SAP HANA Cloud is a multi-cloud database as a service (DBaaS) used to develop all the applications - Analytics, Predictive
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is virtual modeling, which is beneficial because you don't really save the data multiple times the way we did in the past."
  • "This product is not mature enough at this point in time."

What is our primary use case?

I have an analytics background and I perform work for my clients using this product.

There are many use case for HANA cloud, One of them is a type of Data Mart, and my clients use it when they don't want to invest in a complete data warehousing solution. A data warehouse would be expensive, and using this product will offer them that type of functionality.

For example, if there are customers and they only have a requirement for few reports, they don't have to invest in bigger data warehouse products like SAP BW. That would be a considerable and expensive investment. Instead, the SAP HANA Cloud would be a better choice because since it is much cheaper than the other options. Please note it is not replacement for BW or any data warehouse.

How has it helped my organization?

There are many applications for HANA cloud. One of them, can act as Data Mart, this solution is useful if you're looking for a set of reports that need to be done, and you don't have a data warehouse, one can bring all the data from different sources model them in HANA cloud and expose them to SAP Analytics cloud to build an end to end solution.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is virtual modeling, which is beneficial because you don't really save the data multiple times the way we did in the past. If you want to make changes to the logic, you can change it virtually and it does not affect the data that has been stored. It's on the fly, so if you want to change something then it does not much affect the existing object.

There is functionality included for predictive analytics.

For merging and massaging data, this can be an option.

What needs improvement?

The over product features are good to start with, currently it may not have all the features of the on premise HANA solution and over the period of time , SAP will add additional features as needed.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the HANA Cloud for six months.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Since this product is on cloud, it can be extended any time.

How are customer service and support?

The SAP technical support is Good. It can definitely be improved.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup  for HANA Cloud is very straightforward, but connectivity to other  systems are challenging and initially it may take some time to understand and needs good amount of time .

What was our ROI?

HANA cloud is not like customer has to buy the high priced hardware, they can initially try how it suits to their organization for small price and once done they can go for longer contracts.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing fees for this product depend on what you pick. If you choose the minimum, it will probably cost around $1,500 USD per month if you take a contract for a year or two, it will go down If you buy in bulk, there will be a larger discount.

What other advice do I have?

It is important to remember that this product is not a replacement for a data warehouse. We can use this as a Data mart/data lake.

It does have additional features such as predictive analytics but again, it is not meant to replace the data warehouse.

This is a product that I recommend for others. It is powerful, without a doubt. In time, I think that it will be mature enough to handle more situations.

I would rate this solution a eight out of ten.

Provides real-time time information with a scalable and stable backend, but requires additional decision making intelligence integrations
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is stable and we have never had a problem. We started with one terabyte of data when the solution was first implemented and today we have around almost 600 gigabytes of data, which means means the compression works properly. Before migrating from ECC, we had nine terabytes of data."
  • "The solution is scalable from an infrastructure point of view. However, it becomes more complex over time because technology is changing so fast."

What is our primary use case?

The main use case of this of this solution is in the order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, and record-to-report processes for a manufacturing and sales distribution company.

What is most valuable?

The solution is online and provides a real-time information feature, which makes a huge difference to the business, especially in reviews and meetings.

Additionally, the software helps with credit approvals and plant maintenance where a mobile application is used to obtain information quickly.

What needs improvement?

Additional features that should be included in the next release are more analytics and intelligent decision making tools, such as a WhatsApp chatbot.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable and we have never had a problem. We started with one terabyte of data when the solution was first implemented and today we have around almost 600 gigabytes of data, which means means the compression works properly. Before migrating from ECC, we had nine terabytes of data.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable from an infrastructure point of view. However, it becomes more complex over time because technology is changing so fast.

How are customer service and technical support?

I use the customer service/technical support line once or twice per month. I usually call to find out about new features. If I have an issue on the production-side, they respond immediately.

However, in some cases, they take time to respond with a solution depending on the scenario.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, we were using ECC, which is quite an old product. We wanted digital transformation and so we started using SAP Analytics Cloud.

We moved to SAP HANA to reduce the number of customizations. Previously, we had almost 3,000 custom programs that would run, maintain, and upgrade, which was a challenge. Now, we only have 400 custom programs.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing of the solution is on a yearly basis.

The normal price of the solution is quite high, but I received a special discount by making a purchase near the end of the year.

What other advice do I have?

Before purchasing the solution, it is important to have the buy-in from top management to drive the implementation. Additionally, the right people need to be put in place to implement the solution.

Integration is another consideration since it can be a challenge. Planning is essential to the success of the integration of SAP HANA.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Works as well as any other S/4HANA SAP solution, and the continuous support is very valuable
Pros and Cons
  • "This solution is as good as any other S/4HANA SAP solution. The continuous support we get is very valuable."
  • "The cost could be improved. I think it's higher than the competition."

What is our primary use case?

We are integrators of this solution.

What is most valuable?

This solution is as good as any other S/4HANA SAP solution. The continuous support we get is very valuable.

What needs improvement?

The cost could be improved. I think it's higher than the competition.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is fine. We have also worked with the HANA Public Cloud and of course, the solution for HANA Public Cloud solution is not as good as the other HANA solution, where we can host on Enterprise Cloud or any other cloud.

How are customer service and support?

I've been getting SAP support for the last 15 years. It's good.

How was the initial setup?

Initial setup is simple. For experienced integrators like us, we find other clouds also easy. I would rate the process 5 out of 5.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price is expensive compared to the competition.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution 8 out of 10.

These days there are a lot of other solutions or other options that SAP has provided, and SAP themselves are providing a choice of different clouds now. So, they have tie-ups with many of these providers in different countries. The     providers vary from country to country, but they have more options now than they had in the past.

I would always advise the customer to go to the other options because it's more expensive because of services that SAP provides. As an integrator, we provide some of those services, and some of those services provided by us at much lower cost than what SAP would be able to provide.

For my experience if ECC 6.0 has more than +3500 customized programs, starting from scratch is a better strategy than upgrading to S4H. ex., many fixed sales processes cannot be tuned due to the underlying ciucusmstance. Don't even think about improvement unless you have well plan for gap resolution to customer. Such efforts cannot be achieved solely by SAP  technical upgrade and practices.

Performs well, and has good processes
Pros and Cons
  • "The processes and the way we take advantage and use assistance are good."
  • "Perhaps minor changes to the enterprise structure could be made, but the rest is fine."

What is our primary use case?

We use HANA for Enterprise, development, and Central Finance, which is also on HANA.

What is most valuable?

We are very happy with this solution.

The processes and the way we take advantage and use assistance are good.

What needs improvement?

Perhaps minor changes to the enterprise structure could be made, but the rest is fine.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud since 2017.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We don't have any issues with the stability of SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud is a scalable solution.

How are customer service and support?

Moving forward, we need to upgrade to the new version, which will provide better support and agility.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We are weighing our options for migrating our main ERP system from CC to S/4 on the cloud, which was previously on SAP.

What other advice do I have?

We are in the process of digital transformation, but due to the current situation, things are on hold. The entire HANA project is currently on hold, but we are still using SAP and the ECC version of SAP.

I would suggest preparing for the project because it will require a significant investment of time, resources, and training.

I would rate SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud an eight out of ten.

Converts databases to multi-dimensional models that can be integrated with Power BI, but the setup needs to be simplified
Pros and Cons
  • "What I like the most is that we can convert databases into a proper multi-dimensional model, and then we can project with the integration with Power BI."
  • "The stability needs to be improved to be able to handle large amounts of data."

What is our primary use case?

We have several uses for the databases. We are using SAP Hanna and building more or less on top of databases using SAP Hanna Studio.

What is most valuable?

What I like the most is that we can convert databases into a proper multi-dimensional model, then we can project with the integration with Power BI.

What needs improvement?

Based on our customer's feedback, we have to see how we can get more from it.

The initial setup should be simplified.

The stability needs to be improved to be able to handle large amounts of data.

I have not yet found full documentation available for implementing the server, the database configurations, and integrating it with Power BI. There is no proper documentation available. It would be useful if there was proper documentation from the vendor.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using SAP Hanna Enterprise Cloud for five or six months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We had some issues with hanging if we were using a large amount of data.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I think that it is scalable, but we are still going through the projections. Based on business approval, we need to see how much data we are going to handle or if they have large databases, then we can scale.

The POC has been consumed by 12 members, they are IT admins and three to four business users.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have not contacted the technical support because we have our support team within our company.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously we were using Azure Cloud.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was not straightforward. The configuration was a bit complex which required the help of our admin team.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation was done with the help from our admin team.

What other advice do I have?

We have not yet explored all features and would have to check with the admin team for the additional requirements to further explore what additional features we may need for business cases.

I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud
