A solution with a straightforward setup that's great for designing workflows but has limited scalability
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup is straightforward."
  • "The web services aspect of the solution is very weak."

What is most valuable?

The solution's best feature is designing workflow processing. It's easy to change and collate workflows.

What needs improvement?

The solution has limitations when it comes to exploration.

The web services aspect of the solution is very weak.

If the requirements are moderate, the solution is okay, but for more complex requirements, I need to use the solution in combination with other solutions. It doesn't offer everything I need.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution since 2012.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is okay but limited.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is okay but limited.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

We're using the SharePoint 2000 version.

The solution makes the work of estimating the requirements pretty difficult. Mainly, it is a very useful tool I can use for small to medium requirements.

If you're new to the solution, be aware that Sharepoint can be challenging, so you need to be ready to learn the solution in order to fully use it. Sharepoint involves coding; it's not like other solutions that offer zero coding. Organizations considering implementing it should be made aware of this.

If you are considering implementing it, I'd take the time to compare it to what you already have and any other options you are considering so that you are able to choose the solution that will work best for you. There are a lot of features now that are actually offered by competitors.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten. If you were talking about the 2016 version, I'd give it a seven out of ten, but the 2013 version I would rate a six.

An excellent document filing solution offering creative solutions to document management
Pros and Cons
  • "The document filing system is the solution's most valuable feature. We have used SharePoint as an option for a document managed system, like Documentum and IBM Filenet."
  • "I believe Microsoft does not support Sharepoint on-premises. They only support Sharepoint on the Cloud. They should provide for both options and let the client choose their preference."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the it as a creative solution for document management.

What is most valuable?

The document filing system is the solution's most valuable feature. We have used SharePoint as an option for a document managed system, like Documentum and IBM Filenet.

What needs improvement?

I believe Microsoft does not support Sharepoint on-premises. They only support Sharepoint on the Cloud. They should provide for both options and let the client choose their preference.

The solution should have a better workflow with the craft, and also offer some configurations to help drive workflow.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for five years.

What other advice do I have?

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

There are other solutions on the market. Some are more usable than Sharepoint.

Useful collaboration, customizable, and informative update roadmap
Pros and Cons
  • "I am a developer, and whatever is not possible with the SharePoint default feature, we make custom features available for our clients. Anything which is not possible using all the methods within the solution we can customize."
  • "SharePoint Online should continue to integrate with other solutions."

What is our primary use case?

SharePoint Online is a collaborative tool. For example, if you need your coworkers to collaborate on a particular task or project SharePoint Online can be used to store your information in terms of the SharePoint list. Additionally, you can add your document or physical files there. If you need to build any kind of custom workflows or custom requirements for your business, you have the ability to do it in this solution.

What is most valuable?

I am a developer, and whatever is not possible with the SharePoint default feature, we make custom features available for our clients. Anything which is not possible using all the methods within the solution we can customize.

SharePoint Online is not only a SharePoint standalone, but they have integrated it with other Microsoft services, such as Microsoft BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate. We can deliver any business solution using other Microsoft service, which is collaborative with SharePoint.

SharePoint have their own roadmaps, with the new features that they're coming out which is informative.

Microsoft has invested in SharePoint heavily in terms of UI, stability, performance. It is a very good solution.

What needs improvement?

SharePoint Online should continue to integrate with other solutions.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using SharePoint Online for approximately 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of SharePoint Online is good.

How are customer service and support?

The support we have from Microsoft has been good.

I would rate the support from Microsoft a ten out of ten.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

SharePoint Online has a subscription-based model for payments and the price is based on user usage.

I would rate the price of SharePoint an eight out of ten.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I didn't get a chance to explore other solutions because when I started my career, it was always SharePoint. If we were not using SharePoint, all the other options seemed to be more costly. For example, integration.

When I compare SharePoint with open source solutions, we don't have difficulties managing the operation because it's subscription-based and everything Microsoft takes care of, such as security.

What other advice do I have?

SharePoint Online has been retired and we now use SharePoint Online.

I strongly recommend this solution. If you have a Microsoft account or Office 365 account, many of the customers don't know that it has a SharePoint within. If they know it, they can manage most of their internal work through it. Having the portal allows the user to manage everything. If they have Office 365 subscription, they should invest in SharePoint because it is available for them free of cost if they have their own subscription to Office 365. However, it is now hidden in the application.

Sharepoint is a good solution and they are working towards more integration with other solutions and tools that can enable developers.

I rate SharePoint Online an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Simple deployment, reliable, and priced well
Pros and Cons
  • "SharePoint Designer is easy to deploy and it is one of the most valuable features. The whole process took a couple of days and it is easy to work on."
  • "The interface of SharePoint Designer could be improved, such as in SAP."

What needs improvement?

The interface of SharePoint Designer could be improved, such as in SAP.

For how long have I used the solution?

I am using SharePoint Designer now and have only used it for a short time.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

SharePoint Designer is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have only recently deployed the solution, I am not able to give much information on the scalability.

We have approximately 200 users using this solution in my organization and we plan to increase usage.

How are customer service and support?

I have not needed to use technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have used another solution previously and we switched because SharePoint Designer requires less maintenance.

How was the initial setup?

SharePoint Designer is easy to deploy and it is one of the most valuable features. The whole process took a couple of days and it is easy to work on.

What about the implementation team?

We used our own team for the implementation of the solution.

We have one person that handles the maintenance of the solution.

What was our ROI?

We have received a return on investment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

SharePoint Designer is less expensive than other solutions we have used. We purchased Office 365 which SharePoint comes with the package.

What other advice do I have?

I rate SharePoint Designer an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

A solution with poor UX/UI, lots of bugs and difficult management functionality
Pros and Cons
  • "The basic functionality the solution makes it easy to share documents or information with the team."
  • "It has a lot of bugs. It's also not very convenient. The UX/UI is not very user-friendly and not designed to be similar to other applications from Microsoft."

What is most valuable?

The basic functionality the solution makes it easy to share documents or information with the team.

What needs improvement?

SharePoint is not a great product. It can be much better in many ways.

The collaboration tools for editing do not work right and malfunction often.

It has a lot of bugs. It's also not very convenient. The UX/UI is not very user-friendly and not designed to be similar to other applications from Microsoft.

The management functionality should be much easier.

The dialogue with end users needs improvement. If you are a manager of SharePoint, sometimes it's hard to know what exactly the user would like to have. There should be more intelligent services or features available, which would make it easier for end users.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There are many bugs in the solution, so I don't think it's extremely stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Although I'm not in charge of scaling the solution, I've heard it's not very easy to expand the capacity.

How are customer service and technical support?

I've never contacted Microsoft directly, as our enterprise has its own internal support.

How was the initial setup?

I didn't do the initial implementation, but I set up the team functionality, and that part of the setup was not easy.

What other advice do I have?

We use the on-premises deployment model.

I'd rate the solution three out of ten.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support for this solution is fair. It's ok.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of this solution is straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

This solution is free of charge.

What other advice do I have?

The solution needs a modern deployment and should offer a development environment instead of a customization tool
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable part of the solution is its ability to allow for a high degree of customization."
  • "The solution is not scalable at all."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for modifying SharePoint.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable part of the solution is its ability to allow for a high degree of customization.

What needs improvement?

Many aspects of the solution need improvement. It does not make use of modern deployment. You should also be able to separate your concerns between the code and the environment. It should become a development environment rather than a customization tool.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Recently, the stability of the solution has been okay. The later versions have been better.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is not scalable at all.

What other advice do I have?

In terms of advice I would give to others considering implementing the solution, I would say they should adopt the SharePoint Framework and do it with Visual Studio.

I'd rate the solution three out of ten.

Top 20
Good management and monitoring capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "The management and monitoring features are good."
  • "The pricing is a little bit high and can be reduced."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use is for file sharing on our intranet, as well as on the internet. We also develop internet applications.

What is most valuable?

The management and monitoring features are good.

What needs improvement?

The pricing is a little bit high and can be reduced. If we could pay for a single license that covers the whole organization then it would be better than paying fees based on the size of our user base.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using SharePoint Designer for more than five years.

How are customer service and technical support?

We haven't had any issues with technical support.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The cost of the license is based on the size of the user base.

What other advice do I have?

In summary, this product allows our developers to do what they want to do.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
