We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Development on Apache Airflow is really fast, and it's easy to use with the newer updates. Everything is in Python, so it's not hard to understand. They also have a graphical view, so if you are not a programmer and you are just an administrator, you can easily track everything and see if everything is working or not.""The UI is very simple and easy to learn.""The solution's UI allows me to collect all the information and see the code lines.""The initial setup was straightforward and it does not take long to complete.""Designing processes and workflows is easier, and it assists in coordinating all of the different processes.""One of its most valuable features is the graphical user interface, providing a visual representation of the pipeline status, successes, failures, and informative developer messages.""Apache Airflow's best feature is its flexibility.""The product is stable."

"ARIS has a good collaboration function. You create a portal where any authorized users can work on the models. There are simple flows for making and approving changes.""ARIS is probably the most mature product in terms of modeling an enterprise architecture so that it has context.""It brings transparency and 360-degree views of end-to-end processes.""Platform that it supports covers legacy and new. Caters to moving older objects into an integrated DB, relatively popular ones: SQL, Oracle, etc.""You can relate different aspects of an organization to each other, and you can clearly define the rates seen in the application.""ARIS BPA provides very good visibility and control of processes because we have a concurrent license system. As a result, every person in our company and group is able to look at the published processes.""The matrix model makes building relations easier.""ARIS Reporting – Helps download valuable content from the tool in multiple formats."

More ARIS BPA Pros →

"The client and the IBM content navigation are the solution's most valuable features.""It's very easy.""The content management is great.""A valuable feature includes seamless integration with the document management system, along with robust capabilities in analytics and reporting.""Case Foundation provides a strong security boost.""The most valuable features are those involving decision making, analysis, and anything related to event documents because those processes are related to content as well.""The solution is scalable.""It is easy to set up workflows that notify the user depending on certain events."

Cons
"Apache Airflow should have better integration with cloud platforms.""One specific feature that is missing from Airflow is that the steps of your workflow are not pipelined, meaning the stageless steps of any workflow. Not every workflow can be implemented within Airflow.""The dashboard is connected into the BPM flow that could be improved.""The documentation must be improved.""Airflow should support the dynamic drag creation.""Enhancements become necessary when scaling it up from a few thousand workflows to a more extensive scale of five thousand or ten thousand workflows.""I would like to see it more friendly for other use cases.""UI can be improved with additional user-friendly features for non-programmers and for fewer coding practitioner requirements."

More Apache Airflow Cons →

"There is a lot of room for improvement. They need to increase the performance of the system flow. They need to support it more. ARIS Process Governance is still quite basic, and they are using an old BPM and process automation module.""The model graphics can be exported in PDF, but the model is too small to read.""There should be a more intuitive tool when creating reports.""Migration to the next release is very tricky. You can't do it without support from ARIS or from a software kit. And it takes a lot of time and a lot of money to migrate. My impression is that a lot of companies do not migrate regularly because of that issue.""I had a hard time with ARIS's access and licensing policy. It requires you to pay for each step you want to take forward with the solution.""Needs flexibility in automation of the modeling processes and real-time analysis of data, not just a static view.""Sometimes, ARIS BPA breaks down, and its stability can be improved.""Simulation is one area that is a bit complex."

More ARIS BPA Cons →

"The solution can be quite expensive.""The interface needs to be more user-friendly.""There is a need for more open and flexible integration capabilities, allowing seamless collaboration with a broader spectrum of business process management solutions, beyond the confines of IBM's document management offerings.""IBM needs to update the user interfaces of all its products to make them more intuitive and accessible to beginners. Compared to Microsoft products, IBM solutions are less user-friendly. IBM programs are hard to master. It's a problem in my region because it's hard to find IT staff who can work with IBM.""Once a workflow is launched then it stays static forever, which is a problem because if there is a change in the business then you cannot change the workflow.""The service as it currently stands is out-of-date and lacks flexibility.""Comparing the solution with other interfaces, IBM BPM is much better than Case Foundation. They need to make this solution's interface more user-friendly.""There are some features that could be enhanced like the document viewer"

    Overview

Apache Airflow is an open-source workflow management system (WMS) that is primarily used to programmatically author, orchestrate, schedule, and monitor data pipelines as well as workflows. The solution makes it possible for you to manage your data pipelines by authoring workflows as directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) of tasks. By using Apache Airflow, you can orchestrate data pipelines over object stores and data warehouses, run workflows that are not data-related, and can also create and manage scripted data pipelines as code (Python).

    Apache Airflow Features

Apache Airflow has many valuable key features. Some of the most useful ones include:

    • Smart sensor: In Apache Airflow, tasks are executed sequentially. The smart sensors are executed in bundles, and therefore consume fewer resources.
    • Dockerfile: By using Apache Airflow’s dockerfile feature, you can run your business’s Airflow code without having to document and automate the process of running Airflow on a server.
    • Scalability: Because Apache Airflow has a modular architecture and uses a message queue to orchestrate an arbitrary number of workers, you can easily scale it.
    • Plug-and-play operators: With Apache Airflow, you can choose from several plug-and-play operators that are ready to execute your tasks on many third-party services.

    Apache Airflow Benefits

There are many benefits to implementing Apache Airflow. Some of the biggest advantages the solution offers include:

    • User friendly: Using Apache Airflow requires minimal python knowledge to get started.
    • Intuitive user interface: The Apache Airflow user interface enables you to visualize pipelines running in production, monitor progress, and also troubleshoot issues when needed.
    • Easy integration: Apache Airflow can easily be integrated with cloud platforms (Google, AWS, Azure, etc).
    • Visual DAGs: Apache Airflow’s visual DAGs provide data lineage, which facilitates debugging of data flows and also aids in auditing and data governance.
    • Flexibility: Apache Airflow provides you with several ways to make DAG objects more flexible. At runtime, a context variable is passed to each workflow execution, which is quickly incorporated into an SQL statement that includes the run ID, execution date, and last and next run times.
    • Multiple deployment options: With Apache Airflow, you have several options for deployment, including self-service, open source, or a managed service.
    • Several data source connections: Apache Airflow can connect to a variety of data sources, including APIs, databases, data warehouses, and more.

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by PeerSpot users currently using the Apache Airflow solution.

A Senior Solutions Architect/Software Architect says, “The product integrates well with other pipelines and solutions. The ease of building different processes is very valuable to us. The difference between Kafka and Airflow, is that it's better for dealing with the specific flows that we want to do some transformation. It's very easy to create flows.”

An Assistant Manager at a comms service provider mentions, “The best part of Airflow is its direct support for Python, especially because Python is so important for data science, engineering, and design. This makes the programmatic aspect of our work easy for us, and it means we can automate a lot.”

A Senior Software Engineer at a pharma/biotech company comments that he likes Apache Airflow because it is “Feature rich, open-source, and good for building data pipelines.”
