Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"There are a lot of features I find valuable, but I think that the metamodel customization is one of the best features that the solution offers.""We have seen ROI with this solution over the years that we have used it.""The user interface is good. It's both clear and comprehensible. It's easy to work with.""The solution is pretty stable."

More IBM Rational System Architect Pros →

"We use the solution to create data models which describe our company's data architecture""The interface is really simple to use and it allows me to pick and choose which tables I want to reverse engineer.""We have been able to quickly create models for our enterprise-wide databases, even when some of them are third-party databases.""It does the job.""The data modeling and reverse engineering features are most important to us.""The data modeling module is important to me because I am a database developer and designer... It's very fast, reliable, up-to-date, so easy to use, smooth.""It's much easier to develop the database structure and change it on the fly, rather than doing it manually in SQL Server itself. That saves time.""We found a lot of duplication, a lot of non-conformity in the way our databases were designed. By identifying these situations, we're able to go back in and try to create a more standardized solution."

More IDERA ER/Studio Pros →

"The most valuable features of iServer are the integration with Microsoft Office and the interface is similar to Microsoft applications making them easy to use.""It has helped having data lineage in the business cluster, which is used as control artifacts.""The initial setup is easy.""The solution has wide use within Microsoft products. The integration with Microsoft products, and, in particular, Microsoft Office, is great.""Integrating the Microsoft documents to the product and visualization matrix where we can see the end-to-end relationship of the network is of great importance to our company.""We like the governance.""This is a flexible tool compared to some other solutions.""There were lots of different requirements, and collaboration and review is one of the biggest things. There is also Office 360 integration, and there's flexibility to use it as a database as well."

More iServer Pros →

Cons
"The solution needs to better integrate with other products, like Microsoft.""The reverse engineering of the database is already there, but in the next release I would like to see some pilot supplied with the solution in order to address any database.""This solution can be more user-friendly and easier to use, with better dashboards.""There needs to be more information at the outset about how to use the solution and how to deploy it. The deployment process needs improvement."

More IBM Rational System Architect Cons →

"What needs the most improvement are semantic lineage and usability.""One limitation I have found in ER/Studio is that when you want to make some changes to the table definitions, you have to go item by item. You cannot do it globally. Another issue concerns defining the foreign keys between the different tables. It is a little more tedious in the ER/Studio than in ERrwin. With ERwin it is direct.""What I would like to see improved is the reliability of the releases, releases that are a little less buggy.""I'd like the ability to debug the errors ourselves instead of having to call them. There are certain types of errors that, I wouldn't say they come up regularly, but when you have an error it is very often the same type of error. Knowing that it's a Type III or Type I, it would be nice to have some kind of debugging facility for us to use to find out where the problem that threw that error occurs. That would be a really cool feature.""The solution could be sped up, as it is a little slow (e.g., when it's doing its database compare).""The only thing I had an issue with was licensing, and the support was very good.""I would like to see better documentation/help for the Data Architect tool. Creation of tutorials would be nice, as there are some features which are not as clearly defined as they should be.""Sometimes our version is a little unstable. But I think this problem occurs because our version is old."

More IDERA ER/Studio Cons →

"It definitely needs help to improve the visual aspect of the solution.""There could be features for process mining, process simulation, and analytics.""The modelling needs improvement, specifically forecasting capabilities and scenarios.""The migration tool needs to be included in the main package, and not as a separate license.""It runs relatively slowly.""There are other solutions out there that have a better user interface.""More visualization techniques and ways to report the data might be helpful.""The one issue is that if you want to import predefined work, you need to put the licensing model in. So if you wanted to import work that was done before, you then need to buy a separate product for that."
