As a consultancy, we sell projects on Alteryx. I've done projects based on data integration, data preparation, and also we have a data science project that we are working on as well.
Analytics Manager at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
Good analytics and data preparation and easy to set up
Pros and Cons
- "The product offers very good analytics."
- "We automate analytics tasks saving thousand of ours from our clients, starting with a scenario of a lot of manual work and then automating it, offering very good analytics with much more power through geospacial analytics and data science."
- "The product could offer more connectors and more databases with support for the in-database function."
What is our primary use case?
How has it helped my organization?
We had a webinar recently with a truck manufacturer. It has been very helpful to them in order to have a system that can help them with predictive maintenance.
What is most valuable?
The features that are related to data preparation are quite useful to us. We automate analytics tasks saving thousand of ours from our clients. In general, we start with a scenario of a lot of manual work and we automate it.
The product offers very good analytics, not just automating what was done before in a very long process, but we also bring much more power with geospacial analytics and data science.
What needs improvement?
The product could offer more connectors and more databases with support for the in-database function.
For example, there is one special feature that we use that's an in-database connection feature. When we use this, the operation that we are designing runs directly on the database. However, currently, it only works with a few databases. We would like to have more options for this feature. It needs to integrate better across other databases.
The reporting features can be a bit complicated sometimes.
There could be more scheduling options available on the server.

For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for about five years at this point. I've used it for a good amount of time.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The product is very stable. I like it a lot. We sell this product in Brazil and we have a good support team. Compared to other tools, the demand for support is very low due to the fact that there are very few problems to deal with.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of the product is very very good. We sell other products, such as business intelligence tools, and we usually compare the performance between them and Alteryx. Alteryx always wins.
In general, the companies we work with range from medium to large. We work with some of the biggest companies in Brazil.
Typically, we start very small with one team, and we try to understand and test Alteryx in the context of the company. Then, we generally expand very quickly, over one to two years, from a departmental use to a more corporate use. Therefore, we go into the product under the assumption the company will expand usage in the future.
How are customer service and support?
The solution is very stable, so we don't use technical support a lot. When we had to use it, it was very good. We're quite satisfied with the level of service provided.
Their documentation is also very good. They have medium complexity materials, and what is nice is that they're all translated to Portuguese. It's all very broad and easy to understand. Even when they launch a new product, in a few days, all the documentation is ready and the quality is very good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
In the past, I worked with Qlik (QlikView and Qlik Sense), I still do, but we find much more gain to our clients with Alteryx, projects are faster and deliver more value.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is very straightforward. It's not too complex at all. We enjoyed the process.
Deployments typically take anywhere from two weeks to a month to execute.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I advise clients to think about the gains in the first project and also all you can achieve with the hours saved by automation and also with broader analytics.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We do tend to evaluate other options for companies. What we recommend depends on the usage. A lot of companies just use Excel. They end up moving from Excel to Alteryx. Some of them had some Excel tools, for example, Microsoft SSIS, the SQL Server Integration Services. That's very common. Then a few of them, it's not very common moved from SAS or KNIME to Alteryx.
Alteryx can do a lot of things, such as data integration and preparation, as well as data science. Everything is in one tool. You don't need to integrate a lot of different tools from different vendors. I'd say that's the main differentiation when you compare different products.
What other advice do I have?
I'm an Alteryx consultant. I use the solution myself often. We're an Alteryx partner. We're currently at the second tier, as a preferred partner.
I'm using the latest version of the solution.
If a company is considering a solution such as this, should think about the performance of their change, what they would do if they could be faster in the analysis that they do. That's a special point when using Alteryx. They need to think about what analysis they're not able to do today. When they think about it, they will understand the benefits of Alteryx.
I would rate the solution nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Data Analyst at a tech services company with 201-500 employees
Easy to install, and there is good support with a strong community
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable features are the integrated properties and integrated connectivity."
- "If the price were reduced then it would be more competitive."
- "Alteryx is a little bit expensive compared to competing solutions."
What is our primary use case?
This product is used for reporting and designing workflow processes.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features are the integrated properties and integrated connectivity.
What needs improvement?
If the price were reduced then it would be more competitive.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Alteryx Designer for approximately two weeks.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is good. They have a strong community that is helpful.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Prior to using Alteryx, I was using another product.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Alteryx is a little bit expensive compared to competing solutions.
What other advice do I have?
I have not had any offers to work with Alteryx, so I am not sure if I will continue working with it in the future. In summary, this is a good product, but it is a little bit costly.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Chief Automation Officer at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
Robust, great for financial decision making, and very scalable
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is extremely robust, works well for data scientists, and can really help them drill down on the information in order to give management tangible data points for larger business decisions."
- "This product really needs to improve its ease of use."
What is our primary use case?
The solution is mainly for bringing in a large amount of data. For example, let's say you have a retailer and they have various types of sales. They have stores both online and brick and mortar and they have sales happening in both places. What you're trying to do is decide all kinds of information based on the store versus online. Stores have different numbers of square feet and carry different types of merchandise depending on how they rank the store in different cities. If, for example, in Columbus, Ohio, if there are three stores, exactly the same store, they may be ranked differently based on the monetary intake that they have. Then there's the online information that they're pulling in, and data is being collected around who's ordering online and if they ordering versus going into the store, etc. All that data is pooled from the credit card information and it's cataloged. Trifacta allows you to write a code to bring that information together so that you can manipulate it at the end.
Once the information is collected, a data scientist can actually begin giving VPs in their departments the information that they need on the spot to make decisions about products. They can assess the information that the AI and machine learning is putting out and they can look at it and go, "Okay, you don't even need store C, so make store B larger, combine those two stores, give them different clothing in store B and they'll start to compete better in a market". It's amazing how much detail they can get in order to help make sales more efficient.
What is most valuable?
The solution is extremely robust.
It works well for data scientists and can really help them drill down on the information in order to give management tangible data points for larger business decisions.
The solution can execute and connect better to platforms that are actually non-platforms like Pega.
What needs improvement?
This product really needs to improve its ease of use.
The solution needs to do a better job of promoting and marketing itself. Alteryx is much better at this and as a consequence is more recognizable. Trifacta needs to showcase its technology better.
It truly should encompass the A to Z execution of how you execute business process modeling in an intelligent automation form.
A future release needs to be something that's easier to handle. I wouldn't say a layman should be able to use the solution as data wrangling is something that somebody has got to really be certified in. I have a friend who's worked at IBM for 30 years, and now he's just getting certified as a data scientist. However, if the solution was designed as something that really could assist a new data scientist or kids coming out of college, something that's easier for them to wrap their heads around, that would be helpful.
The interface on Trifacta is way too busy. I used to do UX and it's just awful. It looks a little bit like Excel. I can't stand it. The UI of Alteryx is much, much better.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've worked with the product in the last 12 months or so.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is a very stable piece of software. It doesn't really have bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is very easy to scale. If a company needs to expand outwards they can do so very easily.
How are customer service and technical support?
I bever reached out to a help desk, per se, however, any time I ever needed someone that I could engage with at a much higher level, they were there immediately. That was nice of them, considering we never implemented an actual solution.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Alteryx is simpler because it has more of a drop-and-drag and it's more business process-oriented. So, if you have a business process that's already to execute Alteryx is easier. Trifacta you really have to have a data scientist to be able to look at the data, but Alteryx is more citizen developed and ready to go as long as they can learn the product versus learning the science.
Basically, Alteryx does that faster. Alteryx truly does that faster in a simpler format. Trifacta is a much more robust tool that executes more information, however, it is way harder to learn.
How was the initial setup?
We never actually ended up implementing the solution for the client.
What was our ROI?
Finance is the biggest ROI advantage a client will get. It will help them make smarter financial decisions.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I was never part of the decision-making process when it came to pricing. I'm not sure of what the exact costs were.
As a partner, as a reseller, I don't know much about the Trifacta side as they were partners with them before I came on. Alteryx, for example, seems expensive to me, however, I came from RPA, which was not that expensive to implement. Once I got used to something like data wrangling it didn't seem too much for us.
The number one concern for us was to become a partner. The resell seemed like the ROI was going to benefit the customer. I felt, just like with RPA, once you can show the value, (and you can show the value almost immediately because this stuff can be run overnight), the cost isn't too big.
What other advice do I have?
We are resellers. We work with clients to implement solutions.
I personally never executed the Trifacta solution. We did propose one, however, the client did not accept the solution.
Overall, I would rate the solution at a nine out of ten. I've been pretty happy with it overall.

An easy-to-use, end-to-end data analytics platform
Pros and Cons
- "It's super easy to learn how to use it — the learning curve is very small."
- "I honestly can't think of anything that needs to be improved."
What is our primary use case?
We use Alteryx for aggregating different Excel data and doing general analytics.
Within our company, there are five employees using Alteryx.
What is most valuable?
It's super easy to learn how to use it — the learning curve is very small.
What needs improvement?
I honestly can't think of anything that needs to be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Alteryx for five years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Alteryx is both scalable and stable.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is very supportive.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
Our in-house team deployed this solution; it was a quick process.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I don't know much about the licensing, but there are some additional costs for certain features.
What other advice do I have?
I would definitely recommend this solution to other interested companies. The real question is: do you really want people doing self-service analytics?
On a scale from one to ten, I would give Alteryx a rating of eight.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

An easy-to-understand and easy-to-use solution for good and efficient flows
Pros and Cons
- "The functionality of drag and drop is the most valuable. It is a very user-friendly tool that can be understood easily. My teams also work with other solutions, such as Integration Services, and these solutions are very difficult for people who don't have technical knowledge."
- "It is a very nice solution; we love it and consider it the best solution among similar kinds of solutions."
- "Its price can be improved. It is too expensive for our country. Because of its high price, we can't sell Alteryx Designer in this region. We used to be their reseller partner. There is also an additional cost for automating the data and running the flows, which makes it even more expensive. It will be very good if they can let users automate the data for free. Other solutions like Tableau provide this feature for free."
- "It is too expensive for our country, and because of its high price, we can't sell Alteryx Designer in this region."
What is our primary use case?
We have a few customers who use this solution. They already have this solution in their company. They ask us to help them in creating different flows for different solutions and preparing different kinds of data. We only give support to these customers. We are using the latest version.
What is most valuable?
The functionality of drag and drop is the most valuable. It is a very user-friendly tool that can be understood easily. My teams also work with other solutions, such as Integration Services, and these solutions are very difficult for people who don't have technical knowledge.

For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Alteryx Designer for five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is really stable. It is a very good product.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is expensive, which is the main problem. If you want to have the enterprise version, you have to pay for the server, which costs a lot of money. Our customers are big enterprises.
How are customer service and technical support?
We never needed technical support.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is totally easy. It doesn't take a lot of time. It is easy to implement for us. We have a lot of experience in data modeling and architecture. We have different consultants who have knowledge of integration, architecture, modeling, and data.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is too expensive for our country. We are a small country, so it is too difficult to sell this solution. With Alteryx Designer, if you want to automate the data and run the flows, you have to pay more money. We were trying to automate the flows, and we found out that people have to pay 600 more for this feature, which makes it even more expensive.
We are a partner for Tableau, and we are working with Tableau Prep, which is like a mini Alteryx. In Tableau Prep, you can drag and drop and make new connections with the different data sources. You can make all the connections. You can also publish a source. You don't have to pay more money with Tableau. You pay like $5 per user per month to access it.
What other advice do I have?
It is a very nice solution. We love it. It is the best solution among similar kinds of solutions. It, however, is too expensive, and people can't buy it. It doesn't matter how good a solution is if people can't buy it. As an ex-reseller partner of Alteryx, we always talk about the good quality and functionalities that Alteryx has.
You can make very good and efficient flows in this solution, but you have to do the research for this kind of product and follow the best practices. You need to clean and prepare the data.
I would rate Alteryx Designer an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Great performance and modelling features; very user friendly
Pros and Cons
- "The modeling features are very good."
- "Although Alteryx is a paid software, it is equally able to provide better performance without writing a single line of code."
- "There are a few imputation techniques which they really need to include."
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case is for ML related and deep learning related things like data cleaning and and then later we work on machine learning. I'm a business analyst and we are customers of Alteryx.
What is most valuable?
The modelling features are very good in Alteryx and better than what you'd find in open-source software. Python and R rule the market. Although Alteryx is a paid software, it is equally able to provide better performance without writing a single line of code. That's the USP of the software as such. It's very user friendly.
What needs improvement?
There are a few imputation techniques which they really need to include. Things you'd find in Python. And there are advanced techniques coming in every day there. Alteryx needs to update more quickly. There are also a few things from geospatial or updating perspectives that are still better in open-source software than what you find in Alteryx.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
In terms of stability, we haven't had glitches or issues with the software.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have had contact with technical support in license related things, but it's more community based where you can learn and resolve things if you have hiccups. If there are any issues, the technical support will resolve it for us. We have seven people in the company using this solution.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not complex.
What other advice do I have?
I think Alteryx is a good software to work with. It's user-friendly and more accurate than other products in terms of the predictions and modelling.
I would rate this solution an eight out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Scalable, easy to set up, and has a simple GUI
Pros and Cons
- "The GUI is simple and it integrates with Python."
- "The initial setup is easy, straightforward, and simple, and within hours I can have the designer up and running."
- "We are hoping that the NLP features will also support Chinese characters."
- "The price for Alteryx Designer is reasonable but the price of the Alteryx Server for universal collaborations is too expensive."
What is our primary use case?
We are mainly using Alteryx for data preparation and processing data.
We are also monitoring for some of our customers, in product analysis, regressions or customer segmentations, and column correlations analysis.
What is most valuable?
The GUI is simple and it integrates with Python.
What needs improvement?
For the area in Alteryx, such as the server the prices are high and it would be better to reduce the fees.
Some of the new tools in the intelligence Suite are the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and the Natural Language Processing (NLP) language for English characters. We are hoping that the NLP features will also support Chinese characters.
For how long have I used the solution?
We started carrying Alteryx in February of this year, 2020.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Alteryx is a stable product.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This is a very scalable solution. For every organization or company, there are a few data scientists working with Alteryx. For some of the enterprise, they have a team of five working with this solution, whereas others have two.
How are customer service and technical support?
Community support is good, but I have not yet contacted technical support. I am not able to assess them.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
As a Data Scientist Platform, Alteryx is the first platform that we have worked with.
I have worked with IBM and some other vendors from Hong Kong.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is easy, straightforward, and simple.
Within hours, I can have the designer up and running.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price for Alteryx Designer is reasonable but the price of the Alteryx Server for universal collaborations is too expensive.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I am currently doing a comparison between Data IQ and Alteryx.
What other advice do I have?
Most of our clients in Hong Kong are on-premises because they don't want to share the data on the Cloud.
We use several other products because we want a unified platform for our customers.
If you have experience with Excel, macros, or VBA then you have a great foundation to use Alteryx.
I would rate Alteryx an eight out of ten.

A complete solution with very good user experience and a nice user interface
Pros and Cons
- "The solution has a very strong community that is involved in the product. It helps make the usage easier and helps us find answers to our questions."
- "Alteryx is easier to set up and implement and allowed us to also focus on different aspects of the business."
- "There's a big jump in terms of pricing between license tiers. I'm not sure I understand why the price jumps are so high."
What is our primary use case?
We're using the solution primarily to clean up some of our customer CRM data and to integrate it with some of our Salesforce requirements.
What is most valuable?
The UX (user experience) is quite good on this solution. The UI (user interface) is also excellent.
The solution has a very strong community that is involved in the product. It helps make the usage easier and helps us find answers to our questions.
What needs improvement?
For the most part, the solution is very complete, and there isn't much missing.
The designer license lacks a few features that the server has.
There's a big jump in terms of pricing between license tiers. I'm not sure I understand why the price jumps are so high.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for just over a year at this point. It hasn't been too long.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of the solution is very good. It's reliable. We have not experienced issues like bugs and glitches. It doesn't crash.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Only a small number of people use the solution in our organization. There are about four people on it. They are a mix of engineers, architects, and some data integration specialists.
There is a possibility to scale the solution. For the designer license, it's quite possible. Another server may be required, however.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support has been very good. I'd rate it ten out of ten. We're quite satisfied with the level of service we've been provided. They are helpful.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We did previously use R and Python solutions before we switched to Alteryx. They were okay, but a bit difficult to work with.
Alteryx is easier to set up and implement. It allowed us to also focus on different aspects of the business.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is simple. It's very straightforward. I wouldn't describe the implementation as complex.
Deployment takes about an hour if a user is installing the regular application.
The solution does not require maintenance.
What about the implementation team?
In terms of the installation, I had to request the process from IT. However, it was fairly simple. I did the initial implementation of the platform. That said, I did require the help of some of our data scientists. It was all in-house. We didn't require the help of an integrator or consultant.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I don't have any idea how much the solution costs. I don't deal with that aspect of the solution. I do believe the pricing is publicly listed on their website.
What other advice do I have?
We're simply users of the solution. We don't have a professional relationship with Alteryx.
We're currently using the designer license, however, I'm not sure of the exact version I'm currently on right now. I believe it is the latest version.
There's a 14-day free trial for those organizations that would like to try the solution before they commit to anything.
I would recommend the solution, 100%. It basically has everything we need. While we don't have all the features on offer in our particular license, it does have everything we need, and if our needs change, we can always move up to the next tier.
I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Stable, scalable, and offers excellent drag and drop features
Pros and Cons
- "The solution has excellent drag and drop functionality. There's no need for coding."
- "The solution has excellent drag and drop functionality, there's no need for coding, and there are nodes ready for us to use as well, which makes everything extremely easy and the user-friendliness a big draw for us."
- "The solution just lacks in terms of data visualization. That is why we use Tableau and Qlik in our organization. They help to pick up the slack. If data visualization was added, Alteryx would be a very good tool, and much more complete."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution for ETL purposes and also for a lot of our modeling and scheduling.
What is most valuable?
The solution has excellent drag and drop functionality. There's no need for coding. There are nodes ready for us to use as well. It makes everything extremely easy. The user-friendliness is a big draw for us.
What needs improvement?
The solution just lacks in terms of data visualization. That is why we use Tableau and Qlik in our organization. They help to pick up the slack. If data visualization was added, Alteryx would be a very good tool, and much more complete.
The solution could maybe use a connector as a direct input for MySQL or something like that. Right now, we use ODBC connectors for MySQL. If a direct connector was available on this product that would be very helpful, especially for our organization.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of the solution is good. We don't have issues with the product crashing and we don't find there are bugs and glitches that affect its quality. It's reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability is very smooth. If a company needs to expand the service, they should be able to do so easily.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is great.
There's a very good community that surrounds the solution. However, you can also reach out to Alteryx directly as well. They're just a call away if you need them. I would say our organization is satisfied with the level of service they provide.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing of the solution is a bit on the expensive side. We use an Alteryx Server and Designer as well. The server itself is a bit pricey.
What other advice do I have?
We're just a customer. We don't have a business relationship with the company.
Our organization is dealing with large amounts of data, yet we do not have the money to buy a Microsoft product like SQL. Alteryx is a pretty good alternative to handle the ETL part of the workload.
We've been largely satisfied with the solution.
I would rate the solution eight out of ten overall. We've been happy with the results that have been provided to us so far. If the solution offered a connector as a direct input for MySQL, or better data visualization, I'd rate it higher.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Pros and Cons
- "The design portion of this tool is easy to use without code, which his something that something we can appreciate."
- "There are no ready models to use in analytics."
What is our primary use case?
We are using this solution mostly for ETL purposes, and we have just started using advanced analytics, demand forecasting, and some supply chain optimization tasks.
What is most valuable?
The design portion of this tool is easy to use without code, which his something that something we can appreciate. We can say it's code-free usage.
What needs improvement?
There are no ready models to use in analytics. There is no content. You have the tools but you don't have the content.
In the next release, I would like to see Auto Machine Learning.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for three years.
We have just upgraded to the latest version.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This is a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This solution is scalable.
We have ten users in our company, who are engineers and business analysts.
How are customer service and technical support?
Team members have contacted technical support for troubleshooting purposes. The technical support is sufficient.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously, we were using Microsoft System Servers. Alteryx has a more user-friendly interface allowing more non-users to use it.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was simple. Just connect to a couple of data sources and transform the data. It took about three months to deploy.
We do the maintenance of what has already been developed.
What about the implementation team?
