The tool supports a large volume of transactions compared to other databases we've used. One feature that had a significant impact is Oracle Data Integrator. It allows us to transfer data from the enterprise database to the data warehouse. This is useful for creating different data sets for finance teams and other departments.

Oracle Database offers encryption and decryption features, which help avoid cyber attacks. It is easy to transfer data from different countries to one location. This helps us provide information to higher management for decision-making.

For Oracle's 12c version, the database in-memory enhances query performance by storing data in a columnar format. This makes it faster to access and analyze large datasets. It improves data warehousing and analytics surrounding the API.

Although we embed in MS Azure, the overall cloud technology improves software/hardware revision, database partition extension, data file reallocation, and multi-thread instance issues. For most DBA concerns, Oracle helps resource revision and reduces the efforts of software and hardware ever-upgrading.

The thing that probably stands out the most about Oracle Database is reliability. I have been working with Oracle Databases for over 25 years, and I have never lost any data due to a machine going down or any events that were not stupid human tricks. I've never lost anybody's data using Oracle. It gets the job done and doesn't fail.

It does what I want it to do. It has got a lot of features. Anytime I need a feature, I am able to find it in Oracle Database. It has never happened that I found a feature in any other database, but I was not able to find it in Oracle.

The solution has been around for a long time, so it's very mature. We've used various versions, from 8 to 12 c. The RDBM has a strong reputation.

The solution is able to run on different types of machines, from IBM AIX to UNIX.

The solution has very robust integrity due to how it is designed and implemented.

The security is very tight. Users can be very sure of Oracle's safety. It has a variety of different security layers that make it very, very safe.

Oracle offers a great disaster recovery tool called Oracle Data Guard, which is fantastic.

The solution has very good failover capabilities. You can do it manually or automate the process if you like. It's all very transparent.

You can query around the rack as well you call it the rack cluster. There's great availability. It helps to handle high availability within the nodes. Even if you have a problem with one server, the others are still available and will continue the job without going down.

We work in a back-end environment that is mission-critical, and we cannot afford downtime. Oracle is a perfect solution, as it will never go down. Customers will always be served at any point without experiencing a delay, which is of vital importance to banking.

Oracle is constantly working to improve its products. It now offers AI and machine learning capabilities to run queries.

There's lots of research and development being done constantly. This ensures they are always one step ahead of other databases.

The best features of Oracle Database Server are the security, high availability, and Disaster Recovery solutions with Data Guard. Specifically, on Autonomous Databases, the most valuable features are the automatic scaling and CPU scaling depending on the database workload. Today, the workload is normal and then suddenly the workload gets a spike.

There is a feature that allows the database to have more CPU processing and capacity. That's the feature that the Autonomous Databases provide. The feature that we like very much on Oracle Databases is the APEX, the platform which can be used without any cost to develop a very powerful application on Oracle Databases.

Oracle Database is running on the same old hardware that I had the 11g version on and it is operating faster. It seems to be really good. It's fast even when the workload is heavy, easy to do backups and other administrative tasks with the Enterprise Manager.

Oracle Database can automatically assign resources to threads that are heavy. We hardly notice when they are running a heavy query and it is better at managing memory than the older 11g version. When we use the same amount of indexes when migrating to 19c, I didn't have to do any other modification and we have increased usage on the ERP. The Oracle Database is handling everything very well.

  • Power of Oracle combined with robust Unix platforms like Linux or AIX makes it powerful and secure as compared to MS SQL on Windows

The most valuable feature is how evolved the solution is right now. It's been around for a while, and I think it's been servicing a lot of different use cases. I think it's really stabilized, evolved, and you can actually put it to use in multiple scenarios. It adapts itself just as well to most business use cases.

I think the best part about Oracle is it keeps evolving. It's not adding any more features to it. There's a big move toward custom cloud services - big databases in the cloud - and obviously there are people with apprehensions in terms of what will happen if that data is shared. They are working towards addressing that issue. They are kind of compartmentalized, and kind of made some of the domains private, to maintain the security for certain critical domains. You still have the power of using the cloud. That's the great thing about it: It keeps evolving. It doesn't stay still. It's very compelling.

It also provides reliability, in terms of handling large volumes of data. I don't believe there's another database server that people would pick. Given a choice, everybody would like to go with Oracle.

I think those are the two big features that really stick out.

Senior Hyperion Systems Architect at County of Loudoun Virginia

The best aspect of Oracle Database is that it allows integration of our ERP and EPM suite of applications and databases. It's integrated tightly together, and we prefer that, as we think it's best to stick with a single vendor as much as possible to avoid dealing with multiple vendors in case of any issue. We can scale it up, upgrade and it is supported by Oracle's customer support program. It is secure and reliable, which gives us peace of mind. If we went with a third-party tool, there's always the issues of compatibility. If we do upgrades and there are issues, we'd have to talk to both the third-party vendor and Oracle.

I think that avoiding complications and compatibility issues is the biggest advantage of keeping our Oracle ERP and EPM products together. I work with a lot of the compatibility settings, and Oracle has done a great job with the matrix inter-dependencies and patch-up ligation. For example, I just upgraded our Hyperion system so I had to got through all the settings and configurations for databases, browsers, Java, OS, and servers. I, as an administrator, have to have enough technical knowledge to understand all the inter-dependencies.

That's the advantage of using Oracle's RDMS solution -- we can use other Oracle products.

I'm going to be discussing the enhancements to the PL/SQL language in what I'm going to call the bad old days, what we did was we put all of our application code and all of our application objects into one schema. What happened when you would do that is you would have say a SQL injection bug in one piece of code and you could easily point it to very sensitive information. As a matter of fact, I believe Barclay's said 97% of the data leakage is from SQL injection.

Oracle made an enhancement to the language. They added two things that were very powerful. One was the ability to add roles directly to a PL/SQL package. The other thing they added was an accessible by clause such that if I am going to have objects in one schema, instead of granting access to those objects to an entirely other schema such as your app code, I can just grant the access to that object to the program that actually calls it so I could have sensitive objects granted to a sensitive access code. Anybody else tries to get to it, you're not going to be able to get to it.

Then they added one other thing because what you want to do is you want to layer your security. Then they said make it accessible-by. When you accessible-by clause in, the object that is granted access to it, it'll execute, but if anybody else tries to execute that package to get to the object, they're going to get failures. That is what's got me most excited right now about the Oracle language and what they've been working with.

The value is in locking down your data, every time we turn around, we see on TV, GAO got hacked. Somebody's losing their information. You have companies out there going, "We'll protect your private information if you ever lose your information." We shouldn't have to do that. As stewards of this sensitive data, we need to build a security solution around what's sensitive and now Oracle's given us more and more powerful tools in order to implement that.

So what happened is that today IT is facing a lot of challenges, because the data has grown so fast. They have to find a way to manage the cost, the performance, and the capacity. So that's why we have this strategy called information management: a strategy to manage this data within a reasonable cost.

Oracle 12C introduced these two new features, called ADO, Automatic Data Management, and Heat Map and combine together to implement information management in the database. We found that it is very useful to implement a tiered storage strategy. Today, we all know that SSD, (which) stands for Solid State Drives, really can help improve database performance by reducing a lot of storage IO bottlenecks. But it is not very cost-effective to put a large amount of non-active data into SSD because they  are not seriously impacting the performance, and also they tend to be in a large volume, and it can be very costly to put them in the SSD. That's why we introduced (the) tiered storage.

The idea is we put (the) active data in the tier one storage and put (the) non-active data in the tier two or three storage. We want to use ADO and the Heat Map together, to implement this tiered storage strategy. We found that it's very useful, because these features allow the database administrator to write a policy, and then, this feature will automatically move the data around you don't have to physically copy it, and the feature will do this for you. Your only manual work is to write policies. We already implemented this in one of our tiered storage solutions. We have this one, with the PCI storage, as the tier one storage. We also have the tier two storage using the traditional spinning disk. We used this ADO and Heat Map features to manage the data around the tired storage, and it turned out to work very well.

If you remember the old Saturday Night Live skit by the baseball player, Oracle's been very, very good to me. I chose to work with databases and specifically Oracle right out of college, the 80s. It was a right career decision. It took me this far. I'll probably get to my retirement on it. That's a pretty sound technology. Had I picked some other technology to bet on, I probably would've had to go through several different learning iterations. The Oracle Database scales well. Every time there's a new version they add the features that you are wishing they would add or finding that you need. They stay ahead of the game. A lot of times you'll talk to one of their product managers and you'll say, "Well, partitioning is great, but if it only did this," and they'll say, "Oh, well if you sign an NDA, I'll tell you." Legitimately, they've already thought of it and they're developing it, and a lot of times if you get into the beta program, you can participate in the development of those features. That's really unique. It's much better than say a community preview edition like other vendors would do.

The beta program, you sign up for and you're very proactive with it and you have direct access to people who are working on the beta itself. You can help drive the product direction and that's kind of fun.

Oracle Database has had a multiple-concurrent-user control system from the very beginning. Most enterprise database solutions have recently become aware of this. Oracle's approach was the true approach to isolate users. Databases have some isolation levels and some anomalies. Oracle's database has solved them in a very brilliant way. From the beginning, 20 years ago, Oracle solved those problems. It is the most ACID-compliant database.

It has a multiple-concurrent-user control system, and it is the most ACID-compliant database.

I have yet to see a time when my database crashed, for whatever reason, whether it be node crash or server crash, and Oracle didn't clean it up and it come back online as before. The way Oracle processes cleanup itself and comes back online is great. If one of the Oracle nodes in the cluster goes down, the others keep running, which we're very happy about.

Oracle is the premier relational database platform for enterprise environments. Any organization that purchases enterprise applications will likely have Oracle in place since so many applications require or prefer it.

The most valuable features of Oracle database from my perspective are:

  • Read consistency (all queries see a read consistent view of the database so that readers do not block writers and vice versa).
  • Data Guard: standby database, with options for maximum performance, availability and protection. I use it in full-synchronous mode to ensure a “hot standby” is available with zero data loss.
  • Ability to run non-Windows OS, particularly Linux.
  • Ability to monitor and tune; lots of instrumentation built in.

The most valuable feature we have found is the multi-tenancy. You can set up background processes and memory at the container level, not at the pluggable level. he second thing is, I can set up a disaster recovery solution for the container database, not at the pluggable level, so that if I have more pluggable databases, I do not need to worry about disaster recovery setup at the pluggable database level. I only have to set it up one time at the containment level. I can reduce my time, effort, cost, everything. I feel this is one of the best features in 12c, multi-tenancy.

Another valuable feature Oracle has released is the Flex ASM in RAC. In 10g and 11c, if something goes wrong for you with A, some instance, your database will go down. But in 12c, if something goes wrong for you with A, some instance, your database will not go down. You automatically use the next two machines, A, some instance. These are two wonderful features that we have used in database 12c.

One more very cool feature is called Information Lifecycle Management, ILM. It is one of the best features right now.

Tablespace Encryption: This feature helps in protecting your data whenever you share it. It prevents unrestricted access to data, no matter whether you are DBA or OS guy.

Cloudera Hadoop provides the scalable data architecture organizations need to manage increasing data volumes, though not the intuitive GUI for business users. Oracle Big Data Discovery (BDD) provides business users the ability to explore and analyze that Hadoop cluster to uncover data of interest.

The scalable data storage of Hadoop is the most critical feature, but without Oracle Big Data Discovery that data is difficult for business users to access without significant IT support. BDD relies on Spark and Hive to function so those are the next most valuable features of Cloudera Hadoop for me.

The support level is good and well-documented. I can go to the web and I can Google just about any problem I have.

The most valuable feature of the product for me is the Oracle MTA (Multitenant Architecture) because it can reduce dramatically the operating costs. And, it could lead to license cost savings depending on the aggregation of DBs.

First is operating cost down. There is a lot administrative work, even if there is only one DB, such as backup, tuning, monitoring and patching. DB Integration with MTA contributes to reducing operating costs. Using Oracle MTA, we can operate above actions to multiple database with just one operation. So we can reduce operating cost.

Second is license cost down. With Oracle MTA, we can reduce license cost. Because we can integrate MTA server(s) from a lot of Oracle servers.

The main, most important feature is the integration of the database, security, and performance. Those are the three main features. They have evolved it very well since version 6. It used to be rule-based, now it's cost-based, which is great because there are so many routes to bring in the data. It's a really complex architecture, and the way Oracle has done it is really good.

I work with a couple of other databases too, but with Oracle, it allows you to drill down to a very small level inside the database and return a result that you want. That's another pretty good feature.

Also, Database has low-level security through a virtual private database. Within the same database, we can show two businesses simultaneously without having a different architecture. This really helps us.

A lot of things like a low level security. One of the features that we use virtual private database, which is a low level security. Within the same data base we can show two businesses at the same time, without having a different architecture. It actually helps us.

Big companies and millions of smaller businesses need Oracle Database because it's secure. The implementation of services is good for data security in Oracle. Implementing higher availability is also good. Whenever one side goes down, the other side will be up. I like using Oracle Database in Oracle x86 Servers. This product has a number of features. The feature that I worked with and that excited me the most is one that is not available in other databases, and it involves the use of Java Runtime.

There is also a feature that will trace the transaction and direct them to an FTP server. That was excellent. It is provisioned with very little additional cost.

The feature I find most valuable about this solution is reliability. Whenever there was a problem, like hardware that failed, the data was still okay and not corrupted and that is very important for us.

I am also really impressed by the scalability of this product. For example, whenever we need to add new space, Oracle makes it easy to extend and increase our performance. We don't have any corruption issues and we can add new space and without having to restart our database.

We are only really utilizing the solution for database purposes and only taking the database for backup purposes, on a daily basis. The database and getting the required data on the database have been very helpful.

It's easy to use, it's robust, and it offers good security that we can count on.

Most importantly, our users are familiar with the interface and the operational capability of this product. That's why we chose to use Oracle.

While we don't interact too much with the database and interact more with our front-end application, we get good reports as it simply runs in the back end.

It's a very comprehensive database, although we are using only the standard version, not the enterprise version. Even the standard version is quite good. It's very reliable.

Lately in 12c, they've actually come out with an adaptive optimizer, which I think is great strides in getting performance and doing the right things in the database and getting those queries back to the end users just as fast as they can without a DBA having to do anything about it. A lot of the times the optimizer can now adapt and actually learn from itself and store that information off, so it's kind of an interesting implementation that they've done.

  1. Adaptive Query Optimization - enable the optimizer to make run-time adjustments to execution plans and discover additional information that can lead to better statistics. This new approach is extremely helpful when existing statistics are not sufficient to generate an optimal plan.
  2. Pluggable databases - allows you to put 253 databases into one instance of Oracle.
  3. Redaction Policy - The Oracle Database 12c provides runtime protection of sensitive data. The stored data remains unchanged, while the data to be displayed to the end user is transformed on-the-fly before leaving the database.
