Rapid deployments have transformed how I launch secure learning and exam platforms for clients
Pros and Cons
  • "Having a trusted source and ready-to-deploy Wordpress images has helped my workflow and my clients by speeding up deployment times and eliminating worries about the quality or security of the image."
  • "One of the key improvements needed for Wordpress on Amazon Linux is its marketing because I did not know it existed as a product within AWS until I read about it on online forums."

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Wordpress on Amazon Linux is deploying school solutions for companies. A quick specific example of a school solution I have deployed using Wordpress on Amazon Linux is a learning platform for a school that needed to host exercises for their students. I have also worked with some other more corporate companies that needed to perform internal exams or questionnaires internally, and I used this solution to deploy this kind of product quickly.

What is most valuable?

The best features Wordpress on Amazon Linux offers, in my experience, include having an out-of-the-box Wordpress deployed on Amazon without having to pull images or search for safe places to download it. With this product, I already have a trusted source of images for Wordpress ready to be deployed in an EC2 instance.

Having a trusted source and ready-to-deploy Wordpress images has helped my workflow and my clients by speeding up deployment times and eliminating worries about the quality or security of the image. It helps me and my company deploy a solution within minutes. Wordpress on Amazon Linux has positively impacted my organization by helping us go to market much faster. Instead of having to manually deploy the image myself or search for it online, I can press a few buttons and have it deployed, ready to be configured. The speed of deployment is a significant advantage.

I have been able to launch around one hundred projects in this way, and while I do not have access to actual metrics, I am confident that none of those one hundred projects took more than ten minutes to deploy.

What needs improvement?

One of the key improvements needed for Wordpress on Amazon Linux is its marketing because I did not know it existed as a product within AWS until I read about it on online forums. I was ready to start deploying these instances myself using images not from Amazon Linux, but from other non-trusted sources until I learned about them in a forum. I think there may be a visibility problem.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Wordpress on Amazon Linux for over two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Wordpress on Amazon Linux is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Wordpress on Amazon Linux is as scalable as AWS solutions. It depends on how I choose to deploy it, but it is indeed scalable.

How are customer service and support?

I have not had to use customer support, but I would say it is good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I previously used Wordpress as a standalone installation and switched to Wordpress on Amazon Linux due to the reasons I mentioned earlier. In the past, I had to research where I was downloading it, check the version, and trust the source of the download. With the AWS image available, I eliminate those concerns and can simply install it.

How was the initial setup?

Wordpress on Amazon Linux has really easy integration capabilities with other tools or platforms I use because it is already prepared to be integrated with several services within AWS as part of the ecosystem.

The performance of Wordpress on Amazon Linux under heavy workloads or high traffic depends on how it is deployed. If I use a single EC2 instance, I may face performance issues with a lot of traffic from many customers. However, in my example, using a load balancer with three instances supports up to nine hundred concurrent users with no issues.

What about the implementation team?

Managing and maintaining Wordpress on Amazon Linux over time is really easy because I have access to AWS tooling. Once the image is ready and configured, I can take a snapshot and use it as a baseline image for further deployment. Maintainability is really easy.

What was our ROI?

I have definitely seen a return on investment in terms of time saved. Although I do not have specific metrics, having Wordpress ready to be deployed in under ten minutes is something to be proud of. It is really easy to deploy Wordpress this way.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing was very straightforward since AWS Marketplace provides all necessary information, and purchasing it is just a matter of a few clicks.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing Wordpress on Amazon Linux, I did not evaluate other options.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Wordpress on Amazon Linux a ten out of ten.

I chose ten because its ease of use, speed to deployment, and how up-to-date the documentation is, along with being close to the latest version, stand out most for me. I purchased Wordpress on Amazon Linux through the AWS Marketplace.

The backup and disaster recovery process for Wordpress on Amazon Linux is straightforward. I can either use the Wordpress backup system with plugins, but I prefer to back up the entire volume where Wordpress is allocated. I ended up using AWS backup system, which is really easy to use.

The flexibility of Wordpress on Amazon Linux when it comes to customization or adding plugins and themes is very high. I can use any plugin from the marketplace, and it works just like any other Wordpress.

My advice for others looking into using Wordpress on Amazon Linux is to trust the image, as it will prevent headaches associated with using a pre-provided image by AWS. The pricing is minimal, so there is no reason not to use it. My overall rating for this product is ten out of ten.

Centralized hosting has accelerated deployments and now supports high-traffic landing pages
Pros and Cons
  • "Since switching to Wordpress on Amazon Linux, I estimate that we have reclaimed about 60% of our time back on deployments."
  • "I notice lagging when using Wordpress on Amazon Linux in the cloud, especially during high traffic."

What is our primary use case?

I most often use Wordpress on Amazon Linux for corporate websites and landing pages. The company I am on contract for is a travel and tour agency. We create a lot of landing pages, and we also have a corporate website for the main company and then subsidiaries.

I use Wordpress on Amazon Linux to manage those landing pages and the corporate website with resources like EC2, EFS, RDS, and load balancers in front of it. I install Wordpress on the EC2 instance, and when we have to create another Wordpress installation, I launch a new EC2 instance and set it up. The resources I use are RDS, EFS, EC2, auto-scaling, and ALB for availability.

The setup of using EC2, EFS, RDS, and load balancers helps with scaling and performance for my landing pages and corporate sites because the ALB helps with spreading of traffic to distribute it. When we launch a new landing page and the demand is high, we also have auto-scaling in place. I usually limit it to three and maintain a minimum of one. This is how I keep the performance optimized for the landing pages and corporate website.

What is most valuable?

The best features that Wordpress on Amazon Linux offers include tight integration with AWS services such as EC2, EBS, and CloudWatch. It also optimizes the performance on the AWS infrastructure, which I really appreciate, along with the security and the fact that it is lightweight.

The ease of use is definitely a feature I appreciate, along with no extra licensing cost, which is great. The fact that it is lightweight and fast to deploy is something I appreciate. I also appreciate the security updates and the long-term support.

Wordpress on Amazon Linux has positively impacted my organization by reducing our provisioning time. It takes less time to deploy it, which is one thing that has benefited my team and the organization. We do not spend as much time on deployments.

What needs improvement?

I notice lagging when using Wordpress on Amazon Linux in the cloud, especially during high traffic. I wish that there was CloudFront integration, as that would be great. Having CloudWatch to monitor CPU, memory, networks, and all of that would also be beneficial.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Wordpress on Amazon Linux for under a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I notice lagging when using Wordpress on Amazon Linux in the cloud, especially during high traffic.

How was the initial setup?

I purchased Wordpress on Amazon Linux through the AWS Marketplace.

What was our ROI?

Since switching to Wordpress on Amazon Linux, I estimate that we have reclaimed about 60% of our time back on deployments.

What other advice do I have?

Wordpress on Amazon Linux affects my team's productivity and collaboration by offering centralized hosting, which improves team access. The designers and developers can work from one centralized environment, and that centralization helps.

My advice to others looking into using Wordpress on Amazon Linux is that they should go for it. It makes deployment faster and easier. I would rate this product nine out of ten.

  • "Wordpress on Amazon Linux can be improved in some ways, like by providing some tools that allow us to upload our theme or website contents and related website things, and also regarding certificate rotations to make it easy, and it can be better in sessions."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Wordpress on Amazon Linux for hosting our WordPress websites, customizations, and themes. We have one e-commerce website that we have hosted on Amazon Linux on Wordpress, and we are currently running our website on that.

What is most valuable?

The best features Wordpress on Amazon Linux offers include speed better than Windows Servers, being cheap, and the ability to enter into the server and customize based on my preference or based on what I want.

Regarding the speed improvements I have noticed compared to Windows Servers, on Windows Server, startup times and other startup application times took time to boot up our machine and server, and also website. Using Linux, it has become faster with not much boot time or startup times.

Regarding cost, Windows has some licensing and server fees that are very high, but on Linux, we do not have that much cost, so using Amazon Web Services (AWS) has become cheaper as we do not have to pay that much money compared to Windows.

Wordpress on Amazon Linux has positively impacted our organization by saving us lots of time, effort, and cost. About 20 to 30% of our time has been saved.

What needs improvement?

Wordpress on Amazon Linux can be improved in some ways, like by providing some tools that allow us to upload our theme or website contents and related website things, and also regarding certificate rotations to make it easy, and it can be better in sessions. I want to see sync file upload features.

Wordpress on Amazon Linux is stable, but it can be improved.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have been using Windows Server for our WordPress because Windows was becoming expensive for us, and we have switched to Wordpress on Amazon Linux.

How was the initial setup?

I purchased Wordpress on Amazon Linux through the AWS Marketplace. My experience with pricing is that it is not that much, and the setup is easy using the marketplace AMI; we just need to add our details, so it is easy.

What about the implementation team?

We are just using it without any business relationship with the vendor other than being a customer.

What was our ROI?

We have saved about 20-30% of our time, and regarding money, we can say that 30-40% of our money is also saved.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did not evaluate other options, as we had a mindset that we wanted to use Amazon Linux for WordPress.

What other advice do I have?

On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate Wordpress on Amazon Linux an eight. I chose eight out of ten because it needs some improvement. You can use Wordpress on Amazon Linux if you want to save your time, save your money, and want everything handy, such as every patch, update, and other things that you want to manage by yourself. I would rate this product an 8 overall.

Digital marketing team has created drag‑and‑drop web pages and streamlines daily campaigns
Pros and Cons
  • "The best features Wordpress on Amazon Linux offers include being lightweight and working very well, providing great performance."

What is our primary use case?

I have been using Wordpress on Amazon Linux for the last one year.

My main use case for Wordpress on Amazon Linux is that I have designed some websites for the company, including a landing page for the digital marketing they are using. I deployed Wordpress, and the page is designed by the digital marketing team, who are handling the digital marketing through it.

    It is only for websites.

    What is most valuable?

The best features Wordpress on Amazon Linux offers include being lightweight and working very well, providing great performance. I have designed more than 100 pages, and daily we are designing one to two pages for digital marketing, and that is working excellently.

Wordpress on Amazon Linux has positively impacted our organization because previously, I had to create websites without a Wordpress setup. When I started exploring Wordpress setup options, I found a solution in Wordpress on Amazon Linux, and I purchased it.

This solution made things easier and improved our workflow because the digital marketing team is using this for designing websites, and their feedback is that it is very beneficial. We can create web pages easily using drag and drop, which is much easier instead of writing HTML code; the page will be created through drag and drop.

    What needs improvement?

Wordpress on Amazon Linux is stable and improved, and I think no changes are necessary. If any possibility for prompt engineering arises, where I can give a prompt and it will create a website, then it will be very useful in the current marketing trend.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working in my current field for the last five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Wordpress on Amazon Linux is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    Its scalability is good.

Wordpress on Amazon Linux is scalable for my needs because it adds more pages smoothly.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not previously use any solution. Once a digital marketing person came into our company, they requested Wordpress, and I explored and found Amazon Linux is the best option based on review and research, so I purchased it.

    What was our ROI?

I have seen a return on investment because I can create many HTML pages for digital marketing, and for digital marketing, it is very helpful for non-coding individuals to create a website and conduct digital marketing.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing Wordpress on Amazon Linux, I evaluated some cPanel options. They offer Wordpress for websites too, but I found it is not relevant for long pages as it tends to hang, presenting some issues; therefore, I opted for Amazon Linux.

What other advice do I have?

I advise that if they want a good performance website for digital marketing, they can use Wordpress on Amazon Linux. It will be very beneficial for them. I have given this review a rating of 8.

Hosting multiple client sites has improved deployment speed but still needs better user access control
    Pros and Cons
    • "Wordpress on Amazon Linux positively impacts my organization by making the management of deployments easier from a developer's perspective, providing full access for me to manage according to my ease."
    • "I don't think much improvement is required for Wordpress on Amazon Linux, but from my experience, there might be aspects related to user access that could be better."

What is our primary use case?

As a DevOps engineer, I have worked multiple times with Wordpress on Amazon Linux, having deployed multiple Wordpress websites on Amazon Linux over almost two years, which works great despite not being every day.

My main use case for Wordpress on Amazon Linux involves setting up the domain on the server using NGINX or sometimes Apache web server, then simply deploying, installing, and setting up Wordpress on Amazon Linux to use it via the given URL.

Mostly, my deployments of Wordpress on Amazon Linux are for clients because I'm working as a DevOps engineer with multiple clients who require Wordpress for their businesses, although I sometimes deploy it for the company developers and occasionally for my personal clients.

Regarding my main use case or how I deploy Wordpress on Amazon Linux, I download the whole Wordpress directory on the server, set up my directory, and most times it depends on the client's use case, whether they have a database such as RDS for Amazon, or if they require the same database on the same server, which I also set up accordingly.

    What is most valuable?

With the deployment perspective, Wordpress on Amazon Linux offers an easy setup which makes it easy for me to manage my development, whether that be for myself, clients, or any product.

When I say easy setup, the compatibility stands out as one of the main factors required for any deployment, along with performance being the second most important feature, both of which are good in Amazon Linux making Wordpress run smoothly on the server for high website availability.

With full access to the server, I can manage the deployment and use case of Wordpress on Amazon Linux with security restrictions, so these aspects are what Amazon Linux provides that are beneficial for me.

Wordpress on Amazon Linux positively impacts my organization by making the management of deployments easier from a developer's perspective, providing full access for me to manage according to my ease.

Troubleshooting is very easy, and being able to make my site highly available and scalable is a significant advantage I have due to the server's compatibility.

    What needs improvement?

I don't think much improvement is required for Wordpress on Amazon Linux, but from my experience, there might be aspects related to user access that could be better.

For how long have I used the solution?

I'm Mohammed Muzammil and I'm working as a DevOps engineer at Jarex, with up to two years of experience as a DevOps engineer working mostly on the cloud platforms with AWS, alongside tools such as Linux, Docker, and Terraform.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There are no reliability issues with Wordpress on Amazon Linux, but as with any technology, I can expect some downtime, although it is overall quite stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Wordpress on Amazon Linux is scalable and can handle growth easily, allowing me to utilize additional services for any required scalability.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before choosing Wordpress on Amazon Linux, I evaluated options such as Hostinger because it is cheaper than AWS, but AWS offers better professionalism and availability.

    What was our ROI?

I have seen a return on investment by deploying multiple Wordpress sites on the same server, reducing costs by utilizing a lightweight solution, and by adding CI/CD, I have also reduced the time for applying new changes.

What other advice do I have?

My advice for others looking into using Wordpress on Amazon Linux is to consider the server's compatibility and excellent performance for running Wordpress effectively.

I have no additional thoughts other than if you are considering compatibility and performance, Amazon Linux is always a good choice for hosting Wordpress. I would rate this solution at three out of ten for customer service.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

    Amazon Web Services (AWS)
