Proactively monitors and helps in resolving issues efficiently but needs more customization features for dashboard
Pros and Cons
  • "The installation is pretty straightforward."
  • "In future releases, I would like to see more automation capabilities. It could integrate with automation services to automatically resolve identified issues rather than simply providing instructions to the user."

What is our primary use case?

Our customers use it to monitor their backup infrastructure as well as the hypervisor.

What is most valuable?

Most of the customers like the features that monitor the VMware infrastructure.

Moreover, the product proactively identifies potential issues and provides suggestions on how to address them.

What needs improvement?

In future releases, I would like to see more automation capabilities. It could integrate with automation services to automatically resolve identified issues rather than simply providing instructions to the user.

Moreover, I would like to see customization on the dashboard and the reporting level.

Another area of improvement is the support.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for around eight years. I'm working with Veeam ONE and Veeam Data Platform.

We work with the latest version, v12.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability an eight out of ten. It needs some improvement, especially on database connectivity, when the database grows. So, these issues are there for some of our customers.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability an eight out of ten. It needs some improvements.

We have around 15 customers using this solution. Some are enterprises, some are government entities, and some are SMBs.

How are customer service and support?

Generally, what we have noticed with Veeam support is that it's getting worse. We have to resolve this by ourselves, and it happened recently also with two to three cases. Our engineering team was able to resolve this instead of waiting from their side.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

I would rate my experience with the initial setup a nine out of ten, where one is difficult, and ten is easy.

It was straightforward. No complexity here.

What about the implementation team?

The installation is pretty straightforward, and some configurations need to be done. The entire process can be done within a day; we can complete it.

For the deployment process, we need to identify where to place the solution and the required ports for Veeam ONE. We identify the network requirements, all the ports, and firewall ports needed to connect to the VMware and backup infrastructures.

It's placed on a dedicated machine, and we configure a skilled server instead of SQL Xpress due to limitations. Then, we deploy it, add the backup and VMware infrastructures, set up the license, and configure rules and alerts.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is reasonably very cheap. I would rate the licensing model a one out of ten, where one is very affordable and ten is extremely expensive.

There are no additional costs. Most of our customers take it as a bundle with Data Cloud. From advanced, they take the bundle. So it comes with Veeam ONE. So, it's very affordable.

What other advice do I have?

If it's purely a VMware environment, then I definitely recommend it. If it's a heterogeneous environment, they may not be able to monitor on-premise servers or the cloud. So, if it's purely VMware, then I would recommend it.

Overall, I would rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Offers robust monitoring and reporting features and ensures businesses maintain high levels of data availability
Pros and Cons
  • "One valuable feature of Veeam ONE for backup management is its dashboard, which offers a comprehensive view of backups and other essential data."
  • "The reports are basic and not customizable, making it challenging to get detailed insights."

What is our primary use case?

We use Veeam ONE mostly for data backup and recovery for virtualized environments.

What is most valuable?

One valuable feature of Veeam ONE for backup management is its dashboard, which offers a comprehensive view of backups and other essential data.

What needs improvement?

In terms of improvement, I have found Veeam ONE to be lacking in some areas. The reports are basic and not customizable, making it challenging to get detailed insights. Additionally, there are limitations with the reports if your backup schedule runs overnight. I hope they release a better version soon.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam ONE for two and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the overall stability of Veeam as a seven. While it is reliable for general backups and snapshots, it faces challenges with scale-out and Oracle backups. The Azure scale-out feature also presents stability issues, with most of our tickets revolving around that area.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability of Veeam ONE as a five out of ten. While it can scale, it is heavily dependent on factors like bandwidth and data volume. Our organization, being data-heavy, faces challenges with scale-outs due to bandwidth limitations. Smaller organizations might find it easier to scale without such constraints.

We have around ten users currently using Veeam ONE in our organization, overseeing the protection of approximately 3,000 workloads.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate Veeam's support as a nine overall. Tier one support can be weak, but tier two is excellent. We often need to escalate to tier two for resolution. Occasionally, issues require R&D involvement, but overall, support is reliable.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We chose Veeam over Commvault because it is simpler to use and more cost-effective. Commvault's complexity and lack of readiness for cloud backups made it less appealing. Veeam offered comprehensive backup solutions for on-premises, Azure, and Office 365, with fewer hardware requirements compared to Commvault.

How was the initial setup?

Deploying Veeam ONE in our organization took around one to one and a half hours. It was straightforward, it was just a matter of connecting to the server and following a few steps.

We handle maintenance and troubleshooting for Veeam ONE in-house with a team of two to three people. If we can't resolve issues internally, we escalate to Veeam support. We used to have weekly catch-ups during critical issues but now have shifted to monthly since there are no critical issues currently. Overall, it is a straightforward product that doesn't require frequent maintenance once set up.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Overall, we find Veeam ONE to be reasonably priced, especially with our long-term deals. Its capability to manage various aspects of our infrastructure, including on-premises and Azure, adds significant value. While we initially tried Azure native backup, we found Veeam to be more comprehensive and user-friendly. Although we currently use two backup solutions, we are considering consolidating everything under Veeam in the future.

What other advice do I have?

We don't use Veeam ONE for monitoring our virtual environment due to compatibility issues with other software like Pulse SolarWinds. We primarily use it for backup activities. I have tested it and found it promising, but haven't run it extensively due to operational concerns.

I use Veeam ONE for proactive issue resolution by relying on its reports. If something isn't healthy, the report alerts me. Then I investigated further, like when it flagged issues with our proxy server's pricing. I don't check it daily; I schedule reports and review them, giving me a basic idea of what is happening. If I see unexpected issues in the report, I know where to focus my attention. While I don't use it for daily monitoring, it is handy for reporting.

Veeam ONE's reporting capabilities provide a decent overview, but I need more granularity for our data protection strategies. While the reports are okay, they sometimes lack the detail my team and boss require. I'm currently exploring ways to meet our need for more detailed reporting, such as tracking data scaled out to Azure.

Veeam ONE's analytics have helped us with IT decision-making by identifying issues like poor storage and repository node problems. Its focused view on backup infrastructure narrowed our troubleshooting scope. For instance, it highlighted discrepancies in backup deletion, leading us to uncover a bug in our current version.

I would recommend Veeam ONE for small organizations, but for larger ones needing granular reporting, it might fall short. Veeam is continually improving its features and aiming to compete at an enterprise level, but it is still evolving. Overall, I would rate Veeam ONE as an eight out of ten.

An easy-to-implement solution that is fast, stable, and flexible
Pros and Cons
  • "First, I like that this solution is fast. Second, I like the stability and flexibility."
  • "If you don't have technical knowledge about these services, monitoring the virtual machines is hard."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution to backup documents, photographs, video tapes, and data in the cloud. It is a public cloud and implementation is easy because all you need to do is create a new user, and then you can easily load the data.

What is most valuable?

First, I like that this solution is fast. Second, I like the stability and flexibility.

What needs improvement?

If you don't have technical knowledge about these services, monitoring the virtual machines is hard. The solution is flexible if you have the correct knowledge though, so if you have knowledge about newer technical services, it's easy.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for about six years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a pay-as-you-go solution. There are four people using it in my company.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is so helpful because the team is in the USA and the people are fast. We get answers fast and the connectivity is fast. It's so good. I would rate the technical support as a ten out of ten.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Our licensing cost is $200 a year.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution to others.

I would rate this solution as a nine out of ten.

Affordable and reliable general hypervisor management with significant lack of customer support
Pros and Cons
  • "Veeam ONE has proven to be a reliable tool not just for backups but also for general hypervisor management."
  • "I am highly dissatisfied with their customer support approach."

What is our primary use case?

Our customers were seeking an affordable monitoring solution. We noticed that traditional options like VMware's Operations Manager are quite expensive, so we found a more budget-friendly alternative. Veeam ONE has proven to be a reliable tool not just for backups but also for general hypervisor management.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the capacity planning aspect of the solution.

What needs improvement?

There are not enough charts and diagrams available. Other solutions, such as VMware's vRealize, offer a more extensive range of charts and diagrams for monitoring the environment. Enhancing the user experience, particularly in terms of providing more comprehensive chart and diagram options, would be beneficial.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with it for more than ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It offers good stability capabilities. I would rate it eight out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

I am highly dissatisfied with their customer support approach.  When we face a certain issue, they simply provide a website link and expect us to resolve the problem on our own. If the issue persists, we need to revert to them for further assistance. This process can be time-consuming when dealing with problems. This differs significantly from our experiences with other vendors, like Nutanix. For instance, when we open a support case with Nutanix, they not only provide a dedicated web portal but also offer direct assistance tailored to our company's specific situation. This approach is notably more effective. I would rate it five out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I learned about Veeam ONE before exploring other solutions, and I have found it to be a highly cost-effective option when compared to alternative solutions.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. I would rate it nine out of ten.

What about the implementation team?

The deployment process took approximately one week because, following the initial setup, we held several technical meetings to fine-tune the configuration to align with the specific requirements of the customer's use case.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's an extremely cost-effective solution. I would rate it three out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

It is an excellent solution, incredibly user-friendly and manageable. I would highly recommend it based on its robust features and ease of use. The main issue lies in the quality of customer support. I would rate it seven out of ten.

A Stable Reporting Tool for easily Managing and Monitoring Infrastructure
Pros and Cons
  • "Veeam One is a centralized management and centralized reporting tool. The tool has supportive infrastructure to create specialised applications and some server application. You can add all the resources and infrastructure. You will get the reports, can easily manage and monitor any feature."
  • "Sometimes the solution give reports that are confusing and has errors. So the integration of the full solution with the resolution of resolving the error should be added in the next release. The solution should also provide more customization, automation, better documentation."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is being used for licensing, for making reports and get graphs from there we can take the alerts of the process in Veeam One. The solution is used for any kind of utilization like if some machines are powered off, or some need any CPU alerts or memory alerts. So all these alerts for the issues can be received through Veeam One.

What is most valuable?

Veeam One is a centralized management and centralized reporting tool. The tool has supportive infrastructure to create specialised applications and some server application. You can add all the resources and infrastructure. You will get the reports, can easily manage and monitor any feature.

What needs improvement?

Sometimes the solution give reports that are confusing and has errors. So the integration of the full solution with the resolution of resolving the error should be added in the next release. The solution should also provide more customization, automation, better documentation.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Veeam One for three and half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. Around sixty to hundred users are using the solution at the moment.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support team is fast, knowledgeable and customer -friendly.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy. Since Veeam One is a Software Application based solution so for the deployment one just needs to install the software in any server class. You can access it through those web browsers. There are a lot of cases where you can access the remote and also through the browser, so you can access it. No technical support is required for deployment.

What other advice do I have?

Veeam One is very famous in the market. There is no backup solution or backup for Veeam one, as the installation is easy. Almost ninety percent of the enterprises are on the installations and enrollment.

I rate the overall solution an eight out of ten.

Good support, easy to deploy, and stable
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features are the notifications, which give us failure alerts for some infrastructure within the backup, and the reporting is excellent."
  • "I would like the solution to have better integration with other hypervisors and cloud features that are not exclusive to VMware."

What is our primary use case?

I use the solution to monitor the services within the backend servers and to check the inventory of our infrastructure. I also use the solution to generate advanced reports.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are the notifications, which give us failure alerts for some infrastructure within the backup, and the reporting is excellent.

What needs improvement?

I would like the solution to have better integration with other hypervisors and cloud features that are not exclusive to VMware. Additionally, I would like the ability to integrate with Nutanix. There is room for improvement in this area.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for almost one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable but we are not planning on scaling up at this time.

We have three people using the solution within our organization.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support for Veeam, as a whole, is good for ticketing, and also for support.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. The deployment without any customization takes only two minutes.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation is completed in-house.

What other advice do I have?

I give the solution an eight out of ten.

I recommend that potential new users familiarize themselves with what they want to monitor and the information they need about their infrastructure. Veeam ONE is highly compatible with VMware, but not with other solutions such as Nutanix or other hypervisors, so it may be more challenging to integrate the solution with hypervisors other than VMware. Nevertheless, Veeam ONE can still provide the necessary information and benefits for organizations.

Easy implementation with good pricing and nice stability
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is quite stable."
  • "The appliance doesn't have a domain. If there was a competitor with a domain, I'd likely use them."

What is our primary use case?

We're resellers. We offer this solution to our clients, that are companies of various sizes.

What is most valuable?

The solution offers very good administrative capabilities.

The product is very simple in terms of how it is used and designed.

The implementation is pretty simple and straightforward. It's not hard to set up.

The pricing is pretty good. We find it to be pretty fair.

The solution is quite stable.

The product offers good scalability.

What needs improvement?

I haven't used the solution for long enough to really be able to consider features that may be lacking. I haven't had enough time to work with it.

The appliance doesn't have a domain. If there was a competitor with a domain, I'd likely use them.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for less than a year. It's been about six months since I started using the solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable. It doesn't have bugs or glitches, at least, none that I've experienced. It hasn't crashed on us or frozen. I find the solution to be reliable so far.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. If we need to expand the solution in the future, I have no doubt that we could.

We deal with companies of different sizes, and this solution can work for organizations that are both small or large.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In previous work, I've used EMC Networker. I found the solution to be too complex and I wouldn't say that the solution worked well for me. Veeam is much more straightforward and I find its usability to be better.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup isn't complex. It's pretty straightforward.

I don't recall how long the actual deployment took. I don't think that it took very long.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is pretty fair. It's quite competitive. It's certainly not the most expensive option.

What other advice do I have?

We're resellers. We offer this solution to our clients.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. So far, it's worked quite well for our clients and I can't think of any places where the solution is lacking feature-wise. It's quite good and would be suitable for different-sized companies, from small to large or enterprise level.
