Integrated time and attendance system is good, but many features require costly upgrades
Pros and Cons
  • "The fact that the time and attendance system is built into the HRIS is very valuable because, in the past, we had to use two different systems."
  • "Many things are presented as though they will be included with the system but then require costly upgrades."

What is our primary use case?

This system is our main HRIS and payroll provider. We have two separate payrolls, one for our hourly staff and one for our salaried staff.

How has it helped my organization?

Cloud-based systems are more convenient than the previous desktop system we used. The system still has a lot of bugs that need to be fixed, but it seems as though all of the payroll providers have similar issues.

What is most valuable?

The fact that the time and attendance system is built into the HRIS is very valuable because, in the past, we had to use two different systems.

What needs improvement?

The product they sell you is not the end product. Many things are presented as though they will be included with the system but then require costly upgrades.

Our implementations have been terrible. It's all smoke and mirrors.

Our employee benefits enrollment is managed through it, which makes for a limited manual process
Pros and Cons
  • "Our employee benefits enrollment is managed through Ceridian Dayforce, which makes for a limited manual process."
  • "Our current software program offers a home page with important company documents and a place for company announcements. Unfortunately, Ceridian Dayfoce does not offer this."

What is our primary use case?

We implemented Time and Attendance, Going live with Payroll, Benefits, Recruiting, Onboarding, and Performance Management. We needed a comprehensive HR software solution, and we found it with Ceridian Dayforce.

What is most valuable?

As the HR Benefits Director, the benefits module is my favorite. The ACA Tracking, FMLA, and COBRA management are on point. With our previous software management program, we were required to manage our processes manually exposing the company to possible costly penalties. Now, our employee benefits enrollment is managed through Ceridian Dayforce, which makes for a limited manual process.

What needs improvement?

Our current software program offers a home page with important company documents and a place for company announcements. Unfortunately, Ceridian Dayfoce does not offer this.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Our previous software provided us with many false promises. They "sold" us in scheduling, however underdelivered.

Ceridian Dayforce offers a solution with Time & Attendance scheduling, and the software fit our needs. Previously, we managed two software programs, having double entry for almost two years, before moving to the complete HR software package offered by Ceridian Dayforce.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see more built-in forms, like government issued forms (T2200). This would save a lot of time during the year-end process.

The use of the timesheets allow for real time information. Both the organization Manager/HR/Payroll and the employee can view the timesheet at any time in the process.

This allows for accuracy, along with saving time, paper, money, etc. The time away from work feature allows for us to utilize the reports on who has requested time away so we can schedule accordingly.

Having one HCM system allows us to pull data as needed for various reports. We can also schedule reports for ourselves and others who have a need to know.

Payroll processing time has been shortened using this tool
Pros and Cons
  • "The implementation was through a team assigned to us by Ceridian. They were extremely knowledgeable and it made the implementation go very smoothly."
  • "The time capture from time cards to charging to projects has greatly improved because it is now all automated and flows into the GL very easily."
  • "An area for improvement could be a little more testing before implementing hotfixes to make sure they do not interfere with any active customized products."

What is our primary use case?

It is primarily used as our payroll application. We also use a portion of this product for our HRIS.

How has it helped my organization?

The time capture from time cards to charging to projects has greatly improved because it is now all automated and flows into the GL very easily. Therefore, our payroll processing time has been shortened.

What is most valuable?

The features that we find most valuable are we can look at earnings on a live time basis and see if an employee has enough earnings to qualify for longer vacations with pay.

What needs improvement?

An area for improvement could be a little more testing before implementing hotfixes to make sure they do not interfere with any active customized products. Also, there are more import glitches with the new system.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

No issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

No issues.

How are customer service and technical support?

The tech support throughout the implementation was very good.

Now, we find if we have any problems that we get assigned a subject mater expert and have our problems solved quickly.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used Dayforce and InSync for payroll. We switched because we had a lot of problems with imports. We found that we were entering the same information into two different systems.

How was the initial setup?

We had already been using Dayforce time capture, so we were familiar with the basics of the program. This made the implementation straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation was through a team assigned to us by Ceridian. They were extremely knowledgeable and it made the implementation go very smoothly.

What was our ROI?

We paid for the implementation costs in the first year with the money that we saved by switching to Dayforce HCM.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We found the setup costs and pricing to be very reasonable. Also, the XOXO program associated with Dayforce allows you to earn credits towards registration and accommodations at their annual Insight Conferences, which can be a real savings to the company when sending employees to the conference.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did not evaluate other products because we had already moved to the Dayforce time clocks back in June 2012. We did have some users who have used ADP and JD Edwards. They found them to be cumbersome.

What other advice do I have?

The Insight Conference is a very good networking tool for companies to meet, discuss the product and all its possibilities with peers.

Our Company had implemented Ceridian HCM in late April 2017. We have noticed significant saving in costs, time to process payroll and paper savings in using the electronic features of the program for our employee.

It has transformed how we operate by saving us time, paper, accuracy, money, and the employee/supervisor experience
Pros and Cons
  • "We like being able to hire from the Dayforce recruiting module straight into Dayforce and having the file feeds go to our benefits vendor."
  • "Dayforce has transformed how we operate by saving us time, paper, accuracy, money, and the employee/supervisor experience."
  • "Employees like being able to see what entitlements/balances that they have for their time away."
  • "I would also like to see some improvement in standard reports. A standard report should be available to pull the required information for Affirmative Action Plans. I do not think I should have to build or create one."
  • "I would like to continue to see improvements in the Recruiting module. I would like to see this module interact with Calendars, such as Outlook, etc."

What is our primary use case?

We were looking to automate our timekeeping, payroll, benefits, HR, and recruiting needs. We explored several vendors and decided Dayforce HCM was the best solution for our organization. We liked the feedback that we were receiving from other Dayforce users. We were intrigued by the enhancements that they were working on as we were an organization consumed by paper for every task. When you have so much paper, you need to organize and store it.  Getting on a cloud-base single platform seemed to be the best solution for us.

How has it helped my organization?

Once using Dayforce, our employees began to clock in using electronic time clocks. They no longer use paper to request time away. The supervisor authorizes the time away and makes any necessary pay adjustments on the electronic time sheet. Our employees can then view their time card and wages earned in real time.

We no longer keep Excel spreadsheets to track training. We track the training in the employee's record. Our old procedure called for the supervisor to mark on a training form the employee's name, ID number, date, department, etc., then check which operation the employee is trained on. This paper was then delivered to HR where it would be given to a clerk for input in an Excel spreadsheet. Now, the supervisor tracks the training in Dayforce.

We like being able to hire from the Dayforce recruiting module straight into Dayforce and having the file feeds go to our benefits vendor. Also, we like having our employees self-serve on tax forms, direct deposit, address changes, phone number changes, emergency contact, etc.  PPACA tracking is a breeze with Dayforce.

Dayforce has transformed how we operate by saving us time, paper, accuracy, money, and the employee/supervisor experience.

What is most valuable?

There are so many valuable features it is hard to single out a few. However, the electronic timekeeping has had one of the biggest impacts as so many were positively impacted by this implementation compared to how this task was handled prior to Dayforce.

Employees like being able to see what entitlements/balances that they have for their time away. They also like seeing their daily earnings. If they have any question about their time sheet and/or pay prior to a pay run, they can ask as they see what is being turned in.

From an employer perspective, I like the employees seeing their "Total Compensation" year-to-date. Prior to Dayforce, our employees had no clue how much their total compensation was.

What needs improvement?

I would like to continue to see improvements in the Recruiting module. I would like to see this module interact with Calendars, such as Outlook, etc.

I would also like to see some improvement in standard reports. A standard report should be available to pull the required information for Affirmative Action Plans. I do not think I should have to build or create one.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, we used a web-based solution which only HR and payroll employees had access to for HR/payroll use. We also used a recruiting program.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Negotiate for everything you want.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We looked at ADP, Kronos, and Paylocity,

What other advice do I have?

Ceridian continually enhances Dayforce HCM. Some of these enhancements they charge for and some are just straight enhancements with no extra charge.

Statutory holiday pay is calculated automatically
Pros and Cons
  • "Statutory holiday pay is calculated automatically."
  • "It has created efficiencies in HR and Payroll by eliminating double entry into two systems, implementing a time clock feature for hourly employees, and by having a downloadable general ledger (G/L) constructing journal entering for payroll."
  • "The integrated time clock has provided efficiencies in payroll, as we no longer have to decipher handwritten time sheets and input them into the system."
  • "It would be nice if retro pay calculations were made automatically for salaried payroll, so a calculation and manual entry do not have to be done."

What is our primary use case?

It is used for payroll and human resources applications. The Document Manager module is also used for scheduling and its time clock.

How has it helped my organization?

It has created efficiencies in HR and Payroll by eliminating double entry into two systems, implementing a time clock feature for hourly employees, and by having a downloadable general ledger (G/L) constructing journal entering for payroll.

What is most valuable?

The integrated time clock has provided efficiencies in payroll, as we no longer have to decipher handwritten time sheets and input them into the system.  Statutory holiday pay is also calculated automatically.

What needs improvement?

It would be nice if retro pay calculations were made automatically for salaried payroll, so a calculation and manual entry do not have to be done.

Pros and Cons
  • "We used the solution to do a lot of performance management during the review cycle and it helped us alleviate the administrative burden."
  • "I would like the solution to improve its customer service communication."
