We performed a comparison between Barracuda Intronis Backup and Zerto based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Deduplication Software solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."Its interface is intuitive, and it is easy to use when I am restoring files. Barracuda does a really excellent job at compression, which makes it very efficient. Eight years later, I am only halfway through to the capacity, which is very good."
"The product is easy to install and use while doing what it is expected to do."
"It is very reliable, so we don't have any issues with it. Our customers have never raised any issue with it. Basically, once you set it up and it is running, it is trouble-free. Our customers are happy. They just got a renewal for the subscription for the service."
"The main feature we like about Barracuda is that we can map devices directly to the cloud. It operates as a security device to run a backup of the cloud in case one of our physical machines goes down."
"It's a one-stop shop, meaning we just program and schedule the backups, decide what is being backed up, and then it automatically replicates and deduplicates."
"The most valuable features are the deduplication that analyzes data to identify duplicate patterns and granular restore."
"The most valuable feature is the speed of backup, which is very good compared to other solutions."
"The most valuable feature is unlimited data storage on the cloud. Even if the employee has left the company for a few years, the backup will still be maintained."
"In terms of the most valuable features, having the failover tests where you can see where your actual RTO and RPO would be is really nice, especially for the management level. I really liked the ease of when I need to do a file or folder restore off the cuff. Usually, it takes me less than five minutes to do it, including the mounting of the actual image. That was one thing with Unitrends, it was a similar process but if that backup had aged off of the system, then you had to go to the archive and you find the right disks, load them in, and then actually mount the image."
"The user interface is very user-friendly."
"There wasn't anything in place that compares to what we're getting from Zerto. Before Zerto, we didn't have a proper disaster recovery program or application in place. We had a simple backup solution where we could back up our data every 24 hours. So we went from that to being able to recover full systems within a matter of minutes. With Zerto, if we do have an event or disaster, we know that we can recover from that much quicker than we were able to before."
"For us, the most valuable features are the quick upload time and how the sync works... We have VMware SRM and Veeam, and they have been pretty slow and sluggish."
"It's very stable. It doesn't require a lot of intervention."
"Its automation and the ability to replicate and keep an RTO of just seconds is valuable. It is all automatic. Everything is pretty transparent on the backend. It is just point-and-go."
"The whole package is valuable. The most useful feature for the company is the rapid RTO, which offers a faster return to operations and brings us back online quicker. The last time we had an issue, we recovered within about 36 minutes, which was probably the most valuable thing for us because, previously, it took four to seven days."
"Its ease of use and scalability are valuable."
"I would like to see better integration with third-party applications."
"This solution could be improved with offering lower prices at scale."
"The solution is pretty expensive. This is the usual customer complaint."
"The backup feature could be a bit simpler to utilize. They should make the process of backing up individual files simpler."
"In the next release of this solution, I would like to see cloud support and deduplication functionality."
"Barracuda Backup could use some more integration."
"When we manage the box physically, we don't have as much control as we do when we manage from the cloud. The best management is from the cloud."
"The restore time can be improved. The restore time for large quantities of folders is slow. Sometimes, if I'm doing a full recovery of a server, it takes multiple hours, which probably is natural. It might also be because of our internet speed to the cloud."
"They definitely have room for improvement in a couple of areas. One is role-based access control. Right now, they don't have an identity source so they use the identity of the vCenter or the VMM. If they connected to an identity source like Active Directory and allowed for granular roles and permissions, that would be an improvement."
"There is a need to allow the source vCenter Inventory to be imported with a single click."
"The only thing we've noticed that needs improvement is the backend cleanup within VMware. There are some little issues there. I would like to see tighter integration with Vmware... orphan data is an issue within VMware. It doesn't clean up properly when you're moving stuff around."
"The technical support response needs improvement."
"Customer service and technical support need improvement."
"We did look at the long-term retention backup feature of Zerto a few years ago, and at that time, it was limited. I can't say what it is right now, but at the time, its functionality was limited in terms of basically where we could save it and how we could save it. Offsite air gapping our backups is important to us to help protect against ransomware, and at the time, it couldn't do that. That would be one area that would be important before we consider using the long-term retention again. I haven't looked at it recently, and they may have addressed this in the meantime, but if not, this would be an area of improvement."
"The only issue that I observed was that depending on the number of virtual machines that are being replicated, you will have to provision the appropriate bandwidth for the link that the replicated systems will traverse."
"Their offsite backup is a bit clunky, but it will probably improve."
