integration with Power BI."
  • "The stability needs to be improved to be able to handle large amounts of data."

What is our primary use case?

We have several uses for the databases. We are using SAP Hanna and building more or less on top of databases using SAP Hanna Studio.

What is most valuable?

What I like the most is that we can convert databases into a proper multi-dimensional model, then we can project with the integration with Power BI.

What needs improvement?

Based on our customer's feedback, we have to see how we can get more from it.

The initial setup should be simplified.

The stability needs to be improved to be able to handle large amounts of data.

I have not yet found full documentation available for implementing the server, the database configurations, and integrating it with Power BI. There is no proper documentation available. It would be useful if there was proper documentation from the vendor.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using SAP Hanna Enterprise Cloud for five or six months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We had some issues with hanging if we were using a large amount of data.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I think that it is scalable, but we are still going through the projections. Based on business approval, we need to see how much data we are going to handle or if they have large databases, then we can scale.

The POC has been consumed by 12 members, they are IT admins and three to four business users.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have not contacted the technical support because we have our support team within our company.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously we were using Azure Cloud.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was not straightforward. The configuration was a bit complex which required the help of our admin team.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation was done with the help from our admin team.

What other advice do I have?

We have not yet explored all features and would have to check with the admin team for the additional requirements to further explore what additional features we may need for business cases.

I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
